Walked passed Red's on my way to breakfast on a Thursday. There was a Sold out sign. I figured, dang, those must be some special donuts! Took another walk on Saturday to breakfast, passed Red's and they were open. Turned back and entered a sweet smells of fresh baked donies. Service was great by Maricela and Evelyn. Donuts were delicious and perfect for our road trip back home. The glazed donuts are sold at Portola Hotel bakery.

I looked up places to go on my recent short trip to Monterey and found this little gem, which was apparently frequented by Clint Eastwood. Raised chocolate glazed - fantastic! You know how some donut spots skimp on the chocolate, so you eat only the top half like a little kid? Not Red's! Literally the most chocolate I've had on a raised donut ever. And thus, one of the best old school donuts I've had ever. Toddler loved the cake donut with vanilla glaze and rainbow sprinkles, though of course she is not picky when it comes to sweets. I didn't try it, but the cake was actually very soft and seemed fluffy. $1.10 per donut, $3 minimum for credit card. Definitely worth a quick visit if you're in the area! Delicious treat.

Went to Red's on Saturday, March 2nd for the first time. I'll give 3 ratings since I tried three different donuts. 1) 5/5* and my favorite I ordered was the Apple Fritter!! Just perfect in every way you can think of. Don't skip the Apple Fitter 2) 5/5* Maple Bacon Donut. Sweet, salty, and savory all in one accompanied with an incredibly soft and fluffy middle. 2nd favorite and simply outstanding. 3) 3.5/5* Cinnamon Crumb Donut. Good but didn't hit like the other two. I would eat it again but not necessarily order it again. Dryer than the other two and the cinnamon was a bit overpowering in comparison to the sugar/sweetness. One of the very best donut shops I've ever been to. Make sure you stop by Reds!!! Unbelievable quality and friendly service. 5/5 easy and that's a difficult score for me to give out but they deserve it!!!

This local shop has old timey charm and the best donuts! The prices can't be beat -- $1 for regular donuts, $1.50 for fancy donuts and special deals on dozens Monday through Thursday. The low prices are not indicative of quality - they are amazing! Soft and full of flavor. We had the following 6 flavors and are convinced you can't go wrong here: Blueberry Jam filled Boston crème Cinnamon crumb cake Glaze twist Maple with peanuts The special flavors are not made everyday, but you can inquire when they'll be available, and I'm sure they can accommodate specific requests. They open at 6am, and the donuts are perfect for breakfast or snack. If I was local, I'd be here everyday!

    Delicious donuts!

The old donut shop ambience is cool, but the donuts don't taste very good even though they are supposedly made fresh daily.

They made the donuts to order, but only took a few minutes. The normal glazed donut was crispy, chewy, and soft on the inside! We got the blueberry, cherry, and gluten free donuts. We had a short wait and then got our donuts warm. We had to let them cool and then my kids seemed to enjoy the cherry. When my son started eating the blueberry one though, he said it was like dough. I didn't think much of it until he opened it up and I realized it was raw/undercooked dough. This was really disappointing and I had to toss both blueberry donuts. The donuts looked a bit messy and rustic but it didn't bother me honestly. The undercooked donuts are a major issue though. I had the gluten free donut and it was very sweet and dense. It's almost like they added double glaze to hide the flavor and texture of the donut itself. I wanted to like this place but food safety is a huge priority for me and I don't think I would return sadly.

It had freshly cooked bacon to perfection, butter lettuce, the freshest tomatoes, an aioli sauce, on perfectly toasted sourdough bread. Would 100% get it again and I hope it's not seasonal because everyone should try this sandwich!! Flourless Brownie: 8/10 It definitely is a flourless brownie the texture of it is almost like fudge. It melts in your mouth instantly, there's not really much of a structure to the brownie. If you're a texture person this might not be for you as it's not a traditional brownie it's extra gooey. However, absolutely love the flavor of it. It's a rich chocolate flavor with powdered sugar on top. As a dark chocolate lover this was pretty good!! Banana Bread with Chocolate Chips: 6/10 It's nothing too special, it was more on the dry side but still strong banana flavor! Overall experience: 9/10 Customer service wasn't the greatest while waiting for our sandwich we didn't really know we had to wait, where to wait, and when I changed my mind on a pastry someone gave me a face. However, the ambience of the restaurant and food made up for it. I loved sitting outside, an amazing way to sit down and have a chat.

The cake donut was described as a "premium" option, which surprised me because it felt pretty standard. The coconut topping was minimal, just a light sprinkle, and the frosting was unusually heavy and thick. It didn't taste like a typical glaze or bakery frosting--instead it reminded me of the dense, processed frosting you'd find on packaged snack cakes. I ended up peeling most of it off and wouldn't order it again. The sugar donut itself also didn't stand out. It had an odd aftertaste that reminded me slightly of cinnamon, though I'm not sure if that was from the oil or the dough. Overall it didn't taste very fresh, and I didn't enjoy it enough to finish. Overall, the pricing is reasonable for the area, but the quality didn't match expectations. I actually ended up throwing the sugar one away and eating the cake donut after peeling off the frosting. The shop itself feels more like a small diner counter than a dedicated donut shop, with a few donut options alongside a basic counter setup. I wouldn't return based on this visit.

Everything about it was wrong. The dryness of the bread, the apparent lack of butter, the use of powdered milk, the overly sugariness of the almond paste itself. The marina coffee shop used to carry an almond croissant from another bakery, which I was really looking forward to. So when I bit into this one, I was immensely disappointed. Taste is subjective so I can't say that it's terrible, but I really wanted to throw out the remainder of what I was eating.

When you look at all the possibilities, your eyes pop out and you start questioning why didn't you make it here at the start of your trip so you could have everything they make. So yes I went full chaos mode and bought 4 cinnamon rolls. Not cheap either. These weren't grab and go, these make you check your account balance before you buy type of rolls. They were large, fresh, and topped with fruit. I carefully placed them in the back seat like they were precious cargo I was transporting back to Los Angeles. I told myself, I see road trips to come back here JUST for these rolls. Then I took a bite. And listen...the disappointment didn't just set in, it moved in, unpacked, and changed its address. It was tasteless. Completely. The peaches on top with the syrup glaze looked like they had a personality, but they also tasted like absolutely nothing. I've had more emotional satisfaction from a grocery store fruit cocktail cup that comes with that tiny plastic spoon that bends immediately. And now I'm sitting here confused, because I saw the Yelp reviews. I saw the low stars. I IGNORED them. Why? Because the smell had me in a chokehold. The smell was doing marketing, branding, PR, and emotional manipulation all at once. So I'm perplexed. Truly. Where did that smell come from? Because it was not in the bite. Not even a suggestion of it. I want what I smelled. Honestly... I think they're just burning cinnamon roll-scented candles in there and calling it a bakery. That's the only logical explanation. Because not one bite I took matched the smell I followed in like a cartoon character floating through the air. I wasted calories trying to find the taste. And I'll say it for the record: I did not buy cinnamon rolls. I bought scented air with commitment issues.
