My experience with Donna was wonderful! The atmosphere of her salon is friendly and serene. Donna carefully listened to my description of my hair's idiosyncrasies, reviewed photos of what I had in mind with me--even checking to make sure that our perception of the photos matched--and proceeded with the haircut. She proceeded to do exactly what she wanted in an old fashion manner and seem to bristle at my suggestions. I don't get my hair done often. I'm not sure why; some part of me seems to think of it as a frivolous expenditure to be put at the bottom of the priority list. (As to why a haircut is "frivolous" while ordering six bottles of Special Effects dye is a good investment, I have no idea; take it up with my subconscious.) So when I say that I've been searching for years for someone to give me a particular haircut, keep in mind that that's only maybe three or four tries at different salons. That said? Donna at Red Shoes was the first person I've been to who gave me exactly the cut I wanted, on the first go, without any "just an inch more off the back". Chin-length bob, very short in the back, straightened. Flattering to my face, easy to maintain, just punky enough to go with the ever-changing color palette. I don't know if it's a particularly difficult cut to do or if most stylists are just afraid the customer won't actually want it that short, but after the previous several close-but-not-quite experiences I was overjoyed to finally have my hair just like I'd envisioned. Even better? It was fairly inexpensive ($35 including wash, blow-dry, and tip), and Donna is an excellent conversationalist (which, in my case, mostly means being an excellent listener - a rare and important skill in a stylist). The only downside is that she's understandably busy; I had to schedule a month in advance the first time I went, which admittedly was during peak season in Bisbee. But I guarantee the experience (and the results!) will be worth waiting for. read more

I must admit I was apprehensive getting my hair cut in Bisbee. I just wasn't sure if hairstylists in Bisbee were on the same playing field as they would be in larger cities. But then I thought they have to get their license just like everyone else so I may as well give it a shot. Plus hair always grows so if it's horrendous, I've learned my lesson and I'll never do it again. None of that matters cause my girl Donna slays with scissors! Donna is the owner and only stylist at Red Shoes. She is warm, welcoming, funny and current with all things hair. I walked in with my hair ideas and I also showed a couple of pictures of styles that I like. She took it and ran with it. When she was finished my hair was exactly how I wanted it to be. She did a perfect job I also have to add that Donna under sells herself. She is cheap! I got a cut and highlight on one of my visits and it was roughly $60! Amazing! Anyhoo, if you find yourself in Bisbee and you need a fresh style, call up Donna. She'll make you feel like a magazine cover girl/boy. I've been going to Red Shoes to get my haircuts from Donna since she first opened (don't even know how many years that is now). Donna stays busy, I know enough to book two appointments out from the current one because I keep my hair short and three weeks is about all I can tolerate between haircuts. Donna's prices are reasonable, tipping is a joy because of the attention she gives me. In addition, Donna is a responsible member of our community, donating her services as part of just about any community fund raiser going on.
