The pelicans really enjoyed the sunset.
    John S.

It's a cute enough little marina. There's plenty of parking. There are lots of seabirds, including beautiful pelicans and one particularly fearless seagull (more about him later). The mouth of the harbor is very close to the marina; so if you're rowing, paddling, or pedaling, it doesn't take that much effort to get out into the open ocean. But if the waves are particularly big, you could get surprised by some major splashing over the breakwaters. I don't mind that it's run down and rusty-looking--that adds to the charm--but there's not that much room to maneuver before you have to watch out for larger boats. If you're on a paddleboard, be careful! I don't know whether it costs money to use the boat hoist, but the operator was pretty attentive the entire time we were here. Near the boat hoist, there's also a ramp that leads down to a floating dock, so if your craft is light enough to carry, that's probably the easiest way to get it into the water. The space is tight, though, so I could see how this could get complicated when it's busy. Back to that seagull guy. He was standing on the floating dock when we came down the ramp, so I expected him to do what all seagulls do and keep a beady little eye on us while he walked away but not too far. But he didn't move an inch. Nope, we trooped right past him, and he even came closer. I'm sure he was expecting us to feed him, but he didn't make any sound, and he even turned his back to us many times while we were really close to him. At one point, he walked right over one of the paddles (leaving wet webbed footprints on it) and pooped on our tether for good measure. I should have been annoyed, but how can you hate a seagull that hasn't stolen anything from you yet? I mean, we were invading his territory, after all. I could do without the obnoxious patrons of nearby R/10 and Naja's Place being Covidiots, but it's a free country, nominally, and nothing says American exceptionalism like having complete and total disregard for the safety of those around you, including your loved ones.

Had a great experience there, staff who ran the hoist were very careful with the boat.

Beautiful marina tucked away in Torrance, CA. If your staying in the area, Redondo Beach is just a walk away. The marina has a local vibe especially because of the bars, restaurants and shops in the area. Lots of things to do if it's just for a few days, see some seals at the docks and what an area to see gorgeous sunsets!

My life consists of bottle service, making money rain, and flashy jewelry everywhere. Okay, none of that is true (although I have my moments, actually). In reality, I have lived ten years in the black hole of the Valley and don't get out much. So when I met a guy asking me to spend the evening on a sailboat docked at King Harbor Marina; I was all, "Duh! Yes, please!" And thus began my acquaintance with King Harbor Marina. King Harbor Marina is located in Redondo Beach on Yacht Club Way in the heart of the Redondo beach community near the wharf. King Harbor Marina is a combination live/work nest meaning that it is literally a marina docking houseboats, yachts, and sailboats used for residency and/or recreation; but there are also apartment accommodations on the property. Basically, King Habor Marina is beachfront living at its finest. Swanky! You can't miss the entrance to King Harbor Marina as it has blatant signage and is beautifully nestled next to the sandy beach area. A large parking lot is available with parking passes available (temp and perm) for residents (both boats and apartments). Both the parking lot and marina are clean and well-maintained surrounded by palm trees, sand, and boats in every direction your eyes gaze. You can't help but be transported to a beach resort and you certainly forget about the smog craziness that is LA. Each boat docked in the marina is well-preserved with clean docks, all-night lighting, and locked gates to each dock with keys only given to those owning the boats and therefore ensuring security. There is a slight dirty water stench but very tolerable and there isn't trash floating around or bird poop everywhere so overall King Harbor Marina is clearly on-par with the upkeep. Accessibility to the docks and parking lot, trash bins, etc is all easy-peasy. King Harbor Marina also offers a clubhouse (also security-enforced with keys offered to paying tenants) with food, bathrooms, showers, etc. I was worried about using the restroom as I am not a fan of public toilets or showers but was delightfully surprised to find the toilets to be very clean, in top-working order, no odors, etc. It was cleaner than many inner-city business establishment rest rooms! Well done! I noticed, around 1am, that a security guard was walking around the parking lot with a flashlight checking for parking passes in cars so King Harbor Marina doesn't joke around with safety or making sure only those individuals are around who are supposed to be. 1am also marked the prime time for seal barking! These water dogs are LOUD and party it up barking at night! I loved it being an animal-lover but this may be an annoyance to some people. Don't forget to take a walk on the actual beach. The sandy stretch provides a rock jetty with beautiful sunsets perfect for moments of solitude. However, there weren't really any sea shells and on the contrary I saw trash and a dead sea gull so perhaps not the best of the best beaches in LA. Although, I don't personally lease at King Harbor so I can't vouch for the inner-workings of paying rent; my experience with the marina, clubhouse, etc was satisfactory. The property is safe, well-maintained, and nice on the eyes. Definitely check out King Harbor if you have the opportunity to live it up, Cali yacht-style.

I recently purchased a new vessel and contacted King Harbor Marine to secure a slip. Initially, the…read moreprocess seemed straightforward. We purchased a 25-foot boat with a 9-foot beam, so when we were shown available slips, I expressed concern about whether the boat would fit. We were given several options at the same quoted rate, and I specifically asked if we could have a backup option in case the original slip was too narrow. When the boat arrived, it became clear that the original slip would not accommodate the vessel's width, so we moved into the second slip option that had been presented to us. Everything appeared to be fine until I saw the monthly withdraw that was approximately $250 higher than the amount stated in our contract. After contacting the marina, I was informed by the manager, Jamessa E Henderson, that they had made a mistake and that the second slip actually carried a higher monthly rate. At no point was I informed of this price difference, nor was I asked to sign a revised agreement authorizing the higher charge. The marina simply began charging the increased amount without my knowledge or consent. When I explained my concerns, Janisha acknowledged the mistake and agreed that I should be reimbursed for the overcharges. However, when my deposit was returned, the promised reimbursement was not included. As a result, I have sought legal advice regarding the unauthorized charges. Beyond the billing issue, I was also disappointed by the atmosphere at the marina. The security staff frequently appeared to harass local kids who were fishing, which created an unwelcoming environment. We have since moved our boat to Port Royal and have been much happier. The facilities are nicer, the rates are lower, and the security staff are far more professional and respectful. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend King Harbor Marine.

*** BEWARE!! *** They don't deserve your business!!…read more AVOID this marina (and all marinas operated by California Yacht Marinas) if you are looking for a slip as they treat slip tenants like trailer trash and you won't believe how egregious their slip agreement is!! The Mayor and the City of Redondo Beach fully supports their overreaching and abusive Wharfage agreement. The CEO justifies their abusive agreement because some marina's in San Diego have similar language. I have lived in Hermosa Beach for over 25 years, owned boats for the last 20 years and have been waiting for the opportunity to get a slip in Redondo Beach for over 10 years and yet I had to walk away from this company because they represent the BASOLUTE WORST of the marina industry and their attitude towards their tenants is simply terrible!! Once I was approved on Sept 19th, I was told that I had to start paying for their slip on Oct 1st or lose it to the next in line. When I politely asked for consideration, they declined outright and made it blatantly clear that they view their tenants with utter contempt and disrespect. The callous disregard they displayed in requiring me pay for the slip from October 1st, despite knowing I'm obligated to give 30 days' notice at my current marina, speaks volumes. I'm very thankful that they laid bare their utter disdain for their tenants before I entered into their unbelievably egregious, 17 page Wharfage agreement that strips away even the most basic right of exclusive use of the slip that I would be paying them for!! It requires that I must notify them when my vessel will be out of the slip for more than 3 days so that they can re-rent it to a 3rd party without my consent or compensation and then require that I provide a 48 hours advance notice before returning to ensure that I can actually dock my boat in the slip that I am paying for!! They also have an egregiously prejudicial dispute resolution; they require a mediator to also be the arbiter for any subsequent binding arbitration due to a failed mediation. This ensures a 100% prejudicial outcome in their favor. Over the last 20+ years, I have berthed boats in 6 different SoCal marinas. 4 private, 1 county and now 1 city marina in 2 different SoCal counties. I can tell you for a fact that NOT ONE of any of the marinas that I have berthed a boat in the last 20+ years, including my current marina has or had any language even remotely close to the non-exclusive language in their agreement or the highly prejudicial dispute resolution!! Their staff assumes that a potential applicant will sign and do anything to win approval even if it means being forced to pay for 2 slips at once. The attitude shown to me during the application process made it very clear that they feel well empowered to subjugate tenants from the start. If I were to become a tenant, I would need to tread on eggshells over fear that I could be evicted on a whim because I complained about something, asked the wrong question or someone doesn't like the tone of my voice.

The office staff I've dealt with; Maureen and Sharon are friendly, professional and helpful. The jack of all trades, who's name I never got unfortunately, is constantly walking the docks, tidying up tripping hazards and looking out for everyone's boats. During a particularly windy storm (55 knot winds) a few boats had their jibs come unfurled, four of us wrestled with the sails of some of the absent owner's boats and mitigated the damage. It was good to see the marina staff and boaters come together when needed. I've left the marina headed out cruising, but highly recommend Port Royal Marina (and the other CYM marinas I've been to). The only reason I gave four stars out of five is the recent addition of the Shade restaurant nearby. It is a loud and obnoxious blight on the previously quiet waterfront. Try to find a slip as far away as possible, several members have moved their boats to other slips for this very reason. It's unfortunate and not the marinas fault, but I thought I should make mention, as it definitely is an issue.

Beware of Marina Del Rey Marina - Overpriced, Poorly Managed & Hostile to Tenants!…read more If I could give zero stars, I would. Marina del Rey Marina is hands down the worst marina in the area--and here's why: 1. Overpriced & Unjustified Fees - I was paying over $2,000 a month (plus electricity!) for what? To be constantly watched on security cameras and harassed by maintenance, security, and staff. 2. Not Pet Friendly (Despite Other Tenants Having Pets!) - I was singled out and discriminated against for having two cats, despite the fact that many other boaters have pets. I was a paying liveaboard tenant yet was constantly harassed--why only me? Jackie Z, the so-called "Harbor Master," is rude, discriminatory, and completely unprofessional, running the staff like her personal army while making life miserable for tenants. 3. Run by a Greedy Corporate Giant - Since being bought by Suntex, this marina has gone downhill fast. Suntex is a massive LLC that cares only about profits, snapping up marinas and ignoring tenant needs. 4. False Promises & Poor Amenities - Management talked for over a year about installing a laundromat--but instead, they put in an overpriced $1/gallon water refill machine. Meanwhile, they waste money on golf carts instead of actual necessities for tenants. 5. Sewage Stench & Rats - In the summer, the marina reeks of sewage because they built a shopping center on top of a sewage area. At night, rats run freely around the docks--a truly disgusting and unsanitary experience. 6. Suspiciously Empty Slips - Out of all the marinas in Marina del Rey, this one is noticeably partially empty. My guess? They're holding slips for the 2028 Olympics, planning to price-gouge boaters when the time comes. Bottom Line? STAY AWAY. This marina is run like a prison, with cameras everywhere, constant complaints via email, and management that does not care about its tenants. Unless they fire the current management and actually prioritize tenant needs, this marina will continue to be a hostile, overpriced nightmare. If you're considering docking here, go see for yourself why this is the only marina in Marina del Rey that's half-empty--and then take your business elsewhere.
