I really like the layout and the presentation of this REI. The store is bright and the merchandise is colorful. I've visited this store twice in three days and here are the facts. A. No one ever greeted me upon entry. B. No one ever ask if I needed help or assistance. C. The staff seems friendly but looked right through me on both visits. D. Even on clearance the merchandise is expensive. E. Merchandise does seem to be of good quality. I wish the staff was or could have been more helpful on my visits but they were not. I'm not sure if I'll be visiting this store again. I can find some comparable clothing items at Target at a fraction of the price. read more

I came in to buy a gift for a friends who along with his partner are avid outdoorsy-ers. I got some help from a nice young woman whose name escapes me...Heather maybe? She not only was super nice but helped me pick out a nice gift that I think my friend will use. This store is bigger than the one off of Barrett. It's got everything you need for all of your outdoor pleasure. Apparently they also offer classes as well so if you want to say train for a 10K...well you've come to the right place.... When we came over to the US from Germany seven years ago, this was our go to store. Always good selection of hiking gear. Friendly stuff around. Since a couple of years this is a store to avoid at all costs. No greeting when you enter the store, almost none hiking gear. Just normal clothing for casual times. No one of the employees is willing to talk or help customers, so it seems. Very unfriendly. No more REI for us. read more

It's been awhile since I've been in an REI, and hadn't tried this new, closer location. I had ordered and purchased a bike for my grandson online after confirming the model and color was available over the phone. Within a few hours I got an email confirmation that it had been assembled and was ready for pickup. When we arrived we were promptly served by friendly and helpful staff. And we learned that they even offer classes to teach bike riding, which is cool. This all made the experience worth the premium price. And for the right things, especially where quality and durability is more important than price, REI has delivered. And I have a favorite hat from REI that's a testament to that after many years of use. read more

REI used to just be ridiculously expensive for quality outdoor gear. Now, REI is ridiculously expensive for quality outdoor gear with a few sales that actually matter. This particular REI is no different. Is there ANYthing different at this location? Outside of the layout of the store, and maybe the really cool encased pick axes for door handles? Not really. The quality, the customer service, and now the deals (in my case, 25% off for a pair of REI wool hiking socks) are all here, as they are at every location i've been to. Parking is shared in Mansell Crossing shopping area that holds the likes of Office Depot and Michael's, parking is no problem, and neither is entering/exiting this place with multiple exits along north point parkway. If you're an outdoor lover at all, you've probably been to REI, and if you haven't, well, what are you waiting for? read more

Came in to look at mountain bikes and to ask the "pro" guy some questions about available upgrades to a used mountain bike and was basically told he was too busy to help and had no interest in answering any questions. Amazingly poor display of customer service. Thankful they had no inventory, I'll look for a better experience elsewhere as well as a new option at least for bike purchase and repair. My wife, my dog, and I were in need of hiking gear. Normally we'd go somewhere less specialized, but wanted to get the best so we went to REI. We had set a budget of $1,000 for what we needed. When we arrived and tried to walk in we were stopped by someone who told us that there was a no pets policy, service animals only... not a problem normally. We could have left the dog in the car with the A/C on like we normally do if that policy is in place... rather, the guy went on and said that it's been a policy forever at REI, and I should have known. I asked how he knows what animals are service animals, he said that they have to wear vests... I'm a strong advocate for people to NOT slap a $35 vest with a certificate on it saying "service animal" if they are not in medical need... but this guy needs to understand that, 1) you can't ask someone if an animal is a service animal, and 2) they don't have to wear vests. I feel bad for any people that need their service animal, and get turned away by REI. Rather than go in, we left, drove two doors down to Dicks, and bought the same items we would have at REI. UPDATE: this particular REI doesn't have any verbiage on their business front saying that pets aren't allowed. Get with the times, REI. You don't serve food, so allow well behaved pets. read more

This is for the employees at this REI because the online service was great and remedied the mistakes. I came to exchange a pair of shoes for the exact same shoes in larger size. I requested an exchanged, and the shoes were purchased during a sale. The employees refused a direct exchange, stating company policy, and required I pay the $50 difference in order to get the larger size. This was ridiculous, and I called REI headquarters and their customer service was able to refund me the difference. DO NOT TRUST EMPLOYEES ON EXCHANGES AND REFUNDS. I will not be returning and their employees should educate themselves on the actual company policy. read more

1. There seem to never be any sales associates in the store 2. If there are it is one or two and they avoid making eye contact and definitely do not greet you 3. If you do ask them a question, they don't know the real answer 4. They never have my size. They literally had no running socks in a size 12 as an example. 5. The returns girl (black hair) is downright disrespectful if you ever have to make a return and treats me worse than the returns people at Walmart which I do not appreciate and would not expect from a specialty retailer. read more

Blake and Tara are angels! I received a day pack as a gift and it didn't feel right. I decided to go to REI to get advice on my pack. I walked in having no idea how anything was suppose to fit, look, and feel. They stepped me through all packs and what would work best for me as my old pack was a size too small. Blake spent extra time even applying weight to my packs and allowing me to walk around the store. So thankful I came and was helped from these two, truly so amazing and helpful. Note that I really do like REI. It is the best outdoor chain around, bar none, particularly if you are looking for camping or hiking gear. Also bought a mountain bike from here that I really enjoy. I am leaving the review below, which was originally for one star because I thought it was ridiculous that REI closed when the weather got cold. They should be the one place open :) Old review - Love REI, and this store is actually a good location with apparently knowledgeable people working here. However, it is Saturday the 9th of Dec 2017, and yes it snowed. But the parking lot is open, Home Goods next door is open (as are most stores here) and it is 11 AM... and sunny 31 F. Just needed a pair or gloves for my oldest son who lost one yesterday. And REI is closed "Due to inclement weather" lololol #OptOutside, but I need the things to enable that. I knew going in to this store that it would not be my kind of shopping. Why you'd want to pay quadruple the price for every single item in a store is beyond me. The BF took me in because he had a $25 gift card from a previous purchase so we figured we'd use it. This does not factor into my review. The store is large and largely disorganized. There are sections obviously but the women's section is in several different areas of the store, rather than all together. It is difficult to shop for a specific item as you will find athletic pants, for instance, in 3 different places in the store. God help you if you want to go back and look at an item. Many items had no price at all. Not on a tag attached to the item nor a sign anywhere. Frustrating. What's worse though is they apparently only offer items for larger-sized women. The sizing on every single item of clothing I touched was skewed to be complimentary. I am normally an XS but they (the very few XS items I could even find) actually fit like mediums. This is a very aggravating and unethical practice stores engage in to gain repeat customers. It is called vanity sizing and it is an insult to all women. If a women is an XL she knows she's an XL, she doesn't need you to pat her on the head and tell her she's an XS, the patriarchy makes us mad. Finally though I found a lovely REI down vest, an REI brand undershirt (think Under Armour compression shirt) and a graphic hoodie. All marked size XS but, as I said previously, would fit a medium. Nice looking stuff, that vest has become a staple, I've tried not to wear it ever day but it is super awesome. The quality of the items is unquestionable, all have been worn and washed several times and still look great. Pricing here is absolutely ridiculous. Understandable on the specialty items like climbing gear (quality over cost) but for apparel and miscellaneous items REI is just sticking it to you because they've figured out that enough people will pay the exorbitant prices to keep them in business. The graphic hoodie we paid $69 for? It is available at many other retailers for $29.99-34.99 (including shipping). The REI Undershirt (a knock-off of Under Armour), we could've purchased almost 2 of the brand name and the vest is readily available from many retailers for about 50% less than the REI price. There are NO sales associates on the floor, none. We needed help, traversed the store looking for help, its a ghost town, so if you go be prepared to figure everything out on your own. On a busy Saturday there were 2 cashiers at this odd, crowded checkout station hidden in the corner of the store. There are so many items sitting on the counters there's no room for the crap you're purchasing. The cashiers were in no hurry to move the line along, nor did they waste any time being remotely civil to any customer. For the price I expected much better customer service. One poor guy was trying to return a $300 pair of boots that were unraveling and the cashier actually asked him "what are you doing with these?" "are you using them like you're supposed to?". He actually tried to explain himself to her, you could see him embarrassment at being put on the spot in front of everyone. They're freakin hiking boots, what did the cashier think he was doing with them? Starting fires? Killing bears? Moon landing? He stammered that "so far he'd only walked though the mall". She had the pinched, disapproving look on her face, it was obvious she didn't believe him. I'm pretty sure they lost a customer in him. All said I can't see any reason to return here. I'm sure it is a great place for niche items and quality outdoor gear but thanks to online shopping we are no longer forced to deal with surly employees and exorbitant prices to get what we need. read more

Excellent people work in the repair shop, unfortunately the place is so mismanaged that on June 26 when I came in for a very quick minor tune up, I was told I would be lucky if they could see me in three weeks. This is the peak of bicycling season and they are so understaffed and poorly managed that they can't give decent service to their members. It's like. a grocery store running out of beer the day before the Superbowl! It would be one thing if this was supposed to be a cut-throat competitive store, looking to make a short-term profit, but no, this is theoretically operated on behalf of members. Imagine how someone would feel if they joined the co-op, paid premium prices (prices for everything at REI are high), expecting half-decent service only to find that REI couldn't care less about their membership. So disappointing. If you want anything that REI sells, drive an hour north to the outlets and pay 50% less and if you want a bike or bike parts, go anywhere else. So sad to write this, especially as the people in the bike repair shop are wonderful. read more

A STORE WITH A PURPOSE! Don't even think about coming into this store looking for a cute outfit, (you know who you are), because this is not that kind of store. If you do, you will get the V-8 pop on the back of your head!! This store has a purpose, to help you get fit, to assist you in taking your fitness to the next level, to help you plan your next adventure or find the appropriate fitness gear and accessories. It is a very cool store, very open and easy to negotiate. It is well staffed with super helpful employees ready and willing to answer your questions and provide assistance. Don't forget to visit the community board if you are interested in taking a class, (rock climbing) or learning to prepare for that first 5k. They have something for every person and every interest. Ah REI, how I have grown to love you in the last 7 years. Ever since I moved to Seattle and realized it was dress differently or stay indoors all the time, I have been frequenting REIs. Therefore, REI has become synonymous with the PNW for me and it was with much joy that I witnessed the grand opening of an REI in my new neighborhood. Now, I admit I'm homesick for Seattle a bit. I miss the coffee, my friends, the coffee, my old neighborhood (cap hill!!!), the coffee and shockingly enough, the weather. I was, I admit, a bit hesitant to shop here in an Atlanta suburb. Would it be the same feeling? Would I just be more homesick? Would it feel like a cold, cheap imitation? So, I went in on opening weekend with a bit of trepidation. Friends, it was everything I hoped it would be! Here's what I found: The stuff: They had a lot of what I expected to find in an REI. Yeah, it wasn't as large as the flagship store, duh, but it was pretty well stocked. I think they have done a great job curating the appropriate merchandise for this location and I am always able to find what I need. The people: I didn't know if they'd be able to find cool, laid back, REI people (you know what I mean) here. But, they did! The folks are friendly, approachable, and knowledgeable. They bring you every shoe in every size until you find your perfect fit then tell you that there is a sale next week and that shoe will probably be cheaper then. Just like the awesomeness I came to expect in Seattle. Ahh. The look: Ok, yeah, I know it's not the best reason to shop somewhere, but it's a huge factor in my homesickness cure. This place "looks right". It feels like an REI. It smells like and REI, it has the right door handles, the steel, the wood. It's just, mountain zen, if you know what I mean. So, all in all. If you need gear for ANY sort of outdoor activity this is the best place to go in the Alpharetta area. And, as a bonus, if you, like me, are a lover of REIs, this store will make you very, very, happy. read more

I run a Nonprofit Team Maggie For A Cure, Inc that helps young adults with cancer preserve their fertility so they have a chance of having a family after cancer. I walked in desperate on a Friday needing bags for the fishing tournament fundraiser the next day. I talked to Mark who said he would do his best but he needed time to talk to the marketing department. Well I went from store to store getting turned away. Then I received a call about 20 min after I left Mark that made my day. REI markets saying go to the store the bags will be waiting for you and they were! I love this store! I want to buy everything when I come in here! I feel very rugged as soon as I walk in. It's fun to walk around and see all the different outdoorsy things. The workers are always pleasant. I still have my red jacket I bought over 10 years ago when I was in high school and it has held up better than probably any other jacket I've bought. I bought a bicycle there about 3 weeks ago. I had a bump up and the brake on the front tire was stuck and tire would not turn properly. Today I took it in to have the brake adjusted. They said they were busy and it would be 4 weeks before they could look at at it. So we left. When we bought the bike they were all about telling us about the bike service dept and how great it was. So much for great customer service. Come on -REI hire enough people to provide good customer service. Will not be shopping there any longer. We will patronize the local bicycle shops in Roswell. read more
