We've been to Red Rooster twice before and had been happy with the food and service. In fact, the fried chicken had been the best, juiciest, most savory fried chicken I'd ever had. On a recent night, my husband and I stopped by for dinner and were offered the Black History Month fixed price menu. I immediately was excited to see fried green tomatoes on that menu because they were delicious the first time I'd had them at Red Rooster some years ago. However, I wanted to stick to a main course of fried chicken, which wasn't on the special menu. So my husband figured he'd order from the Black History Month menu and I'd stick with the chicken from the à la carte menu. Imagine how disappointed and perplexed we were when the waitress said the chef did not allow anything other than the entire table ordering from the fixed price menu if any of us wanted that special menu. In other words, my husband couldn't order the special menu and I couldn't pick from the regular menu. Totally baffled. We were there for a nice time on a rare date night without the children so I didn't want to invest energy in pushing back on such a silly requirement. If you are serving a table of 10 are you telling me they all have to be on board with ordering from the special menu, otherwise no one can have that as an option? So my husband ordered from the regular menu, spending about 30 percent less money. He ordered the smoked oxtail, which was really savory with a nice sauce and sweet peppers and a side of coconut lime rice. I ordered my fried chicken atop a corn and spinach mash and a delicious gravy. Unfortunately, the chicken was truly run-of- the mill and tasted nothing like the fried chicken I'd had before. It wasn't bland, but the drier parts of white meat had no flavor. It was quite average. The waitress knew not being able to order from both menus had been a letdown so she brought over a courtesy cornbread offering. I appreciated that, but it still wasn't enough to make me return to Red Rooster frankly. We came because of our prior experiences, but there are plenty of new restaurants with a variety of cuisines in South Florida. We will opt for something new instead. read more

Nice place located between downtown and midtown. Location has a city parking lot located on side of building. This is on the edge of the newly renovated a neighborhood and is really nicely redone with beautiful decor and very big has two floors. Pool hall and dj upstairs with nice outdoor balcony and lots of seating. I was here for a liquor event and drinks where free not sure on pricing but place seems real nice and I would recommend. We arrived on mother's day with my 85-year old sister. The music was blasting at club level. I ordered shrimp and grits while my two guests ordered chicken and waffles. My sister's chicken was well overcooked and my shrimp and grits were obviously sitting for a considerable time to the point that the grits had coagulated into one single mass, which could be cut with a knife. Overall, this place is "just okay" and it was quite a strange experience from a service perspective. The interior is very "cool" with fun lounge seating and wallpaper. As for the food- the cornbread tasted like it was out of a Jiffy box with a fancy butter. The cassava papa bravas were bland and did not have enough sauce or crisp to be close to a true patatas bravas. The salmon had good flavors. My friend ordered the ribeye, and although the place was empty (5 tables and it was 7:30 pm), they told him they ran out and he had to order something else. This was just strange! We had a large party. When the checks came, we split it 3 ways. After we had paid and signed the bills/tipped, they came back and awkwardly pulled one of my friends aside and told her that they forgot to add the automatic 20% gratuity. I'd been wanting to check this place out for quite a while and finally had the opportunity. I saw that they have music for brunch and thought it would be great for my Saturday plans with my friend who flew in. I had the oxtails and grits and she had the friend chicken and waffles. I initially planned on having the chicken because it looks great online until I saw the oxtail as an option. I asked to add a side of chicken but that isn't an option to do anything a la carte. I loved my entree it was well seasoned and super tender. My friend also enjoyed hers. The service was ok. Nothing exemplary or memorable. And the overall vibe and atmosphere gave snooze fest. There was a Soca Party happening across the street so parking was tricky to find thankfully our friend who made the reservation got there before us to get our table. It wasn't full that night but a good amount of tables were filled. The bar area was almost full. We walked in and the restaurant is really nice. I really like the layout, decor and ambiance of the restaurant. I'm sure it must be really nice in the daytime with the big glass doors and windows. The volume of the music was fine at first but after a while I couldn't hear myself think given that everyone at other tables were now shouting to have a conversation over the music and it wasn't a very full restaurant. This could be because of the time we were there. Maybe earlier in the night/day it's not as loud. We started off with drinks and an appetiser. We got the Marcus Cornbread which was really good with the jalapeno honey butter- I should try making it at home. My friend ordered the Garlic Crab which I took a small taste of and was really good. It reminded me of a mac & cheese type dish. I didn't have a big appetite that night so my husband I thought to split something light. The mains sounded like a lot of food and heavy. But to my surprise when my friend ordered the 1/2 Jerk Chicken plate we were mistaken we could have managed that. The size of the half chicken looked like the size of a quarter chicken. I got the wagyu burger which was excellent, I got pickles and a pepper on the side which I added the the burger. So much for not having much of an appetite right? I came through Miami on my way home from a vacation down south, and I chose this place to be my dinner spot. It had just gotten recognized on the Michelin Guide, and the owner is one of my favorite Chopped judges, so I could not say no. I made my reservations and showed up and got seated in the middle of their amazing dining room that transported me to another decade. So beautiful. We got our menus and started to browse. Instantly, we knew we had to start with Marcus' Cornbread (Jalapeno, Honey Butter). This cornbread was so silky smooth. I usually like my cornbread with kernals present, but this was more like a firm cake that that amazing butter spread across really nice, with little jalapeno pieces jutting out from it like stalagmites. Every other bite had a big sea salt crystal which really set it off. So amazing. For my main, I ordered off the Black History Month Menu. I got the Carolina Style Smoked Pulled Whole Hog (Smoked Suckling Pigs, Florida Citrus Mop + SC Carolina BBQ Sauce, sides of Creamy BBQ Slaw, Cajun Fries, Pimento Cheese Toast). I loved that this menu existed and was highlighted as their forefront menu for that night. Very well composed dish. Crispy, cheesy toast. Covered with a barely wet dollop of pulled pork. And then every bite is customizable from there. There was cole slaw on the side, pickles, and two kinds of Carolina-style BBQ sauce that you could pour on as much as you want or dip the Very well seasoned fries into. Big fan of this dish. I also got to try the Sister Jones Lamb Chops (Peach Chutney). Well-cooked. A nice, charred rub on the chops that paired well with the sweet peach chutney. And all of that contrasted well with the acidic pickled onions drizzled on top. Super. We got that with a side of Towners Mac & Cheese (Sharp Cheddar Mozzarella Gratin). Mac is best presented in a white bowl with a bubbly, crispy, cheesy top. Topped with some sort of cracker crumb. Very ooey, very gooey, very good. The top two desserts we wanted weren't available that night, so we orderd the Strawberry Key Lime Cobbler Pie (Philly Cream Cheese Anglaise, Strawberry Rosemary Compote). Very interesting. A deconstructed key lime pie, with with a dollop of strawberry sorbet or sherbet or something. Overall, I was very happy with Red Rooster. We came with the family on a Sunday for late brunch. As soon as we walked in, the music had us wanting to break out in a dance. It was live and a vibe. Keep in mind, the music is loud and I know that's not everyone's cup of tea. For myself, give me allll the sounds. Red Rooster is beautiful. Stumbled across this place after arriving at the Brightline station and looking for lunch in the area. I've heard of this place from Food Network, it's the restaurant of Chef Marcus Samuelsson. It was about a ten minute walk to get here from the Station. We sat outside on the huge covered patio area. We arrived just around noon on a weekday and it was pretty empty, so service was great and not an issue. I ordered the Overtown Burger, it was delicious, has some unique spices on it but not like spicy hot. The fries were also cooked and seasoned perfectly. He explained the setup, and invited us to get started. So much to choose, from! The food was great but I don't think the service could get worse. It took nearly half an hour just to order because the waiter was too busy flirting with our table. We were there to celebrate one of our friends and asked him to start the orders with her, however he made a joke to her about getting married and said he'd start at the opposite side of the table. When we received our check we asked if it could be split but the waiter expressed that it is too difficult so one member paid. When we each sat there to pay back the person who paid the entire tab, we noticed we were overcharged 4 drinks. We asked the waiter to take them off and he stated no I gave you guys a few free shots so it's all even. I stated if they were free shots then why are we being charged for it? We didn't ask or order the shots, he brought them to us and said they were free, yet after we were charged for 4 cocktails his story changed. Also I don't believe the price of cocktails and shots are the same. We went back and forth and ultimately some of our group didn't want to cause a scene so they decided to just leave without the refund. We sat near the bar and I opted to start with a Bird's of Paradise cocktail. It's a fun little mezcal cocktail that has red wine and grapefruit as well. For food we ordered: +Cornbread +Deviled Eggs +Fried Chicken +Mac and Cheese Now I will say, the menu we went for was definitely a stretchy pants vibe, but they do have a variety of things on the menu that are on the lighter side. The restaurant itself is very well, decorated even down to the wallpaper. The bartenders were very good at their jobs as the drinks all tasted fantastic, and the creators of the drinks should be proud of themselves. Didn't get a chance to try food this time around, but will certainly be back! We were going to order the macaroni and cheese dish that I heard they were famous far but they were out at the time. I would have loved to leave a better review, but I won't be able to do that until I visit again and find all wait staff from today replaced. I've been to this restaurant a few times, and on a couple holidays including Mother's Day and Juneteenth. Today was Father's Day, and I have never been more disappointed in the wait times we experienced. 1:30pm reservation, didn't get seated until close to 2pm, didn't receive our food until THREE THIRTY P.M., and didn't even get our checks until after 4:30! What's worse is that the restaurant wasn't even that crowded once we finally got our food, so to wait a whole hour after that, having our waiter review ALL EIGHT OF OUR CHECKS FOUR TIMES with us, and to STILL have errors on our checks, was egregious. And even after discussing it with the manager/staff lead, our waiter got NO HELP from ANY of his staff! We were a large group, okay, but I honestly have never experienced such long wait times at EACH STEP of our experience. Now for the food: it absolutely could have been better, and HAS been WAY better in the past. I ordered the Oxtail Benedict (forget the exact name of the dish), with collard greens, Mac and cheese, and cornbread on the side. No dish can be rated higher than a 7.5 for me, with oxtail and cornbread at 7.5, collards at 6.5, and mac and cheese 5 (just not a fan of the flavor combo, but it was very much "okay"). Our table had the chicken and waffles which the men were fans of; chicken was flavorful, but not a whole lot of meat on it. Salmon salad was also good, and the smoked wings were good. I didn't get detailed reviews on those, but if their food was anything to write home about, I'd know it. I also had The Dame drink which was pretty good, could have had a little more natural sweetness. Their strawberry lemonade was way too sweet. Lastly, as I mentioned it wasn't that crowded toward the end of our meal (which is why it shouldn't have taken AN HOUR TO GET OUR CHECKS), but when we walked in it was packed, wall to wall. This place used to be good when not everybody in the world knew about it, but it's time to both expand and replace your staff. This will likely be my last time visiting this restaurant. I'd say it's just bc it's a holiday that it was this crazy, but as I've mentioned, I've been here on holidays in the past. It's the staff. This was my second visit to Red Rooster! I had to bring my mother - I told her they have Guyanese Pepperpot on the menu, so once she arrived in town this was on her list. She loved it, even though it was made slightly different than we make ours in Guyana;; we use cassareep for our sauce but it was still delicious. The meat falls off the bones. We also had the cornbread and the hot salmon. All great. Finally, the service is outstanding!!! Special shout out to Essa, she is an amazing server and I think just as a person in general. Finally made it to Red Rooster. This was our long overdue girlie time of four ladies. None of us had been before. These are my thoughts. The decor is gorgeous - I loved it. The scenario is vibrant, fun, Caribbean and so so pleasant. Our server Andrew B was fun attentive and looked the part! He knew the concept and could happily describe the dishes. We tried a few items from their lunch menus. The cornbread is a winner and you must order it. One of my favorite dining experiences. Went here with a friend on a slow night, but I can tell by their social media that the place is usually poppin on weekends. Chef Marcus showed gave us a tour of the restaurant and history of the building as well. We shared all of the food and they had no issue with making all the meals shareable for us. 1: Towner's Mac & Cheese w/ buttered crab- it was absolutely perfect southern style Mac. The cheese, seasoning, and crab meat ratio was perfection. 2. Chicharron Deviled Eggs - I've never had deviled eggs with cronch to it, and now I don't see myself eating it any other way. Growing up in a house with family from Chicago and New Orleans -- I've had my fair share of amazing cornbread. I would put Red Rooster's up with anyone. You must get this for your table. Decor - The overall decor and vibe were great. The overall ambiance is great, an homage to its history as a mainstay in the black community during segregation. The music they played in the background was ideal - a lot of mid-90s to current R&B that was loud enough to hear but not so loud that you couldn't have a conversation. Chicken and Waffles - I had the chicken and waffles. It was substantial but messy -- definitely, not a meal for a date or a business meeting. It is hard to eat because the bone is in. Therefore, you have to eat it by hand. The chicken was tasty, and you had more chicken than waffles, so the food/price ratio is in your favor. I would try a different meal if I went back because they had a good amount of options that sounded intriguing. Pro Tip - make a reservation if you go for lunch on a Saturday or Sunday. I was looking forward to dining here for some time and came for Mother's Day brunch. We arrived about 10 minutes early to our reservation and had to wait about 10-15 minutes past our reservation time despite the restaurant having plenty of empty tables. The restaurant is beautifully decorated in the heart of Overtown. There's a pay by phone parking lot adjacent to the restaurant with plenty of spaces. Parking was a little pricey though for a weekend. We started with a couple of cocktails which were good. I had the Old Uncle Duke which is their version of an Old fashioned and my daughter had the Lady Day. To start we ordered the deviled eggs and the cornbread. Both were delicious. The jalapeño butter for the cornbread was really good. For our main dishes we ordered the RR Oxtail Benedict, the Yardbird and waffles, and the Yardbird with biscuits. Unfortunately, the main dishes did not impress us. The oxtail was super spicy. The chicken had good flavor, but the biscuits and waffles were not good. The waffles were even cold. We also ordered a side of cheese grits which I thought the texture was more like mashed potatoes than grits. We were very disappointed with the main dishes. On Sunday's they have a gospel singer and a saxophone player which was a nice addition to the brunch. For dessert we ordered the Bourbon Pecan Pie and it was delicious. The service is good. They have a good amount of staff working and they come around often to pick up dirty plates - at times a little too eager to pick up all the plates and cups from the table. This possibly is the worst dinning experience I've ever had... these people should be ashamed to unlock the door. Supposedly there is some there is historical back story to this place however you wouldn't notice by any part of their presentation... Had an absolutely incredible Thanksgiving yesterday at Red Rooster. This year, our family decided to do smaller separate celebrations so I chose RR for my dad & I. We love this place! The vibes are soooooo good, the decor is sooooooo cool, music was great & the Southern Thanksgiving Day Feast was fantastic! We got there a little early so the beautiful hostess, Mia asked us to wait at the bar. We had a cocktail & by the time we were done, our table was ready. Truth be told, I was not delighted with where we sat but I had forgotten to request patio seating when I made the reservation & Mia very graciously "made it happen" so I didn't want to seem ungrateful. The teeny table was pushed up against the concrete planter wall (which was more dirt than plants) & not very comfortable. Nevertheless, we settled in, chose our main entrées & sat back to enjoy the afternoon. First up on the prix fixe menu was ENDIVE SALAD, TUNA TIRADITO & CORN BREAD W HONEY BUTTER. The salad was great, the tiradito super fresh & beautiful cuts of fish but the cornbread??? THAT CORNBREAD!!! Just to die for & still warm, melting the delicious honey butter perfectly. We were in heaven. We had decided beforehand that we would order the FRIED TURKEY & the FRIED CATFISH & then share which is exactly what we did. As good as the turkey was, the catfish was even better!!! Flavors were fantastic. The sides included CANDIED YAMS (yummm!), MAC & CHEESE (also yummmm!), COLLARD GREENS (was dying to try but sadly, they were made with pork but dad loved it). Just realized that they never brought out the stuffing! womp, womp. Regardless, the meal was great & I really liked our server, Pedro too! Very attentive & sweet. After we are, we were escorted to the back elevators & told to go upstairs to their speakeasy/pool hall for dessert. As the elevator doors opened, we were blown away by this new venue! Pictures of celebrities past were plastered all over the walls in a fantastic collage, softly illuminated in red by the neon sign declaring "Harlem of the South", as Overtown was once known. As you walked in, the space opened up to a large, breezy space packed with gorgeous 70's furniture, a small, bar, outdoor patio over looking the city & of course, a dessert spread. We had a choice of 2: CHOCOLATE BITE & the CHOCOLATE PECAN PIE were my favourites. Also had a yummy Espresso Martini from the bar. Everyone who worked there was SO GREAT! I (& my dad who could not stop exclaiming "Omg, I love this place! It's so cool") had an amazing time & could not recommend it enough. Well done, Red Rooster! We went to red roosters for brunch on Sunday for my husbands 40th. I currently have a knee scooter, and they accommodated me. There was awesome live singing and saxophone and the place had an happy vibe. We ordered Cornbread - soft and delicious Fish fritters - balanced delicious and spicy Garlic crab- this was a tad too lemony Fish sandwich - perfectly fried Branzino- crisp on the outside moist tender with delicious chimchurri. Loved the service the vibe the food- definitely a great place for brunch read more

First time stopping by for brunch and was blown away by the large selection of foods which were all so delicious. I loved the fact brunch ended later in the day so you don't have to wake up super early to make it on time. The outside seating was so beautifully set up and I would highly recommend sitting outside. All the staff were so nice Vincent on bbq made sure I got my meat exactly how I asked, tj on omilet station provided freshly made omelets. I got here when they were opening so it was so nice and quiet. Sitting at the bar there is such a nice smell of incense and beautiful art work. The hamachi was incredible and the honey dew made it such a nice sweet and fresh flavor. I definitely wanted to comment on how amazing the chicken was inside of the Caesar salad. For some reason chicken is always so dry and Caesar salad and this was the first time I had a nice soft flavorful piece of chicken breast in my salad! read more

I give them praise for creating such warm hospitality and flavorful dishes served at such a beautiful establishment. This is our second time visiting red rooster and we were very pleased. We had oxtail eggs Benedict and the Floridian crab cake. I honestly don't have any complaints. Our server, I believe her name is jessica b, took great care of us.
