Best donuts in the area. I ordered a dozen fancy donuts by Door Dash. We first tried the chocolate bar donut and its dough actually had some density to it to balance out the sweetness. Best bar donut I've ever had. Then we tried the maple bar donut and it was filled with custard which I don't usually like because it is too sweet and has a funny taste but this custard wasn't too sweet and it was balanced out by the dough. DH came here to pick up a few donuts and coffee for us. There is a back parking lot with more spaces. He said this place definitely had a diner vibe. It is not bougie. This is where the regular people get their breakfast items. It took a while to get the order filled, as one worker was occupied making bagel sandwiches. DH wished there were labels on the donuts. I heard a lot of good things about this place, but I actually wouldn't recommend it, sadly. The person helping us was not welcoming at all and had an attitude when getting our donuts. When my husband asked for a particular apple fritter, she rolled her eyes and said "they are all the same." My husband was like - "I know, this one just looks really cool." Their donuts were extremely fresh, some still warm and the most delicious we've ever had!!! I recently came across a "locals" guide to restaurants, cafes, and other shops on the Monterey Peninsula and was wildly disappointed in what the artist chose to exclude (including the entire city of Marina??? I stopped here on the way to work and was glad I did! After being told to come and stop to get the best doughnuts in Seaside, I finally did. Normally, there is a sign that says "sold out" by the time I get off of work... which is a good thing because people must love the doughnuts here. I went inside expecting to just see a counter with doughnuts, oh no! There is a whole diner inside off to the corner (which was packed and people were waiting to sit and eat). As for the doughnuts themselves, they are reasonably priced at $1.10/ each, and the more you get, more of a discount you receive. I got a cream-filled maple doughnut and it was tasty! Even while stopping by during the busy Monterey car week, the location was filled with locals who were grabbing a quick bite and a coffee to go. Red's is a no-frills donut shop and I hope it stays that way. Even with a line of six or seven people in front of you, the staff keep operations running smoothly, and you can be in and out in less than five minutes. Prices are competitive, even with the donuts at grocery chains, and the quality is superior. Donuts are made fresh in the morning and when they sell out (and they often do) then they're done for the day. I do wish they'd bring in an espresso machine to be able to offer shots and americano's but, then again, that's not the focus of this coffee shop. My wife went wish her favorite, old-school, classic raised and glazed donut. She let me have a bite, and it was soft, fluffy, and the glaze was just the right amount. My old school cake donut, also glazed, had the perfect density that I prefer in this style of donut, and the glaze was not overly sweet or overpowering. There are some inconsistencies with their cake donuts in that they vary in size. I was the unlucky fellow who received the smaller of the bunch. Next time, I'll be a little bit more picky and ask for the jumbo one in the back. Because yo'boy can eat some donuts! read more

I love the 1950s-style dinette seating, and the custard-filled donuts were awesome. They recently celebrated their 75th anniversary, so the 1950s-style was undoubtedly from the 1950s. Great little local place. I am sad that I just found it right as I was moving away, but I will return to take some classes at CSUMB in a few years. This use to be the goto place for donuts. The Monday and Tuesday dozen deals are gone. I got there on a Monday 7am asked for the dozen deal and was told thats not an option anymore. No problem since the donuts are usually good. I asked for 2 glazed donuts. He must have grabbed the day old ones. I left and got to work. Grabbed the donut and it was wet... this is usually bad. My wife and her family have been coming here for over 2 decades. They can't stop raving about it. So it's only natural that we introduce our kids to Red's chocolate donuts. This is by far our families favorites. We even slightly warm it up and add a small sliver of butter on top. Which is what I am told Reds used to do for my wife and her siblings growing up. Been going to this donut place as a child. Now I come here every time I visit home. The cinnamon rolls and apple fritters are huge and so delicious! They also have big maple bars.
