AVOID THIS SHOP - COMPLETE RIP-OFF AND DISHONEST OPERATION! They sneak in a $99 diagnostic fee without ever mentioning it beforehand. When confronted, the woman on the phone had the audacity to flat-out lie, insisting "I already called you and explained the fee." Worse, they totally misdiagnosed my AC problem--recommended an expensive, unnecessary repair that multiple other shops later confirmed was completely wrong. Their quoted prices? Absurdly inflated--often 2-3x higher than legitimate competitors for the same (or actually correct) work. This place is predatory, unprofessional, and dishonest from start to finish. They target people in a bind who need quick AC fixes and don't know to shop around. Bottom line: DO NOT GO HERE. Get quotes from at least 3-4 other shops first. My mom's air conditioner started blowing warm air today. I changed out the thermostat hoping that was the fix. It didn't. Of course it is a holiday weekend of all times. Our ac guy we had found on Yelp retired completely due to illness, so I was searching Yelp. I came across M&R. It was the first company I felt comfortable trying. I got through. His website number wasn't the same as the number I was suppose to text the info to. I thought he wasn't responding, so I started calling around. No one answered, or they couldn't come out for 3 days. I called him again, and I am glad I did. He gave me the correct number to text. Oscar, his tech was at the house in less than 15 minutes. He was done replacing the capacitor in less than 5. My mom really liked him. He really likes his job at M&R and was talking about how thankful he was of the owner he worked for. Great guy. Supposably we have a better capacitor that is more reliable. Looks like a have a new ac guy now. I just noticed I had reviewed him before. We Yelp all the time foe services for our neigh ors and they liked him too. I have a mixed review to leave. I called a few different companies to see if they could help me with my AC issues and most were booked up days in advance. I called M&R and they were able to come out same day. The two technicians that were send out did a wonderful job, and they were able to get me back up and running in a few hours. So as far as their ability to respond quickly and the quality of their work, I find that excellent. What I find shady, is the owner's reluctance to offer the 10% discount that was advertised on Yelp for repairs over $500.00. When the work was done, and I asked about being able to claim my discount, I was told that they didn't do that. This feels very bate and switch to me. I did notice that the owner changed his Yelp page to reflect removing the discount after the fact. I feel like the honorable thing to do would have been to honor the discount and then remove the advertising if that was not what was intended anymore. read more

If you enjoy being price gouged when vulnerable then this company is for you. Otherwise call someone else. The BBB rating is now 3.67 and not 5. I was an Elite member, deleted my account years ago and just signed up 07/23,2023 to write this review. That is how strongly I feel about warning others. This is in reply to the cry baby comments below. He gives a 5 year warranty for a part that has a life expectancy of 10 - 12 years and charges enough to replace it twice. I expect to pay usual and customary charges, not price gouging charges. Business overhead gives him the license to price gouge? The fact that he can't compete is his problem. The fact that other price gougers charge even more than he does makes it alright? The fact that he replies to a customer in this manner should be enough of a red flag to keep anyone from doing business with him. If this warning saves one other person from this abuse, my time, money and effort will be worth it. The best part is he won't even know how many customers pass him over. read more

I scheduled M&R for my mother to support her with an air conditioner problem. Now, I understand it's summer and crazy happens when it comes to air-conditioning problems in Arizona.... However.... The appointment was set between 11-3.... At 4, when we had not heard anything, I text the contact number. We were told they had been delayed but they would be there soon. Personally, I have an issue with having to reach out to contact for an update. I feel it is a professional courtesy to let a client know before time if you will be late if it surpasses AN HOUR. At 5 I called the number with no answer, at 5:30 I called again and received a text that they were unable to answer at the moment and they should be able to be there within the hour. They tech finally showed up between 6 and 6 thirty. The tech was newer, which was not an issue, but he was not as knowledgeable about HVAC as he could have been. He consistently contacted his boss with pictures and questions leaving my mom concerned that the answer they came up with may not be as accurate as it could be. 200 dollars later... They cleaned the coils and told her she would need to fix something for around 1500. Knowing she had another place coming out, she paid and thanked them. Now, I understand that every job has a learning curve, but being 3 hours late is unprofessional and for that I personally feel the service fee should have been waived. But to charge another 100 because the service fee did not cover any type of support other than showing up, is ridiculous. I chose this place based on the reviews...and was floored at what we dealt with based on the high stars. I would not recommend this place and after the second place came out and for less than $100 the air conditioner was fixed and has not had an issue since... I would say M&R is not the type of place I would recommend for an honest moment or reliable service. read more

UPDATE - He didn't register the unit so the compressor wasn't covered under the 5 year warranty. Trying to get this guy to cover his mistake is a waste of time. Don't do business with this crook. I am only writing this because I'm disappointed in Matt. I bought 2 condensers for my walk-in cooler in July 2020 and the compressor failed on one unit on July 2024. It has a 5 year warranty so I called and talked to Stephanie I believe and explained the situation. Now she was pleasant and tried to looked for the warranty registration. After 2 days I finally asked if he had looked into the matter and she stated he told her any company can handle the warranty and that they were overbooked. That they wouldn't be able to come out and service the machines. Pretty sad when someone spends 18.5k with a company and they don't have the common decency to even take a look. I guess my money or business isn't good enough for them. Just be aware if you need warranty work from this company they will probably ghost you. BACKGROUND STORY: After having my a/c go out on Saturday, my tech was busy until Monday, so I called another company (not M&R) for Emergency services, and they showed up (was supposed to be in 1 - 1.5 hrs, but turned into the next morning :-( ). Turns out a fuse had blown, so the tech replaced it. Well, a few hours later, my a/c quit working again :-( . So, I called the company that I used earlier. But, they wanted another Service call fee + an additional fee to find out what the problem was. Needless to say, I told them no. So, I suffered Sat (not too bad), Sun (worse, but tolerable), and on Monday, my regular tech came out and "fixed" the problem. :-) Unfortunately, a little later on, my a/c started blowing warm air. So, I called my guy (19 years in the industry and 14 years of taking care of my a/c), and he came back out. While he couldn't find the exact problem, he got it blowing cold again. 8-) BUT, a little later (after he left of course), it not only started blowing warm air again, it was cycling off-on without reaching the temperature on the thermostat (keep in mind, my place was in the 90s to 102 since Sat. So, on the 3rd visit, my guy was really perplexed as to why it was acting the way it was. And, suggested that I get a new a/c :-( , and it would cost between $5,000 - $7,000.00 :-o :-x . And, I suffered another night without a/c. On Tuesday morning, and after getting a recommendation from my guy (not M&R), I called the guy. But, he couldn't come out until the following morning, with install being either on Fri, or Mon. Yikes! So, I turned to Yelp. :-) Now, Yelp sent my info to 4 different companies, and I heard back from 3 (including M&R) pretty quickly. The one company included by Yelp has a 24 hour reply time. :-o And, imo, should never have been part of the referral process. 1 of the companies wanted more information. And, I provided that. However, they could not get out until late Tuesday night, or 1st thing Wed morning, with the install on Friday. The other company was supposed to show up on Wed morning, but was able to move it up to early Tuesday afternoon. 8-) (I did write a review for them). While this company did have a very competative price, he would not have a portable a/c available until the next morning :-( , with install being within 1 to 3 days (no problem, with a portable a/c unit inside. but, waiting until the next morning for it...). M&R REVIEW STARTS: Well, at about the same time, I get a text from Matthew at M&R (oh-oh, a chance of competitors encountering each other at my place; but they missed each other). So, about 4:00PM, Matthew shows up, he looks around, and gave me an estimate for the new unit (2 yr Part & Labor Warranty, 5 yr Parts Warranty on the Furnace, 10 yr Parts Warranty on the outside Condenser). So, I asked, "When can it be done?" His reply? "Today.". "Say, what?" "Today." "Let's do it!" And, we shook hands. So, on Tuesday, with inside temperatures hitting 107 8-o (I took a lot of cold showers), M & R (Matthew + 2 or 3 other guys) shows up a little before 6:00PM, and worked until 9:42. However, they did not have all the parts to connect the furnace (a/c was up and running! Yes! Thank God, too!). So, they had to come back out the next afternoon, to finish the job. So, On Wed afternoon, a little after 2, Matthew and 1 guy were back to finish the work. YEA!!!! Now, there is, unfortunately, one down side to buying a new a/c from M & R that may deter some people from using them. And, that is, the Finance Company they use. The company DOES NOT offer any good deals (e.g.: 0% for 3 years). It would have been at least 20% APR. :-( So, I thought about paying by c/c, but because c/c companies charge a per transaction fee, 3% would be added to the cost. :-( Now, not only is Matthew and company hardworking and honest (I mean, we did this deal on a hand shake; nothing was signed until the job was done), there one AWESOME thing (actually more than 1 thing ;-) ) about Matthew. I told him, "Now, if needed, I will use the credit card. However, I can pay by check, but I had to sell some stocks, and it may take a few days for the funds to be there. Would you hold the check a few days?" He replied, "Sure. No problem. It saves me the credit card fee, too." 8-) And, he even wrote on the Work Order, "Hold check until Monday". And, this morning (Thursday), I found that the funds were available. So, I sent Matthew a DM through Yelp to let him know that the funds were available. Now, if you want great, and near immediate service, definitely give M&R Refrigeration a try. But, do keep in mind the issue about the cost of getting a new unit. read more

I just had my HVAC system repaired by Carlos at M & R refrigeration. The unit went down last night at 9:00 pm I called the company and was shocked to talked to the owner ( Matthew Coxe). He said he could get someone out the next day which was this morning. Carlos showed up early with the parts he needed and had my air running in about an hour. It amazes me how we take for granted things that keep us comfortable until they break. I have used this company in the past and will continue to use them in the future. This past week and a half, my heat pump was having an issue where it would make a loud noise and stop cooling, but it would work again if I shut it off and turned it back on. This kept happening with increasing frequency, and I called out a different A/C company with great Yelp reviews. The tech they sent out suggested various things that they could repair/service, but they didn't make sense to me in light of the issue/symptoms, and it seemed like he was just going through a checklist looking for work that could be done rather than trying to figure out the actual problem (i.e., imagine if you took your car to a mechanic because the transmission wasn't shifting well, and they told you that your engine oil was low and your coolant was dirty -- good to know, but that has nothing to do with the transmission). The one thing I learned was that my heat pump was 19 years old, so I figured it was just failing completely, and it was time to replace it. Yesterday, I called out a half-dozen companies to provide bids on replacing the unit. Tyler from M&R was the 5th one out in the late afternoon, and he evaluated my system needs and provided me with a competitive bid. But he also did one thing that the other companies hadn't -- he actually listened to me and thought about the symptoms I was describing. As we were parting ways after walking through the replacement options, he suggested that if it were his home, he'd try replacing the run capacitor to see if that did the trick, since a failing capacitor could cause the symptoms I was experiencing. He also suggested replacing the start capacitor while I was at it. I told him that I was familiar with electronics/capacitors, having worked with them before in other applications, and he gave me the name of a local HVAC supply company that stocked them. He told me to feel free to call him if I wanted to hire them to formally diagnose and fix the system and/or have a new system installed. I then got up on the roof, pulled both capacitors, and raced over to the HVAC supply store 10 minutes before they closed. I got back home and replaced both capacitors. Before I replaced the capacitors, the system would cool just fine, but then I'd hear a loud bang/thud every hour or two, and the system would frequently stop cooling after that. At this point, the system has now been running and keeping our place at a steady 72 degrees for the last 16 hours, and it hasn't made a single weird noise, so I'm cautiously optimistic that the issue was really caused by the capacitor, and that the unit can keep working a little longer. I'm going to give it another week or so just to make sure, then call M&R back to schedule a servicing/tune-up. I want to sincerely thank Tyler from M&R Refrigeration for actually listening to me and helping me with this issue! He gave me a reasonable quote to replace the unit, but he also counseled me like a friend who needed his help and gave me honest guidance on the issue. Called M&R Refrigeration for the first time yesterday. Service man Oscar came out the same day, tested the air conditioner unit and blower wheel. The blower wheel motor and fan needed replacing. Service man Daniel came out the next day and did an excellent job replacing the blower. Daniel also checked the air unit with a fine tooth comb. He found a leaky coolant valve. He fixed that and added coolant. Both service men were professional and honest! Thank goodness our house is cool again. We will definitely use M&R Refrigeration again! read more

Aaron showed up on Friday night, troubleshooting why the furnace kept shutting off for limit switch. Couldn't figure it out that night, made it a point to come back and get the job done. He figured it out Saturday morning and had the furnace back and running again. M & R was my 2nd opinion. I'm glad I did that, because the other big name in town came in Thursday night, and told me the flue was clogged causing the stoppage. M&R told me they had the tools to clean the flue but wanted to re-diagnose just in case. 5-10 minutes in, Aaron told me the flue was clear, and he would continue troubleshooting. read more
