I hired Red Rugs last year to perform a deep clean on our area rugs. Unfortunately, I didn't have the same stellar experience that others had. I had no idea how sub par the service was until I tried a different vendor this year who actually cleaned our rugs. I'm not sure how Red Rugs received all the great reviews. I could say the technician was having an off day but I'll never know because I've found a different vendor who actually did what he was hired to do-clean our rugs. I hired John to clean my apartment's carpets. Let's just say that dirty was huge, huge understatement. These things were covered in stains in dirts after four years of four guys sharing an apartment, rolling bikes around, playing drinking games and having parties. John arrived a bit late (not a big deal though), and proceeded to go to town on my carpets. At $125/hr, he's not cheap, but he's also not that expensive, and he works quickly. It took him about two hours to tackle our 600ft living room, which was very dirty (see photos). He did a great job, and we'll look forward to hiring him again in four year...er, next year. This review is about a month overdue because I've been spending way too much time cleaning the apartment that the previous tenant left in poor condition. Now on to my story. In the second bedroom of the apartment that we just moved into, there was a HUGE stain in the middle of the floor. I don't know exactly what it was, but it seemed like someone just dumped charcoal or ash in the middle of the floor and just left it as is. When getting my carpet cleaned, I relied on Yelp ratings and I'm glad I chose Red Rugs. Jonathan was very professional on the phone and called prior to starting cleaning the location before mine. He set up his equipment and then started his timer before starting to clean. He ratings it would take 60-90 minutes and it ended up being 60 minutes. We can not suggest Red Rugs...Jon is not a professional cleaner. He arrives with a backpack and a bottle of solvent. No cleaning machine. The solvent can make a permanent ring around the stain. He does not use water extraction machine or normal process for cleaning upholstery or carpet. My wife and I needed to share this info. Please use a company that is professional and uses the most updated technology...not a man who arrives with a back pack and tells you his business is thriving. John called back on Sunday (wow! already a minor miracle with companies these days) and slipped us into an opening. (He said Sunday's are rarely available so we were lucky.) He did a thorough job, and was able to remove water stains that we didn't expect was possible. He even came under estimate! His company charged much less than a couple others that we called and he was really personable. We're going to have him clean our primary residence in the near future. He cleaned the carpets in my rental property without me being present, which was super convenient as I live an hour away. He called me in advance of arriving at my property, did his thing, then called to discuss the job with me after. He informed me of a stain he couldn't get out, which turned out, on further inspection by my husband, to actually be a bleached or otherwise uncleanable spot. My household is pretty tidy, but I can't say with certainty when the last time was that the carpets were given a good scrub down. So a week ago, I scheduled a carpet cleaning with John. Day of: he calls to confirm the time and lets us know that he'll be running late. Understandable since he works alone. Also, it wasn't a huge deal since we still had to vacuum and move furniture around to accommodate him. The area to be cleaned wasn't much (about 10 steps and a walkway), but it sees a lot of traffic. John asked permission to use water from the bathtub and took less than an hour ("seven-tenths," he claimed--as he charges by the hour) to scour the place. If carpet could sparkle, this would. Pricier if you have only one 15x15 room to clean but cheaper than getting new carpet (~$500!) He cleans carpets WELL. Best of all He is very nice and not creepy! I'm hopping on the bandwagon with the rest of these Yelp fanatics... I'm a fan of John's work. We played phone tag to get initially scheduled, but John always returned my call same-day and we figured out a time that worked with my crazy schedule (FYI, he usually books the prime before/after-work appointments about 1-2 weeks in advance). He asked me about the size of my apartment, whether I had a particular problem with the carpet or just wanted a maintenance clean, and other questions that helped him put together a preliminary estimate over the phone. Day-of: Courtesy call right on schedule, estimating he'd be there within an hour. He arrived a few minutes after his arrival window (traffic/parking) but got to work right away and 45 minutes later they'd cleaned my studio carpets and were on their way! As for the quality: I admit I don't know what I'm talking about in the carpet-cleaning department, but there were a few stains I'd just assumed were permanent (from before I moved in 3 years ago) that they removed without even blinking. I'd forgotten to tell John on the phone about the carpeted stairs, and in-person he thought the extra time might put him over his phone estimate, but they worked so quickly the $75 estimate ended up being the final price. If you stay home and work from the apartment while they do their thing (like I did), be warned the machine is pretty noisy... so don't expect to hop on a conference call or be entirely undisturbed. It gets the job done, so I'm not complaining, but word to the wise if you make an appointment for while you're working. read more

Thanks Yelp again, this time for making carpet cleaning service hunt so easy.. and more so to find as nice a person as Jon for his excellent service! After seeing so many good reviews i decided to give Red Rugs a try and the $75 offer looked most appropriate for my tight budget. Needed an immediate appointment as we were expecting some guests home and our carpet needed extensive cleaning. Jon quickly set an appointment for next day over phone and gave a rough estimate after noting all details about type of carpet and the stains. On the day of appointment as he was stuck in traffic he called up to inform so, which showed his immense professionalism. Our carpet had many deep black spots mostly in high traffic areas and stains of spilled food and drinks due to 2 years of extensive use, partying and drinking. So it was in pretty bad shape and screamed for attention. Jon did a quick walk-through of the room and with complete honesty told me that some of the spots are difficult but he would give his best. What d hell...the result was utterly MAGIC!!! The carpet looked all new and healthy, with all spots vanished. I am beyond words to show how happy I am!! The end result speaks in itself, and proved that Jon worked really hard on the carpet. God bless this guy, who is so honest and hard working! Best spent $75 of the year! In a fit of excitement I managed to spill some Framboise Lambic on our fantastic Yellow area rug, and also on our Yellow Sofa! Disaster you would think.. Absolute disaster. Left a message for John on Tuesday, he called back on Wednesday at Lunchtime, and by 3pm the rug looked like new and the sofa cushion was back to it's original non stained yellow.. John did a fantastic job with our yellow and white flat weave area rug. We had two longstanding stains and he was able to remove one completely, and the other one almost entirely (our fault for not calling sooner). In addition, because he had to spot clean it by hand instead of using his machine on the whole thing, he ended up charging us less than his minimum charge. John is honest, hardworking, and a true pro. He was very good at communicating about his arrival time, and bonus points for using natural/nontoxic cleaners and also for bringing footies to protect our floors (we have a no-shoes household).
