Cool record shop in downtown McKinney. They're attached to a gift shop with tons of Knick-knacks, books, incense and more for sale. The record shop has a bargain bin area as well as collections of CD's, cassette tapes and DVD's. There's so much to pore through... you're bound to find something interesting on any visit. read more

My daughter went there today to buy a few records for me and my wife and she was treated like trash. I wasn't surprised when she told because for the past couple of years I have had indifferent, unwelcoming service. I try not to buy anything new there because they are way overpriced and their selection is not the best, but do sometimes stop in to go thru their used LPs. Never greeted or made to feel like my business is appreciated. They have this pretentious, hipster attitude that record stores even in SoCal didn't have. I grew up with Tower Records, Licorice Pizza, Warehouse, Music +, Sam Goody, Amoeba, Lovells, Rasputin and other way better record stores so I am hard to impress but at least when I go to Josie's I'm greeted warmly and someone actually asks if they can be of assistance. I live near Red Zeppelin but purposely no longer give them business due to their non existent service primarily but i had not written a review because I don't really care how I am treated. I actually have lowered my expectations with places like these as they seem to hire gen z kids that don't want to be there, they just want to get their paychecks. But when you treat my daughter poorly that gets to me. My advice to owner would be to hire older people that actually want to work and engage with customers but I have dealt with him and he too is part of the problem. Maybe a course in customer service, perhaps? To those of you hardpressed to find a decent record store in DFW...there are some. Google it or just use Ebay or Discogs. If you're going to get crap service might as well buy online. read more

Red Zeppelin is a cool record store in downtown McKinney. Now located in a new space adjoining to The Groovy Coop, Red Zeppelin continues to offer an excellent selection of new and used vinyl, CDs, cassettes, some players, and more. One of my favorite things about Red Zeppelin is just browsing the store and listening to whatever record they happen to be playing when I stop in. I've literally bought albums simply because I liked what I heard when I walked in the store! The staff are always friendly and generally helpful. The only thing I don't like about the store is that sometimes it seems like they don't have what I'm looking for and also can't readily order it. I've been told various versions of it not being available to order, yet somehow I've later been able to buy it from Target or Barnes & Noble. Maybe the distributors don't have any because the major retailers bought huge quantities? I don't know. But it's frustrating to sometimes ask, "hey can you get this for me," and be basically told "no" when I can pull it up and order it online in 30 seconds. It's totally baffling why a store that sells soap, groceries, and bedsheets can get a record that a store specializing in music can't. I want to support local businesses but I can't when they can't provide access to product. On the other hand, they still have a lot of great stuff and often do have what I'm looking for in stock. Thru also offer access to more inventory online too. In terms of value, in a world where practically every song can be streamed an unlimited number of times on-demand with no ads for less than $15/month...vinyl is an expensive luxury item. With that said, their prices seem pretty on par with competitors. Overall whenever I want a record or just want to discover some great music, this is one of my first stops. This is an awesome record store. As a resident of McKinney I feel very lucky to have it downtown. No matter your music taste you can find it here. And if they don't have what you are looking for just ask and they will certainly help you out. I'm really into old punk rock stuff and they carry a great selection of that. Social Distortion, NOFX, Bad Religion, Bouncing Souls etc they have it all and more. Probably the best selection of punk rock in DFW that I know of. This is a true gem of a record store. Looking for something to do, we went to McKinney texas. McKinney in general was just....well if it wasn't in texas I could see myself living there. There's a healthy emphasis on art and a bunch of great stores like this record store. I wasn't expecting much but the selection was really good. This after going to "record store" in Dallas that was roughly 1/3 the size of my personal collection. It was well organized and while I didn't buy any vinyl (mostly vinyl, although there were some cds) because I didn't want to pack it, it was well worth a stop and I picked up a book for my husband. read more
