Our waitress Maria arrived shortly after being seated. Another smiling, happy face. Very friendly throughout our visit. We ordered a chardonnay and a biscayne bay IPA. We ordered the Florida City crabcake. This was not very heavy, a mango jam, Corn Chow Chow, Plantain Chips. Oh my, this was great flavor and textures with the crunchy chips and the soft crab, just wow. For our entree, she had the Roasted Boneless Branzino Collard Green Chimmichuri, Roasted HeirloomTomatoes, Grilled Lemon. She absolutely loved this delicious entree. It was cooked and prepared perfectly. I had the Red Shrimp & Grits Azar Andouille Sausage, Garlic Confit, Sun Dried Tomatoes, Tomato Shrimp Broth, and Creamy Grits. The spice throughout was a very pleasant tasting spicy heat. The grits, perfect and the flavors, came together very nicely. I could not finish my grits as it was a bit much in quantity. I had to leave room for dessert, the blackberry cobbler, and yes, it was just as amazing as the rest of our meal. If we lived here, we would be coming here regularly. Parking, you have to pay $15 for parking, but there is plenty of parking. The place has a great vibe, and the people are all happy and pleasant. The expeditors were interacting with us throughout and very friendly. There is also a bar in the front room that looked like a fun place to hang out. There appears to be a music venue of sorts next door and you could hear the music while we were at our table. This was a great first night in Miami. Loved this place! Very impressed with the food. Everything was delicious. The decorations are very nice and picture perfect. We dined inside which had low lighting and a nice ambience. The deviled eggs were delicious and topped with a fried pork rinds. My friends had the fried chicken in which they said was to die for. The bread pudding is a 10/10 seriously, I'd come back just for this dessert alone. I made sure to stop by Red Rooster during Miami Spice! I went for a dinner for two during a weeknight, and the restaurant was surprisingly empty. Towards the end of the night, more and more tables started arriving, but service was consistent throughout. Since we had their Miami Spice menu, I can't really speak to many of their dishes. I had the deviled eggs, fried chicken, and key lime dessert. The food was good and definitely unique. My only complaint is the long time between serving dishes; we were waiting on a salad that didn't come out until right before our entrees. Well, let's start with a place that has affectionately called itself the Harlem of the south. We had a 9:30 reservation they called to set us about 10:40 but we had already made our way to the bar where we decided to have our dinner. My fried chicken dinner was amazing. However, my friend's jerk chicken wasn't so jerked, so she wasn't too excited and didn't finish it. I don't know if it was just the night, but there was a weird energy with the staff. They kept telling us the kitchen was overwhelmed. Probably because they stacked reservations. There's a lounge upstairs that was quite lively. We enjoyed a drink and listen to the beats for a little while . The bartender did escort us to the Door, I was hoping for a place to sit since we were escorted. However, that didn't happen we had one drink and called it the night. Overall, they deserve three stars but there was a lively atmosphere and my fried chicken was amazing so I'm gonna give them a four there is definitely room for improvement, I would return. We were informed in advance they were operating on a pre fixe only menu, at $75 per person. We excitedly obliged. We arrived on time for our 9:45pm holiday dinner and were promptly seated. It took a while for our server to arrive. He asked for drink orders as well as food allergies. I informed him of my pineapple allergy, to which he replied "There's no pineapple on the dinner menu tonight, so you're good." We ordered the kale salad and cornbread as our starters. The salad was listed with "seasonal fruit". I asked what that was and the server said "mango and peaches". Two bites into the salad and my ears were hot, and my throat was inflamed and itching. I flagged the server, holding my fork I asked AGAIN about the fruit. He said "that's not pineapple, it's mango". I requested that he triple check with the kitchen as my reaction was saying it was DEFINITELY PINEAPPLE. He returned with arms signaling to stop eating. Saying "they must've run out of mango, it's pineapple". I was LIVID!!!! Especially since he completely dismissed my concerns initially. The manager came and offered minimal apology and concern and we were told to let them know if my reaction got worse. They brought out the rest of the food, which was served family style. Already upset and frustrated, the remaining items were BEYOND disappointing. Everything was lukewarm, and appeared to have been sitting for a LONG time. Everything was dry and unappetizing. We picked at it, I was terrified to eat, as I was still having an allergic reaction. At the end of the "meal" our server said the manager was making adjustments to the check. The adjustment was a 25% discount for the "inconvenience" (of almost killing me!!!!). TWENTY FIVE PERCENT off a bill that INCLUDED A 20% GRATUITY!!!! The audacity! I was pissed. I could not believe I was still charged for a full meal that I didn't eat and could've put me in the hospital. I will never return or recommend this establishment. I was so excited to try Marcus Samuelsson's restaurant. Everything was a let down, especially the manner in which my allergy was handled. The pictures speak for themselves. Red Rooster is always an option for some of those Southern comfort food staples as well as Southern food with a modern twist. The Sunday brunch is a great option as they have a gospel singing group. The ambiance and service is always great whether there for brunch, lunch or dinner. There is indoor seating, patio seating and seating at the bar. If you get a chance, you should check out the upstairs where there are photos of some of the most amazing Black artists, athletes and activists along the stairs walls. Upstairs, there is a lounger with a bar and pool table as well as an outdoor balcony for seating. There is also an ice cream bar on the side of the restaurant that has some unique but good flavors worth a try, like the cornbread ice cream. read more

Waitress Spencica had my back immediately upon being seated. Popped in for a late lunch/dinner thing and the staff were busy prepping for the upcoming dinner service. It was such a lovely and lively atmosphere. One of the waitresses was pregnant and she was an absolute doll. Every one of the staff had each other's backs and was checking in and helping out. I even got to see their huddle for the dinner service which was neat. Love the collaboration and love that pours from every inch of this place. Bar and general decor is classy and hip. Love the music I was jamming out while i was getting my grub on too. Every single dish was delightful and I even got a celebratory glass of champagne for getting through chemo! Place is extremely clean and a nice vibe but.. me and wife went for brunch and the food was just okay nothing great to brag about for the price. Our favorite may have been that the bacon. The chicken wings seemed over cooked and the batter was just plain weird for us. We prefer just flower not sure what the mixture of the batter was. Catfish was okay but kind of didn't taste like catfish maybe some other type of fish. Greens were decent, grits okay, creole with shrimp decent. Mac and cheese was probably above average. The vibe at Red Rooster Overtown is it! Very chill spot. I had red the reviews and had pretty high expectations that weren't quite met. I will say there was a large group of us so I know service tends to take a little longer. But it took a really long time for us to get our cocktails and food. Appetizers came out the same time as the food. 2 people in the group had to get their meals comped because their food didn't come until the entire group was almost done eating. Overall, the food is good. The price tag didn't meet the expectation so I think that's where the disappointment came in. DOs - Mac n cheese and wings! So good. My mother and I ordered Margaritas which were DELICIOUS and strong!! (Sugar over salt rim ) We ordered something with fish in it for the appetizer which was a little burnt but was really good. I'm thinking the char was on purpose and added to the flavor. (Picture Attached) My mom is from Georgia and eats fried catfish fish every Friday, she was craving it and got the cat fish Sandwich with no bun or toppings. Plain catfish. It wasn't good at all. It had SO MUCH CRUST!!! (Picture Attached) Like I said, my mother grew up in Georgia. A real country woman. So of course we had to taste the collard greens. Let me just say.......... first of all, they were cut so thick. Second, they were sweet?? Third, the stems were still in them. It's like they just cut the collard greens with no love. My friend Ashley and I were looking somewhere to catch up for brunch a couple of weekends back near the Wynwood area. Having met Chef Marcus during the South Beach Wine and Food Fest earlier this year, I picked Red Rooster when it came up on our search results. Located in a restored Overtown building, they also have patio dining as well as an adjacent farm where they grow some of the produce advertised in their menu. The decor is a mix of exposed concrete for an industrial finish as well as more luxurious decor. They also incorporate more historical looks from the original pool hall. Unlike a lot of other Miami restaurants, they also have their own self-pay parking lot. Both the looks and aroma of the hot chicken coming from the kitchen made our brunch selection easy. Served a waffle with perfect crisp from the pearl sugar, and amped up from the jerk syrup, their hot chicken and waffles entree was delicious and generous. There was even enough to take home. Aaliyah, our pleasant and energetic server and crew mates even packed some of the syrup to go. Dessert was their magic city donuts - a variety fluffy balls filled with guava, powdered sugar, & dulce de leche, and garnished with whipped creme. Part of this also ended in our takeout box. Having gone a little early for day drinking, I just had black coffee and my friend just water. But their cocktail menu looks a must try for dinner. The restaurant and bar are beautiful and definitely hit all the "Old Florida" vibes. We were seated right away...the place was mostly empty. Our server came to the table and explained some of their specialty dishes. We ordered the Marcus Cornbread, fish cakes and pumpkin fritters as well as the yellow tail tiraditos and the garlic crab meat app that was like a stuffing. Everything was good...but the portions are rather small. For entrees we had the fried yardbird, ox tail pepper pot, Bucatini and the shrimp and grits. Everyone liked their dish but the standouts were the fried chicken and ox tail. We really felt the service was lacking for a fine dining establishment.; we waited for water and napkins etc...The restaurant was not busy at all and the manager came to our table a few times but that next level attention to detail just isn't there. The cornbread was very good but it seemed to be missing something. The fried yardbird was some of the best fried chicken I have ever had. It had such amazing flavor. My favorite is dark meat & that's what you get. 2 legs & 2 thighs. The jerk sweet potato was really delicious. The Mac & cheese was totally amazing. I would give it a 3.5. I was a solo diner and I made a reservation in advance . When I arrived, I informed the hostess and I felt heavily pressured to sit at the bar instead.. I don't enjoy sitting at the bar because usually the service isn't good because there is one bartender to 20 people. I went on and sat at the bar. The chairs were uncomfortable. The man next to me, got the bartenders attention for me because I had been sitting there for a while with zero acknowledgment. I ordered the cornbread -I didn't think it was special. I wish it was piping hot. I ordered the fish and shrimp with the oxtail fried rice -it was delicious. It was fresh. It was hot. It was perfect. I also had the mac & cheese and again nothing special, it was good, but not something I would rant and rave about. for a cocktail I ordered uncle Duke (a sweet version of an old-fashioned) and it was also great. for dessert. I ordered the peach cobbler.-quite possibly the worst dessert I've ever had in my life. The peaches were hard, it wasn't sweet at all, it was very watery. The topping was difficult to chew. It was awful. I informed the bartender I went on and paid for it anyway. (the bartender should have insisted that I not pay as it was evident, I barely ate Any of It) the ambience was nice. After a long time wanting to try Red Rooster my wife surprised me and decided to take me out for a special dinner. We were both super excited. It was a Saturday early dinner and we were lucky to find paid street parking right in front. There was a big empty lot nearby but they were charging a lot more. Upon entering we noticed the bar which looked like a happening time. Good amount of people and they had a DJ. Maybe next time since we had our kid with us. Since we had done our research we were ready for our order. We absolutely needed to try their Guyanese Oxtail, the Fried Yardbird and the Cornbread. We were gutted when the server told us they were out of Guyanese Oxtail. I mean it was early on a Saturday and didnt get it. So we had to pivot and get the Mac and Cheese with Crab and the Fish Fry & Oxtail Fried Rice. Cornbread was outstanding. The Fried Yardbird was probably the best Fried Chicken I've ever had in my life. The Mac & Cheese with Crab and the Fish Fry & Oxtail Fried Rice were ok. Not sure if it was because they were plan B or not but it wasn't exciting to us. Fortunately or Unfortunately, depending on how you want to look at it. The manager stopped by our table and we expressed our disappointment with the Oxtail. He explained they had a higher than anticipated orders of Oxtail during the lunch hour. And that it took time to make more. We understood. Well later during our meal they brought us an order of the Guyanese Oxtail on the house for our inconvenience. Which as a former front of the house manager myself I can greatly appreciate that level of customer service. I saw my wife's eyes light up and that made it all better. For dessert we had the Blackberry Cobbler with Key Lime Ice Cream. It was the perfect ending to the evening. I almost forgot to mention the Yes Chef cocktail I had. It was incredibly refreshing and immediately bought the ingredients to make my own. Unfortunately my version wasn't the same. Overall the night was amazing. Next, we had Marcus' Cornbread which was good and the butter had a little spice to it and the Magic City Donuts were sweet and kind of melted in your mouth. For our main dishes there were WeekenderBreakfast, the meat was excellent it comes with Chimichurri sauce on it, but you should order it on the side so you can taste the smoked meat. Next up the Chicken and Waffles a perfect combination of sweet and savory. Then there were the Dom's Crispy Bird Sandwich, although they said it was a bit spicy, no one that ordered them seems to think they were. From the front entrance of large open windows, a beautifully located central wrap-around bar, and an upstairs pathway of old vibes that teleports you into the past with a breath of a prosperous future. The food here is second to none regarding various options, plating presentation, smells, & taste. Deviled eggs, chicken wings, Marcus cornbread, fried yardbird & biscuits, and the BBQ Pork ribs! these are all the things I ordered and had the pleasure of trying and I'm glad I did. It's really pretty and for those who like to take pics I'm sure you can find a cute area. Live saxophone, pianist and singer .... Now unfortunately the wait list was pretty long(3hrs) however the bar was open and it was just me and one other person so it worked out. Came here for the first time on Saturday night. The entrance is very inviting with a door man that opens for you as you enter and the bar is right in front of you to the left. The bartenders were extremely friendly and knowledgeable about recommendations. I had a shot of the mccallen 15 and old fashioned with mccallen so I'm not sure about their other drinks. This is an extremely well designed and decor filled restaurant (instagrammagle) which makes it great for dates and groups. Our group of 6 was seated near the middle so we had good views of everything. Their dinner menu is a bit limited, but we had the cornbread to start and everybody ordered their food afterwards. For the price, I assumed the prime dawdawa steak would be phenomenal but after waiting about 30-40 min for all our food to come out it wasn't warm at all and after each bite I was not left impressed. Everyone else said their options were good, but the best that I was able to get a bit of was the fried yard bird. It had a great mixture of crunchy mess and flavor ( definitely recommended). The Cabernet wine was also good and recommended. Throughout the night they had a DJ playing music that made the experience more enjoyable. So overall, this restaurant is in a great location, has good food options and and great for a beginning night out on the town. If you're not ready to leave, They also have an upstairs bar to the side where the DJ was playing Afro beats, soca, kompa, and other enjoyable music that had everyone having a good time.
