I have been a customer of REI for years, but my recent experience has left me extremely disappointed. REI has flagged my account as an "excessive returns" customer and now limits my purchases to effectively being final sale, even though REI widely promotes its customer-friendly return policy. What is especially frustrating is that the company has refused to remove this restriction despite my requests and despite my history as a customer. I understand that retailers need safeguards against abuse, but the process lacks transparency. I was not provided with a clear explanation of what specific returns triggered the restriction, what criteria were used, or what steps I could take to regain normal purchasing privileges. As a result, I no longer feel comfortable making purchases from REI because I am being held to a different standard than other customers while still paying the same prices. A return policy is only useful when customers can reasonably rely on it, and in my case that trust has been lost. I hope REI improves the transparency and fairness of its customer account review process. read more

Always excellent service at REI. I came in to renew my Discovery pass. Of course I had to look around and dream about how to best outfit my new life here in the PNW. The Seattle store is of course my favorite, but, this location will do. Loads of parking and a decent selection and clean organized REI. And super friendly staff. After giving me a tutorial about backpacks I want to shout to Lisa. Unfortunately the one I coveted was not on sale. I practiced self control and did not purchase the $160.00 back pack. I've been a regular REI customer for decades. I'm in need of a new bicycle. I provided a detailed description of what I was looking for between $700-$1300. I went into my local Issaquah store twice today and was left with no options. "Sorry, you'll need to take the equipment offered or any additional labor is charged at $115/hr". I am very disappointed with the service received, and the 'don't really care if you buy here' mindset. I was ready to drop $1k+ today and no one cared. read more

I'm a co-op member of REI and love their stores, even though they are pricey. I came in to buy a pair of KEEN sandals. I knew exactly what ones I wanted, just needed to get two pair in different sizes to see which would be the right size. I watched the lady in shoes help someone else and give her great customer service. After she brought her several different shoes to try on and asked her questions, I asked her for help. She came back with the shoes, and the size 9 were clearly used with large, visible scuff marks on the sides and worn on the soles. I told her when she came back from the warehouse, and she promptly got me a new pair. When I was buying the shoes, I asked what the warranty is, and I found out that REI has a 1 year warranty behind all of the shoes they sell. This location is a lot smaller than the one in Southcenter and Lynnwood and A LOT smaller than the flagship store in downtown, having just one floor, but it has some selection of clothes, shoes, bikes and outdoor gear still. For those who don't know, it's only $20 to join the co-op and you receive a cash back coupon at the end of each year of a percentage of everything you purchased that year, similar to a Costco membership. read more

He brought out sizes I didn't even ask for because he could tell I might need a wider boot. She was actually last years runner up at Franklins Rock River stone skipping championships! She even signed my rock. She was so nice with helping me find a portable loo!! Very knowledgeable with loo's and really made me feel confident in my purchase. The set up was easy and she even took it out of the box to demonstrate how easy it can be. Don't let the bike shop touch your bike. They broke my son's thru axel while attempting to repair a flat and were unapologetic, didn't offer to fix it with the same part they broke. Lack of experience, don't go there and expect to walk out with a safe bike. "Free" flat repairs for members, don't end up being free or hassle free at all. Took them 1 week to even order the part, dealing with them again won't happen. Rude and super shady place. read more

Not the largest store nor does it have much stock, but is convenient that there's a location in Issaquah if you're already in the area. This store is located along Gilman in the shopping centre, right by Safeway and other businesses. This store has the basic departments with the most popular items, but quantities are limited. I've found that they have the bare minimum, so would recommend purchasing anything you like here because chances are, it will sell out, especially with sizes for apparel. Also, they don't have a lot of items that you may find online - so would recommend calling beforehand, to make sure it's in-stock at this location. But I'd say the negative is the service. Staff mostly keeps to themselves, as they will not greet or ask if you need help. And if you do ask for help, they seem annoyed that you even asked. It's not the most welcoming experience here. Overall, I'd only visit this REI if I'm in the area as this location lacks in stock and service, especially when compared to other stores. read more

I am happy we have an REI in Issaquah because sometimes you just want to find some good quality outdoor gear without trekking all the way to Seattle. While I don't work too far from the flagship store, it's such a pain to get over there. So the Issaquah REI is my go to, especially since I'm not the most intensely outdoorsy person to begin with! I like this store because it's not overwhelmingly large and they still have a good stock. I usually go straight for their Patagonia and North Face section because they continuously have really cute options. Don't bypass their clearance rack without checking out the goods! They always have something incredibly discounted and I'm all about a good deal! The staff for the most part is helpful and friendly. I've never had a bad experience here. read more

Had my worst experience ever and I have been a member for more than 30 years and have bought many items. My dividend is often very large. The place was busy, and the person running my order would have been fine with a simple checkout. He made some mistakes due to his lack of knowledge, and I stood there for more than 30 minutes and 3 tries before I asked to see a Manager (nobody there called for assistance). The other people next to him offered suggestions followed by ringing up others due to the line, and left me and the employee hanging. Clearly 2 secs of comments but no real help for their coworker. It was like they worked on commission... Once the Mgr arrived she expressed someone should have called for assistance. While true, shouldn't she train her employees and keep an eye on things? She was helpful but I really didn't feel any satisfaction with the effort... While they finally got it right, I entered the store in a great mood and left somewhat pissed off about the entire 40 minute debacle. So this review is about um...insect repellent. I am headed off to Asia in less than a month. China to be exact. While I will be visiting several large cities, I will also be visiting a mountainous region. Not taking any chances, I decided to pick up some insect repellent for the trip. While it is easy to find insect repellent online, you still have to pay shipping charges or buy additional stuff to get free shipping. Not to mention, I didn't want to have to buy a big bottle since I don't think I will need to use too much of it. Hence, finding it locally was the easiest way to go. The insect repellent products at Target are not strong enough, so I headed over to the Issaquah REI after checking their website of available products. While this REI is smaller than the flagship location downtown, it is sizable enough to fill the needs of most people. They carry all sorts of outdoor gear including camping gear, luggage, clothing and bikes. Their insect repellent section is sizable with plenty of choices to choose from. They have full size bottles as well as travel size ones that would fit in your pocket. They even have insect repellent wipes. Also if you need more info than what is on the package, go to the price scanner and scan the item. Noticed the scanners provide additional information about product along with the price. In addition to insect repellent, they have a nice selection of travel size products for trekkers. You can find many personal care items like shampoo and soaps (ex. Dr. Bronner's) along with items that would come in handy while on your journey including kitchenware, water bottles, empty containers and freeze dried food. While REI offers products targeted at the outdoors enthusiast, I found that many of these items would be useful for those travelling. Particularly people heading overseas. The caveat with a store like this is that prices can be high as they are specialty goods. However, REI is worth a visit if you need to pick up gear locally. read more

This was my first time coming into an REI store and I will definitely be doing so again after my experience. She measured my foot on both feet, showed me how hiking boots should fit and feel, explained why and shared her expertise. I'm British and we even had a discussion about her vacation. Quick shoutout to Evan in the ski shop. REI is working with the same supply chain issues everyone has right now, but Evan was able to get the parts needed to repair my skis expedited to arrive just in time. One of the techs called to let me know my skis were ready and left a voicemail. I had a flat on my bicycle tire, and the gentleman at the Issaquah REI not only found me a new tire and tube, but he straightened out my rear derailer and tightened my brakes, just because he was a really nice man...maybe he was worried I would kill myself going for a ride? I love the Issaquah REI. The manager, Nathan, took the time to walk me through the racks and equipment I would need for kayaks. And kayak specs for a first time buyer. He continued to be helpful even knowing I was not making a purchase that day. I ended up buying everything I needed online later and having it shipped to the store. When I came back to pick up the kayaks, Nathan again took the time to show me how to load and tie them down. He recommended additional, affordable straps when we found out there was nowhere on my car to attach the bow and stern lines. Nathan and his staff go above and beyond. I found the perfect pair of bicycle clip in pedal shoes, and while ordering online I accidentally shipped them to my old address. I called customer service, not only did they re-ship out another pair of the the bicycle shoes to my new address free of charge, they also sent out a ups driver to my old address to see if they could retrieve the other pair of shoes. This was totally my fault, and REI really helped out by providing quick excellent customer service, and all at 9:10pm pacific time which is totally not normal business hours. Love REI, and this has much the same as other REIs. Perhaps because I go to their flagship store bunLake Union, I find there is no "wow" factor. It is basically an enormous square room of merchandise. I was hoping for a more personal vibe. I went previously to their bi-annual "garage" sale, which has incredible deals! It is returned merchandise. We got almost $200 off a baby backpack :) Of course, I will continue to shop here but will go into Seattle instead when time permits. read more

What's up with the Customer Service here? The customer service reps don't seem to really care about making sure you are being taken care of. I've had multiple experiences where the customer service rep makes it seem like it's a pain for them that you want to return something or your crazy for asking them a question like locating another size for a product. You get no smiles just blank stares of , "How dare you return anything or I don't have time to help you." Sometimes I just want to grab one of these reps, shake them and ask what the hell is wrong with you?!? " Don't offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee and return option if you are going to flip attitude about people returning things. I'm giving this a 1 because the people in the shoe department are extremely helpful and extremely nice otherwise they would get a negative 2. I'm a patient person, I'm an extremely nice person, I understand people have bad days, but I have no patients for this place. If you need to go to REI, go to the Tukwila store or Seattle store where pretentiousness does not exist and the staff are extremely helpful and nice. After escalating my problem to the R.E.I. corporate office in Kent, WA I finally got a resolution and was able to return my bicycle. I had to talk to customer service, legal counsel, district managers and corporate managers before being put into contact with manager Doug at the Issaquah location. Doug was amazing, he called me at home, apologized for all the hassle and assured me he would make it right. The next day I went in and he kept his word.
