One of our favorite regular places for drinks and bites. Great local beer on tap, (shout out to Otherlands Beer), delightful cocktails, and an impressive tequila selection. My folks often join us for Taco Tuesday specials and appreciate the opportunity to choose exactly what they want at a special price. We also love Happy Hour and will go earlier to hit it. Staff and service are fabulous. It does get super busy at times, so be aware and be patient. Red Star has a fabulous patio, which is all ages, while inside seating is 21+ only. Groups and couples will both be comfortable in the causal and welcoming atmosphere. Red Star is located in the old Trolley / Greyhound station in Bellingham and pays homage to the history with large prints of times gone by. The restrooms have been updated to single occupancy, non-gendered rooms with a common handwashing area. Plenty of thought went into the updates Red Star implemented, while preserving historical architecture. The food is not traditional Mexican, many of the tacos are notably untraditional; including options such as the deluxe bacon cheeseburger taco. Vegans, veggies, and meat eaters will all be able to find a dish to meet their needs. My personal favorites are the Baja fish for dine in and a tofu burrito to go, my husband like Dad's and the cheeseburger taco. It is a great menu and the rotating specials keep it fresh. This is a big recommend if you are looking for a comfy, casual bite whether with a friend or meeting a big group. read more

The dude and I were having a taco craving last night, so of course I dove into my 26-in-26 notes and suggested Red Star. They've been open in the Ham for awhile now, and while I previously visited their Seattle location, I had yet to check them up at their more northerly outpost. It was a busy (apparently busier than usual, according to our server) Thursday evening so we did have to wait a bit for our beers and our tacos. But they turned out to be delicious and worth the wait. The dude enjoyed his carnitas and "cheeseburger" tacos, while I dove into my shrimp & tequila lime chicken tacos. Both were spicy and delicious. I loved the shrimp one especially! We felt the prices were fair, and the service (while harried) was definitely friendly. This place is 21+ only, so if you're looking for a kid-free taco experience, this is the spot! read more

Happy hour menu is fantastic! Margaritas were delish, and so were the happy hour tacos. It gets pretty busy, so you do need to be patient on ordering. But our waitress did great despite being super busy ! read more

The hostess was not friendly at all despite them not being busy at all. The drinks were also not very good and were almost pure alcohol and the tacos took over 30 minutes. There's no reason tacos should take that long. Tacos are easy to make fast and well, so when I want tacos they should NEVER take more than 30 minutes. The place is also tiny so the vibe can only be so good when the place is this small. read more

Service was fantastic and the food plentiful and yummy. We had nachos with carne asada , delicious! If visiting Bellingham a must do!

While it has unique taco options, it took 40 minutes to get tacos served and the tortillas were flaccid and tepid. Neither worth the time nor the expense. read more

Really wanted to love this place but overall it's just not that good. Tried many different tacos on a few different occasions and really only liked the Mom's and Cheeseburger tacos. The carne asada and carnitas tacos were bland, chewy, and soggy. Don't know how you can call yourself a taco place if the basics aren't even close to good? Atmosphere, drinks and service were great, but not enough to make it worth it. I hope they can improve the quality of their meats. read more

Cool atmosphere and decor but the taco's are mid for a place with taco in the name. I got the two-taco plate, basically $11 in tacos and what tasted like canned beans and rice. Nothing seemed fresh. We also had chips and salsa. Salsa looked good but lacked flavor. They've got work to do to hit 5 stars. read more

Excellent margaritas. Our party tried the jalapeno blackberry, habanero mango, roasted pineapple and the guava slushy. All excellent. Queso was a large portion and absolutely delicious. Loved the carne asada tacos and nachos. Looking forward to going back. Service was a little slow, but service attitude was 100% on point. Do yourself a favor and try the honey sriracha tofu taco...it is sooo good. I want to try the other tacos but I like the tofu so much I haven't branched out. Service is quick and friendly read more

My husband and I went to Red Star Taco tonight for what we thought would be a quick bite, wrong. Service was polite, but terrible. I had to get up 3 times to ask for different items for our table after no one stopped by to get us water, flatware, salsa and just to check in. The food was lack luster and pretty flavorless to me. My husband said the chips were good, my comment "if we had something to dip them in!!" Definitely will not be going back. Oh! And there was a funny smell that I couldn't get past. read more

Service was terrible; sat there for 10 minutes before anyone came by and asked of we wanted drinks even though she walked by multiple times. We ordered food and drinks at the same time, food got there and we still hadn't received our margaritas. The asada was SOOO salty I couldn't eat it, but no one came by to ask how everything was until it was time to clear plates, so I just didn't eat. The waitress asked if we needed anything else, we said no and then she never came back! We had to waive someone down for our bill. Def won't be back. read more

We tried just about every taco on the menu, our part was very disappointed in how dry and flavorless the meats were. The tortillas fell apart due to them being dry/old also. Service was just mediocre, won't be back, too many other good places to eat Mexican food around town. read more
