Unfortunately I was advised from a friend that a $200. up charge was available if my friend wanted to see their loved one being cremated; in addition to other options. Is this honestly a choice that is presented at such a critical time to the families? I'm flabbergasted if this is how families are treated and that this is even an option. From start to finish, Please do not use Regency if you truly love your loved one! I had arrangements pre-arranged for my mom who had cancer. After my mom passed (on a Saturday, 07/18/20), the mortuary did a great job of picking her up and was sensitive to what I was going through, but after that it was all down hill. I was informed that somebody from Regency would be calling me on Monday, that never happened! I contacted them on Tuesday and the woman answered says: I remember seeing the paperwork and this is for a cremation right? I cannot tell you how angry I was because this was pre-arranged and she was to be buried. She says don't worry we won't cremate without a lot of paperwork signed and set's up a time for me to come in. My son, daughter and I went in with the clothes she was to buried in with other items for the casket. We were welcomed by woman dressed in workout tights and long top (extremely unprofessional). Never offered any water or apologize for our loss. She took us into room, said Meagan would be in and closed the door. Meagan was at least 10 minutes late. While waiting for her, I could not locate restroom, so my daughter knocked on door and after, the woman says here is the restroom but we keep doors locked to it because that is where bodies are brought in from. The restroom was "FILTHY"!! Garbage can overflowing with tissue/paper towels and some on the floor. Everything about it was dirty. I had already contacted the graveside and found the soonest they could have burial is on 08/04/20 due to being booked. I am told we are going to have to charge extra because we only hold bodies for 7 days. This was completely out of my control so she agreed to talk to the Director and while she was in there I am sure they had a secret camera/speaker and heard that I placed a call to another mortuary to find out about transferring her (wish I would have followed through), so they ended up waiving the extra fees. I am given papers to sign without them being explained. Asks me what casket and all I want. Now I am getting more and more upset since I had already picked everything out! I am told well the person who pre-arranged is no longer here and now you know why. Why would you ever say something like that to a family who is grieving and could care less that the person is no longer there and is a poor excuse for what happened. We are taken to room where caskets are. Few racks for announcements are empty and told they no longer carry them and none of the electric or light plates had covers and wires were showing. Once we get done, my daughter had to ask, are you going to take the bag with belongings, and the reply was: oh yea I will take now. I commented that I hope it's not misplaced based on what I had already dealt with, and her reply was: It won't be, it will be kept on my desk. Mortuary was to contact Chaplain. I wanted to be sure all was right, so I called him three days later to find out he had not been contacted. I provided pictures and 3 songs for my mom's memorial tribute and I did not receive to review until the morning of the funeral that was being held at 8:30am, which of course I am not checking my email so never had chance to have changed. Now the funeral!! First, if that truly was my mom the makeup artist should be fired. I have a picture of her and the way she was made up was terrible of which I have pictures of that as well. Many guests made comments that they honestly didn't think that was her and had I been alone, I would have checked to be sure it really was her based on what happened because of the cancer. They could not get the system to work to show the memorial slide show so my son (who also was grieving over the loss of his grandmother) had to use his phone to project on the screen. No, mortuary did not offer to reimburse one cent due to failure on their end and not allowing my son to grieve the way he deserved at that moment. I later find out they approached my son prior to the showing and said: Your mom picked three songs and has a lot of pictures, do you think we should just play one song and cut the pictures down? Now the slide show is playing and I realize they did not use all my pictures and the picture I asked to be last (by email) was not added to the end as requested. All 8 of my mom's great grandchildren were there and some very special pictures were not shown. Now after the funeral! I call to find out where my DVD is that I paid for. They proceed to tell me the Director was ordering me a USB instead. Then I am told: I found a card while setting up for another funeral (mind you this was done 3 days later) and think it might belong to you. Really, think???? It has my name on it so it's clear it belongs to me. I finally receive it (OPEN) with the death certificates and USB. The mortuary is supposed to be who helps family through a very difficult time. Because of what I and my family went through I pray this review will help others. Spend the extra money. read more

it's been a year since I needed the services of the funeral home. I needed time to process thing and get things done, I had great service from the home I was visiting from out of state when my husband passed they had to work with my funeral home at home and did a great job and helped me get my death certificates. I was well please with the job they did and the professionalism they show me. I contacted them the day they received my son, I specifically requested that his jewelry sent with him home and when we received him without his jewelry! They added unauthorized charges to my credit card. When I questioned the total, the rep told me it was all for one service (which was not true). She then sent my entire credit card details in an email (which puts my card at risk). I had to ask multiple times for a receipt and when I received it, it clearly showed fees for services I had not asked for nor approved. The director Jeff returned my calls about all of this and listened as well as said he would address, but also said they would refund the unauthorized charges but have to "hold my mothers body for cremation" until it was paid. I paid in full for cremation. The unauthorized charges were not related to cremation. Why would they do that? Horrible to hear those spoken words, so of course I elected to move forward. Needless to say, I felt the sacred experience was now a monetary transaction and I was being strong armed. Who holds up a cremation over unauthorized charges for services not related to the cremation which was paid in full? Not this daughter, but Regency who added the unauthorized charges. I greatly regret choosing Regency Mortuary. I only have one mother and this experience was tragically unprofessional. read more

I attended a funeral there today. It was 82 degrees inside. I brought it to the attention of one of the employees and he said they knew that the air conditioner wasn't working right. I asked when they last changed the air filter. He said he wasn't responsible for maintenance. This is Thursday. They should have called an HVAC company to look at it. There were a dozen elderly ladies in our party who were suffering. read more

I can't say enough about the wonderful care we received from Erica. My beloved husband had been in the hospital for weeks when the doctors called and told me that he was at the "end of life". Of course, I called all our children and they got on planes and came right away. He was still in the hospital when we all met with Erica - she was so very compassionate and caring! She took care of us like we were family. When we got him home from the hospital, he only lived about two hours. Hospice called Regency and I immediately got a call back -- offering to give us as much time as we needed with our Gary. When they came to the house to pick him up, the transport guys were wonderful - so caring and careful with him. When I went to pick up the urn with his ashes, I wasn't met by just an employee -- I was met by the chaplain. We went into a beautiful private room where his ashes were in the urn along with other mementos that contained some of his ashes. The chaplain asked if I wanted him to pray with me -- I did. He said a prayer and then let me snuff out the memorial candle that had been burning. He then carried the urn out to my car and even offered to seat belt it in. It's tough to review a mortuary because you're never going to one under good circumstances. Just writing the review brings back memories and feelings but I'm making the effort because Regency Mortuary really did an exceptional job. Michael is the gentleman that helped us out over the phone when we first called. He was very warm and pleasant and very calming. What really made our experience good, though, was Yanira, the woman that helped us make all the arrangements and deal with all of those very unpleasant details you find yourself faced with after a tragedy. I really can't imagine anyone more genuinely caring and compassionate. Yanira shared her own story with us. She experienced a tragedy herself and that has fueled her desire to help others who are dealing with a death. She's made assisting families her mission in life and I think she's very good at it. All of our loved one's possessions were cared for and returned to us in perfect condition. She arranged for all the paperwork and death certificates and followed up several times to make sure everything was completed. We had to make multiple trips to the funeral home -- not because of anything Regency didn't do. That's just how things turned out. Each time, Yanira was happy to see us and did a wonderful job calming us and really comforting us in this difficult time. She never rushed us or pressured us into ANYTHING. She took her time with us because she could see that we were hurting and needed compassion. This is not just a job to her. We were really treated like part of her own family. We also appreciated that this place has its own cremation facility right on site. We didn't realize that this is not the case for a lot of places in town. Really the only complaint I could give is just a very mild annoyance, nothing big. As pleasant as Michael was to us, he didn't always recognize us from the day or two before. That seemed a little strange to me. When a family was just in a day or two ago and spent hours there, I expected that he would have recognized us the next time, but that wasn't always the case. Again, not a big deal, but that would be the only improvement I'd suggest. All in all, Yanira and everyone else who helped us through this very sad time made the experience as good as it could have been. Still, I hope I never have to use them again ;) read more

I would not use this mortuary. I had made arrangements to have them pick up my deceased husband at the hospital as he had passed away. We had several conversations. The hospital informed me that my husband has passed and had the hospital call Regency to take care of him. I received a call from Regency refusing to take care of my husband leaving me to find another company. I would not recommend. read more

I will never use a place like this. I called to try and get an idea of how much cremation arrangements would be for my 23 week stillborn son. I was obviously still grieving as I was speaking to the man (in no way a gentleman) on the phone, unable to hold back tears. I mention something to him that I was told by the hospital and he LAUGHED at me! I lost my son. How dare you laugh at me. I have never been treated with such a lack of compassion. I just learned the hard way what you can pay with a large conglomerate funeral company. We just paid 7 times more for a basic cremation in another state. I called John Perkins today an he was more than willing to take the time to explain their fees. I strongly suggest talking to them before you need them. Pre plan now. Don't think there isn't major prices differences for the same services. Regency is a father and son business. They still have excellent prices. All I can say is, plan now. Check around for prices before you need them and believe me, you will be happy you did. Regency Mortuary is worthy of your business. John Perkins is a very nice man. read more

I do not recommend this mortuary. It took 15 days to receive my family member's remains and well over three weeks for the death certificate. They may be the cheapest, but you get what you pay for, which in this case is very very slow service. MUCH slower than they tell you. read more

I could never recommend the services of Regency Mortuary, the facility that handled the remains of my mother who was found dead at her home in January 2017 under what appears to be suspicious circumstances. All of her valuables and family heirlooms had been removed from her home by the time I learned of her death from a neighbor who took the initiative to contact me with the indication things did not appear right at her home. I learned the remains of my mother were cremated four days after her body was discovered by Regency Mortuary without notification or discussion with me or any of our many biological family members. Pursuant my inquiry, I was told by an agent of Regency Mortuary the cremation was purportedly authorized by the husband of my mother and/or his daughter and did not provide me with information regarding the whereabouts of her remains. This woman had been estranged from my mother and her husband for many years, has no biological connection to my mother, had spent minimal time around my mother, has a record of abuse, and is a woman whom my mother claimed she did not trust. According to public records, Regency Mortuary is currently owned by John and Phil Perkes. I contacted Phil for additional information and explained that my mother died under suspicious circumstances. I made it very clear that I did not intend to hold Regency Mortuary accountable for the manner in which her remains were handled and that the purpose of my call was to seek information not provided to us. Phil provided me with little information other than to rudely claim Regency Mortuary was covered [legally] after having received authorization to cremate her body. He then abruptly ended the call with the remark that he would not speak with me further and that additional communications would be handled by legal counsel. I question why this Mortuary would hastily cremate her body without qualifying the reason for the urgency for doing so, particularly when there was no announcement, service planned, or communication with biological family members. My mother had lived in the Phoenix Metro area since 1960 and certainly had many friends and family. Why did Phil not consider the manner in which her cremation was ordered as unusual and worthy of further inquiry on his part? I am of the opinion an experienced facility would have recognized the possibility of an agenda and take the initiative to contact a biological family member. A simple Internet search would have revealed that I am her biological daughter along with my contact information. A telephone call offering condolences would have taken little time and effort on his part. I would have been very appreciative and grateful, as would our family, to know of her death prior to cremation. Our hearts will be forever broken over her death and that we were provided no opportunity to pay our last respects. read more

I would give Regency 0 stars if I could. Do yourself a favor and find a reputable funeral home. Have been dealing with Regency cremating my uncle out of state. "Accidentally" cremated all of his belongings and are now refusing to answer our calls or call back. While the belongings may not have been expensive, they were the one piece of my uncle we would have to remember. Wouldn't recommend this company to anyone. I called them twice, more than a week ago, to set up a meeting to pre-plan my funeral. They never returned my call to schedule a meeting.

Please don't give these people your business. Only one person came out to the house to pick up my loved one's body. He couldn't get the gurney in the room, so he left it in the hall and said he would need help carrying the already stiffened body out of the room. My family members agreed to help, but it bothered them to do so. Totally unprofessional. Should have had two guys come out. After talking on the phone to the mortuary and telling them what was needed, I was quoted a package price. Next day at my scheduled appointment, I was shown the coffin included in the package that I was planning to purchase. It was literally made of cardboard. I and my family were appalled. I was told I couldn't just upgrade to a nicer coffin. I would have to upgrade the entire package. This is what I did, even though I didn't need other things offered in the higher package. I wasn't prepared with that much money with me. I had to go to the bank and borrow money from family members, which made me feel terrible. When the day came to bury my loved one, we were told we only had a half hour time slot at the cemetery. Everyone arrived early. Fifteen minutes after it was supposed to have begun, the hearse comes speeding in with the body. There was absolutely no apology. The service was so short because of this. After (as we were taking photos), the guy starts rolling the coffin away and loading it up in the hearse. My family was so upset. He dropped the coffin off around the way, and left. It's too bad that these are the last memories surrounding my loved one who is gone. If you want a company who cares, find another mortuary. read more
