It's convenient to visit Redondo Beach Marina, and I think there are plenty of ocean oriented activities from sport fishing, kayaking, boat rides for whale watching, and seafood orientated dining experiences. Yay back open - most of the eateries have outdoor dining open and the snack shops are all open. Fishing on the pier and jetties. Fun place to just hang for a bite to eat, people watch or soak up some sun. Lots of parking, restrooms and bike/walking path. read more

It's a cute enough little marina. There's plenty of parking. There are lots of seabirds, including beautiful pelicans and one particularly fearless seagull (more about him later). The mouth of the harbor is very close to the marina; so if you're rowing, paddling, or pedaling, it doesn't take that much effort to get out into the open ocean. But if the waves are particularly big, you could get surprised by some major splashing over the breakwaters. I don't mind that it's run down and rusty-looking--that adds to the charm--but there's not that much room to maneuver before you have to watch out for larger boats. If you're on a paddleboard, be careful! I don't know whether it costs money to use the boat hoist, but the operator was pretty attentive the entire time we were here. Near the boat hoist, there's also a ramp that leads down to a floating dock, so if your craft is light enough to carry, that's probably the easiest way to get it into the water. The space is tight, though, so I could see how this could get complicated when it's busy. Back to that seagull guy. He was standing on the floating dock when we came down the ramp, so I expected him to do what all seagulls do and keep a beady little eye on us while he walked away but not too far. But he didn't move an inch. Nope, we trooped right past him, and he even came closer. I'm sure he was expecting us to feed him, but he didn't make any sound, and he even turned his back to us many times while we were really close to him. At one point, he walked right over one of the paddles (leaving wet webbed footprints on it) and pooped on our tether for good measure. I should have been annoyed, but how can you hate a seagull that hasn't stolen anything from you yet? I mean, we were invading his territory, after all. I could do without the obnoxious patrons of nearby R/10 and Naja's Place being Covidiots, but it's a free country, nominally, and nothing says American exceptionalism like having complete and total disregard for the safety of those around you, including your loved ones. read more

My review is based on my paddle boarding experience and can tell you the vibes were off for me. I came here a few weeks ago on a Saturday at 9:30 a.m. based on a YouTube video that suggested this is a nice spot for beginners with nice views, easy launch area, etc. It was eerily empty, overcast and it just looked old, dated and depressing. I saw the area where paddle boarders launch and I wasn't into it so I left. I needed to use the restroom and saw there was a porta potty and at 9 a.m. it wasn't too dirty. I ended up coming back here today with my sister since we were in town and this time we got here at 2:30 p.m. and it was a little busier, but that's because they're building stages for this music festival that's happening next weekend. The parking spots that were easy to get to a few weeks ago were not fenced off and filled with crap they were going to use for next weekends concert. I needed to use the restroom today and went to the same porta potty and it was full to the top with crap; so gross! This didn't deter us, weather was nice and we made our way down the ramp to the little platform where everyone launches and it was super busy. I even stood back and waited a little for traffic to clear up but it was non stop. People were either coming back in droves or just playing by the little cove with their kids and it made it difficult to get your board down there without almost hitting someone. Locals are rude to and made comments like, "You're blocking the entire walkway!" even though there's no one behind us and there's literally a small stretch of boardwalk the size of everyone's board that we all have to use. One group thought it was an ideal spot to launch their speedboat and took up a lot of space and when they drove off from the dock they weren't yielding to the pedestrians already walking towards the parking lot. It felt very Point Breaky (the localism not just in the launching area, but also where the boats were docked). I was trying to get my board up the ramp and some girl was down in the water scooping up trash and leaving it right underneath my board on the edge of the dock in stead of just taking it to the trash can. I was highly annoyed. Paddling around here in the afternoon is not ideal for someone that is easily sea sick. I'm not one of those people but I definitely felt the rolling of the water here versus other places and I felt higher up (tides probably rising but still, it was really odd). We paddled towards the cove and then out towards the right where the boats were docked and I saw a sea lion swimming in the water, but other than that the views weren't really spectacular to me. Definitely lots of space to paddle around but it was kind of boring. We did see RAT beach and P.V in the distance when we paddled back to the dock, but compared to Orange County I'd say it was pretty drab. If you're in the area, definitely give it a try, but I would rather paddle board at Baby Beach in Dana Point or Newport/Balboa. People are nicer out there too. read more

It was time to get away from Los Angeles and head towards the coast. With my mother arrivals back home, I had decided to go to a place that I frequented when I was young little lad. After visiting San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf, I decided to go Redondo Beach Marina. My mother and I arrived to the Redondo Beach Marina around 10 am. Parking goes for $2 for every hour. You will have the regular tourist/visitors on the lot and will have regulars bring their boat to have offloaded into the harbor. There is plenty of parking, but if it was a hot summer, I am sure this place will crowded and possibly prices would go up. I saw a sign at the parking booth that said, "Special Event", but the price was hidden. So, I did warn you :) The Marina is beautiful with the rock walls and the boats that are docked in the harbor. You will see a pool area for the kids. You will pay for admission, but the water is filtered and cleaner than swimming in the harbor. I saw families bring coolers and bags for a picnic. More importantly, I saw families having fun. For other activities, you can go on boat or use some manual manpower and do some kayaking/pedal boats. After all that walking, you will start to get hungry. You have your choice of going to Ruby's Diner or walk a bit to the boardwalk and get some fresh seafood. The most awsome place ever. Theres so much to do!!! Restaurants= SAMBA (brazillian Steakhouse & bar), On The Rocks (sports bar), Pollys on the Pier, Rubys, Delzanos, Captain Kidds (Seafood) The Marina has a wonderful sportfishing pier under new ownership which is getting ready to reopen in JUNE 2011. The new owner, Larry Derr also owns a bait company (In-Sein Bait) so there is bait readily available. As far as sportfishing goes, there are also 2 sportfishing boats that are 1/2 day and 3/4 day.
