Came here in the middle of the day on a Friday, hence my amazing seats in the theatre and barely any patrons there. Somehow we didn't time out lunch at Five Guys burgers out front so we arrived about an hour early. Bought our tickets at the automated machines, which is very convenient. What to do, what to do... Guitar Hero. We spent the next hour and $1.00 per game (so expensive!) on competing with fake guitars. This really made the time fly by and also helped me brush up on my "Sabotage" by the Beastie Boys lyrics. Thank you Thornton Place! I digress. The seats inside the theatre were very nice. They leaned back far and were well padded. Also, the concession stand was open, fast and incredibly pricey, per the usual. I paid $5.75 for a bottle of water. It wasn't even a big bottle either. For that they get minus 2 stars. Boo for charging so much for water. You should be ashamed. read more

This is your run of the mill Regal Cinema. It's nicer than the one downtown. It's huge. 4 or 5 floors. Staff are always really friendly and pretty accommodating if you want to switch shows, even while previews are happening. The negatives you ask? You can't put your own butter or salt on popcorn and it's freaking cold in there all the time! read more

Update #2 Seats are adjusted where the vertically challenged, such as myself, can still see the screen even when Shaq's long lost brother comes to sit in front of you... Update... Harry Potter, meh, large popcorn and 2 med drinks for $17.50, OMFG!! Plus $10 bux a head, just for the "regular" screen???!?! I'm joining Netflicks.... ---- As others have mention about the "Imax" I'll confess, it did bother me to pay twice as much to see a very "tall" movie at this place. It was opening weekend and the family hit this place up for one of the first showings of Night in the Museum 2, don't get me started on that review... Free popcorn and drinks during that opening weekend, it was a true test on the bladder 32oz and a hour plus movie...ugh...tasty popcorn and fizzy drinks, who can complain... Very tall screens, perfect seats, plenty of leg room, yes, even short people like more leg room...my butt was well rested, those seats were uber comfy...sound system ROCKED!! I SAY ROCKED!! Because my eardrums were still ROCK'N on the way out and down the road a piece. Restrooms were handy and close by the exit, it wasn't that busy so it's hard to say if there were enough stalls to handle a big rush of people. It was nice to visit a new theater, but for those prices, I might have to rent a few DVD's and stay at home... read more

I've finally reached my breaking point with the Regal Thornton Place. We had tickets to the Rifftrax Live showing last night. When we talked into the theater at 7:30pm, there was a giant Dish HD logo on the screen instead of the trivia & music pre-show. That's a huge problem, especially when you're paying extra money for admission to view that. I went to Guest Services and spoke with Anthony, letting him know what was happening. He let out an exasperated sigh and with an irritated look, he said "Look, it just hasn't finished airing on the East Coast and that's why there's no pre-show". I politely corrected him and let him know that the Rifftrax Live event had finished airing on the East Coast over an hour prior. Oh, and the pre-show? That's not filmed live. It's filmed and captured long before the event, and provided to theaters separately as a lead-in to the event. Anthony's deep exasperation continued. He said he'd check, but he didn't expect he could do anything about it. Bang-up customer service. He clearly didn't care about my concerns, and acted like he was put out by my simple request. A few minutes after I got back to my seat, the Dish HD logo was replaced with... a Windows XP desktop. It sat there until the Rifftrax Live screening started, robbing us entirely of the pre-show. Viewing movies at the Regal Thornton Place is always a hit-or-miss experience. I go here because it's close to my apartment, but I always expect a lower standard than most other movie theaters in the area. The concessions are particularly overpriced, and the moviegoing experience once you're in the theater is poor at best. But when you're paying extra for an event, you shouldn't have to settle for a substandard experience. And frankly, there's no excuse for poor customer service. Thanks anyway Regal. You've given me such a bad experience that I'm now willing to drive further away just to be treated right. read more

I can have my cat in my lap at home. I can pause the film. I can eat whatever I want. I haven't been in a movie theater since Million Dollar Baby was still showing. Now I know why. read more

LIEMAX I didn't actually go to an "IMAX" movie here (because I knew better), but it is very important people know this is a "LIEMAX". I dont want to blame regal for it (it seems Regal and Lowes wanted to call it something else but IMAX wanted to keep it that way). So if you want a bigass awesome IMAX movie, to PacSci you go. The theater is big and like you'd expect from a medium quality mega-plex. The reason I'm writing about the place is the iMax. Not...an...iMax. It's an average size screen with standard seating. Nothing like we've come to expect. But 31 bucks for two I can't justify. It's true, better sound, better picture but it's a bit of lie. It's licensed by iMax but quoting the manager... "It's one of the smallest iMax screens available. So I would save the additional 50% of the cost so you could have a drink! read more

This theater is decent enough, but the selection of movies is too mainstream for it to be really great. What do you expect -- it's near a mall. It is kind of nice that there is free parking and an IMAX, though, and being close to where I live doesn't hurt. We saw Avatar on the IMAX and it was pretty cool. It is sort of freaky that someone decided to develop this particular complex using some variant of New Urbanism yet it's just floating in a sea of parking lots. When you are in the middle, if you squint hard you might feel like you are on a city street, with street level restaurants and condos/apartments above, but there is only one block of it and it's eerily clean and sterile. After seeing a movie on a Thursday night, we were one of the few people on the "street" outside and we felt like we were on an abandoned film set. But that's neither here nor there, really, and doesn't affect my rating. I would give it a higher rating if they took more chances with programming. If you have 14 theaters you could play something interesting in a couple of them, no? read more

I am a HUGE fan of this theater. The most comfortable seating in a theater that I have ever experienced. I like how the levels are situated and the concession areas on each floor minimize the lines, thus making it a cinch to get your goodies and hop into the movie! Tickets are your usual $10.50 a pop, with a student being $10 I believe (look out for that huge discount!! lol)... Great theater, although not the easiest to find if you haven't been there before. It is kind of hidden in an awkward location, just keep searching! you will find it! read more

The megaplex on the Northside. This is one of my options when I want to see something with loads of special fx, don't mind driving and don't want to deal with paying for parking. Very new faciility with loads of parking right next door or in the structure. Its located in sort of an odd complex of condos and restaurant space next to Northgate mall and caters to primarily the hollywood blockbusters stuff. Prices here are slightly cheaper then say Lincoln Square in Bellevue but have similar features. Stadium seating is standard and they also have IMAX movies. Yeah, other stuff like food is pretty pricey but thats why you sneak stuff in right? read more

Stephen J. and I snagged $2 "Coraline" tickets on a Wednesday evening, during the Regal Cinemas pre-opening special. Since Regal is between my work and home I bought tickets a couple hours before the show, the smartest move I made all day (the movie sold out). Not sure where to park and not wanting to get stuck in a theater garage between film showings, I parked across the street at JC Penney (shh, please don't call the mall cops on me). Walking around the building I eventually ran into the ticket counter, though the lack of obvious signage was a bit of a nuisance. My ticket order was very fast, ordering and receiving in a couple minutes. When we returned to Regal for the show, we made our way through a zoo of people waiting to buy tickets, and met a friendly employee who took our tickets and directed us to the appropriate theater. We were early but not early enough. Upon entry there were upper or lower seating sections. All the upper seats were filled so we had to select seats in the lower section, third row. When Stephen asked what I wanted from concessions, I looked at the toddler to my left, the elementary school-aged kids to my right, then looked back at him and said, "Bourbon." Well, not only did Regal not have bourbon that evening but there was no candy, either. I don't eat much of it any more, which is why I like to have some Jr Mints every blue moon when I go to the movies. Bummer. The movie, viewed with craned necks and 3-D glasses, was great. Stephen is a long-time Neil Gaiman fan and I can see why. Upon exit I noticed the rows behind us in the lower section did not seem significantly higher up than ours. I wondered if necks might be sore in those who do not arrive early enough to sit in the upper section. The place seemed clean, but the lobby carpeting and general decor wasn't spectacular. I did appreciate employees' pleasantries as well as the convenient location, and I really didn't need the candy, anyway. read more

I like it. It is fairly clean and the seats are comfortable. The ticket prices are the same as at any other giant movie theater complex. The food is severely over priced, again same as evey other movie theater. One thing that they should really try to improve on is making designated space for lineups before a movie. If it is a film that just came out, people will come early to score good seats. Since there is no sign saying 'Line for X starts here' there is a lot of confusion and exit blocking happening. Definitely a fire hazard. Aside that one thing, I am happy to come back here. read more

Although I've about had my fill of "Mega Plex", big chain theaters it's really kind of nice to have a new place to see movies in North Seattle, since before now the only thing we had going for us was the skanky Oaktree (which to be fair isn't all THAT bad). Thorton Place almost gets three stars just for the ample, and free, underground parking which is a nice perk for rainy Seattle and beats the HELL out of the $9.00 I almost always drop at Pacific Place or Meridian. The rest of this theater is standard issue for a monster Regal Cinema: Tons of screens...check. Overpriced concessions....check. Big-budget, overwrought studio movies...check. Still, like any others in the chain, Thornton Place runs a tight ship and it's relatively effortless to see a flick, which I'd expect. Thornton Place also has one more notable feature: the bathrooms sport the second most powerful hand-dryers I've ever experienced, almost as good as the Dyson Airblades at AMC Southcenter 16, the undisputed sanitary champ! One feature I wasn't blown away by was the IMAX, it's a surprisingly small screen for what you're paying for, especially if you're spoiled by Pacific Science Center's mammoth vista. The seats in Thornton's IMAX were AMAZING though! These chairs are really comfy and roomy, feature up/down cup-holding armrests, and sport plenty of space for other patrons to sneak by without requiring you to stand up to let them pass, which frankly trumps most theaters in Seattle any day. read more

Worst movie experience I have ever had at a cinema, as far as I can remember! We bought tickets for 2:15 show, we went in early to get seat and there was no sound for the commercial. Not only that, as they started to play preview, it just went out! No picture, no sound, nothing! It's 2:30 now and I'm still waiting! Not only did they managed to cut sounds, cut video, they managed to do that multiple times!!! I think it went out, came back, for like 3 or 4 times. Besides, i thought this cinema is relatively new?!?! How come it doesn't look like it? Or is it the design? Those two cinemas in downtown Seattle looks way more modern while they are like 10+ years old! Also, maybe it was just me, or they didn't have sufficient signs telling people where cinema #8 is. I thought we were at the first level, looked around, didn't see any signs whatsoever, and guessed the #8 was upstairs. It's could be the last time I am here! read more

I don't usually like to go pay for movies full price but I actually do enjoy coming here since it's so close to my apartment. This theater is really nice with multiple floors. Really comfy seats and good for even petite people like me to be able to see if someone is sitting right in front of me. (yay!) They play a lot of the mainstream movies so you wouldn't find a lot of indie films playing here. The bathrooms are usually clean with plenty of stalls. You have to drive around the theater to find the parking garage. It can get a little confusing and I have often found myself lost in the sea of parked cars. Just remember which floor you're on, the spot location, and the closest stairs/elevators to get to the main floor! Ok easier said than done.... They do have an option of watching movies with the IMAX screen but honestly it's really not worth it. You're basically paying almost double for a taller screen, and watching movies with the regular screen is already $11.50 per person. However they do offer free refills on popcorn which is nice. I'll try to stick to my usual free movie screenings that sometimes play in this theater, which is WAY more worth it. read more

I love this theatre because: 1. It's Regal. I'm biased toward Regal theatres because I can use my Regal club card and earn points. 2. If you're a student, you can get student discount prices! (Unlike AMC) 3. Stadium seating! 4. Leather seats. 5. Arm rests go up. 6. Lots of screens so never a full house, and never have to scramble to get a good seat. I've been logging a lot of miles here lately trying to get in as many movies-in-a-theater as I can before this baby drops. I'd prove it to you whenever the Windows Phone Yelp app add's check-ins to the functionality!! But I digress.... I can say that this is definitely my favorite place to watch a movie these days! The theaters themselves are comfy, with plushy chairs and big armrests. Also, restrooms are just outside the theaters themselves rather than in the lobby areas (a very important feature for a woman 38-weeks pregnant). Parking is abundant, either in the garage, on the "streets" around Thornton Place, or in the lots nearby, you are never really hard-pressed for a spot. And what business is NOT helped by a Five Guys burger next door?! Makes me kinda sad to think I'll take a hiatus from this spot once the baby comes. But I suppose I'll be well entertained and preoccupied at home for awhile! read more

We went to their $2 showing of The Dark Knight last night (first day open I think) and it was a great experience. It was playing on the IMAX screen but it is not actually the full size screen that you would see at the Pacific Science Center (thus some people call it LIEMAX). The screen was still curved and the seating was great, even close to the front the view was good. The seats are super-comfy and I like that the armrests can be put up in case you want to snuggle with your date or just sprawl out. It was very busy but the employees were all friendly and helpful, no one seemed stressed out. Our entire group was pleased with the experience. Right now I rate it a hit and I plan to return! read more

One of the worst. Who designed this place? Tiny IMAX theatre so we had no choice but to sit on the far side up front, why do they even have seats that close? Watched everyone struggling to get the stuck cup holder/arm rest down. Stale popcorn. Seriously disgusting. Why aren't they following the lead of other theaters and at least letting people put their own butter on? And why don't they show the sizes or the price of popcorn?!? The worst, most painful 3D glasses. Bathrooms have the hand dryers above the sink so there is a constant traffic jam. And why are they out of soap by 5:30 on a Saturday? Getting ready to leave? Another traffic jam trying to get out. Whoever designed this place needs to get a new profession. read more

I seriously felt like I was taking an escalator to my doom. I took the kidlet to see "Up" tonight. I figured, hey, late in its lifespan, not many people will be there to complain about my three year old at a kids movie, awesome Friday night! Bleh. An usher came in during the preview to the previews, you know, those crappy ads that play before anything of interest comes on? I suspect he was checking for sneaky kids or something. Instead, I guess to just exert his superiority to me, he tells me to keep my kid quiet or we're gonna have to leave. *looks around* Uh, we were the only ones in there and we were speaking at a normal volume (ironically the subject was about how a movie was going to come on and we needed to be library quiet.) Needless to say, I wanted to shove his mini light saber pointing device *ahem* yeeeea. The layout was just insane. I've been in theaters with that kind of concept before but it was executed in a much more coherent fashion. Concessions were more expensive than I was used to as well, and the ticket prices, well, I guess they gotta pay for it somehow. The inside was super plush though, the seats were comfy and after the usher finally left us alone we had a good time watching the movie. I'll come here again just because the parking is free and close to friends houses, but I'll make sure to save up before I do. I might have to use part of my college fund next time! read more

My last visit was for a Sunday matinee. After purchasing the tickets we were greeted at the door and asked to open our purses for inspection. Nice way to be greeted after just paying $9.75. At the concession stand the only prices listed were on the overhead electronic sign which kept switching to different food and candy advertisements. Combos were shown but with no prices shown. This makes it difficult to choose what combo you want before reaching a cashier. Once we made it up to a cashier i had to ask the combo prices which the cashier had to pull up on her register. I guess it is hard for her to memorize the combo prices since they aren't posted anywhere. The theater was clean but two of the bathroom stalls were empty of toilet paper. I live in West Seattle and have tons of Theaters all around me. Still - I'm willing to drive all the way up to Northgate because I like this theater complex so much. The chairs are comfortable. If you're on a date, the armrests raise up facilitating cuddling. The quality of sound of projection is relatively high compared to many of the older theaters. The only downside seems to be prevalent in most new theaters - the cost of concessions. Seriously - offer a smaller soda and popcorn for less money. Most of us don't need a gallon of sugar water to finish a movie. read more

This place is LIEMAX, not IMAX. It is a standard screen size that they call IMAX. Don't buy into it. You pay more for the same. Given that they don't care at all about stealing from you this way, I'd advocate not going there, period. Should you want a real IMAX experience, go to the Pacific Science Center. This is just a generic bad American threatre with the same old unimaginative crap food. Their natchos are prepackaged terrible crap. The management is nowhere to be seen also. So Bad!!! We purchased tickets on Fandango for a movie recently. Arriving more than 30 minutes before the show, the theater was completely full, and about 10 people, including us, had to received refunds. Thornton Place is a poorly run business for selling tickets to sold-out shows every weekend. IMAX is not real; no differentiation on the small IMAX screen. The experience is good, but not worth $18. The management had no explanation for why they had oversold the show. They would not refund the Fandango fee, claiming Fandango does not do refunds. Yet the Fandango site has clear branding about "buy tickets online so you don't miss the show". The evening was ruined, having to take time to go to a movie we could not see. read more

Hellaciously loud! During the previews, the volume was turned suddenly way up. After several previews I and others went out to the manager to say there was something wrong. The manager sent someone to check on the theater. As we approached the theater, that person said "wow that's loud". I went back in a sat down. You know what happened then? Nothing. The movie started, maybe it was at volume 10 instead of 11, but it was hard to tell at that point. I had to tear up a napkin to stuff my ears. Don't go to this theater. It will ruin your movie experience. It's more expensive than the other IMAX's and not managed well. read more

The seats are fairly comfy and you got quite a nice bit of space for leg room. (The rows are spaced farther than the Regal Alderwood 7.) Just pray that you don't have people or children who like to kick seats in front of them sitting right behind you, because you're not just going to hear the thump - your seats might rock a little if they hit it hard enough. Outside of the actual rooms themselves, you'll find that you'll either (a) get a lot of exercise walking up and down stairs, because, hey, you know you want to burn off that butter intake from popcorn overload or (b) get tired of all those escalator rides... You might also have fun sliding down the stairway railings. The hallways are narrow and may start getting rather crowded when there's more than one highly anticipated movie for the weekend. (It really should have been at least twice as wide as what they have.) I haven't seen the IMAX yet, so I can't really speak for it... Unfortunately for theatre staff, moviegoers are moviegoers are moviegoers.. People still leave some of their trash, even if big bins are wheeled in... and popcorn holders are not immune to spills. It's a nice new place to go to and their opening promotions have really helped them a lot. read more

This has become our choice movie theater in Seattle. Even though I have been an AMC fan forever, for some reason the AMCs in Seattle (specifically the Pacific Place location) do not play all of the new movies that come out which is really strange, so I found this place! The theater is super new and nice. There is simple, free parking in a parking garage below the theater so you never have to walk outside in the open, which in Seattle is perfect! I LOVE that you have so many ticketing options - I don't have to hope one of the credit card machines work, or worry about printing something out and remembering it on the way out of the house, I just take my phone and voila! I'm in :). The seating is also great - stadium seating in comfortable chairs. I would prefer if they had more food options available - you definitely have to eat before you come here unless you want to eat candy and other crap lol. Providing a bunch more food options is a new movie theater trend - I'd like if they could add that. Obviously this is not a deal breaker, but just what would give them that final star! read more

Went here to watch Transformers 4 in the AM for $9.50. Pros: -Ample parking and it's free. -Pretty large theater with stadium seating and not too crowded in the morning. -Closest theater to U-District that showed Transformers (without having to drive into downtown) Cons: -$9.50 for a morning showing versus $7 at AMC (seriously can't beat this price, even with a movie voucher). Will return here for future showings since it's the closest theater to me... read more

I should have listened to Peter about the IMAX in Thornton Place not being a true IMAX- but I never listen to anyone so chances were slim that I would have started yesterday. It's not an IMAX- It's nice and big and the seats are comfortable and the sound kills it- but if you're going to charge me IMAX prices, you better show me a freakin' IMAX. I will tell you this- the place is super nice now- but there are going to be major problems down the road. Buying tickets, getting in and getting out is going to be a PITA once people start realizing this theatre is here. The way the tickets are taken at the front door is going to bottle neck all the people trying to get in...ever run late for a movie and gotten cranky at the people slowing you up? Yeah, I can see myself yelling at Skippy the ticket taker some day in my not too distant future because he's making me miss the previews. It's a really weird layout overall- it feels more like you're in a hotel than a theatre and that's not necessarily a good thing. It feels kind of closed in...and that's with hardly anyone there, I can imagine this place feeling very claustrophobic once it starts getting packed. And the parking is weird too- one way in, one way out- feels like an apartment building complex garage. I can't even imagine what the wait will be like once there's a bunch of people parked under there- it'll be like trying to get out of The Gorge parking lot- I'll have to pack my mini grill for the tailgating party after Transformers 2. Overall, I'm thrilled that there's another option for flicks in the neighborhood other than Oak Tree- I can see myself hitting this theatre on a pretty regular basis in the beginning- but I bet I end up back at Oak Tree before too long because of the parking and ease of use issues. I hope I'm wrong because I realllly want to like this place. So here's hoping that I'm wrong, that Regal will nip the problems in their respective buds, not charge so much for their MINI-MAX, and the world can go on spinning in perfect cinematic harmony...after all, that happens all the time, right? I watch movies here probably once a month. I saw the latest Hobbit movie on Thursday. I like that there's a 5 Guys and other food options right on the same property. There was a line to get seated for the Hobbit when I arrived with my girlfriend at 6:15pm (The movie didn't start until 7pm). I didn't like that there wasn't a sign or anyone to tell you what movie the line was for. Around 6:30pm we were allowed to get our seats. The popcorn and drinks aren't too expensive compared to Oak Tree, CInerama or other theaters downtown. But I like that if you buy a combo, you get discounts on candy. read more

It's been a long time since I've been to the movie theater because I get annoyed with cell phones going off and people talking throughout a movie, uncomfortable seats etc... Pleasant surprise when we showed up and before entering was asked by the ushers to turn the volume on the phones off and to not use them during the movie or they will be taken away. Even though that seems to be common sense it was nice to know that others will be told cuz let's face it most people need to be told or they just won't get it. Seats: Big comfortable seats with arm rests that can be moved up to be completely out of the way for couples to sit-spoon. Ordered the #2 Two medium drinks and a large popcorn for $18 seems reasonable considering the medium drinks are huge (32oz) and the large popcorn is more than enough to be finished. Had a great time and will go back again for another movie. read more

We came here for a few movie events this year. It's chain theaters and it's brand new. The seats have to be the most comfy in Seattle. Surrounded by restaurants for dinner before the movie. Whats great about yelp movie events?... they are FREE. We enter first for premium seating. And we always get our own row. You see your Elite buddies and it's always a good time. When it's cold outside. This is a great place to enjoy a warm comfy movie. Just pick a good movie.. read more

Great theater. VERY expensive, but worth it. Beware the IMAX dlp promise as this isn't really true full fledged IMAX but a truncated/video projector version of it (still pretty good though). You might consider going to the Seattle Center for the real thing if you're interested in IMAX. Came here last Thursday for a pre-screening for Big Hero 6. The staff was very friendly. Concessions about the same as you would expect from every major franchise theater. The place was clean. The theater comfy, projection was good, sound quality good as well. One thing to note was being a theater built up vs out (if that makes any sense). Sometimes it's common to hear rumbling of bass from a next door theater playing some epic monster flick (or in my case most likely interstellar). However, because the connected theater was beneath us, it was actually shaking our seats kind of like a mini earthquake. It was a little surprising, and nerve wrenching for people like my wife who is deathly afraid of that sort of thing. So just something to keep in mind. Running around 3-4 sets of escalators can be a bit annoying, so we chose to use the elevator especially with our toddler (we were watching a Disney movie okay...). The elevator is VERY VERY slow. Not enough to take away a star or anything, but enough to think "gee, this elevator sucks, I could have climbed a ladder faster than this". Anyway, nice theater, nowhere near my home so not worth a drive for me. But perfectly good option for those who live in the area. Parking in the garage when I showed up was plentifull and free, so that's a plus. read more

I got to the theater at 9:40 for a 10:00pm movie. I literally sat through 40 minutes of ads before the movie finally started at 10:20. This theater is awesome! The seats are great (they are cushy and lean back and the armrests flip up and down), it has stadium style seating so I don't have to look at anyone's head during the movie, the aisles are clean, concessions are great, clean bathrooms, and the screens are large for a standard size theater. The staff is pretty friendly as well, which is sometimes not found at movie theatres. Plus, it has free parking. It also has a beautiful view out its windows of West Seattle. We were there at Sunset and it was great to see outside while heading upstairs. Finally, a good movie theater in North Seattle! read more

Solid theater with plenty of screens showing the latest movies. This theater has nice screens, great seats and good sound - but ickets and concessions are pricey. However, they do have a good selection for the concessions. The theater has plenty of underground parking, or parking is available across the street at the mall. There are a few restaurants within a stones throw if you are hungry before/after a show (Five Guys, Subway, Jewel Box Cafe, Sushi, Thai...) read more
