This review is only for a plain pie as I haven't tried anything else from here. The restaurant is your standard mom and pop type pizzeria and very clean. They have some specialty pies on display for slices that looked good. I ordered a large pie to go which was $16 even though the menu listed it for $14.25, still not too bad a price especially these days. They do have some good coupons in the local papers such as 2 large pies for $23. The pie itself was decent but not too exciting. The sauce was a little sweet but good, and the cheese was good as well and just the right amount. The crust was decent too with a bit of crunch on the bottom. This area is inundated with pizzerias and I'm slowly working my way through them all. I would rate Red Star somewhere in the middle of my pie rating list. read more

Food is very good. They make a great cheesesteak with cooked peppers and onions. Pizza is also very good, though once it was a little salty. I've never eaten really in many years inside the establishment but they're great for takeout and delivery, and we've never had an issue with delivery time and/or quality. Red Star Pizza has been a landmark in Ewing for many years and they continue to be. Very friendly staff, and the service is always fantastic. read more

I'm convinced that Trenton is the pizza Capitol of New Jersey. And my stop in Red Star is continuing to prove this theory. I've seen this pizzeria several times while going to and from the airport, but have never stopped in. Today was the day that I wasn't busy and it was close to lunchtime. Nothing out of the ordinary from most Jersey pizza joints... Small, a little dim, a few pics of the homeland, not many tables, in a small business strip.... But the pizza at this place is where this story brightens up... Just the sight of roughly 15 pizzas on the counter behind the glass for slices was a sight that made the choice extremely hard. I went with one plain slice and another with two topping... The crust stood up to the test of not being undercooked, it was crispy, could actually be held up with one hand even though it was a large slice, and was great tasting. While they had the usual spices and parmesan cheese on the counter, this pizza needed none of it... The sauce and cheese used were great.... Like i mentioned, these slices were pretty large. So I was more than full when finished.... I'm usually prepared for the let down that's typical at some unknown places that I walk into. It normally starts with the soggy crust that will let everything slide off onto the plate when picking it up, and then the disappointment continue. Red Star left a good impression here. I won't be second guessing where I'm going to stop for a quick bite to eat the next time that I'm in the area. read more

Called ahead to pick up a large pie for dinner. Half plain. Half sausage. This was my first visit to Red Star Pizza 3, and my impression was that it was attractive inside, with room to sit for dinner, and had a friendly efficient staff. The pizza was ready when I arrived, and I was back on the road in under five minutes. Opening the box in my kitchen, it looked good and had a nice aroma. Pizza is always best eaten straight from the oven, and this one confirmed that axiom. Both slices had the right combo of sauce and cheese, but having cooled for a while, the crust was now weak and could not hold the topside weight. Still, the taste was there. The sausage crumble was strong. We had a decent dinner from Red Star, and will get back there to mange in house as soon as possible. read more

I Love pizza so when I was in town from LA visiting my family I placed an order for delivery for 2 pizzas the day of my flight. I ordered one plain and the other plain with half pepperoni and mushroom. The girl who took my order said ok it will be there in 40 minutes. My mom received the delivery, but when I opened the box they gave me the wrong toppings. Instead of mushroom and pepperoni they brought us sausage and pepperoni which was totally wrong. So, I called them and explained what happened and request a refund since they messed up the order. However, when I spoke to the girl who took my order instead of apologizing for the mistake she proceeded to tell me that I was lying and that I ordered sausage not the mushrooms. I said no, I know what I ordered and this is incorrect. So then she put me on hold and a man came to the phone. I explained again that my order was incorrect and I requested a refund on the pizza he offered to send a new one, but I could not accept that offer because I was about to head to the airport to go back to L.A. And I did not want to be late. So I requested a refund and he said ok. I paid the delivery man in cash so I told him I would stop in to pick up my refund on my way to the airport. I ended up sending my sister bc I was running late. She had a copy of the receipt I sent her and a picture of the pizza with the wrong toppings. She said when she got there they acted like they didn't know what she was talking about and went and got the cook Sal who gave my sister a $2.50 cent refund for the toppings instead of the whole pizza $13.75, which is not what I was told over the phone! I am very disappointed in the lack of customer service and politeness toward myself and my family who have resided in Ewing for over 20 years! The plain pizza I did taste was burnt at the bottom with very tough crust and tasted mediocre at best. Needless to say Red Star Pizza has now lost our business for good and I will spread the word to all of my other friends and family in Ewing of the experience I had here today 6/24/2018! read more

Why does the Delaware river stand between me and good pizza? Why is Jersey and NYC pizza better? Well for whatever reason that's the fact, Jack Trenton is known for loads of different cuisines some more toothsome imo then others. If there's a cuisine that unites the Garden State from High Point to Cape May however I think the foods of the southern boot are hard to argue against. Napoli, home of neapolitan pizza is in Campania certainly deep in the red sauce Belt of southern Italy. Red Star pizza has many items featuring gravy; their pizza ranges from good to excellent. Imo the mushroom that I had today was ideal crunchy but not hard crust, tasty sauce and toppings and restraint with the cheese so that the za isn't cheese pie. I've been eating pizza from this convenient to Trenton airport joint for years - it's often the highlight of trips. I haven't tried anything other then pizza which is always, in my experience uniformly good although the hoagies subs and other dishes have looked good when I visit. Reasonable prices 3.00 for a slice with one topping, what's stopping g you from trying it out? read more

I live in Philly and have had my share of pizza. I work close to Red Star and go there a couple times a week for lunch. They always have a big selection of slices - I have tried most of them and never had a slice I didn't love. Their ownership/mgmt team is always super nice. I definitely recommend if you are crossing through town or live close by. I can't speak to their sandwiches / wings / etc. but I imagine those are spot on as well. read more

My husband and I order from this place all the time because it's down the street from us and they deliver. We've always been happy with our orders, they deliver quickly, and the service is professional and friendly. A little expensive, but they get a pizza to my house in 20 minutes, so I'll pay it every time. The pizza is adequate, but the sauce isn't super flavorful. The crust is nice and they use a good cheese, I just wish there was a little more flavor. I usually just add my own garlic powder and parm, which helps. Not a real complaint...obviously I keep ordering from them! read more

Best pizza joint in the Trenton area, no doubt. The staff is accommodating. The pizza is always fresh at the counter. Any time I order, it's always ready for pick-up. The pizza: love the crust, love the sauce. 5 out of 5. I've lived in Ewing for 5 years and was unimpressed with the pizza offerings here--surprisingly crummy for a college town. Got a coupon for this place and thought I'd try it today. I feel like I found a gold mine in Ewing. First off, the place is small but very clean--always a good sign that there's pride of ownership. And the pizza--the ingredients are fresh, fresh, fresh! I got a large Brooklyn style with fresh mozarella, sausage, peppers, onions, and portobello mushrooms, all absolutely fresh, and the sauce was fresh-tasting too. The crust was flavorful and cooked to perfection. I had to make myself stop eating it after I was full! Even the cannoli (which I could only eat a bite of after all the pizza) was obviously made just today. I wish I'd known about this place before. I don't like to give 5 stars unless a business really deserves it, and I think this place does. I've only been there once so I'll update this review if this level of quality turns out to be a one-off, but as of right now I'm a fan! read more

The "3" in Red Star Pizza 3 is for three stars. I had hoped to leave myself enough time to grab a bite and a drink at Al's Airport Lounge before heading off on my first flight ever from Trenton Mercer Airport, but alas it was not meant to be. Time was very limited and I couldn't chance finding food in the "airport," so I drove a few hundred feet past Al's and saw a Red Star pizza joint. A quick lookup on Yelp confirmed what I figured might be the case: just another mediocre pizzeria in Jersey. Beggars can't be choosers, so in I went. The interesting thing about New Jersey is that we have a lot of pizza joints, and even the less stellar ones are better than what you'd typically find outside of Jersey. In cases like this where you just happen upon some local pizza outfit, chances are pretty good you'll find a decent slice to tide you over. Such was the case at today's unplanned visit to Red Star Pizza. An experience like this starts with a scan of all the available slices on the counter. In better pizzerias, you won't find too many ready-made pies that have been sitting out for hours on end. And to achieve that, many better pizzerias limit the variety of slices they have at any given time of day, generally sticking to plain, pepperoni, and perhaps a Sicilian or white that tend to move pretty quickly. (See also: Joe's in Manhattan.) Red Star had quite the variety when I stopped in, and most of it looked like it had been sitting out for at least a solid hour or more. Needless to say, things only looked mildly appealing at first glance. I generally order whatever looks most fresh, which in this case was a Sicilian slice - not my first choice typically. But for good measure, since this was my first time here, I had to make sure I tried a regular slice, too. (Pizza Snob Rule #1: Always get at least one plain slice when you try a new pizzeria for the first time. That's the true measure of any pizza place.) Both slices came out nice and hot, though the Sicilian looked like it had recovered better from it's cold, congealed sleep on the counter than the regular slice. To my surprise, both turned out tasting better than I expected. The pizza here tastes very old school, which, unfortunately, is very hard to describe unless you grew up in New York City or New Jersey and ate a lot of pizza in the 70s and 80s. There's a nostalgia to be experienced here, even though nothing about it is special. The flavors are all there, but everything tastes pretty generic. That said, nothing is wrong or out of place, either. If there was anything to note at all about the pizza is that they do a nice crust. Oftentimes generic pizza can be a little too doughy for this guy, but that was not the case here. The water must be decent in Trenton. And that's pretty much all that I can say about ole Red Star Pizza. Definitely not a place I'd go running back to, but fine in a pinch, which was what I was in. read more

This place has the best eggplant pizza around. Some may be saying 'eggplant pizza? Nasty!' but if you are one of those people, you haven't lived. If you like eggplant and like pizza, do it!! They also make other great pizzas including classics that everyone loves. Pizza aside, the antipasto salad is great and their entrees are full of flavor and huge portions. LOST TWO GOOD CUSTOMERS! Shame on you Red Star.... Myself and my family have been long time delivery customers of this place since the decent delivery options in the area are slim. The pizza was never the best, but it was always consistent and edible. Until tonight. We ordered a very simple large pizza, half olives, half onion and sausage, well done. This was the same pizza we ordered last week and enjoyed. Upon opening the box, we observed an abnormally large amount of liquid pooling on top of the pizza as well as a slightly odd smell. The amount of cheese on top looked excessive and under cooked, so we blamed the sogginess on that. Upon calling, the girl was very nice and apologetic and offered to send us a new pizza. The second pizza was no different. As a matter of fact, it was worse. Tired of waiting, we simply dabbed the top of the pizza with several paper towels and sat down to eat it. This time, the sausage was under cooked, the bottom of the pizza was burnt, and the smell was even more rancid. Upon calling the second time, we explained the issue to a gentleman (who sounded like an owner/manager) and requested a refund (any other solution would just be absurd at this point). He rudely informed us that he, "delivered us two pizzas now", and was not willing to refund us. He then promptly hung up on us. Needless to say, neither my household nor my parents household will ever be ordering from this place again. Pizza isn't rocket science and neither is good customer service. But Red Star managed to fail in both departments. NEVER AGAIN! read more

Stopped here for a quick slice. Place is a bit of a dive (outdated furniture, torn cushions, dingy bathroom) but the staff were friendly and the pizza was decent. Price was just right. If I found myself in the area again short on time I'd probably stop by. If I had more time, I might explore for other options. read more

This place is the worse. They charged my card twice and I had to come in and make a big deal to get my money back. They have good food and I don't believe they charge extra for delivery. I really like their cheesesteaks and bread sticks. Only problem is they usually get your delivery order wrong or charge your card incorrectly. Take-out here recently was very underwhelming, and the service was terrible. The order-taker on the phone sounded like I was the only thing keeping her from getting back down the shore. We were told our food would be ready in 20 minutes but when we showed up at 30 minutes our order wasn't ready. Then the counter-worker/order-taker didn't know our food was ready so we sat there for at least 5 more minutes while our food was waiting for us. That gave us the opportunity to read an article (taped to the soda machine) about how customers need to accept that pizza prices only go up, they never come down. Awesome, thanks! The pizza was OK, pretty basic, nothing special. The chicken parm was thin. The crust was well-browned, giving it a burned flavor (I actually liked this, but it was a little burned). Wow. Haven't been in years. They used to make the best baked ziti, I guess they've changed owners since then. So today, we Decided to pick up dinner here, we got baked ziti and lasagna. Wow was It was horrible! The sauce was tasteless and watery. Noodles were practically hard. And there were globs of half melted cheese. I actually threw more than half the ziti in the trash. The zuppa Tuscano soup was the worst I've ever had. I don't even know how they serve that. The bread? Yuk looked like it had spores growing on it. The only semi decent (and that's a stretch) thing from our order was the lasagna. Again watery/soupy sauce but the lasagna wasn't the worst in the world. The bad food, combined with the female cooks bad attitude, and difficult parking .. id recommend looking elsewhere for pizza/Italian food read more
