The food was great, and we enjoyed our meals. However, the service could have been better. Our server seemed to be rushed or rather rushing us. He took our drink order and appetizer order and wanted us to put in the main course already. When I told him we weren't ready and he seemed annoyed. After our food was delievered we didn't seem him again until the check arrived. When we asked about ordering dessert to sing Happy Birthday to my son, he again seemed annoyed. We were walking around Manhattan looking for a place to eat, but so many restaurants had long waits. We stumbled upon this place and they were able to seat us quickly, which already felt like a win. After a matinee of "'The Outsiders" a good cry and an excellent nap, i was just going to go back to sleep at 9:30 pm, skipping dinner. Then I remembered that I was in New York on vacation! I honestly didn't realize this was a chain but it was new to us so we checked it out. Half of our party ended up at a different one and walked over to meet us at this one. They said that this one served better drinks and was busier. The restaurant is dimly lit with a fun atmosphere. Our service (Ali?) was really great and he provided a lot of great recommendations. I ordered the steak (medium rare) and fries for lunch. The food came out quickly and everything had nice grill marks on it, even including some slices of zucchini and half a carrot. The steak was good quality, a little undercooked (rare) which didn't bother me but it was heavily peppered which I am not a fan of. Fries were like McDonald's, nice and crispy. The quality of the food was good. However I found the truffle flavor a little overwhelming in the ravioli dish. As for the cocktail, the martini was strong. You could tell the volume is high at this establishment as service was not as attentive as one would like and the tables are very close to each other. Keep this in mind if you are going to the theater and get your app and entree order in straight away. Decor needs some work / TLC and fluidity as the back area seemed disconnected from the rest from a decor aspect. We started with the beet salad which was excellent. I had the branding that came with a white wine with cherry tomatoes sauce, asparagus and potatoes. Have you ever eaten something so good, you went back the very next day to order it again? Well that's what happened when we tried Serafina for my daughter's birthday dinner in NYC lol. My daughter loves Italian food and since this restaurant was right around the corner from our hotel, we decided to try it out. We made reservations for 6:45pm on a Thursday and were seated right away. I ordered the Jalapeño Margarita (my fav) and it did not disappoint. We started with the Calamari and also ordered the Spaghetti Pomodori with Bolognese Sauce, Eggplant Parmigiana and the Spaghetti Carbonara. While we waited, we were served warm bread and olive oil for dipping as well. The Calamari was the perfect appetizer. It was fried perfectly and tasted great with the warm, marinara sauce. The food took a little while to be served but it was absolutely wonderful. The server added fresh Parmesan cheese to our dishes and it enhanced the flavors even more. I ordered the Eggplant Parmigiana (which isn't served with spaghetti) and savored every, delicious bite. I tasted the other dishes as well and the Spaghetti Carbonara was the best I've ever had. The service at Serafina was great and the food was so amazing, we ordered the same entrees the very next day "to-go" and thoroughly enjoyed it once more. The marinara was excellent, the meatballs were really good and we enjoyed them very much. For dinner I had the Spaghetti Carbonara. The pasta was cooked to a perfect al dente, just the way I like it. They used bacon instead of the regular Guanciale but I didn't mind it. I still got the smoky goodness that I expected from a good Carbonara. Serafina was a block away from our hotel, and this was our first night in NYC after a long day of travel. It seems like the wait time for food is a problem among most customers as we overheard people needing to get food wrapped up since it was taking so long. No idea why the lackluster reviews--maybe the pasta isn't Al dente? I didn't have pasta at this Italian spot. I had a special, red snapper with tomatoes and capers. The fish was prepared wonderfully--moist, falling apart (in a good way). Tangy, crunchy green beans too! The focaccia appetizer with olive oil was also tasty. The bread was hot, a little crisp, full of herbs. Oh, and by the way--I didn't find out til later that the snapper was 42 dollars (I know my server was working to up-sell)! But it was worth it--I can't remember if I've ever had fish that good. I had a Paloma and basil strawberry martini. They were good, but I think you should stick with wine at this spot. Went on a Saturday brunch around noon and the place was startint to get packed, but since they have space between tables, you had the feeling of plenty space and not crowded at all. I had my linguine alla vongole and LOVE IT. Pasta al dent clams fresh, not too salty, perfect seasoning- here I wish the portion was a little bigger. Needed to say, it was more spaghetti than linguine... Husband shared with a friens brunch burger and pizza. Burger ordered medium came more done than expected but huge and full of flavour.
