My first experience here was so terrible that I vowed to never return. Nothing however could keep me from seeing the new Bad Boys movie in its opening weekend and of course, all the other (better) theaters had no seats available to accommodate my party. So, out of nothing other than desperation, I decided to punish myself by going here again. If I can make a suggestion, just one (maybe two): HIRE NEW MANAGEMENT or if management is not the issue then GET A NEW OWNER. RPX is Regal Cinema's new IMAX type theatre experience. I'm not one to pay attention to pixel quality and whatnot but it's pretty amazing especially during the 'Wonder Woman' scenes in Themyscira. But... this place is still as uncomfortable as ever. They advertise reclining seats but the chairs recline about an inch back. I felt like I was in the back row of a United Airlines flight. At over $15 a pop for a ticket I'd expect a little bit more back support. At least their air conditioning seems to be working now. read more

Came on a Saturday night and no one checked our tickets. No recliner seats like every other Regal cinema in our area and there was a loud rattling/ whistling noise coming from the vents in the ceiling during the entire movie. This is an OK Regal location. The consignment line is ALWAYS super long. I think we waited in line well over 20 or 30 minutes and missed all of the previews (thankfully not the beginning of the movie). The line outside to purchase tickets was long. Didn't seem like many people were working on a holiday (Fathers Day). Regal should take advice and have more employees working when there are bound to be numerous consumers. There is nothing special about the setup or decor of this movie theater. It is basic and average. Too bad, because Kingstowne is actually a pretty nice strip mall with lots of great stores and restaurants. read more

Love that this movie theater has still kept original stadium seating. It's great that I can go see a movie last minute and not worry about reserving seats hours ahead of time. The theater seems to be a little short staffed with average length lines for concessions. They have adopted the idea of serving wine and beer at this theater, which is a great plus in addition to fried chicken sandwiches and pretzels. Food options seem to be a step above other theaters. One theater does have reclining seats, and is equipped with a large screen and amazing surround sound. This is the RPX theater, and tickets cost more. The theaters are all very clean, and to my surprise there are no sticky floors in front of the seats. The theater is located in the middle of a shopping center with plenty of amazing food options. Right outside is an Asian restaurant with a good happy hour, Pasara Thai, Panera, johnny rockets and much more. It's a fantastic place to grab dinner before or after the movie. We bought tickets online for a 1:20 showing and once we got inside we were directed to the incorrect theatre. After walking around aimlessly for 10 minutes we found out our movie was nowhere on the schedule. We talked to the manager and then said our movie was unexpectedly rescheduled to a 2:25 showing. After walking around for an hour we came back to be compensated with the option of 2 small drinks or 1 large drink (split between 4 people). Corporate desperately needs to help with this theater's operations. It is in a great location, but appears to have a skeleton crew working. Today, my family went in for summer movie express. Not one employee could be found upon entering. Anyone could've walked in for a free movie. We had no clue where our movie was because there were only employees working concessions and the signage did not work. We finally saw a young lady frantically trying to help people ALONE. We attended the 10:50AM showing of the new Star Wars movie on December 26th. I had bought tickets in advance, but was surprised that there was no one in the box office selling tickets. In the lobby was a self-check machine in for those who already purchase tickets, but it wasn't working. It's obvious that anyone could watch movies free all day. We got in line to buy popcorn. There were two long lines and about 6 people behind the counter. Believe it or not, there was no popcorn to buy. After the movie, when I went to use the closest ladies room to our theater, it was out of order. It's sad to see a movie theater in a thriving area fall into disarray. read more

My husband and I went to see The Batman on release night. We caught a late showing, so the theater wasn't crowded. Unfortunately, the seats we reserved had a partially blocked view. The top row, further seat to the right. The stairs and railing is blocking the bottom of the screen. I think this should be stated when selecting these seats. The audio also sounded kind of muffled during the movie, which was annoying. The building is also pretty old and out dated. The food options are pretty bland and nothing special. This wouldn't be my top theater to visit again, but it wasn't the worst. Just beware of selecting seats in the corner and less than satisfying audio quality. read more

Regal Kingstowne is our go-to movie theater for the boyfriend and I because we live closeby. Although it's older and outdated than other theaters, it does the job and plays pretty much any new release that comes out. The seats are comfortable, the sound system is good, and the temperature is comfortable and doesn't feel like the Artic Thundra like other theaters in this area. There's a variety of snacks to choose from beyond the typical choices of popcorn, nachos, and soda -- such as mini corn dogs, smoothies, ice cream, and so much more. Besides the concession stand, we don't really deal with the employees because we purchase our tickets through the machine. You can also easily find parking outside in any of the surrounding lots or in the garage (free!) with stairs that lead you to the theater. read more

Went to see the new Marvel movie last night in 3D. Guy who checked our tickets didn't give us the 3D glasses so I had to come back out of the theater to ask where they are. He ended up giving me used, oily glasses. The theater smelled like vomit. There was a huge mess of this mysterious powder on the floor as you entered the theater. What a beautiful movie theater! & They offer foreign movies? SCORE! This theater is HUGE, there were like a million snack lines inside, the ceilings were extra high, which gave it the appearance of being even larger than it actually was. The only complaint i have were the seats. They're very uncomfortable and spaced awkwardly. Not very comfortable for a 3 hour movie :( I hope that they upgrade the seats soon, just like all other Cinemas! I guess you could say that i've become a little spoiled with the new theater seats :) They have a self service "butter" bar to the right of the snack lines which is nice, that way you could pour the amount of butter you wish instead of having it drenched sometimes ;) I would suggest that you ask them for a box when you get your popcorn so you cold pour a portion out in the box, drizzle some butter on the bottom portion of your bag, then shake it up, pour the rest of your popcorn back in your bag, drizzle and shake. It works better than trying to drizzle popcorn on the top, shaking, spilling popcorn all over the place and still not getting any butter on the bottom portion of the bag :) We ended up watching Bajirao Mastani, which had sub-titles. The sound system and screens for this theater are fine, and I like the location as it has a number of places to eat or catch a drink before the show, It also runs 3D RPX and IMAX movies which seems to be the hot new thing in cinemas. However, the biggest drawback to this cinema seems to be the smell in some of its theaters. I went to see 'Gravity' today, which may very well end up as a groundbreaking movie for its special effects, but the whole experience was tainted by a musty odor permeating the entire theater. It was as if the carpets and seats hadn't been cleaned in years. 'Gravity's' trailer says that there is no sound or life in space, but someone should tell the managers at Regal that the same goes for odor. Ugh, clean the dusty carpets, Please!!! I like this movie theater because it is close to restaurants and shopping. My expectations are not that high when it comes to watching a movie. I just ask for non threatening/sanitary facilities. I have to admit, this place feels like its in Springfield to me. Sometimes the drive down Van Dorn can be a little hectic. I always park in the outside lot and walk across the street. I prefer to be in an open parking lot instead of a covered one when I am shopping. This theater always has a lot of teenagers surrounding it, but I really expect that at any movie theater in the area. Its seems like this theater attracts people who live close by mostly...which is something that I like. The seating inside the theater is comfortable and does not hurt my back. The staff seem to keep the place pretty clean, and the movie ticket machines inside seem to always work. I hate standing in line for anything. That's all I care about. read more

I love the RPX theaters. Despite having to reserve seats in advance, more than one time I have had to negotiate with others to get my assigned seats though. Also, on my last visit (to see Aquaman) there weren't even ticket checkers - as it seems others noticed as well, hence the full theater even though not full sold out. Management really needs to address this. The theater itself is comfy with plenty of space, and the RPX theaters have built in rumble motors to enhance the action. No complaints about the concessions stand other than the exhorbatent costs...but true of all theaters. Will definitely keep Kingstowne theaters on my rotation. read more

As advertised, Screen X is caught my eyes and I really wanna experienced it. I drove from MD to watch Maleficent just to see 270* screen X, but I was so disappointed. This is the worst movie experience I've ever had. For how expensive this was, it was not at all worth it. The floors in the theater are so dirty that you can feel your shoe trying to unstick itself from the floor. The food is okay but the line was so extensive and busy, with only two workers on the job. The manager came out for about five minutes and then left. Badly kept. And we waited twenty five minutes past the movie time just for the trailers to start. The movie itself was great but this is not a cinematic review. They need to clean their floors. There was trash everywhere and the counters were filthy. Almost all of the drinks were not available anymore and this was an early afternoon show. We waited in line for about 45 minutes and both lines were not moving at a quick pace. We were lucky we got there an hour and a half early, because every line you encounter had a hefty wait. By the time we were out of the snack line, it's already quarter til the alleged movie time (because the movie started so much later than it had said) apparently they are under new management, but regardless you need to get it together. I usually go during early afternoon or evening and never found it too busy here. The screens are kind of small compared to other theaters just as the sound could be improved too. Also the seats seem to be a little narrow. So for watching a movie that is not a huge blockbuster right after its release this theater is adequate. read more

This is definitely not my preferred Alexandria theater. Most times, I go to Hoffman, though I'm sure if I still lived within walking distance, it would be different a different story. DRAWBACKS: 1. If you don't print your tickets online, you have to buy tickets outside. This can be a huge B, especially in the winter. Trust me. 2. The seating isn't the best for someone as short as me. I actually have to worry about who sits in front of me because the seats aren't as elevated. 3. Even when it first opened, it just felt old and kinda gross. Maybe they were going for the retro look, but I don't like it one bit. ADVANTAGES: 1. A parking garage right under the theater. 2. You can buy tickets via Fandango and print them out, so you don't have to stand in line. (The Hoffman doesn't allow that for some reason. So, when I get those awesome Living Social deals where you only have to pay $9 for 2 tickets via Fandango, this theater saves the day.) Sorry Regal Kingstowne, you'll always be my backup. You certainly get what you pay for. I paid top-dollar to see Gravity 3D in RPX format and it was like whoa. Now maybe it was the movie, but maybe it wasn't. I went to the last show on a Monday night so it was basically me, 3-4 nerds, and a small family. Now that is how you go to the movies if you want peace and quiet and an awesome parking space! For those unaware, RPX 3D is the auditorium to be in. Yeah it costs more but it is well worth it. Fresh and new leather chairs that recline more than normal chairs and a pretty big freaking screen. I have been to true IMAX so don't get your hopes up. RPX screens are still less than half the size of a true IMAX screen. But they are definitely bigger than 95% of the regular screens out there. Sound system is also sick. Can't really comment on the food but the bathrooms were clean and they flush by themselves if that helps. Overall, I only go to the movies these days for epic movies. This year I have only seen Man of Steel and Gravity 3D. No regrets! read more

Maybe I am super spoiled from all the reclining, reserved seats at most movie theaters I frequent but this experience was just not up to par. We came here for a Saturday night movie after dining nearby and had no trouble getting seats about 15 minutes before our movie. It probably helps only 10 people period were in our movie! The seats were super uncomfortable-even Gallery Place is better, which is saying a lot. Definitely buy tickets in advance to avoid the long lines outside. Parking is available I'm either the garage or surrounding lots. There are snacks and alcohol I believe too. I remember when this theater was brand new. I haven't visited it in years as I live in another area with a theater close by. I bought my ticket online, not a seat, just a ticket. I arrived at the theater ready to show my digital wallet to a ticket taker or security person. I saw no one at all. I walked the entire way to the theater, around the corner, to theater 5. Still saw no one. I don't know if it was the time of day or what, but, there should be someone at the concession stand at least. The women's restroom on the main walkway towards theater 5 needs to be remodeled. The wallpaper has been up there for a long, long time. The first stall has wallpaper coming off of it. There were no seat covers in any of the stalls. I didn't see any in the main part of the restroom either. The restroom was clean though. The seats need to be upgraded to recliners, PLEASE. Stadium seating isn't good for anyone's back. They are SO uncomfortable. It was clean in the theater and the movie started on time. It wasn't cold in the theater. It was just uncomfortable seating. I'd only give them a ONE star...but since the Johnny Rocket next door had a deal for $7.50 tickets with a meal...that's an extra star. First off...we parked behind the theater in the covered lot. My buddie and I walked up the wrong stairwell and it was a dead end covered with 2 MAGNUM condom packets and 2 used condoms in the corner! WTFFFF!!! Wrong way indeed!!!! That was hella gross! Ok....we went to see Jonah Hex. The theater area smelled like wet dog. The concession lines were full and long due to Toy Story 3 and the kids and parents. We got in the shortest line....slick move huh? NO! This teen must of been a NEWB. She took forever. They advertised a drink and 5-mini hot dogs. NO...they didn't have that. So I ended up with a Coke Zero and a regular hot dog. Did she go boil or grill the hot dog for me? Cuz that shizzle took forever!!! The movie started on time...but sorry...technical error...the projector had to be rebooted and restarted. Not a good experience. This theater is ok. Its not my theater of choice in the area (Hoffmans) but I see a flick here every once in awhile when it has the more convenient showtimes or I'm down in Kingstowne for other things. It always seems to have kind of a deserted feel to it, and its not exactly one of those cavernous silver screen meccas. Most of my visits have been on a weekend afternoon, and while there is usually a small line at the box office, inside there just doesn't seem to be that many people when I'm here. Never any trouble getting a parking space in the free garage underneath (even on a weekend), a few in line at the concession (which has outrageous prices like every other cineplex), always been able to get choice seats in the theater itself. The last Regal cinema I went to was Ballston (which I stopped going to years ago because it was beyond showing its age). The theaters here are nice, but not spectacular. Have seen shows in at least 1/2 the theaters and so far no "god, never seeing something in there again". All have good stadium seats, decent screen sizes (but so far none that blew me away), and good sound. At what tickets and concessions cost today, you could do far worst in the area to see a film. With a wide variety of dining options in the immediate area, this is a good candidate for a nice casual dinner and a movie outing. read more

This theater has gone down hill completely in the past 5 years. Overall, the theater is filthy. Yesterday at 8 pm, we attempted to go out to enjoy Knives Out and encountered a horrific experience! Only one person was available for ticket sales. Popcorn and trash could be seen throughout the front lobby. As usual I waited over 20 minutes in line (only 6 people in front of me) and nothing except popcorn was available for purchase - water bottles were not even available for purchase! Moving to the conditions of the bathrooms. Three of eight stalls were broken and trash covered the floor. The theater hall smelled terrible and the air was stifling. Again trash covered the theater. I am completely disgusted with this theater and do not plan to patronize ever again. Yelp community please share your experience about this theater. My thought is that this should be shut down until a better management team can change how this theater operates! I wanted to share the response Regal sent to me on 12/6/2019. My Wife & I loved it. I would say the concession stand area is a little outdated but It doesn't ruin the experience of watching great movies. They now have limited showing with recliner seats!!!! A must have in today's cinema experience. Plenty of places to eat around. Including Chipotle, Cava, Firehouse Subs, and many more choices! Great place for a family or date. I wasn't going to complain but after the poor attitude of your employee Tyna I am. We were at the 420 pm Lightyear show and they kept having issues with the projection working. I wasn't mad as hey it happens. So they moved us to the 450 viewing but asked us to stop by the front on the way to the new theater to get our tickets transferred. So we go up there and there are like 10 teenagers working behind the counter but none seem to know what they are doing. Still not upset. Hey it's hard to find good people today. Off to the left is a guy and girl and the girl is just standing there by a register just looking like she's pissed or something. Finally I ask the ten kids behind the counter who we go to to get the new tickets and they point to Ms Happiness and her friend. We go over. She says nothing. We had to speak first and say hi we are here for the new tickets. Still not in a bad mood and ask about the next show and she just refuses to talk. Just looks at us with an attitude. Finally her coworker answers because he's as uncomfortable as us and trying to play off her attitude at what we don't know. She NEVER spoke a word. We had to ask questions on what they needed from us and where the next show was located and she took our tickets and all but didn't answer. Her coworker did. It was like she was mute or refused to talk to us. THAT is when I got irritated by the whole thing and learned why that theater is always empty. I will not be going back as we planned to in July for the minions. Will go to Springfield mall. Or better yet NO regal theater.
