WHAT WENT RIGHT?!? Everything. Not just today, when I came in with grease all over my hands and…read moreholding back my tears. Alameda Bicycle on Park Street is a part of the community, and I feel so honored to spend my money here. Gene, George and Crew are unmatched in the Bay Area. They sell mid-price range bikes, so no $300 bikes or $14,000 bikes. I bought my first new bike here after graduating from Cal, and got my first Wall Street bonus, moons ago. It was my dream bike, a black Cannondale, top of the line. After that, got married and had children and Gene saw me through training wheels through teenage years, then sadly through a divorce. Back in a bike and climbing mountains - loving life! Anyway, today, after trying all night to get my chain back on my new e-bike (not possible on the road) I walked in and George was at the door. He sensed my frustration and said, "Come on in." It wasn't an easy fix. But they worked on it, two guys 25 minutes, and 5 tools. Meanwhile, I walked into the showroom to check out the bikes (tee hee hee). Then I noticed a new coffee and tea station with a couch and chairs, and Madeline cookies. It's just what I needed after a frustrating night and morning trying to fix it myself. Such a mindful and kind touch. People easily complain, so positive heartfelt reviews are gold. Alameda Bicycle is a solid community member and business. Honest. If I don't need something, George will say, "You don't need that." Last time, I picked up some gorgeous Ortlieb panniers (which they installed) and a fix-a-flat for on the road flats. I forgot it on the counter -- it was here waiting for me when I returned a few weeks later. They only had my old digits! BTW, I didn't eat the last Madeline cookie. I saved it for you! Come and get it -- and remember to support these incredible bike angels. Super, super Good Vibes. The absolute best Alameda bicycle shop -- to me.

One of the employees offered to let me borrow their floor pump. I was struggling to figure out how to use it, and the employee ended up helping me pump my bike tire. It's been years, but I still remember this kind gesture from one of their employees. It's hard to find parking around Park Street; it's convenient that they have four compact parking spots and one handicap accessible parking spot in their parking lot.

I have been coming here for years. Couple of years back I had a not so good experience with one of…read morethe service specialists but I brushed it off as one off and continued to get my service repairs here. Today I went in for an issue that I was having on my rear brake (squeaking noise and over heating ).They had changed the brake pads and I had not used my bike much. So I was expecting something to do with that. The person (same Specialist) suggested to replace the system (pad, rotor ) to fix it as it was a waste of time for him to clean the pads. He was also expecting me to pay for the brake pads again. He also insinuated that I must have insisted for just the brake pad change to save costs etc , basically passing the issue to me. At that point I lost trust in the repair recommendation and bummed by the attitude. And will likely get his fixed somewhere else. Used to love this place but am going to another shop onwards.

What stands out to me is there quality of bike services for repairs, customer service for shopping for a new bike, and bike maintenance. They also have a used bikes section (varying inventory) which is terrific for families with young kids that frequently need new bikes without breaking the parent's bank. On the flip side, for the more enthusiasts or adult bikers they have bikes that should satisfy their needs for sure. The staff is helpful and friendly which is something that's never present with online or big box shops so definitely consider this bike shop in the future.

This review is long overdue. I want to thank Tom for working on my kid's bike. I reached out to him…read moreto ask if he can work on the bike. Mind you, this is not an expensive bike. It's not a Cannondale, Specialized, or Trek. Our bike is a Huffy.. yes, a Huffy. It's my kid's first bike and it's special to him. Tom was great. He answered quickly to my query and after a few questions back and forth, we agreed to have the work done. I went to his place to drop off the bike. He told me that he doesn't discriminate when it comes to bicycles. He works from his garage and he showed me the types that he works on.. from our Huffy to some high end custom ones that I don't even know. A quick chat of his previous career and his transition to his current hobby tells you of his passion for bicycles and more importantly, bicyclists. He charged me basically for labor and it was more than fair. The part didn't cost that much so it was a no brainer over a new bike. All in all, he's a great guy who works on bikes, no matter what type. His fees beats shops and overall a great experience. My boy now rides his bike all the time.. just in time for summer. Thank you!

Tom was extremely professional throughout the entire process. He took the time to inspect everything thoroughly and even provided photos of the issues he found, which helped me understand exactly what needed attention. What impressed me most was his honesty, he only recommended the repairs and parts that were actually necessary and never tried to upsell me on anything I didn't need. Although he operates out of his garage, his setup and level of professionalism felt more legitimate than some of the bike shops I've visited. His turnaround time was quick, communication was great, and it's clear he has a lot of experience and expertise working on bikes. My bike is riding better than it has in years. I highly recommend Tom to anyone looking for quality, honest bike service, and I'll definitely be referring friends and family to him in the future.
