The coleslaw was not very good and the side salad was basic. The lobster roll was okay. Bread was tough and kind of overtook the dish. My son ordered the brick chicken. Do not recommend. The chicken was bland, and the dish advertises truffle potatoes. He got maybe three small slices of fingerling potatoes at the bottom of the dish. Not worth it for a nearly $40 plate. My husband ordered the crab and avocado salad. The crab meat was minimal. The best thing at the table was the garlic bread or my youngest son's buttered noodles with Parmesan. Our server was kind and attentive, at least. And to be fair, we didn't voice our issues with the manager. For the quality of food compared to the price, we would not recommend. I get that it's midtown. I know it's expensive. But you'd find a better meal in one of the many cafes or hole-in-the-wall joints that crowd the corners. read more

I found myself at Redeye Grill the other night for an educational dinner. I haven't been to one of these in a while, so I was looking forward to a little learning while trying somewhere new. What augmented my excitement was that I had never been to Redeye before, so I was not only gaining some knowledge but also exploring a restaurant that was new to me. The menu looked good, so I was looking forward to checking out their offerings. Redeye sits on the ground floor of an office building in Midtown West. The exterior is striking with its floor-to-ceiling windows, and that continues inside with it's almost eclectic interior. The aesthetics are bold, with contrasting colors that pop without being tacky. The restaurant is called the "home of the dancing shrimp", but don't expect any large crustaceans busting a move - this is actually one of their apps (I'm taking a mental note to try it next time). As with other educational dinners I have been to, the menu was prix fixe - apps were chosen for us, and we chose our entrée and dessert. We were started with chips and guac, corn salad, and a selection of sushi. I'm not a fan of corn so I didn't partake, but the others were quite good. The chips were thick, restaurant style and the guac was nice and chunky. The sushi selection was generous - we were given four rolls that were all super fresh. We then moved onto Caesar salad - this was dressed nicely and came with these flavorful croutons which were large and crispy but also soft enough to bite through (ie, they didn't go flying across the table after sticking a fork in them). We were also served warm garlic bread during this time which was delicious mmm. For my main, I chose the filet mignon; the beef was cooked well with good flavor, and it came with fries which were better than I expected. We were also served sides of potatoes and asparagus. Both of these were good, especially the asparagus which was a nice reprieve from the carbs and protein. We had our choice of dessert between chocolate cake and cheesecake; I chose the latter, which was just okay. There was a hard layer on top of the cake which was kind of odd, and overall it wasn't the best NY-style cheesecake I've had. Service was great, everyone was super attentive and friendly. Overall, I was really impressed with Rideye Grill - I usually don't get the best of a restaurant when I attend educational dinners, but what I got here was good and prompted me to return for another visit. In a sea of dime-a-dozen restaurants in Midtown, this is one of the more memorable ones. read more

First Impression- this is a pretty big restaurant... the lighting was dim and cozy, the servers were all busy buzzing back and forth. Lots of talk and the clink of utensils being used. I came for a drug rep dinner and we were placed in a private room in the back. It was well is insulated and the noise of the main dining room didn't interrupt our dinner and presentation. The Noms - Appetizers:::: Little Gem Caesar salad - I love a good Caesar, but this one had too much dressing. The garlic bread they served it with was super buttery and garlicky. It was perfect. I had a second helping. The calamari - pretty good and same as anywhere else you get them. I forgot to take a picture but that's because they were the first to go and I had to make sure that I got a sample. I wish the serving was a bit bigger. Charred asparagus - this one was good as far as flavor went, but the asparagus spears were a little limp and I like my asparagus spears to be crisp. Brussels sprouts - they're not always my first choice of apps to order as these are always dependent on how they were made.. but I actually really enjoyed these the Thai peanut sauce really made them stand out.. I would get these again before the asparagus. Entrees::: Seafood Fruttii di Mare - this is the entrée I selected, and I was highly disappointed... the pasta was al dente, but the sauce was bland. Nothing to write home about. And I expected the seafood (lobster, shrimp, etc) to be served alone and not in a pasta, which they didn't specify on the menu... or I wouldn't have ordered it. Prime Filet Mignon- I had some of my friend's order. The fillet was delicious, prepared, medium, rare, and served with a side of fries. I'd probably get this if I ever came back. Dessert, banana cream pie - it was really good and the chocolate shavings on top of the whipped cream took it up a notch. I haven't had banana cream pie in a really long time and I really enjoyed this. Chocolate chip cookies and chocolate dipped strawberries - this last bit was an extra after dinner snack (plus coffee, but I didn't want any) I managed to squeeze in a couple of strawberries (they tasted homemade, yum!) and mini cookies, they were the perfect size. In Conclusion: this wasn't the best steakhouse that I've ever been to, but it was a drug rep and it was free so I enjoyed my dinner here. I wish they would've specified on the menu that the dish I ordered was a pasta dish because I didn't want pasta. I might consider coming back, but with so many other steakhouses. I visited Redeye Grill with friends of mine from France. I knew the area but didn't want to impose my suggestions on the group. I figured you couldn't go wrong for lunch in the area so when they suggested Redeye, I said, "Why not?" The service was so good that even my French companions (who are used to the notorious arrogance of restaurants in France), remarked on how good it was. I hate the fact that I can't remember the name of our waitress. If I'm ever around again I'll try to get her name to update this review. She was very patient with the group. We had to do a lot of translating among ourselves to figure out the menu. Kudos to her! The Pris Fixe Menu was perfect and had several options for all appetites. I went with the Calamari and Branzino. The New York Cheesecake was the dessert of choice for half the table. We also ordered a bottle of white wine. As I replay the whole experience, I can't really detract any points for anything. So if you're in the area for lunch, don't hesitate to stop by. read more

I took family members here for an expensive brunch a few weeks ago and was thoroughly disgusted to find a $10 charge for a small basket of bread. Our snarky eye rolling waiter swung by with our tap waters and casually said "you guys want some bread for the table?" No mention of any fee. I have never ever been to a restaurant that charged for a basic basket of bread for the table. When I relayed my surprise and upset at the charge, my comment was ignored. Redeye Grill us located across from Carnegie Hall and a short walk from Central Park. It has a great location for folks who are exploring this area of the city. They foolishly advertise on their sign..."HOME OF THE DANCING SHRIMP" This immediately made me think the place was just an overpriced FRIDAY'S. And it definitely colored my opinion on the place the entire night. The "Dancing Shrimp" turn out to be jumbo coconut shrimp...6 for $36. I arrived early and decided to sit at the bar and have a drink. Unimpressed with the bartenders and their cocktail selections, I opted for one of the only 3 draft beers they had on tap. So...not a great bar as far as I was concerned. The place is definitely NOT a big priced Friday's despite the ridiculous sign, it's a for real NY restaurant, with a fancyish atmosphere and very good service. The menu is pretty extensive and heavy on seafood and meat. One thing I must divulge is that we visited during Passover, so we were avoiding pasta and bread. Yes, beer is NOT Kosher for Passover, but as I am not actually Jewish, I can cheat a bit. Sadly, the two of us observing Passover had to avoid the chocolate chip cookies, which seemed like a strange thing to pass out before dinner, but the folks dining with us enjoyed the warm treats quite a bit. I felt the menu to be overpriced...but the reality is that the location pretty much insures that it has to be in order to survive. One of our companions had the fish of the day with the scallops and clams and gave it a rave review, as did her husband over his halibut. Everything was presented nicely and was perfectly cooked. My wife had the steak frites, which she also enjoyed. As for me...I never learn my lesson. I was avoiding anything else that might contain bread or pasta and was looking for a lower cost item (face it...many of us look to do that) and settled on the grilled mahi mani fish tacos. I made sure the tortillas were corn and not flour. Where I need to learn my lesson is NEVER to order tacos of any kind anywhere but a real taco place. Same with sushi. The tacos are on the menu as grilled mahi mahi, yet they came as either pan seared with a crust or fried...likely meaning there was flour on them. Not what I was expecting...and just killed my attempt at avoiding flour. I chose to just eat them anyway. Unfortunately, despite the fish itself being quite nice it was topped with a really bland slaw, and came with bland guacamole and bland pico de gallo. Luckily the street corn and potato chips were really good, although what a potato chip was doing with fish tacos is a mystery. Advice...stick with their other seafood dishes and steaks. Overall, aside from my poor choice in dinner order our party enjoyed our stay and would likely return at a time where I could eat whatever I wanted from the menu. The area itself tends to have similar pricing at most restaurants, so if you are looking for a less expensive meal, this area might not be right for you. I also got $15 onion rings which were unseasoned and so greasy I had to blot them on my napkin. There are thousands of restaurants with better food. I gave the waiter my card to pay and got the check and my card back I asked the bus boy if I was good to go because it looked weird and he said yes so I left but apparently that doesn't mean I paid and I got call after call claiming something went wrong and they were rude when I came back five minutes later to pay. Maybe if there service was better and everyone could communicate properly and speak english I'd give this a better rating but never again. read more

Asked for a second old fashioned and a dinner menu. Second bartender said "happy hour is over." And that's why I'm asking for a dinner menu. I made up my mind as to dinner but considering no one asked me what I wanted I didn't order. As the time passed the more annoyed I got. I almost didn't give a tip but I get that tips make part of their salary so I did give one but not the normal 25% I do. I probably won't give them a second chance. read more

They also add potato salad i side the roll which is pure mayonaisse or whatever condiment you use for it. The roll itself was great. The portion is huge but realistically your getting bread and Mayo. The French fries have a little rosemary taste which is a nice touch. Fish and chips the fish was bland. The crab cakes was beautifully presented as well but no real flavor if you didn't have any of the drizzle. The restaurant itself is beautiful and the staff is very friendly. This place is pretty classy and always gets crowds from Carnegie hall. If you don't have a reservation you will probably be out of luck. We did get lucky but had to battle with the concert crowd. Be warned, if it's busy, they run out of food. For the 5 of us, all they had was filets. Everything we asked about was gone. I honestly don't think they prepare enough for the crowds they get. Price of food is mid-range. Ambiance is nice with live music weekend nights - not too loud though where you can't hear your friends when they are talking. Also lighting isn't dark inside at night and during the day has good natural lighting from windows. Dress attire - we wore jeans. Seafood is amazing, that is what they are known for, but there are plenty other options for non-seafood eaters. Service was on point.
