I signed my teenaged child up for a$ 400 American Red Cross lifeguarding course offered…read morethrough/being held at The Kingsbury Club. I spoke with Chris over the phone in order to register my child, and he told me that the confirmation emails and the email to start the online training portion would be sent directly to my son. I took notes from the phone call: he gave me a date by which I had to cancel, and told me about the pre-participation swim test that had to be passed before participating in the lifeguarding course. Now, the swim test was not just " can you swim a lap in the pool?" No, it was swim 150 yards without touching the sides of the pool with your hands, tread water for 2 minutes without your arms, dive down 7 feet and pick up a brick, return it to the surface, then swim with it 50 yards. So this was not your average swim test, and this info was not communicated in advance. Unfortunately, my son did not pass the test and was unable to participate in the lifeguard course. While he was working trying his best to complete the tasks, he felt like the ADULT IN CHARGE WAS MAKING FUN OF HIM. I don't know if this was Chris or not, but there is no reason that a 15-year-old should be made to feel bad for trying something and not making it. The following day after the swim test, I called the facility and asked for a full refund for the course since my son would not be participating in it, and it was explained to me then that the refund is 50%, because "they can't resell his spot." Now that was unsatisfactory to me because that was not explained in advance, and they claim that that information was sent in an email to my child. This is unacceptable because a 15-year-old cannot be expected to make decisions and judgements regarding a financial commitment that is communicated in an email. I spoke to Chris who was fairly respectful and communicated the policy. He was not able to solve the problem, and I asked to speak with his supervisor. He connected me to Brad. I told Brad the situation, and he proceeded to scoff at me, make fun of my son, question his intelligence, and question my intelligence. It was an extremely negative interaction with no sense of customer service. This whole experience has left a very bad feeling with me. I feel like they stole $200 from me, that they only send the email to the teenager so that they can do this very manipulative practice. Terrible facility.

Robin, with her passion for fitness, welcoming personality, and fun approach to getting each individual thru a class, is a star. No one session is the same as the next. I do 3 classes a week and get a full body and cardio workout from her huge array of simple to follow exercises. Amazing what a workout you can get in 30 minutes with a chair and a single 8lb weight. I'd been dragging and looking for a good total body workout that wasn't an endurance competition or some fad. This is good old fashioned exercise done with the purpose of getting you fit and enjoying it while you are doing it. It's the best combination. And not easy to do.

I like price is right for what you get. It isn't the low cost option but if you want to take classes it is a great place and a good value. The place is a typical suburban gym a mix of meatheads, highschooler, mothers, retirees, and middle aged parents. No one group dominate the place. You can see yourself when you go here. The one negative is the men's bathroom. While not the worst gym I've seen, it could use more frequent cleanings and more ventilation.

It's possibly one of the cleanest gyms that i've been to, with a great variety of equipment to use... ranging from cardio (treadmills, ellipticals, stairmasters & a jacob's ladder, if i'm not mistaken), to machines, to a wide variety of free weight options! Now, it's not a HUGE gym, but for it's size (and it's not tiny), it offers a lot of options for you. And to my surprise, it has an "outdoor gym" - but i've been hitting this gym at 5am, that is only open when there's staff so... makes sense. I'm driving in from CT for my job, so if\when I move to Mass, Medway AF will be my new "home gym"!

This review is based on personal experience. All names of members have been altered to respect review guidelines of Yelp but coach names are public & used. RCFM used to be a great place. I've been going for years but things are worse & anyone considering it should avoid it. Spencer's head coach & great the problem is he isn't there much. This means alot of coaching falls to others. This is a big problems because the other coaches are not good. Luis is a good coach but treats the box like tinder. Luis dated 2 members & asked out several others. He was also caught with the underage daughter of a member at there house when my husband walked in on them. She was 17 then & attended the box. Luis asked another underage member on a date but she said no. The first member he dated is no longer there but the new one he dates is. Luis also likes flirting with the wives. He's super friendly with a couple named Brin & Barry & is always at there house. He walked in when Brin was in the shower & is over alot in the summer when the pools open. Brin & Luis are very close. Me & members saw Luis giving Brin massages & hands on guidance during many classes. Luis does this with other wifes as well. Luis is to close to people at the box. Its weird and unprofessional. Brian used to coach then he left & now is sort of back. He is not a good coach & is uncomfortable being in front of people. Brian also dates a member at the box & she was also underage when they started dating but apparently RCFM doesn't mind. Most members were disgusted by this but the box didn't fire him or tell him to stop so keep that in mind if you have underage daughters. Kevin is not good. He sometimes has nasty body odor and cannot do the techniques like pullups. He is too big and does not look like he works out. He also thinks he's a badass & better than people. Rose is another awful coach. She has an attitude problem & thinks she is above people. Most of the members can't stand her. Ashley is coach & she was the underage girl Brian started dating. Now she coaches. She needs alot of work. Katie is the member that Luis now dates. She coaches now to. Is there a pattern here? Katie's problem is she's kind of a b*tch. She's not a nice person & I try to avoid classes with her. Eric Mcwilliams is a good coach & I wish they used him more. Mike K is listed as the co-owner of the box but he's hardly ever there. I think I've seen him like 6 times since I've been there. I mentioned Brin & Barry earlier. The box loves them because Mike asked people if they wanted to pay $10k to become lifetime members. Brin & Barry were the only ones that did it. Since then they've been the favored couple. Brin is the type of person who complains about everything. People claim to like her but when shes not around they say what a b*tch she is. She likes causing trouble. Barry's a clown & thinks he has alot of power but people talk him about because he's a goof. But everything at the box is set up for them. Mike called them the heart & soul of the community which is a joke & insulting to everyone else. But I guess all that matters is if you have the money to become a lifetime member. The box used to have parties. They don't now which is good because two underage members got completely drunk at one. The box is usually a mess and people bring there dogs in who pee and poop on the turf. At some classes its like a kennel. A basketball net was supposed to be weighed down with sand but they put dumbbells instead & it fell on a member knocking her out & causing dental issues. But did nothing & the basketball net stayed & the only real effort made was to pay her dental bill. She left in disgust. Her sister left soon to.Another member tore her ACL because Luis wasn't properly observing. Maybe he was doing more hands on coaching with Brin. This member wasn't even contacted by the box, no apology, nothing. She left to. The morning 930 class is the worst filled with moms who gossip instead of train. This is the class Brin attends with her friend Ramie who is supposedly super christian & good but shes actually just another b*tch. She also talks about Brin behind her back which is fine because Brin talks about her & how she thinks Ramie's husband is gay. Some of us went to breakfast one time and Ramie said to the waitress that she was trying to decide how much the waitress was worth in terms of a tip. Real christian. I'm going to leave soon because its bad. This review will upset many people but theyll blame it on some one else who left and not me so thats good. Even the wods are dumb & we didn't even do a hero wod on veterans day! I feel like all the good people left and its not a happy place anymore. I used to love it & now I don't. read more

I have been a member of this gym since it opened 5 years ago. Before that I belonged to another really good crossfit so I can directly compare. RCFM is top notch. Head Coach Spencer is as experienced and knowlegeable as you can get in crossfit. Smart, personable and passionate, he's a competitive athlete who also trains and certifies crossfit coaches around the world. His programing is challenging, but safety and scalability is always at the forefront. Coach Luis is another top tier coach who has been there since the beginning. As the gym has grown they have hired and developed additional coaches with different experiences and skill sets, resulting in a strong and client-focused team. The coaches and programming are great, but what really stands out at RCFM is the community. It is really strong, fun, supportive, welcoming - I can't say enough positives! There are lots of opportunities to meet new folks and everyone is super nice and welcoming. Members come from all surrounding towns (and some further), and there's a great mix of ages, professions, SAHMs, fitness levels, etc. In any class you can have a competitive athlete next to a first timer, and both are getting a great workout. It's a very fun, relaxed group who enjoy regular get-togethers outside of the gym, whether it's a charity event, or an evening social, or an informal inhouse competition and BBQ. We work out hard, but we also laugh a lot . I can't recommend RCFm more strongly read more

Spencer, Luis and all the other coaches really work with each person to get their form right and encourage the best out of every member. I joined crossfit as a way to crosstrain through an injury in running, admittedly as a complete skeptic, and I am completely hooked. The results are incredible and the community makes you want to get up every morning to go workout. The coaches push for the best out of you everyday and give good advice on how to scale your workouts so you can complete it based on your ability. I've been a member at other gyms and never had such a positive experience as at RCFM. I never thought I could have liked crossfit as much as I do. I was always waiting for the time when i could return. The time finally came and I was scared to come back because i was so out of shape and gained a lot of weight and not feeling very confident. I'm going to be 57 years old soon, I am an avid runner and attended the gym faithfully four times per week, but I got to the point where I was just going through the motions. I knew I needed more, something different, and thanks so my son's encouragement to try Crossfit I've found it. Alicia and Brad, the owners at Crossfit Cut are wonderful, they get to know who you are and your personal goals so that they can encourage you to achieve them, and when you're ready to push beyond. You don't have to want to do it all or compete with others in the gym; it's all about the personal achievements you set for yourself and driving towards those goals. Wow! Not what I expected at all! I was overweight and…read moredesperately needed to get in shape. I had heard of Crossfit and saw all the videos of crazy athletes online and I knew that wasn't me. I also knew that I hated running and would get bored easily at a regular gym with eliptical and weight machines. I needed something new, so figured I would go to Crossfit one day, just to check it out, after all, it was free. Brad and Alicia had me do an intro session. They were extremely informative and seemed to understand when I needed encouragement and when I needed a breather. They teach and enforce proper safety, strategy, form and technique. They even taught me about proper nutrition and diet! Brad and Alicia are not only knowledgeable, but they are passionate at what they do. To this day, I'm not the fastest of the group and I'm certainly not the strongest, but I am 50 lbs lighter and much healthier than I was. I feel younger and am able to do things that I never thought I would be able to do again. Mission accomplished. Thank you Brad and Alicia!!

I've dropped in a few times over the years just to see how the Box is evolving, as I also do with…read moreother local Crossfits, just to compare them all over time. These are just my observations of the current experience. 1. Rusted/Old Bars - Most of the lifting bars (Men/Women) are in bad shape. Some have rust on them. I've been to many places that take care of their bars and lots of the time have all the same brand. There are numerous brands of bars in various levels of disrepair. 2. Rowers in Disrepair - They have a limited number of rowers (5?) of which are in really bad condition. One didn't register me rowing while another's chain was loose in the chamber with no tension, essentially not a functioning rower. 3. Assault Bikes in Disrepair - They also have limited Assault Bikes that are also in various levels of disrepair from broken foot pedals to unmaintained chains which is evident when pedaling. 4. Dirty/Separated Floor Tiles - The floor doesn't seem to have been cleaned in a long time, there were patches of mold in the area nearest the kettlebells. There was significant dirt in a lot of places as well as old tape for marking lines. The floor tiles have significantly come apart in many places. The widest I noticed was enough to place my hand inside and touch the concrete below. 5. Slated/Uneven Floor - The floor is uneven nearest the two side bay doors which has about 4 workout spots. So uneven that when I put my barbell down, the barbell rolled away from me pretty fast. 6. Filthy Bathrooms - Has to have the filthiest bathrooms of any CrossFit that I've visited and I've been to a lot! There were remnants of previous explosive visits to the toilet evident in the toilet and outside of it. 7. Unfriendly Coach - I went to a morning class and didn't receive the friendliest welcome. The Coach seemed as if they couldn't be bothered with me. This Coach teaches the early morning class at 5:30am. 8. Bad Wallballs - They are the cheap wallballs in which a lot of them have sand-like debris that falls out of them when you use them which gets in your eyes. Most are weight lopsided meaning that the weight isn't evenly distributed, common in the cheaper wallballs. 9. Bloody/Dirty Tapped Rigs - Some of the rigs have tape for a better grip. The tape grips have dried blood soaked into them. All were extremely dirty and hadn't been re-tapped in who knows how long. 10. Dirty Mats - The Box has the three-section folding mats as well as some larger black foam mats to lay out for HSPUs, for example, and they were all dirty. Didn't seem like they had been cleaned in a while. 11. Dumb Bells/Rubber Plates Broken - A lot of dumb bell heads are loose or the rubber coating is coming off due to wear and tear. Many of the rubber plates are in poor condition from the center metal ring being loose or the plate itself just being in poor condition or both. 12. Limited Class Times - There's a 5:30am, 9:30am, 12:30pm, 4:30 and 6:30am. You're out of luck if you want more flexibility for your schedule. Many of the area CrossFits have a more convenient morning class offering. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this Box. I've visited all the ones surrounding this one in the area and would recommend any of them over this Box. For instance, CrossFit Tilt and CrossFit City Line have state-of-the-art facilities with dedicated coaches. Everything is fairly clean and the Coaches are super friendly/experienced. The Drop-In fees are comparable and the entire communities at both are fantastic. The owners are all experienced CrossFitters that have made it to high-level competitions. They actually plan events together outside the Box frequently. There is a lot of parking at both places and they have doors to enter the facility. Oh, forgot to mention that CrossFit Newton doesn't have a dedicated front door, they have a bay door which you have to open and close in the colder weather. I also took some time and talked with some of the other members. There's a lot of drama and clicks in this Box. I will say that a lot of the members are fairly nice and pleasant. Most go because it's really close to them or because they are used to it.

The coaching is fantastic and the people are even better. Everyone is so welcoming and the workouts over the past few years have put me in the best shape of my life. If you are looking to try something new but are a bit intimidated, don't be! This place is fantastic and I would reccomend it to anyone who is thinking of trying it out.

Ed has supported me the entire way, offered advice and had insights into how to train effectively and safely. He is an amazing resource that wants to help YOU with your fitness goals. The gym itself is always spotlessly clean and all equipment is maintained and in working order. There is enough equipment that you're never waiting or trying to "work in" with another person. There also isn't so much equipment that the space feels cramped and that you're on top of each other. This place truly has everything that you need and nothing you don't. If you're interested in improving your physical and mental fitness I would highly recommend you reach out to Ed and get started. FINALLY a trainer that knows what he is talking about. Goes over your nutrition too and stays on top of everything.
