I'm a fan! I went here twice. The first time, I got the "Adulting is hard" sandwich, which was basically a fantastic grilled cheese. I also ordered a white tea - which was tasty, and a blueberry muffin, which they would not grill for me for some reason but was super tasty anyways. The tables were spaced out nicely and offered some privacy to chat, and I felt no pressure to rush or not enjoy my experience. I felt like breakfast was pretty expensive overall. The second time, I ordered a farmer's breakfast, which was what you'd expect, but a little nicer. The sausage wasn't great, but everything else was tasty and not greasy at all, which I appreciated. Service was fast and distractedly friendly, and there was some very tasteful live music playing in the background, which wasn't loud and really added to the experience. I also got a hot chocolate before leaving, but it wasn't very good, and I ended up not drinking it - so meh there. Overall, this is a pretty nice spot -- not a 5/5 for me, but I was happy with it, especially the space and feeling that I could take my time and enjoy everything, and that the meals were healthy, tasty, and filling. Love this cafe. My husband and I went in for breakfast. Cafe is clean and welcoming. I ordered a mocha latte and my husband ordered a espresso horchata. Both were great. We ordered the farm fresh plate and nonavocado toast! The sausage on the farm fresh plate is full of flavor. They had dairy free butter for my toast. The nonavocado toast is very tasty. It's open faced with pea guac., red onions, cilantro, and spring greens drizzled with charred scallion vinaigrette with an egg on top. I hate that I didn't get pics of both dishes. My husband left for a meeting and I ended up staying until after lunch. The cafe staff is very friendly and didn't mind that I sat and worked on my computer the whole morning. I also had a green tea latte, lavender lemonade kombucha, and the dandylion. This is a vegetarian chili topped with tortilla chips, fresh tomatoes and scallions on top of a bed of greens and quinoa served with shaved cheese an a green goddess dressing. So delicious!!! I came in here today for the third time, intending to meet a new acquaintance for lunch. Both previous times I bought food. I was here two weeks ago and talked to the woman at the counter for quite a while. I'm thinking of starting an organization in Homewood and trying to build relationships w the community. I talked to her for a while, asking her many questions about Homewood. She's never been very friendly, which I've hoped wasn't because she doesn't like Black people (I'm Black) but I've given her the benefit of the doubt and continued to buy things and be very kind. Today I came in, said hi, then went to the bathroom. I'd been driving for an hour and arrived before my new friend, so wanted to do that quickly first. When I got out of the bathroom, I saw the person I was meeting through the widow. I hadn't yet met her and this was a professional meeting, so I wanted to get out to greet her. On my way, the woman behind the counter SNAPPED at me " Are you planning on ordering anything or you just came in here to use the bathroom?!?" I was shocked and also meeting someone for the first time so I didn't quite know what to say/do. I responded, "I'm meeting my friend for lunch." Then said, "I was planning on ordering, but after the way you just talked to me, I'm reconsidering." My friend and I went to Riviera Tacos, the lovely and delicious Mexican restaurant down the road. This woman at Redbird was so incredibly rude to me. I had planned to partner w them and bring them in a ton of business, trying to support the local coffee shop. I love coffee shops and try to support local always! I was going to talk to them about hosting events and planned to order coffee and treats for my organization, just to support the local economy. However, I will no longer be doing that or going there ever. Their food is completely overpriced and not at all good. I paid $13 for teeny bland tacos w a side of chips the last time ad tipped this woman 20 percent. They have a BLM sign in their window, but clearly this woman does not want to work w Black people. Or perhaps she only wants to work w Black people who show their money before entering. I'm so disappointed and so disheartened. I really wanted to like this place. No one should be talked to the way this woman spoke to me. I thought she might remember me from two weeks ago, given we talked for so long, but she just saw me as a Black person who she did not want in her restaurant or just someone whom she found annoying for using their bathroom before ordering. I get being a teeny bit annoyed, but her tone, assumptions, and the way she spoke to me are completely unacceptable. read more

I've been hanging out in Homewood recently, and I'm so glad I discovered Redbird. I love the farm to table concept, and the food at these types of establishments is usually excellent. Redbird is no exception. The food quality is top-notch. I've been there for both breakfast and lunch. I'm now addicted to the Korean BBQ tacos. Excellent. Sometimes Korean BBQ can be ridiculously salty, but that's not the case here. Really good flavor and texture. I also had breakfast a couple times. I had something like the farmhouse plate... I can't remember the exact name. Also very good. The coffee is very good. I bought a couple bags of beans from various roasters after trying the coffee. Overall, this is a great place and is the type of business that should be supported over the corporate chains that pollute the nation. read more

I was blown away by Redbird Cafe's brunch. It is difficult to find high-quality gluten-free and Vegan options in the Homewood-Flossmoor area. (Most local restaurants offer one or two options, if any, and they typically don't taste very good.) However, Redbird Cafe offers many options which exceeded all my expectations. They serve great specialty coffee drinks and amazing, flavorful food. I am so glad they chose to open in Homewood! I highly recommend this restaurant! read more

Stopped in at the Redbird Cafe for lunch on our way to Indiana. We were happy to see that Homewood has continued to get new and interesting places to eat since this used to be our hometown. The Redbird did not disappoint. The food was all made fresh with farm to table ingredients. We started with a cup of tomato soup which was slightly spicy but very good. I had the blt and it was served on fresh, homemade bread. The coffee was the best I've had in some time and the herbal infused ice tea was also great. We will definitely come back when we come through Homewood next time read more

Like others, I will start by saying I want RedBird to succeed. Homewood has some really great restaurants and this fills a nice spot. Our two salads were quite good; 4 and we liked the decor. Our gripe was with the ices tea. It was delicious! However, the glass was not large and packed with ice. It was $4 and not a single refill. Of course that was not stated on the menu, nor did the server mention it when we asked for a refill. So $16 for about 24 oz of tea seems excessive to me and these days a refill of iced tea is the norm so a mention would have been appreciated. read more

My first time at this quaint and welcome addition to Homewood's downtown area. A friend mentioned the Redbird Cafe and since I was out and hungry I thought I'd try it. I have a lot of food issues due to intolerance to some foods so am always willing to try a new place, but prepared to be disappointed. Well, no disappointment here. As I explained my issues my waitress was fully engaged and understanding. When I asked if they carried a gluten free bread she said that they did, but decided to check that they had it on hand. They did, so I ordered a BLT (without the T.) It was very nice and the bread, unlike most GF breads, was actually like eating bread! The waitress told me about a special dinner held weekly by some doctors who also host a discussion. (sounds interesting). I also saw on their board that they have adult story-telling and live music. I am so glad to see a place like this in downtown Homewood and suggest you try it for the food, the teas, the coffee or just getting together with like-minded people. I know I will be back soon. Met and spoke with the owner and she is very knowledgeable about healthy eating which makes this the perfect place for people with food issues as well as those who just want to eat healthier farm to table foods instead of pre-made, over-processed empty calories. I understand this is a farm to table place, but when it is 7:25 a.m. on a weekday and you have to wait over 25 minutes for breakfast, that is too much. People have to get to work. There was only 1 other person in the place, so I still do not understand how making eggs and bacon should take that long. Do they cook one order at a time? On my first visit to Redbird, I thought, "Gee, here I can imagine that I'm not in the south 'burbs after all", but with places like Redbird, south side life just got better again. Creative menu items are fresh and tasty. The cornbread waffles and the breakfast bowls are great and, while I am generally averse to spending $3 on a cup of coffee, Redbird has the BEST CUP OF COFFEE EVER and is totally worth it. This local, farm-to-table sourced cafe is a wonderful addition to the Homewood area! The ambiance is cozy, welcoming and relaxing. The food is incredible! Favorites were the jalapeño cornbread waffles and their guacamole made fresh from peas. It was so unique and delicious! We also enjoyed their coffee and tea, all locally sourced. I've had breakfast and an early lunch at the Red Bird in Homewood. Both experiences were outstanding. Big breakfast with the best tasting bacon ever, great fried potatoes and a selection of whole grain breads. For lunch I've had the "grown up grilled cheese" on naturally leavened bread and thick gooey cheese. Outstanding. This place is billed as farm to table and it seems to have nailed it. Plenty of veggie selections as well. Plates are beautifully presented. Servers are friendly. It's bright and airy with large windows looking out onto downtown homewood. A breath of fresh air in normally stifling restaurant atmosphere of the south suburbs. Highly recommended. read more

As others have said, this restaurant is not ready to be open. There is something immediately off-putting about receiving a menu, where most of the items are covered with black tape because "we are having trouble with our suppliers." We came at 1 PM and were not served until 1:30. I had a goat cheese and fig spread sandwich ($8). The restaurant was busy, but that should not take 30 minutes. Vegie soup was taste-free (had to ask for salt&pepper because they are missing from all tables). Iced tea is $4 with no refills? I don't think so (especially when the area pancake houses all generous with refills). I understand this is "slow food." But most people have to get back to work in a reasonable amount of time (several parties left while we were waiting). I really want this place to be a success (goodness knows we need more dining options), but Redbird better get someone on board who knows not just about cooking, but running a restaurant ASAP. You don't get a second chance to make a first impression. read more

On our first visit we were ignored for quite some time even though the staff had to move out of the way so we could get by. A request for a pour over coffee took at least 15 min. to be delivered but it was great. The Grilled cheese sandwich I ordered was very tasty with Halvarti, Goat cheese, Basil, Figs and Honey on a nice toasted bread.. My wife was was not too happy with her order of the Pulled pork tacos. The pork was on the dry side and a little chewy. She gave one to me to taste and mine had a bone fragment the size of a marble in it. As soon as we were served the pulled pork tacos were erased off of the menu board so what we were served was probably the bottom of the pot. Half of the items on the menu are redacted with a Sharpie so the choices are few. There were a few families with children in there but I did not see any thing on the menu that my grandchildren would eat. I would not go there unless you have over an hour to spend. read more

I was willing to give this restaurant a try and went this past weekend with my mother and sister. It is a small restaurant and staff was not very friendly. We were told to find a seat, which we did. We received a menu and first ordered beverages. My sister ordered coffee and I ordered orange juice. The waitress stated they did not have orange juice and suggested grape juice or apple juice. I ordered grape juice. She Left to fulfill our orders. We also were not told that the weekends only offer brunch. (We arrived at 10:30 a.m.) Well she brought back my sister's coffee (lukewarm) and told me they did not have grape juice now, only apple juice. I decided to just drink water and asked for hot water for my own tea bag, which they did provide. After reviewing the menu, I ordered the breakfast grilled cheese sandwich (filled with cheddar cheese, eggs, tomato jam, kale). She then told me they did not have tomato jam and I could order fig jam instead. I did not wish fig jam and I asked her to come back and I needed to review the items they had left. My sister at this point also said the coffee was lukewarm (cream was clumping at the top) and we decided to leave. When we told the waitress we were leaving because they seemed to be limited in their items, WE STILL HAD TO PAY $3.37 for the Coffee, CAN YOU BELIEVE IT? We would have been willing to come back at another time, if we had received a sincere apology but I cannot believe they had us pay for coffee we did not drink. Well we went to the newly refurbished GRADY's GRILL instead. (I would recommend that restaurant). read more

I'm really excited Homewood has another brunch/coffee place option and I love what they did with the place; the style inside and cute coffee bar up at the window, in general the place is very modern and appealing. I came here Mother's Day morning which was probably not the best idea, but my group of 3 (no mothers) were seated at the bar right away. We ordered coffees (cappuccino was great) and two orders of biscuits and gravy and the jalapeño waffles. Our food came out within 15 minutes. And everything was cold. The waffles were dry, and needed a ton of syrup to eat them. The biscuits and gravy were oddly ice cold. We thought this was how it was served here, like some new food trend. I'm guessing because they knew it was going to be a busy day and they had a limited menu, they made everything the day before. We asked about the food temperature when we went to pay, "are the biscuits and gravy meant to be cold?" The lady told us no, they are a hot item. Okay well they tasted like they were pulled from the fridge. She replied, "oh well next time tell us!" Well, we are now. She just said "nothing we can do about it now, can we?" I get it. Not asking for another order, but comp a coffee or say come back again please? The response was odd, making it our fault. Either way, I would like to try it again although my fiancé said never again. I would love it if this place stayed open late for just the coffees. Only days we can make it here are Sundays anyways. read more

I've yet to try any of the food yet hence the fact I didn't give them a 5 star rating. I'm also not big on coffee and one of the Batista I believe her name was Reilly she really took her time to go over everything with me to find something I would like. The first time she recommended a tea (can't remember the exact name but it had the word thistle in it) it honestly knocked out my sore throat by the end of the cup. The next time I ran in to try the pop Reilly had suggested at my first visit. It was amazing it was grape flavored and truly tasted as if it came off the wine that day. I was disappointed when I went back to find out they no longer served it but I tried the Strawberry Orange. Pure heaven in your mouth, not too sweet just the right balance between the two flavors. I have to say I'm addicted. I hope to soon be able to sit down for lunch/breakfast. But the staff is extremely friendly everyone is very professional and I highly recommend anyone to try. read more

We waited to visit so they could get acclimated. Cute space. Staff was friendly. We had breakfast. I had the eggs, bacon and potatoes. I ordered my eggs over easy. One egg was over easy the other over hard. Potatoes were good. Ordered my grandson the kids scrambled eggs but our server just brought us eggs not the kids meal. Asked if they have ketchup they do not. They do have a tomato jam which was very good. My adult children ordered the breakfast grilled cheese they were ok but the sandwiches were two different sizes and very hard.The drinks are pricey. We love farm to table but we also love food cooked well. Red Bird is off the mark a bit. Not sure if we will be back any time soon. read more
