I walked to REI from my hotel with a group of friends who are major fans of the place and knew that this was the original location Wow, was the trek there worth it. I could have spent hours in the store, and I'm not even an particularly and outdoorsy type of person! They have so many interesting products that you can purchase and use for hikes, camping, etc. If I lived near there, I would buy a lot just to give away as gifts. They have major products like camping equipment, clothing and shoes, backpacks.... the list goes on. I suggest simply looking at the photos I uploaded to get some of an idea of the many wonderful products this store sells! This is the REI store other REI stores wishes to be!  There's actually an REI very close to where I live in LA, but honestly I always just end up shopping online and use the store to return and exchange my items.  During a recent Denver weekend trip, we popped in here during a rainstorm thinking we will just window shop until the rain stop.  Well, I've been eyeing some hiking pants for awhile and I found everything I needed and more! LOTs of sizes and selection to choose from, great customer service at every corner. It also helped that it was the anniversary sale weekend! There's even a huge rock climbing wall on the first floor. This is the best outdoor equipment store and more! It was a bit hard at first to find parking, but a little patience always helps. read more

Look, I like REI most the time, and I do think this is a good store overall. However, what just happened to me was so frustrating, and other customers deserve to be warned. I was excited to find some smart wool socks on clearance for about half price. So, I bought two pairs. And double checked they were in the row marked as clearance (they were). After a long time in the store, I was excited to finally return to my car, whereupon I double checked everything on the receipt to discover that they had charged me TWICE what they should have charged for the socks. So I re-enter the store, wait at customer service. When the guy helps me he calls over to the area. 5 minutes later I'm informed the clearance price was for a different color. I'm surprised, and go back to the sock section. Sure enough, it was 100% clearly marked as clearance for the socks I had initially chosen. The sign even said "white", which was definitely the color of the socks too. I guess they were just "kidding" about those being on clearance (two entire rows btw, were marked at half price and all identical colors). I wonder how many customers don't double check every single item like I did..? REI has probably made some nice extra cash from their "mistaken" price tags. The cherry on top was that the extra time figuring this out at the store caused my parking time to be 3 minutes over 3 hours, which meant a whopping $30(!) I had to pay when leaving. I've been a routine customer of REI but the service quality has been dismal. During a Saturday at peak hours, they had one employee working the bike & ski shop. There was one customer ahead of me when I got into line and my wait time exceeded 40 minutes to pick up my completed bike. While I waited, I saw numerous employees congregating around the counter but each claimed they weren't working the shop to assist. Will be going to EVO in the future for my gear purchases / service. read more

Pros: 1. Big! That translates to a lot of selection. We went in expecting to buy nothing, and ended up purchasing 4 pairs of pants because we saw all this stuff we "needed" that our local (small) REI doesn't have. 2. It wasn't that hard to find someone to help you, and everyone working there was very friendly. 3. If you can't find your size, someone helps and they can find the size/color in the back. Cons: 1. Parking lot was insane. You'd think this is the parking lot for Disneyland or a sports arena - so many people driving in and out nonstop. We got lucky and got a space as someone was leaving. There is an overflow parking lot down the street but you'll have a good walk (I suppose if you shop at REI you don't mind a bit of a walk). 2. Not enough fitting rooms for how big and popular this place is. I had to wait about 15-20 mins. read more

Came here for the first time last week to snag some camping gear. They truly have everything you need and more! Amazing quality and we ended up getting more than we initially came here for. It's like a camping version of Target lol. I think the only thing that rubbed me the wrong way was that the staff was a hit or miss. One staff had zero intentions on helping us whilst another staff was SUPER helpful and did all he could to make sure we were satisfied with our purchases. Fun experience! read more

This place is like Disneyland for adults. I went tent shopping here and had a great experience. The store was out of quite a few products, the service rep said it's because everyone is camping due to the pandemic. So we sell out of many things as soon as we get them in. The wife and I bought a tent to go camping but ended up bringing it back because it wasn't comfortable or large enough for the two of us. Returning it was extremely simple, no questions asked and the money went back right back on my card. The customer service was impeccable. I love the store and will be back soon to feed my appetite for more toys! read more

Flagship store. One of the more impressive locations I've seen across the US. Feel the Eastlake Seattle REI has it beat, but this location represents Colorado and Denver extremely well. Always a large supply from clothes to gear. The camping equipment rotates a bit but is generally a staple. Sleeping bags, cooking materials, stoves, cups, packs, and shoes will always remain. Climbing gear also has a dedicated section. Mountain bikes hold a fairly large store flail although product variety dwindles slightly in the colder months. Skis and snowboards galore November to April. Then paddle boards and more lake variety items take their place. You'll find a large selection of racks and Yakima or Thule car containers year round as well. Multiple floors and an adjacent Starbucks round out this expansive space. read more

I found a coat on the REI website that interested me, so I visited the flagship store. A person at the door directed me to the coat section, but then I was on my own. The staff ignored me and seemed preoccupied with stock work. When I asked one where I could find the coat I'd seen online, she said, "It's probably downstairs." Downstairs, I experienced the same indifference. I never found the coat. If the people in my store treated customers like that, I'd be out of business. read more

This REI has completed changed my perception of any and all REIs...and I now have such high expectations! It's one of the flagship stores so know that it's not your typical REI. BUT living in Denver & Westminster meant it was the closest location to me, so lucky me! The staff are always pretty friendly and knowledgeable, though sometimes you do have to track them down. During tourist season, which seems like its becoming literally every month, the parking lot is a mess. If you can, park a bit down the road and walk up. The Platte river is a nice location to take in Denver! read more

What an absolutely amazing store! I've never seen anything quite like this! Absolutely huge, but easy to find whatever you might need or want, or didnt know you did! Parking is mostly across the street but is free for REI customers. Bikes, hiking, camping, water sports, winter sports. And the consignment at the store or used/return area was a hit for us. We were confused with member pricing, but after it was explained by one of the amazingly friendly and patient staff (who were never more than 30 seconds away), we joined for pur daughter who we moved to the area. Highly recommend this store! I will continue to shop online with them, but loved learning more about them and their principles! read more

We were visiting Confluence Park and happened upon the REI store. My husband is a big fan of Starbucks, which is in the same building, so we decided to stop by. This is a huge store! Be prepared to spend some time looking around. When we went, there was a large clearance area upstairs. I ended up buying two dresses and two pairs of shorts. We were visiting during COVID 19, so the dressing rooms were closed, but since they have such a great return policy, I didn't mind. The next day I did have to return one of the shorts. There was a short line, luckily we were covered by a sun shelter, and the line went pretty quick. read more

We stopped in to make the purchase of a pair of Birkenstocks and a pair of $500 boots and before going called to ask if we could take our dog in the store with us and we're told we could as long as they were well behaved. Got there and upon to enter the store we were told we could not have the dog in the store. so we then proceeded to one of us shop for $160 purchase while the other one waited to go in afterwards. Asked where the Birkenstocks were and we were directed to a location in the store that did not have them, waited around for about five minutes for someone to help and there wasn't enough staff to help the customers. proceeded to leave the store so my husband could go in and make his purchase and when exiting through the cashier counter had to cut around the ropes to get out and a cashier stopped mand asked me if they could help and I said yeah couldn't find what I was needing and couldn't find anyone to help me so we're leaving and they said OK thank you. Then my husband went in to find the $500 Plus boots that he was looking for and they had two pair of these boots but when we called before going, we asked if they had a large section of that particular boot and they said yes, we have a wide selection of them. Again, the person who was helping him was much less than helpful. Beautiful Store great location, but the service is worthless. Ended up ordering the Birkenstock sandals direct from Birkenstock for about $20 less (no shipping cost added) than advertised at this store. read more

So pissed. REI works with a parking company that owns the lot out front. Was in Starbucks for an hour, the machine freaked out and charged my card $20 when it was supposed to be free. I call in they say it was my choice to pay it and refused to reimburse me. Such Idiots - be careful when parking here. read more

You go, can't find parking, get berated by granola people selling CDs. Then you see the bazaar that is their " flag ship" Returns/pickup/purchases are all in separate corners I'd go to Lakewood or Boulder or buy online. This place feels more like a tourist trap then a functional space. read more

I was so excited to visit the flagship store for the first time and my experience was extremely disappointing. We came to try on shoes and sat around waiting for an associate to help us for 20+ minutes. Most customers in the area were googling product information on their phones because there was no help or any questions being answered. Some of these problems may be due to understaffing, it seemed like the associates in the footwear section were juggling too many people to be able to provide thoughtful help. Luckily after finding the answers we wanted online we were able to get the size and head to check out. The associate at check out was extremely unfriendly and it was a fitting end to the whole experience. I am giving 2 stars because I do love REI and being in the store itself was a great experience because it is clean and fun to walk around, but beware if you are looking for something because it is a little bit difficult to get immediate assistance. read more

I brought my skis in for a tune. They were promised to be ready by 6 pm on May 2. I drove across town to retrieve them. I arrived at 4 pm on May 3; this was 22 hours after they were promised to be ready. They weren't ready. Now I have the pleasure of driving another hour through Denver traffic to retrieve them at another time. Not happy. REI: this is basic customer service. Deliver what you promise. Or at least call the customer to tell them you need another day or two. read more

Just unbelievable. The largest sporting goods place I've ever been to. Lots of friendly and helpful staff. It has multiple levels and a massive selection. You can even sign up for classes or lessons. read more

This is without a doubt the worst REI I've ever been to. It is large and sprawling, across multiple mezzanine half levels, with ramps and pathways leading from one section to another. It is labyrinthine, unnavagable, one section seemingly unconnected to the next. There are catwalks leading across various areas, which give you little idea where they go. Also just the socks... the socks! I went there looking for socks. I started in the bike section, which is located, and I quote "you go to the monolith, then you go left past the ski area, from there you go up stairs to another area, from there you go left up a ramp through a pathway, from there you go back further through a narrow path and then you find yourself in the bike section". The selection of bike socks was slim, which is unfortunate because they tend to be closest to what I was looking for, thin and minimal. So i asked where the rest of the socks were located, and was directed to shoe section (I'll spare you the directions). At the shoe section, I saw one wall of socks, near the running shoes, and went over there. I browsed for a bit but didn't find what I was looking for. I looked around and saw that throughout the shoe section, interspersed with the various varieties of shoes, were many more, small sock sections. I visited each, and eventually found something vaguely matching what I was looking for. But I feel this experience serves as a microcosm for the entire experience I had at this REI. Frustrated and confused, looking for something that seemed straightforward, but being forced to search aimlessly through the various sections. I don't understand why this REI was built in the building it was. I understand it's an historical building, and it's cool to make use of and preserve such a building... But at what cost? When does the cost outweigh the benefit? Also, the space felt very inaccessible for people of a variety of abilities. I'm sure there is an elevator somewhere, but even for someone with the ability to walk and climb stairs, it was hard to get around in there. In short, my experiences in REIs tend to be pleasant, fun even. This one was not. I found myself feeling angry throughout my time. An REI has never made me angry before. I almost can't comprehend this experience I must mention though, that every employee I interacted with was pleasant and as helpful as they could be, given the hellish setting. Buy climbing shoes, there's a bouldering rock out front. There is climbing inside (not sure if it's up during COVID) Definitely worth stopping in. Don't miss it if you're in Denver... I mean unless you went to Denver for some reason but don't like the outdoors... No, still worth grabbing a coffee at the connected Starbucks and perusing the selection of shoes and clothes to add a piece or two to your collection. read more

I just can't say enough good about REI. Especially the flagship location here in Denver. I came here this time because I bought a pair of Birkenstocks (the clog style) back in November. They weren't for me - they were painful. I wore them 2-3 times and just figured I was stuck with them, and put them in the back of my closet. This is May. I decided to call and see if maybe I had any options. I got a very friendly "come on in, please don't keep them if you're not happy!" I went in and, no problems whatsoever - I was able to exchange them for another pair. I even had the option to return, if I wanted to. They didn't have the size I needed in the replacement I wanted, so they ordered them to my house with no hassle. REI is simply amazing. All the people who work here are beyond helpful. This company knows what it means to build brand loyalty! read more

Helpful staff and easy experience. Went to REI the day of a camping trip to find a tent. I did some online research before showing up and the website was super easy to filter to help me narrow down the type of tent I wanted by various attributes (capacity, cost, weight, etc). I arrived at 10am on a Saturday and there was plenty of parking in the underground structure. It's free parking within 2 hours. REI had a greeter at the door to help direct you to the section you are looking for. I was directed exactly to the tent area where another employee was able to help me find the tents I saw online. They didn't have one of the tents I wanted in stock, but had plenty of my second choice. They were informative and educational as well when telling me about the tents. Check out process was smooth with many different cashiers. I recommend you sign up to be a REI co-op member for cash back. read more

REI Flagship Store... Still a fan. I prefer to shop here in person rather than "clicking" the laptop buttons, and purchased items online. During the SALE period, it can be a nightmare. Be it the GARAGE SALE or something in between. Nowadays the GARAGE SALE is being prepared outside, a little ok if the weather permits. But when the weather is not permitting, it could dampen some spirit sales... I prefer to shop when its the "quiet" time to shop mostly near the Lunch hour period on a WEEKDAY! The staffs are always willing to assist me in any shape or form. This recent visit was indeed a breeze. Managed to find and purchase the items. Its good if you are a member of REI to get those discount pricing what nots... REI, can you please open another store nearer where I live. Pretty please???... I love RE I. I am visiting from PA and we have a huge one there. This one was really disappointing, especially because it was the flagship store. The main reason I give it a low rating is because despite there being a ton of staff in the store talking to each other, no one offered to help me as I was looking at various expensive backpacks. Maybe it was the end of a shift? I did notice a few other people looking around with no help being offered. It was also hard to find the women's section because things are weirdly spread out and on various floors. There wasn't anyone in the women's section to even answer a question. I ended up buying my backpack somewhere else where I got a lot of help. Lastly, you do have to get a ticket when you park. The ticket is very small and thin like a receipt...it blew away. I spent $100 in the store and showed the person at the gate my receipt, but I still had to pay the $20 fee for losing my receipt. They weren't even nice about it. Recommendation: make the tickets more like a normal receipt that you get at turnpikes so they don't fly away as easily. read more

The average length of time couples stay married in the USA is 8.2 years. I've been married to REI since 1985. That's a 33 year membership . . . uh . . . relationship. I have no plans to go anywhere. I'm as crazy about REI today as I was back when I first joined her in commercial connubial bliss. In fact, more so now. Why you ask? 'Cause just today we almost got into an argument, but it turned into the chance to have a great make-up conversation, so to speak. I'd purchased some Scarpa hiking boots online but they were the wrong size. I exchanged them for the right size and that exchange happened when REI was offering $40 off on a purchase of greater than $200. My (re)purchase of the right size boots should have gotten me the discount but the online chat rep said it didn't. I politely asked for the number for a supervisor and had the best ever conversation that netted me the $40 discount. So I ask . . . how can you stay mad at your lover when they tell you you're right and give you all the money you could ever ask for? I was super impressed by this location. In awe more like it. I had it in my mind before stepping foot here that the Seattle building was bigger. No Monsieur this one is massive! The outside of the building tells the story. Bricks. They're sexy. I think so. So to me this is one sexy beast of a building. An intimidating climbing wall rises up to meet the gorgeous stairs. Why gorgeous? It's the wooden kind. Where age makes it more appealing. The corridor that connects the stairs from one side to the other gives you the idea of how large this place is. Outdoor bike trails, thoughtful parking lot that is free for three hours. One is closer while the other is still close by. The backpacks are on the ground floor for example. My favorite spot? The map area/Ranger. It's the best. I stopped there and talked to the most generous and knowledgeable man about hiking and backpacking. There is a Starbucks inside. No fireplace like the Seattle building. Why bother? CO has more sun year round than San Diego! read more

Amazing historic building repurposed as a three story REI -- reminiscent of the Seattle underground city tour if you've been. Even if I didn't love REI (which I do) I would come here just to marvel at the architectural features of this former Denver Power Co building. The brick and exposed metal beams are showcased by the ample natural light and openness. The three guys who assisted me on this visit were knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. The first found a sweater on a mannequin in the room adjacent so quickly -- love that he has the floor memorized! The second helped me find the perfect pair of city to trail boots. The third at the cash wrap adjacent to Starbucks was efficient and friendly. Not only is there a gargantuan assortment of merch for lots of sports and camping, but there is also an indoor rock wall! Get exhausted by all the outdoor equipment shopping possibilities? Starbucks is INSIDE this REI... and it has an outdoor patio that wraps around three sides of the building!! We were floored. I would love to work here. Although I think a lot of my paycheck would end up back from whence it originated :) read more

We called ahead to confirm physical availability of a bicycle. We live in Loveland, so driving down there to check availability ourselves is not an option. Talked to a woman (Karen?) who was kind enough to track down the very last one for us. She "Set it aside and put our name on it". After our lengthy drive we arrived to watch a mother/son combo test riding this very last bike for an hour. Karen had left for the day, and the other employees informed us that not only was there no bike with our name on it, but this one remaining unit is for test rides only because it was partly malfunctioning. This is the type of idiocy I've come to expect elsewhere in this modern world. It's a shame to see REI has joined the bunch. We lost 4 hours of our Saturday. We will no longer support these corporate morons, go to your mom and pop shops who still care about their community. read more

My husband and I go to REI for any sports or outdoors equipment. We have bought so much from them and have never been disappointed. They are reasonably priced for the quality and their return policy is fantastic. You can essentially return anything within a year even if you used it if it's not to your liking. This was great when I bought a pair of hiking boots so I didn't have to worry if I didn't like them after my first hike (although I did anyway). They have a great selection and the building itself is huge! If they don't have what you need they can also order it online and have it shipped to you. Sometimes there can be a big line at the cash but the staff are always efficient and it moves quick. The staff who work there are so knowledgeable and are always able to point me in the right direction if I'm lost or nee input on a specific item. I would highly recommend the REI coop membership for a 30$ one time fee which gives you free shipping and 10% back annually. Parking is free for the first 2 hours and there is an underground if the above ground is full. They also have great hours-9am-9pm daily except Sundays they close at 7. read more

I'm not a super outdoorsy kinda gal, but I can appreciate a good selection of stuff when I see it. I don't think it's much of a surprise to people when they hear that REI is a little overpriced, but I feel like the service is part of what you're paying for. Side note, if you are outdoorsy, I recommend being a member. It's $20 for a LIFETIME membership, and you get some cool perks. This REI was a great draw since it's probably the biggest REI I've ever been to, with a climbing wall in the middle of the store. There was plenty of knowledgable staff. The one thing that really annoyed me was the layout of the store. It's super confusing, and god forbid I get separated from my family, it's like a maze trying to find a meeting spot. Some floors also have ramps to other levels, but those ramps don't go all the way down to the main level of the retail area. Unnecessarily complicated. read more
