Very slow service - which would have been fine if the food was good but it was not. The staff was very friendly and apologized for the slow service so I'm not knocking them. I'm fairly certain everything is from frozen. There was a weird herb taste to everything...maybe rosemary? The steaks looked like they had fake grill marks on them and mine was a little tough. No "flame kissed" taste. Actually very little beef taste. I literally ate 3 bites but that weird herb taste was so off-putting that I took it home to "fix" it because at nearly $40 I wanted to try to salvage it. Same odd taste in the macaroni and cheese. It's a taste like you find in frozen diet dinners. I didn't even bother taking the Mac/cheese home. My husband had the chicken fried steak and it was okay. He finished it. I tried a piece and it had a hint of that same weird taste to me. No bread or rolls were served with the food. The iced tea was good. The back quiet room was nice. We won't go back and we're glad we didn't take guests for our first visit. read more

I have been to the Red Rock Steakhouse before but I came for dinner and at the time I was still eating meat at the time and I recall their steak being pretty good. This time we went for breakfast. Since I don't eat meat anymore I was pretty excited that they had a few options for me. They have pancakes, French toast, Migas, eggs, and potatoes. I chose 2 fried eggs and a pancake which are huge by the way. I also got hot tea but I was a little disappointed they only had herbal tea but I did appreciate they had a decent amount of options. My husband got their breakfast sandwich he really enjoyed it. It was a croissant, with egg, cheese, bacon and he got sausage added. They have a small but mighty staff and make everything to order so it may take a few minutes to get the food out but it is worth it because it is fresh and hot. We will definitely visit again when we are in town. read more

Wow! In the dead smack in little ol Red Rock, this place you have to try. This is NO chain. This is the real deal. Their beef nachos are ... amazing! The ground beef is seasoned, the beans are well seasoned and the queso is so good and its huge. The steak is perfection. (See pic) The wings are sumptuous. (See pic) and....wait for it.....the homemade peach cobbler with a crumble oatmeal top served warm and topped with vanilla ice cream ... Lordy Lordy that's just the best. Now they also have breakfast and they got hamburgers and fish and yes they have amazing salads. They have it all. And if that weren't enough they have an outside and bar for outside events ... WOW! Young but attentive, friendly, helpful and enthusiastic about the food, she was a great ambassador for the kitchen. And we enjoyed her recommendations. We tried the shrimp wrapped in bacon and jalapeño, followed by fried mushrooms for appetizers. For drinks, we had top shelf Mexican martini (highly recommended) and a mojito. Waited 2 hours to get served and let me tell you, the food was not worth the wait. The service wasn't worth the wait. I know what you're thinking, 2 hours really? Literally it was 2 hours. At a little after 1 hour, the waitress said that they were out of chicken fried steaks so 2 people would have to change their orders. This place would be better calling itself a Bar than a steakhouse. For all the time it took to make the food on the menu, it just didn't function as a restaurant. If this food would have been even somewhat good, it would have been a Saving Grace but everything that was served was just BLAND. Very little seasoning whatsoever if any. The gravy was like water and the green beans came straight out of the can. Steaks for overcooked and dry. The one chicken fried steak that did come out was almost 70% breading. No gravy on the mashed potatoes. Fried pickles were under fried so they came out mushy again with heavy breading. The onion rings looked really good, but they left the onion skins on them so every bite you took, you'd pull out the onion skin before you able to chew the onion ring. NOT GOOD FOR GROUPS LARGER THAN 7 or 8. But even then, the food was just Plain Jane. There's not much out in Red Rock so I don't know. If it were strictly a bar that served food, I think that would work better. Apparently they're also Under New Management, not sure what that means but as far as I could tell from my visit, it was totally NOT Worth Going!! read more

We love having this place right down the road from our home. It's a real gem that more people should check out! We have had some hit & miss with some of the Mexican food on the menu being so-so, but the steak is amazing! It's incredibly good quality and so far, has always been cooked to perfection. (Honestly the only better steak we have had in Bastrop is at Piney Creek, and it's a pretty close 2nd! So very good!) All the mixed drinks we have had have been really good too. The service has also been very good and has gotten even better over the last 6 months. I believe they had new owners take over and they have really stepped it up. I would love if they would begin to offer a bit more wine options on their menu. That's probably my only real complaint as I enjoy a nice glass of red wine with my steak. They should look into a deal with Red Rock Vinyards down the road and really make it a local place! read more

Went to breakfast today and it was terrible as well as the service. The young lady who waited on us had a poor attitude. With breakfast the potatoes were not cooked nor were the hash browns. The new Abi's rancheros was supposed to have refried beans. There were no beans and she got upset that she had to go get me some. My husband's breakfast was supposed to have pancakes that didn't come out. We had to ask her for the pancakes, she got upset that we had to ask for pancakes that she had to go get them. It was overall a terrible experience for breakfast now dinner is another story. Didn't get our drinks for at least 30 mins after sitting down. Took every bit of 3 hours from when we sat down until we received our food. Ordered a ribeye and it was 1/8 in thick and cooked well done (asked for med rare). Sides were cold not only on my plate but everyone else's as well. Took a drive after reading some reviews about this place and it was definitely worth it Not sure but this may have been a general store at one time. Our waitress, Deborah was super friendly and the beer was ice cold! They offer you a cold mug but the bottle is super cold. The food is sooo good. We got Ribeye steaks and they were cooked exactly to our order with a little charring on the top but juicy and well seasoned. The fried squash was out of this world, the fried okra was super fresh and the loaded mashed potatoes had large pieces of bacon. The Mac n cheese was okay but not my favorite. The iced tea was just like I make at home! Lastly, we got Key lime pie and that in itself is worth another trip They have a Saloon next to the restaurant with a nice outdoor yard with a stage and live music every Friday and Saturday. Plenty of parking too! This is a farm to table type restaurant and the food is definitely fresh tasting. You wait a little for the food but it comes out hot and fresh. We had high hopes, but alas, 15.00 burgers (not great), chicken fried chicken was good and ribeye was cooked perfectly however no seasoning and we ordered a side of mushrooms and just got a few sprinkled on top of the steak. We were initially thinking of going into Austin but I thought, let me see if there are any steakhouses that are closer. I came across RR steakhouse and saloon. We visited this place again...and I stand behind my original review. We went for lunch this time. My husband had the Friday lunch special. ..Fish and chips and I ordered the grilled salmon. Both very good. My husband's fish looked like it would be heavy but the batter was actually very light...not greasy at all. The fish was cooked perfectly, if anything it could use a little more seasoning (but that's a personal preference). My husband mentioned that the fries would be great with a burger. The decor and ambiance is really fun (antiques everywhere) even the bathrooms are adorable (and really clean). We went on a Friday evening. The service was impeccable. The women ordered steaks (the filet) and men ordered the ribs. The steaks were cooked to perfection (loved the added garlic butter on mine). This was the first time in I don't know how long where I actually tried to wait it out to see how long it would really take. I gave up at the almost 2 hour mark, dropped $20 on the table and left. 1st, couldn't check in here because cell signal is obsolete and their wifi wasn't working. Our not so exciting adventure. A friend that lives in Cedar Creek recommended this place. We (my son and a couple of friends) were going to be staying at Lost Pines Resort. We decided to come here for lunch before checking into the resort. We drove in from Cedar Park and arrived at 12:50 pm. We were waiting for someone else driving in and didn't order our food until 1:20. This is where things went downhill. First, expect to drop cash here. A small ramekin of Queso with about 25 chips is $8.95, it wasn't bad but a teenage boy could literally eat it all on 2 chips. My son tried to pace himself and ate it all with 5 chips. We had a 50% off appetizer. That isn't the reason for 1 star. It all started when I ordered my food. I asked for the catfish plate. I originally thought it came with 2 sides along with battered fries because that is how it reads on the menu (the header about the plates says they come with two sides). I was quickly notified that the catfish plate only comes with battered fries. I respect the owner's hard rule of no substitutions, but how un"Texas" to have a catfish plate and not even have slaw or something else with it. And, battered fries? Not everyone like them. I think they are disgusting. I asked about swapping them out thinking like most other places there may be a small charge to "upgrade" or even just an even swap, Nope, I can pay for a whole new side because and I quote, "The owners are adamant that this one meal where no changes/substitutions can be made." I was told I could order a separate side for full price and they would just keep the fries off my plate. Slaw is just as cheap if not cheaper than fries, unless they are putting gold shavings in the slaw. Ok, no thanks. Again, the owner has the right to their very weird restrictive rules and I have the right to never return or recommend this place to anyone. So in protest I decided not to order. I can find a snack at the resort. My son and his friends did. They ordered burgers. This was 1:20 PM. The place was dead. There was a family that arrived after we ordered that were sitting on the patio. However, the Salon had a reunion going on. Around 1:50 our waitress stopped by to let us know our food would be ready in about 10-15 minutes. Weird, but ok. I didn't say a word. I knew the boys were hungry, I mean they did have a $8.95, 5 tablespoons of queso at 12:55. We've been here an hour so far... The waitress disappears for a while and I don't blame her. She knows I wasn't happy with the news on the catfish plate (I made sure she knew I didn't blame her, she isn't the owner), she knows we have been waiting for 30 minutes for the lunches and knows we have to wait 10-15 minutes longer). At 2:20 (30 minutes later) the waitress comes out and apologizes again for the wait. She said it would be another 10-15 minutes. She said because of the reunion our food is being really delayed. I found that weird, because a table out on the patio that showed up after we ordered was being served their food. So now we are approaching the 2 hour mark. I could be wrong, but I feel whoever was running the show was punishing me and our table. How could a table that ordered well after we did be getting food, but the boys that just ordered burgers were waiting an hour and a half??? I started to wonder if they were going to spit in the food, drop it on the floor or something else. Who knows, but it was obvious I was being taught a lesson, but I waited another 15 minutes, still no food. At 2:40 I dropped $20 on the table and left. We then drove into Bastrop. I found Paw Paw's on Yelp with decent reviews. Look at that... a catfish & shrimp plate for $12.99 with pinto beans, coated/battered fries, slaw and hush puppies. An almost traditional catfish plate. And, they let me switch out the battered /coated fries at no charge. I was willing to pay an up-charge though. Our lunch ended up costing me $65 - $20 for nothing at RRSH and $40 + tip to feed everyone at Paw Paw's. So no, I won't ever return to RRSH. I am sure others who want to throw money away will, but if I am asked for recommendations in this area, it won't be RRSH. read more

We discovered this place one day while cruising through the Yelp app. Through the years, we look on Yelp and find something new anywhere within a 200-mile radius of Austin, Texas. This steakhouse and saloon was an amazing find. The main restaurant was a very old general store from Elroy, Texas moved to its present location in Red Rock. The restaurant still has all of the old bins for flour, sugar, etc. on the side walls and decorated with vintage country items throughout. The food was scrumptious. My husband had a hamburger that was pretty darn incredible. I ordered the ribeye steak and ribs. Yummy. One highlight was the freshly baked loaves of bread served with cinnamon butter. Service was good, it was pretty quiet for a mid-afternoon Sunday. After we stuffed ourselves completely, we walked to the other side and ordered a drink in the saloon. There was a couple playing Country music in the bar which was a nice touch. The bar has garage doors that are open in decent weather and were open that day. You can dine or drink on the porch and it is dog friendly. We went back on New Year's Day with a friend. The main restaurant was closed, but the full menu was available in the bar. My friend had the chicken fried steak, I had the pork chops and my husband had the Steak, onions and peppers sandwich. All were delicious. There were no complaints and our plates were clean when we left. Food is outstanding, ambience is soothing and just down home country and the staff were very friendly and handled their jobs with ease.
