I've had good experiences here overall across two purchases and one sale. Last summer, I bought a…read moreconvertible that was hard to find here in the DC area, so I had it shipped through the Carmax network from a few states away. I knew going in that I would pay more at Carmax than at some other dealerships, but in the end, the extra cost (the shipping fee plus Carmax just being pricier in general) was worth it. My salesman, Marcus, was super nice and chill. I didn't feel rushed or pressured at all. The sales staff let me take a longer test drive than the normally allowed 20 min, and I appreciated their flexibility. After all, if I'm going to drop thousands of dollars on a vehicle, I need sufficient time to test drive it, visually inspect it, etc. I also appreciate the fact that Marcus and the crew did NOT drill license plate holes in my front bumper (the state my car shipped from does not require a front tag). He knew the car was looking sharp, and he guessed correctly that I would want to avoid drilling holes if possible (I found a magnet solution). He handed me my front tag as well as an order for Carmax tag installation if I changed my mind. That is good customer service. Now to the reason why I don't regret having paid a bit more at Carmax. My car ended up having two issues: an engine emissions issue (check engine alert) that required Carmax to update a couple of parts, and a paint bubble on the rear quarter panel. I'm thankful that I noticed both issues within the 90-day warranty period. For the paint issue, I brought the car back in, a service manager looked at it, and he said right away they'd cover the repair (either through a repair shop of their choosing or of my choosing). Again, I appreciated the flexibility. I was a little surprised they didn't write up paperwork promising to cover the repair, but sure enough, at the designated time, my chosen repair shop called the service manager, and the service manager made the payment. How about that? A handshake deal that came through. But seriously, Carmax, the paperwork route is the better one. Some pro tips: Make an appointment online. Unless it's a slow day like a Monday, do not just stroll in and expect quick service. I made two appointments (for two separate test drives), and a salesman greeted me within minutes of my arrival each time. Another tip: take longer than 20 minutes for your test drive if needed. They are flexible (and they do not ride with you during the test drive). I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 because it's a bit disappointing to have to bring a new (to me) car in twice for repairs, but they did live up to their warranty. I'm also just a tad bitter that they offered me a low price for a trade-in/sale a few years ago, but, hey, I didn't have to take their offer. All in all, I would not hesitate to shop here again. You might pay a bit more, but at least you get a 90-day warranty. Some other local dealerships offer nothing after you drive off the lot. My only other piece of advice (not Carmax-related) is to shop Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) if possible. The particular car I wanted was too old for that kind of certification, so I went the Carmax route. Cheers.

Very disappointed with my experience at the CarMax Gaithersburg location on Shady Grove Road. I…read morecompleted an online appraisal for my vehicle, which had been in an accident, and received an offer of $1,500. Based on that offer, I paid almost $200 to have my car towed to their location. Once I arrived, I was told they needed to perform another appraisal. After reviewing the vehicle, they reduced the offer to only $200. It was very frustrating to spend money towing my car there based on their original offer, only to receive a drastically lower amount. The situation became even more upsetting when they kept my vehicle and promised to have it towed first thing the next morning. Instead, I had to call repeatedly throughout the day before they finally returned it. The manager Justin was sarcastic, and unprofessional. This experience caused me unnecessary stress, wasted my time, and cost me money. I would not recommend this location and encourage others to be cautious before relying on an online appraisal. I felt this was very misleading and unfair. I relied on the online offer in good faith.

I was admittedly worried, given that it seemed to be a small, non-descript dealer tucked in the back of a Rockville industrial park. My worries were 100% unfounded. Gus and his daughter could not have been more patient, more helpful, more "low pressure", and I ended up buying the BMW they listed. One year later, I am beyond pleased with the purchase. The car, which I thought I would drive only a few thousand miles a year during the warm weather months, was thrust into full-time action when my wife and I had a baby and needed a second car. It has been beyond reliable, and perhaps the greatest thing is that Gus keeps an open line of communication with his customers - old and new. He also owns "Southlawn Auto Service", and takes care of his car buyers by ensuring their car keeps running well at far LOWER repair prices than most charge. One text and he is ready to help you with any issue, as he did today for me - one year later - with a trunk issue. I am 50 years old, have purchased vehicles from multiple dealers and can honestly tell you that I would trust this place to buy my own daughter's vehicle when she turns 16! Buy with confidence!!!!!

Intentaron ensuciar a mi familia. TO THE HISPANIC COMMUNITY, PLEASE STOP GOING HERE!! THEY ARE LIARS AND NOT PROFESSIONAL AT ALL!!! If I could leave a review without leaving a star I would. Mr. Car is the worst place to car shop. They take advantage of the Hispanic community making them seem like they have wonderful deals and that no where else they can get an affordable car. They tried to do my family dirty. They made them leave a deposit for a car that wasn't even in their lot. To top it off, they told them their interest rate was one thing and when I came to look at the paper work it was almost doubled. When I went the next day they got super mad we asked for a refund. The Manger Byron Garcia told me to tell my parents and little brother to be more responsible, meanwhile they were right next to me. All because we did not want to go through with the horrible deal they made them. Then after going back and forth they left us upstairs for almost an hour meanwhile the manager and their sales people were in the basement doing God knows what. The manager then came up and told us we can get a refund but we had to pick it up at the Bladensburg location, which made no sense because we clearly went to the Gaithersburg location. After raising my voice Byron Garcia then got even more mad and told me he didn't need to talk to me because the deal was not made with me, but with my parents.
