Came in for a to-go pretzel to eat in line for my concert. I appreciated that the waitress was friendly and helped me quickly. She made me "cherry cokes" by using grenadine - she didn't have to do that but it was so appreciated since I was really craving one! The pretzel was warm and perfect to hold me over for the concert. Tip was included in the bill, which is good to be aware of. Overall a great experience!

HUGE Biergarten right next to Prudential center, perfect to go to before games and events. Pro tip: if you avoid coming here during days that have events at Prudential since the happy hour deals are voided. Super roomy and plenty of beer selections to choose from. Parking gets tricky in this area of Newark, but there's plenty of paid parking lots.

So I'm staying in Newark for a few days on business. Absolutely shocked at what a nasty area it turned into. I can definitely handle myself, but didn't feel very safe leaving the hotel. But hunger got the best of me so I ventured out. Redd's is a cool place, at the time only a couple people sitting at the bar, the bartenders were really cool, but I took food to go after having a beer. And into my surprise, the food was excellent ! Pretzel was fantastic as well as the Wienerschnitzel. I eat German food often and have been to Germany many times, and this food ranks up there with the best. Hope I never have to go back to Newark, but if I do, I would again risk my life to go to Redds.

    Cheers!

Huge place with different areas wherever you want. Came here for a college alumni & it was super packed for about an hour but great place overall & the staff is friendly. I didn't try any food but definitely will next time!

    German Bratwurst Platter

I was attending the Tony Robbins conference next door and was tired of the concessions at the arena, so we stepped out and came over here as it was close and convenient. We were greeted at the door and picked a table to sit. I went to the bar and ordered a beer and then sat down and perused the menu. My Hefeweizen beer was cold and fresh, just like in Germany. So far, so good. My friend and I decided we wanted a pretzel and the "German Wurst Platter" but we only wanted the traditional Bratwurst and the Spicy Cheddar Brats, which they happily agreed to. Service was quick, they gave you a beeper, and a few minutes later, our pretzel was ready- it was hot and soft and chewy and delicious, as was the beer-cheese sauce served with it. A few minutes later, the beeper went off again, and there was our platter, we were both impressed by how large it was! I have spent a lot of time in Germany and I must say, this food was comparable- the brats were outstanding. Service was friendly and the vibe was great. I had another beer and then we headed back to the conference, bellies full and a bit more relaxed. I would love to come here during a hockey game, I am sure it would be lots of fun!!

    Inside, packed!

My wife and I stopped in before a Devils playoff game. This place was rocking! Extremely crowded! But that didn't interfere with the super food and terrific beverages we enjoyed before the game. I thought their chicken Caesar salad was absolutely delicious and my wife truly enjoyed her potato pancakes. Hopefully we'll be able to go back when it's not so manic! I'm sure it will still be spot on!

    Potato pancakes and Vegan Sausage

Redds is a large biergarten right next to the Prudential Center in Newark. They have large harvest tables where you sit wherever. Their process is good - you order at a counter, get your beer, get a buzzer and pick up your food from a pick up window. The food was most good and there's a vegetarian menu. I tried the following: - Bavarian pretzel - one of the better pretzels that I've had this was fantastic - Potato Pancakes - nicely made hashbrowns and they were good - Vegan Sausage - Boo. I've had vegan sausage before that was grilled perfectly but this one was soft and blah - if they grilled it like a regular sausage they'd have a better outcome. The fries were good though - Onion Ring - huge but super greasy - I would not get them again The biggest problem with Redds is the sound - it is LAF! There is no sound proofing so the decibel levels are crazy. I couldn't hear the person across from me without screaming. They're also playing music which is fine you can't hear it anyway.

I've been here a numerous times, and probably forgot my debit card once or twice. They have an AMAZING beer selection, especially for IPA fans who barely find anything good. The food is great too, and I'd wholeheartedly recommend the mac and cheese bites because they are the best thing ever, along with the French onion soup. Next I would recommend cheddar Bratwurst platter, comes with a lot of fries, and the sausage is always on point. The only thing I wouldn't recommend is getting into a fight with another fan because if you are looking for help you, they will not. They had no functioning cameras, they knew the other person was being a problem, and just threw their hands on the situation. Very nonchalant and annoying. We still come here like the dedicated fans we are, and it's right across the stadium from the Prudential Center.

Redd's is always such a fun lively place to go to! The BEST spot to gather w friends before a Devils game/event at Prudential. Wide variety of drink & food options. The sampler is always my groups favorite!

    Devil's Brew
    Matthew W.

Dropped in here to get a drink before a concert. The Devil's Brew is quite good. Goes down smooth and the aftertaste is quite pleasant. The fries are quite crispy and thick. There's obviously a lot of German food here, mostly wurst (sausage). Everything does seem quite overpriced here, but I expected as much being so close to the prudential center. Other than that, there's plenty of table, bench, and bar seating, and TVs for watching sports games. Order at the bar and pickup non-drink items at the side area. Bathrooms are surprisingly quite clean.

So naturally, had to check it out again this time and try it again. I don't know what it is, but well seasoned meat with their crispy fries just works. The original German doner kebab with the mixed beef and chicken was incredible. It was juicy, perfectly seasoned meat with that signature vertical spit char, loaded into their soft, flavorful handmade waffle-style bread. Every bite was a hit. Also ordered the chicken doner box with fries. The fries were very crispy and seasoned well and the chicken was just as I remembered it. A flavor bonanza. Rich, aromatic, and very delicious What was really the highlight was the sauces though. The garlic sauce was creamy and addictive, and the spicy one had just the right kick without overpowering everything. Portions are solid for the price. Everything felt fresh and hot, and the staff was super friendly and quick even during a busy mall rush. If you're at the American Dream or craving quality halal doner, this is the move. Way better than your average kebab spot. This is premium. Will definitely be back for the crispy doner rolls and maybe the Doner Burger next time.

And boy, were we in for a pleasant surprise, as we truly enjoyed ourselves. No one does beer hall like a German place. This is just facts. We had the Berliner Weisse, which comes in a .5L or 1L boot (does German beer count if it's not in a boot?). This was a delicious raspberry syrupy undertone wheat beer, and definitely a must have for next time. Though there were like a dozen other beers I need to have. They also have a pretty extensive wine selection, if that's your thing. We were there for a brunch. When we arrived, before 1pm, it wasn't busy at all. By the time we left, it was pretty full. The bar had seats though. Anyhoo, I tried their "energizer" which were eggs any style (poached for me), creamed spinach and mashed potatoes. Never had a breakfast like this one! It was almost like a deconstructed eggs Florentine. YUM. My husband had the Heidelberger which was a German style hamburger with frizzled onions and mashed potatoes. He let me try some, it was pretty fantastic so I may need to try it sometime myself. Also do not miss their ginormous Bavarian pretzel. It was quite possibly the best I've had (and I've had many!). The service was outstanding, and the vibe was ... I dunno a step above what you saw in Fast Times where they go to the German restaurant. My only regret is that I didn't get the apfelstrudel. After visiting the German Consulate General, we were looking to celebrate new dual citizenship with authentic German cuisine. We came for midday lunch but ordered off the full menu rather than the lunch/brunch menu. My wife ordered the duck, I ordered the wienerschnitzel. The duck made my wife throw up two hours after ingesting it. My (albeit) medium-well schnitzel ordered came extra well-done, crispy both on the inside and out. The restaurant was dark and freezing. Workmen were bringing in wood materials from the back and the door was left open for the duration of the meal to accommodate the establishment and its workmen over the dining comfort of its patrons. We asked about the unendurable arctic environment and the genial young man seating us, serving us and also tripling as barman, returned to say there was nothing he could do. Well, there is something we will do. Never ever come back.

Unlike my two other favorite Bavarian restaurants, Schnitzel Haus and Zum Stammtisch, this one is fairly expensive, with items that scorn the cuisine rather than embrace it. Sure, the Jaeger Schnitzel I ate is delicious, and the portion sizes for everything I order is plentiful, but everything else about this restaurant misses the mark. First, the music. The music feels so out of place. Too Gramercy if you ask me. For this kind of restaurant I figure you have to go all in or none at all. This is not an Italian restaurant. Everything about the decor and interior layout is a misrepresentation of how this restaurant should be. After awhile it got annoying (the lighting gave me a headache), and left me a little frustrated when the food came out. Second, is the food intended to be shared or not? I feel like no for the entrees, but yes for the appetizers. It all felt disjointed. I also felt jilted by the fact the potato pancakes only came with either applesauce OR sour cream. I should not have to choose. Give. Me. Both. Maybe if I had both I would have been able to eat more than just one. You are also given free bread upon arrival, but the bread tastes stale and dry. It offers nothing to the experience. Okay, now about the rest of the food (in more detail). The German Apple crepe is okay, but perhaps years of eating German Apple pancakes at The Original Pancake House changed how I feel about them. This tasted skimpy and dry, feeling a bit European to a fault. The crepe was fine, but the apple filling needs more sweetness to really make it feel like a treat. The schnitzel is the true star. I could hear the cooks hammering out the veal to flatten out the meat. That is how you do it. It tasted fresh and the mushroom sauce is the true hero of this entree. It also comes with spaetzle (German pasta) and green beans, both of which are cooked perfectly and work well to complement the veal. As someone who ate many Schnitzel in Switzerland (and has plans to visit Germany later this year), this works. They also offer Wurst (but I hope only the best kind), but I need a break from sausage. Getting the schnitzel is the preferred weapon of choice. Unfortunately the high prices and disjointed ambiance will not have me back here.

There was also a platter with a bbq theme with smaller pretzels, pulled pork, sausage, kraut, cabbage, german potato salad, smoked wings/chicken, ribs, another type of meat, fries, and sauces/cheese dip. A member of the staff said the front room wasn't child friendly and a couple had to sit in the big noisy room in the back with their kid while the majority of the party was up front. Not really sure why it mattered because both rooms have bars serving alcohol, and later on more and more kids were staying up front and no one told them to move. The same staff member went around taking used plates, cups and attempted to remove the food platters when they were still actively being picked over (a pet peeve of mine). He did try to accommodate us in the back by offering a long table (but it wasn't enough for the whole group) so it became the kids table.
