This was such a cute little brewery, a little outside of the downtown area. We wanted to end our our exploring with a beer from where it all started, with a Remmlers Royal Brew! This beer started back in the 1800's and it reminds me of an Oktoberfest type of beer with that hint of spice - we took a growler home of it! The inside is pretty small, with a few tables & mostly bar seats. It'd be great for a quick stop with your group! They also have a mix of outside beers and can make a few cocktails. Love this spot on Old West Main Street and we visit every time we're in Red Wing. The brewery is relatively new, but does a great job of drawing on local brewing history both in terms of ambiance and in the beers they make. The staff is super friendly and the food menu includes local ingredients like the Hanisch Bakery pizza crust. This visit we tried the October's Pizza-of-the-Month which was a Wisconsin Beer Cheese Pizza. Beer cheese sauce, cheddar cheese, summer sausage, onions, and white cheddar popcorn doesn't sound a winning recipe, but somehow it works. We also got a pepperoni, bell pepper, and olive pizza, and a couple great beers - the Work Boot Red and the Cokins Bavarian Fall Ale. Another great visit! read more

It's flaky with a hint of a herb that I cannot figure out. I'm usually not a crust guy, but I cannot help but devour this crust. The owner/brew master quickly greeted us once we walked in the door. The environment is family-friendly. We noticed a family with their baby on the other side of this small quaint restaurant. The overall experience was fantastic. After hiking up the bluff, we needed to feed ourselves and the kids. We ordered a large pizza and a couple of beers. The beers were excellent. Nothing like getting a beer from the source. The staff were quite nice as well, even though the place was super busy on a weekend afternoon. What was not good was the pizza. It was awful, truly terrible pizza. Too much cheese and not fully baked - the dough was undercooked in over half of it. It was shocking. The dough is my favorite, but it comes out undercooked in my opinion that's why I always reheat it at home on high heat for a couple minutes to make it crispy my Tip!! This brewery has a real hometown feel. We were welcomed the minute we walked through the door and seated ourselves. We ordered pizza and got drinks. My husband had beer and I had a mixed drink. Both were very good. We noticed any vacated table immediately got cleaned off and readied for the next customer. Great calm atmosphere and so nice to have a local spot in Red Wing like this brewery. Came in on a weekday after exploring the Barn Bluff, it was pretty quiet at the time. They have a pretty big pizza menu and had things like calzones if you're interested in a bite. The beer we both tried had a shot of something in it that I can't remember, something like black currant, mixed in. We'd arrived to Red Wing not an hour before, starting the move into our new house, and needed to celebrate our fresh start with some quality local pizza. We went with Red Wing Brewery based on online reviews and pictures. We were able to order right away and sat at a table right near the front of the restaurant. On that Thursday evening, much of their business was take-out, and we soon saw why--the food is freshly-made and that takes time. That was fine by us (though we know to call ahead next time!) as we enjoyed our drinks, chatted, and watched the street outside. All three of us fully enjoyed our beer selections, and the large hearty custom pizza was sure tasty! I can't speak for my friend's selections, but I ordered the Red Boot beer and it's one of the best reds I've had in a long time. A surprising thick head, and rich flavor! Both members of my party were also seriously impressed with their choices. I was happy to find they served pizza after a day of wandering a round town and ice skating! I was also excited to find fresh basil and fresh tomato listed on their toppings list. To me, beer always goes well with vinegar and bright flavors, so I slapped some green olives on there as well. Pickles were even listed as an option! The dough was hearty, but still firm enough to pick up. They added lots of sauce which is my preference! Oh my gosh, their pizza is good, so good and so worth ordering ahead, waiting, eating the entire thing, getting a size too big, all of the above!! We got half BBQ and half Hawaiian and we were so satisfied. The BBQ is not overbearing and the flavors of the pizza we done right. The crust doesn't get mushy and it's cooked perfectly with the right amount of sauce. The Hawaiian makes a great breakfast pizza is you have leftovers the next day as they do not skimp you on bacon! 4 stars for the size of the place and the beer. The pizza is so delicious! The wait to enter and be seated was long but well worth it. When you arrive, you are greeted by the staff outside, writing guests down in a notebook and giving wait times. The staff person who was present during my visit was friendly, professional, and informative. This had been my first time in the area, and the staff gave me a visitors guide for the area and explained directions to me. All staff are wearing masks, the greeter(host) is constantly doing a head count to stay in compliance. I saw staff cleaning a lot. The first thing I think of when I think Red Wing isn't boots it's brewery and the first thing I think of when I think Red Wing Brewery is PIZZA! I have visited many times and every visit ends with the same result, outstanding pies and just run of the mill beer. Red Wing offers two sizes, 8" personal and a 16" large. I do wish they had a medium option as the personal isn't really enough to share and the 16" is way too much but then again who doesn't loge cold leftovers. They offer all your traditional pizza toppings as well as some super fun specialty pizzas. For this last visit we went with the Seoul Food: K-mama sauce, mozzarella, chicken, shredded carrots and celery This pizza was super fun. The K-Mama sauce is made in Minneapolis and has a wonderful balance of garlic, red pepper and sesame oil with a touch of brown sugar. The chicken was perfectly cooked and cut into nice cube size pieces and the celery and carrots add a nice crunch. The crust at Red Wing is a hand toss, very doughy and soft on the inside and flaky on the outside. As for the beer. I tried 3, The brown ale, the Irish red ale and historic "Remmler's Royal Brew" which is also a red ale. All 3 were extremely similar in taste and texture and a little too malty and sweet. I realize they are supposed to be malty and caramelly but there was no balance and they literally all taste the same. I will most likely go for guest taps in the future. read more

Have to say how disappointed I am with the decline in quality at Red Wing Brewery! Have been an avid customer for years: the wait staff was friendly and created an inviting atmosphere. Food was great, quick, speedy service with top notch pizzas. Beers were phenomenal and they had a great listing of drinks. I considered this one of the great places in Red Wing. I came to Red Wing Brewery last night, and boy, what a difference. They no longer have wait staff, instead it's wait-in-line cafeteria style now: order at the front by a cohort of grumpy, masked employees that barely look you in the eye or acknowledge your presence. What happened to the warm and happy people that used to work here? You're given a table tag now for your meal. No more cutlery, no more dinnerware: its thin paper plates and napkins now. Utensils are so flimsy I actually broke my fork in two. Not an exaggeration. Two small pizzas took 40 minutes to be delivered to us, with a sprinkling of toppings on each and barely any sauce. The lady that brought them out to us dropped them on our table and walked away as she must have had better things to do than make her patrons feel welcome. She didn't say a word. Pizzas are delivered in to-go boxes regardless if you're eating in or taking out -- seems like a huge amount of waste now. Bus -your-own table when you're done eating. Couldn't believe it. My jaw dropped as I tried to understand how such a great establishment could have declined so much. They used to keep the vat room lit to allow us to get a sneak peek into the beers they had fermenting. They don't even do that anymore, looks like a cold, dark dungeon now. Hoping Red Wing Brewery improves, I just can't understand how such a quaint, cute, bright star in the Red Wing community could have fallen so far. read more

The pizza was good, the 8" serving was perfect for one person - I took the servers recommendation which was a 'BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger Pizza' which was better than the name suggested. Would definitely have to say this is my favorite MN pizza joint. I haven't had their specialty pizzas nor their beer, so unfortunately my review cannot be entirely holistic. But I think there's something to be said that whenever we have gone, they have been busy and usually have a wait. Their pizza dough is made with the spent grains from their brewing process and the crust is hard not to love. Their sauce is a favorite and they don't seem to skimp on the toppings. We get a sausage and onion pizza, and every bite is guaranteed sausage, which doesn't seem to be typical for many places. Service has always been friendly, restaurant is clean, and parking is easy. I love the area this is in. It's a cute area with stores and shops. Its not a huge space but they do have some tables and a nice bar. The big windows in the front light up the place. We sat at the bar and the bartender was very friendly. She was helpful to tell us about the special breakfast pizza of he month they have available. They also have guest taps and cans from other breweries in MN which I thought was very cool. You can purchase different Red Wing Brewery apparel and accessories as well. The beer is good but, not something I would rush back for anytime soon. I got the Barn Bluff Brown Ale. My boyfriend tried two others and we thought they all had similar notes which I think is from the malts they must use. We got the Seoul Food Pizza which I was really excited to try. It was loaded with cheesy, celery, carrots, and chicken. So CHEESY! I think because of the amount of topping that it didn't cook the dough all the way through. It was extremely doughy which isn't really for me but, thinner pieces were the best because they were cooked more. I would definitely go back and try other pizzas though. read more

We were in Red Wing as a stop on our Mississippi River steamboat cruise and decided to look up a local brewery (one of our favorite pastimes). Red Wing Brewery did not disappoint! Great atmosphere, good beer and fantastic pizza! They comped our pizza due to an ordering mishap (totally unnecessary!) , the brewery strips were amazingly flavorful and came with both cheese and marinara dipping sauces. I really like this spot when it isn't super crowded!! Friday night was my second visit here. The pizza is incredible although a little pricey-yum! The only beer I liked was the Jordan IPA. I tried the wheat and the Scottish as well. The wheat didn't have any banana flavors and so I wasn't in love. The Scottish has good flavor and I didn't like the aftertaste it left in my mouth. They were pretty busy when we arrived with patrons in there and to go orders. We sat at the bar and were able to order. The best part for me was the ROOT BEER!! Yummy!!! Breweries have popped up all over the place and its beyond time that Red Wing got one. This place was busy on Saturday and from what I've read it's like that most of the time apparently. They must be doing a lot right here. We had some time to kill while we were in town and even at about 4 pm there was a wait. I just happened to be standing by two stools that miraculously opened up right as I approached them so we got in quickly. Already had dinner plans so all we did here was drink. Pizza menu looks great and we'll have to utilize that on a future visit. They have a collection of their own brews and also taps from other places to augment that. Their own is a cross-section of the usual suspects (IPA, wheats, browns, etc.). I actually ended up choosing the Island City IPA out of Winona. I'm thinking they are on the cusp of outgrowing the space they are in (if they haven't already). It was extremely busy so the service was a little bit on the slow side.
