I was very impressed with my first visit to Reef Zaman! I ordered the Double Kabob Plate with lamb and chicken, and it was absolute perfection. The meat was incredibly tender, juicy, and full of flavor. I chose the tabbouleh salad and garlic potatoes as my sides, and both were fresh, delicious, and paired perfectly with the meal. To drink, I had the strawberry lemonade, which was refreshing and the perfect complement to everything. The interior ambiance is classy, elegant, and relaxing, making it a wonderful place to enjoy a meal. The service was outstanding as well. My waitress, Noor, made me feel genuinely welcomed from the moment I arrived and checked on me often to make sure everything was perfect. If you're looking for fresh, authentic, and delicious Mediterranean food in a beautiful setting with exceptional service, I highly recommend Reef Zaman in Redwood City! I can't wait to come back!

The creamiest, silkiest, most perfectly balanced hummus

What a fantastic experience! A surprise encounter at this new restaurant capped my day with a perfect ending. From the outside, Reef Zaman beckons alluringly with promises of an elevated, posh, and comfortable dining experience away from the frustrating traffic and crowds of downtown RWC. Overlooking a creek, surrounded by plentiful parking, and tastefully decorated inside and out, this oasis more than delivered on all its promises! The staff was well trained and seemed familiar with the menu and the space, even though I think it might have been the first day open to the public. Friendly, professional, and competent, everyone seemed to be an expert in their trade/craft, and excited to be there. There were several dining setups to accommodate different preferences: comfortable, low cushioned benches at a low large table (majlis/jalsa/seddari style seating with kilim weave); western-style dining tables with padded chairs; even a beautiful extra long natural wood table for communal seating! The fresh squeeze juices were phenomenal: we had a fresh raspberry juice and a mint lemonade - both stood on their natural fruit flavors, and care had clearly been taken to source and prepare the fruit properly. No over-sweetening: the lemonade was tart and there was a delightful amount of fresh mint leaves incorporated in a smooth, light, refreshing drink. The raspberry was less tart but just as clean and refreshing with its own natural sweetness. We tried their hummus, babaganoush, tabbouleh, and one other fresh chopped salad with a very tangy lemon based dressing (I'm realizing my error in not capturing a pic of the menu). The hummus was the smoothest and most perfectly balanced, gentle-palate, creamy hummus I have ever tried (and I've tried MANY). The babaganoush might have been my number one favorite thing I ate here! The smoke was prevalent as it should be, without overpowering or being acrid; the texture was perfectly balanced mix of creamy and wisps of juicy eggplant peeking through; I don't know how they landed it so well but I am going to order that every chance I get! The tabbouleh was fantastic, a perfect balance of moist bulgur or couscous with fresh chopped vegetables and the perfect lemon olive oil dressing. However, the owner said he's bringing in a Lebanese friend for his recipe which will blow that one out of the water! I'm going to have to try that. The last salad was tasty and tangy, fresh and exciting, but I don't remember the name. Think pico de gallo with radish and cucumber but swap cilantro for parsley! Great to cut the richness of the grilled entrees... We had the chicken shawarma (side), chicken kebab, shrimp kebab, and grilled lamb chops. The entrees came with a gently buttered(?) saffron rice with a hint of sumac - very tasty support/base for the amazing, smoky grilled meats... Their chicken shawarma was quite solid with a satisfying flavor, perfectly cooked. The chicken kebab was SO good, avoiding being dry but having a nice char from the charcoal grill! I loved the seasoning/marinade they used, because it permeated into the chunks of chicken breast, great flavor in every bite! The shrimp were seasoned to excite the palate while letting the perfect texture and clean flavor of the shrimp still shine through. The lamb chops... well. Oh my days, it made me lie back, close my eyes, and sigh to the heavens. It melted in my mouth. They must have sous-vided it or something to make it so incredibly soft! I tried to bat my eyes at the chef to learn his secret ingredient in the seasonings - he says it was love!! I cannot wait to go back with more family and friends to experience these and other delights The Reef Zaman has to offer!

Great ambiance. The manager and his staff are so welcoming and inviting. Probably one of the best Mediterranean and Arabic food I've had even better than Mazra. I plan on coming back with more of my friends and co workers here.

This was a good bread, round and splittable like a pita, served hot from the oven and sprinkled with some seeds (I think sesame, although I didn't pay close attention). 2. Meze Trio: patlican ezme (roasted eggplant, bell peppers), haydari (garlic yogurt dip with mint and dill), girit (ezine cheese with pistachios, oregano, olive oil). Loved the eggplant--tender and tasty! The yogurt dip was good, but I couldn't eat large amounts of it. The cheese was ok, a bit too heavy for us. 3. Ahtapot (grilled octopus on lime mashed potatoes and paprika butter). I didn't eat this, but the kids liked it. The octopus seemed very tender, and the potatoes were good. 4. Roka (arugula, diced cooked beets instead of tomatoes, honey mustard). Good, but the creamy dressing made it feel a little heavy after a while. 5. Mercimekli imambayildi (lentils-stuffed roasted eggplant). Imam bayildi translates as "the imam fainted" (because the dish is so delicious, maybe?). This was excellent. The eggplant had a wonderful smokey, roasted flavor. The lentils were good. There was a garlic yogurt moat around the eggplant. 6. Kunefe (shredded filo, melted cheese center, syrup, pistachios, scoop of Maras ice cream). Very good, maybe a bit too much for the three of us, maybe better if split four ways. Located on the corner of San Carlos and El Camino. Street and lot parking nearby.

Next choice was Pasha, with a covered patio & hookah lounge, as well as a large open space inside. The lemonade cost $7, which I wasn't willing to pay unless it was at least 20 oz. Iced tea isn't listed on the menu, so I asked. Made of freshly brewed real tea the day, it was quite welcome. The tea was served in a cut/molded glass pineapple shaped glass. Truly practical: good grip, less likely to slip. Uncommon, but attractive. I ordered the salmon wrapped in lavash bread, minus onions & mayo. I asked for hummus bi tahini instead. There was lettuce, cucumber, & unripe tomatoes (It's tomato season, folks, but most restaurant produce suppliers just sell for bulk, not necessarily peak/in season. That's a different, more costly supplier) inside the wrap, the char-grilled salmon just right. I'd say that even if I had eaten earlier. The salad was marinated (I think) red cabbage over lettuce, cukes, & pale tomato. The whole meal--no dessert--was really tasty and welcome. The staff was pleasant, the food was true to its eastern Mediterranean roots. While ostensibly Turkish, there were Armenian and Greek elements (erm, both done wrong by the Turks). I did get a top-off offer for my iced tea, which I happily accepted. My meal was just over $20, including tax. Grilled salmon had a sauce to add to the lovely flavor, but was slightly overdone for my taste/ uniform pink, as opposed to darker pink center, which if reheated, will not be too dry. In spite of using red onion instead of the whites of green onions, the tabbouleh was just right. The red onion dice didn't bite, as un- or slightly cooked onions do to me. The tomatoes were ripe, too. I have to take most of the tabbouleh and pita, and half the salmon home: portions bigger than stomach. Happy tum!

There was a lot of miscommunication between employees, one staff member told us one thing, then another employee came over and told us the opposite. It honestly felt unorganized and confusing, and when we tried to clarify, the interactions came across as rude rather than helpful. Before coming, we had already noticed the reviews were pretty mixed, with a lot of people praising the food but also many mentioning issues with the service. Sadly, after our experience, we can understand why. Customer service really sets the tone for the whole experience, and unfortunately the staff interaction alone was enough for us to decide to leave instead of staying to dine in. We genuinely wanted to give this place a fair chance since we drove so far for it, but the overall experience just didn't make us feel welcomed.

The outdoor seating area has a lot of potential, though it feels like the space could be used more effectively. The indoor seating was much nicer and had a better atmosphere. One highlight was the gentleman working there, who was warm, welcoming, and genuinely kind throughout our visit. His hospitality made the experience more enjoyable and left a positive impression. The salmon was probably the biggest disappointment. It seemed a bit overcooked, was served slightly cold, and was missing some of the buttery richness we were expecting. The chicken and beef souvlaki were both good and enjoyable, but they weren't particularly memorable. The fish and chips, unfortunately, fell short. The fries weren't very crispy, and the fish itself lacked flavor. Overall, nothing was terrible, but most of the dishes didn't really stand out. The friendly service was appreciated and helped offset some of the shortcomings in the food.
