While I don't have deep wrinkles, I've noticed it really has helped to brighten my face and makes me look more awake and less tired. For my chin, we added some filler to elongate my face and make my face less round. I feel like it's a subtle change, but I've gotten so many compliments on how it just makes my face look more dainty. (Most people think I just lost weight in my face, but when I tell them I got chin filler, that's when they say how good it looks.) For laser hair removal, I was a bit apprehensive to get it since I have dark hairs and a lighter skin tone. I was afraid that I may get dark marks from the laser machine, as I had once experienced before. However, they listened to my concerns and reassured me that they would go on a low setting to prevent that. I didn't get any dark tracks afterwards, and I now only trust them to do the laser on my face. As far as professionalism goes, their staff is great at that. Dr. Jeng, Adrienne, and Sherry were great at listening to what I wanted at my initial consult and made me feel comfortable by addressing my concerns. For example, with the chin filler, I wasn't really sure how it would look and was a little curious if if would fit my face. They recommended to inject only half of my syringe first to see if I would be happy with the outcome. 2 weeks later, I came back to inject the rest and was happy they gave me that option. Some other places may not give you that option, so I can tell they really want their clients to have a positive experience.

Alright, first review ever on Yelp and I'm going with hair removal. Good for me. So here's the deal, if you do your diligence on hair removal before undertaking a procedure (and you surely should) you will quickly learn that the 4 cornerstones of getting good laser treatment are: 1. quality of the practitioner 2. quality of the machine 3. settings used 4. affordability Before I started treatments on my chest, stomach (and a little bit shoulders/flanks) last year, I got educated at www.hairtell.com. I quickly learned that the best and most powerful state of the art laser on the market is the Candela Gentlelase. I also learned that you want to be sure to find a practitioner who will use the as high as settings on the machine as possible without causing burning. This requires practitioner knowledge/judgment re skin type and hair coarseness/darkness (in general the lighter the skin and the darker the hair, the higher the settings that can be used). [note that Gentlelase manual suggests lower settings than what are actually required for optimal laser effectiveness. I assume that is because they would get insta-sued if they recommended settings that caused anyone burning at all]. My skin is pretty light and my unfortunate chest/stomach hair WAS fairly dark, so I was pretty convinced that I would be an ideal candidate for high settings. I went on a mini-mission to track down LA practitioners that have the Gentlelase machine, know what they're doing (i.e. are willing to use high settings) and offer their services for a price I can handle. A lucky search on craigslist turned up Redefining Youth. Redefining Youth operated by Janet A. has the Gentlelase, Janet knows what she is doing and offered per treatment prices that were more affordable than almost any of the bundled (i.e. multi-session) packages I saw offered in LA Weekly or anywhere else online for that matter. Cool! I've had 5 sessions with Janet over the last year now and am borderline astonished at the quality of the results. Because you need 6 to 8+ sessions to get maximum hair reduction (because of the various cycles of hair growth, each one of which needs to face the laser, sometimes multiple times), I still need more treatment, but after five treatments, the character of the hair is completely different. What was thick and gross, is 70-90% reduced and what remains is now thin and actually totally acceptable. As to settings, Janet errs on the side of conservative and lower pain. However, she is also willing to move up in settings when appropriate (and if the patient is pushy enough). The first treatment was 18mm/12J, which by my research is not optimal. Through the next five treatments we ramped up progressively until we've now reached 18mm/18J and 18mm/20J (in a few spots). These are max settings. I have never burned, but make no mistake, in some spots, treatment hurts a fair amount at those top settings (ibuprofen+aloe+ hydrocortisone post treatment). A note on pain: I waxed a few times in high school back in the day, and the pain was comparable. The worst waxing pain definitely hurts more than the worst laser though. Ironically, waxing used to hurt most in the fleshy parts, and hurt less in the bony parts. Exactly the opposite with the laser. Chest hurts the most, stomach hurts a little. Back and shoulders feel like a rubber band flick. However, at least in my case, the after effects of waxing (sensitivity, redness) lasted days and days, whereas with laser my skin is basically fully recovered after 2.5 days. On lower settings, it is much lass painful, but you are NOT getting the zap for your buck. Anyways, I guess I'm tough and my skin can take it. For each treatment after a day or two, I'm back to exercising, swimming etc. (however, note that with laser, some hair falls out immediately, but most of it actually "sheds" so post treatment the hair looks like it is growing back and you can have "pepper spots", but in fact the hair is not attached and falls out completely after a week or three -- then you are hair free for a few months until the next cycle of hair starts to grow in). A final observation: Apparently some places do test patches to gauge settings before starting treatment. Janet does not. Not sure which way that cuts. But frankly, I was happy to just jump in the chair and get started without having to wait a week to "see" if I burned. I say this, even though the settings I had may have been too low on the first session. As we ramped up, we used burning sensation to judge whether or not we were going to high. So there it is. Redefining Youth is a great kept secret, but shouldn't be. Janet is great, has the best machine on the market and offers service at very reasonable prices. I strongly suggest you do your own additional research so that you get your expectations set, but you can also trust me that if you are going to do laser, you'd be foolish not to consider Redefining Youth. read more

I highly recommend this laser clinic to those seeking professional, honest, inviting service. The owner, Janet, is a warm and friendly woman who is very accommodating to her clients' schedules. I should start by admitting that I am a male who used to have a back that looked like a shag carpet. This is not a joke, and it was actually embarrassing to a degree. Sorry if that's gross for some people, but fortunately, now I have smooth, socially acceptable back after having a few treatments from this great laser clinic. Yes I did say a few sessions because my hair was quite thick as well. The hair became thinner with each treatment until the treated areas were visibly smooth. The treatment was surprisingly fast, and I thought " wait a minute, how is this going to work if you are going this quickly?" Apparently, the machine Janet uses lets her work very quickly while maintaining high quality treatment. Good for me since I don't have hours at a time to spend getting my back hair removed. In terms of pain, it actually wasn't bad. Janet even offered to change the intensity of the laser to decrease the ouch factor, but I told her to crank it up because it wasn't painful to begin with. Janet treats her clients very well and caters to their needs as a professional should. Honestly, it's hard to find business owners now who provide great quality services and care for their clients so that they come back. Thinking of going back to get my chest done. read more

I hesitated going to another laser center. I had tried this place in Hollywood that was recommended. Wasn't too impressed. I went to Redefining Youth and found my experience was truly a better one when compared to the place in Hollywood. Janet is genuinely kind (something difficult to find in this industry). I went with my girlfriend (quite common for men who still think laser hair removal is for women). My girlfriend had reddish hair and Janet was honest and didn't think she was a good candidate for laser. This was the first sign where my comfort and happiness in Redefining Youth began. I have been there for several upper back and lower back sessions. Very pleased with customer service and prices. Some of our friends tell us about their not-so-great experiences especially when following those online deals at other med-spas. My personal experience, ...the prices and services at Redefining Youth rock!! If you are hesitant, like me...and you want to try a good place, may I suggest Redefining Youth. This is the best place in LA for laser hair removal and other cosmetic procedures. I had laser hair removal and it didn't even hurt. The laser that Janet uses has amazing results !!!! It cools your skin right before the laser fires, so it doesn't hurt. I've been going on a regular basis - every 6-8 weeks and the results are amazing.. Janet has great bedside manner. Therefore I want to share my experience, so you won't make the mistakes I did. Smooth Skin Laser clinic is awesome! Their staff is knowledgeable, courteous, and skillful. All the other offices are just trying to sell you their services - the more the merrier! I have been burned and lied to before, but not in Smooth Skin ! Antonio is unbelievably diligent and honest. I've spent enough time in that office for different treatments to see that he never recommends the treatment that won't help you. I've never seen an integrity like his in any other place! Now I go only there, because I trust him and his nurses. The place in unbelievably clean, he has the latest equipment and knows how to use it, his nurses are well trained. The prices are so moderate that you get surprised to have the wonderful service for it! I wish I would know about this office before I got all the negative experience in the others...
