I love REI but not this location. When I returned a pair of running shoes after they reopened due to COVID, the clerk was very nasty to me, saying that the shoes had been worn a lot. I told her that I had purchased two pairs just before COVID so that I could alternate days of wearing the shoes. The store closed for COVID before I could return the defective pair. Instead of wearing out the one pair, I decided to wear the defective pair until the store reopened. I even showed her both pairs of shoes so that she could see the defect for herself. Both the clerk and manager, whom she called over to examine the shoes, were very nasty and treated me like a criminal, although I did nothing to violate their return policy. I also had my bike tuned up and repaired there. Some of the services for which I had paid were not completed. When I asked to have them done, the mechanic was very nasty. When I took the bike with me on an RV trip across country, one of my riding companions, who is a triathlete, pointed out other problems that should have been repaired. I will never use the repair shop at this location again! read more

Back in May of 2021 the tech told me there that I need to buy the tire online because they did not have any. does not make sense that if you can buy it online then REI should be able to procure some. they also held my bike over for 2 weeks on a minor adjustment to the brakes and gears. Was told by someone there that they were not busy and that they should get it out sooner. read more

This is my go to spot for grabbing any of my much needed outdoors gear. They help keep me nice & warm when I'm out running in the brutally cold Georgia winters. I also bring my 11 speed road bike ‍ here for annual tuneups & other needed repairs. I've been frequenting this location for the past 3 years & I enjoy the experiences I've had so far with the staff. I also enjoy the dividends they giveback every year to members. I use it to buy much needed new biking ‍ equipment. So now Yelp is telling me how I should review due to Covid. WOW! Yesterday I went to REI to purchase Chaco sandals. I was told that I would have to wear socks to try the sandals on. They also told me I could purchase the socks from them. I personally would like to know how me holding the shoes in my hands is different than me putting my foot into the shoe. And if they are going to require socks to try on sandals they could provide the little footies that they normally do anyway. I feel that this is an effort to get the customer to purchase something from them. Once coronavirus has passed I will never go into their store again. read more

I came in to REI with a broken derailleur on my bike ready for a fix. I came in got my bike and asked can I test it please. He said yes but you have to pay for a test ride. Which is absurd I want to see that it is not broken which it was broken because. When I got home it kept switching two gears instead of one. And on top of that the back tire was flatter then a pancake. Which indicates that he didn't fully check my bike before handing it to me. :( read more

This was my first experience in I called the store ahead of time to ask about bringing my dogs. We needed hiking harnesses. The nice woman in the phone said yes and was very cheerful. Walking into the store we received a warm welcome. Some gentlemen in the bike department offered advice on the fitting. Since I felt comfortable I went back to them when we thought we were close. Turns out the store didn't have the right size, bit the employees showed me how to find what I needed on their website. This experience has made me an REI customer. I will buy all my outdoor gear from them for now on. read more

The employees (Jessica and Corey) at this location are/were extremely rude. I took my my son's bike back in to have it re-checked. The problem that I initially took it in for, wasn't fixed. Since I purchased a membership during my first visit, I thought it would only be right to take it back to the place, that did the initial diagnosis and repair. Upon speaking with Jessica and showing her a six second video of the chain Popping/slipping, she stated that your son was in the wrong gear and walked away. Corey, the coworker, was extremely rude and took up for her. All I wanted to do, was to get my son's bike fixed, from the initial problem that I brought it in for and paid for. This place is more concerned with selling you a membership, then fixing the problem. However, a nice older gentleman, named Mark came over to help me out. He took his time to assess the bike and said that the initial problem that I brought the bike in for was never fixed or done correctly. After my son's bike is fixed, or if it can be fixed here, I will never come back here again, nor recommend that anyone else comes here. I clearly see why this place has so many 1 star reviews. I don't care about losing my money from purchasing the membership. It is about the principle. No customer should feel like a culprit, when you're bringing a bike back in to get it rechecked from the initial problem that you paid for in the beginning . When they reopened after a few months they sure missed being rude to customers so they have a lot of catching up. We joined REI several years ago, when my daughter was a nature counselor at sleep-away camp. They did such a good job fitting her for hiking boots, and again, when she needed a quality backpack. The customer service is impeccable and justifies the few dollars more you may spend on merchandise. Every now and then you can find a deal: I recently purchased a pair of Ahnu shoes, which were almost $40 cheaper than advertised elsewhere. The staff here are outdoors-people, and can offer firsthand advice about your prospective purchase. Located next to Total Wine -- another favorite place! -- this is my kind of shop. read more

The store manager, Candice, is not only terribly unhelpful, she is rude. I lost the key for my Yakima cartop carrier. I was told to go to an REI store and they would tell me which of 4 keys is the one to order for my carrier. It was 7:30, a 1/2 before closing time. It was drizzling, it was not yet dark. When I pulled my car to the back of the store Candice very rudely told me she would not allow the employee to try the keys because it was raining. I offered to put the carrier inside on the loading doc, a mere 10 feet away from where I was standing. She said "No, it's closing time". I asked what time do you close? She said "8 o'clock". I said "it's 7:30". She said "there are 75 keys on the ring". No matter what I said, she was determined to find an excuse not to help me. I don't know if she hates men or is just a rude, lazy woman. I am telling anyone who asks, Do Not Go To Your REI Store. I will bring it up in my conversations. I am posting this review where ever I can. You should NEVER let this woman speak to another customer. She is highly offensive. read more

Been an REI member since '09. Shopped at this store more than any other stores. Normally have quality interactions with the staff here, but not during my last visit (6/13/14): I don't recall ever returning an item, but after 5 years of membership, I was truly unsatisfied with a camp chair that I had purchased an admittedly long time ago (could only find out from the cashier once I was in the store - bought in 2011). I wanted to know if I had any options under the satisfaction guaranteed policy, which I was unaware had changed. To the cashier's knowledge of the new refund policy (June '13), I could not exchange the chair; no problem, I knew it was a long shot. He wanted to confirm his decision with the manager, though. Enter store manager (cashier 116657). She must have inaccurately gaged my demeanor because she jumped right in to the situation as though I had been giving the cashier a hard time. After she confirmed the cashier's decision, I attempted to empathize with the absurdity of the old policy by letting them know that one of my friends used to work at this store, and he used to remark that customers were allowed to return anything/anytime, no questions asked. She perceived this point to mean that my friend was taking advantage of the system and rudely quipped, "I bet they no longer work here anymore." She was right, he went on to REI Corporate... I then tried to garner some answers on hypothetical scenarios for how I should return future items under the new policy. Said manager could neither answer my questions confidently nor maintain a polite manner in trying. I left feeling more than put off. The best part- I flew out to visit Yosemite last week, and a friendly employee of REI Dublin (CA) told me that my chair is considered a grandfathered item because I purchased it under the former return policy; it should have been returned/exchanged for me. I was under the impression that REI customers paid higher prices because the return policy allowed us to avoid buyer's remorse. With the change in policy, and the unprofessional attitude of the Kennesaw REI manager, I plan on trying other stores far before returning to REI. I may keep the chair to remind myself of this boycott, too. Cheers read more

What's not to love about REI. I love the whole concept of the store and the feel of it... everything! They have everything you would need for your outdoor recreational activities. I love that, if you're a member, you get a pretty nice little discount at the end of the year. Personally, I go there for the biking supplies. I come here, because the local bike stores typically don't have that big of a selection. I have found that they have everything I need, but they have the more "recreational" options rather than the "wanna-be-professional" options. If I'm looking for a $250 bike helmet, I go to my local bike store. If I'm looking for a $50 helmet, I come to REI. They have a lot of nice bike jerseys, too, and some times their sales are great. I've been able to buy some really nice bike jerseys here for $20. Their REI-brand wicking tops are some of my favorite multi-use work-out tops. I wear them for biking, hiking, etc. Awesome value for the price. read more

Used to be my one stop shop for my rehydration and nutrition needs. Their selection is half as big now and they've stopped carrying many of the best products. Namely the Camelbak Hydration Tablets for hydration bags. The Camelbak tablets do not mold, taste great and are superior in their rehydration abilities. Now they're selling this crap called NUUN. This stuff is awful! DOES NOT TASTE GOOD and it doesn't work as well and Camelbak brand and worst of all, it molds badly and quickly. I will be doing more shopping online and at other stores from now on. Get your act together REI. read more

And his female manager walks up and tells him to go on break. I explained he was super helpful and we were pretty deep into conversation. She was completely unapologetic. I was impressed more by the knowledge of their staff than by the quantity and/or variety of items they sell. It is medium-sized for a sports / outdoor activity store, I think. However, they don't just hire people off the street for minimum wage (I'm assuming). They hire people who know their particular area. I am starting to have huge problems with my knees, but love to hike. I had read several articles on hiking poles and decided to go check them out. I was at a loss once I was faced with the wide variety (and price...from $25 to $100's) of poles. I had no idea which ones would be appropriate for my needs. The salesperson in that department was a huge help...asking questions about my exact needs, what my issues were, what type of hiking I did, etc. She then steered me toward the correct poles (and no, they were not the most expensive ones, which is what I kinda expected). They have been amazing and have allowed me to hike places, like Cloudland Canyon, that I didn't think I would ever be able to hike again! read more

Love the great service of the bicycle department and repair team. They are knowledgeable on a broad range of bikes, from ebikes to high end racing bike, to kids bikes. Less the snobbery and elitist attitude of HIgh End Shops. The price for service is fair, but the service is expert level, without the high end tax. Their recent deal of replacing tires for free service charge was incredible. I was pleasantly surprised, since this wasn't a routine tire swap. Hat's off to Tony, service manager and his team. Visited on 6/25/2016 with my girlfriend. We weren't looking for anything in particular, but now we're members! We browsed absently for 15 minutes, then made our way to the shoes. Upon spotting the Keen water shoes, we realized we had to have them for some upcoming water events and possibly as camp shoes. The shoes were pricy and a bit heavy, but this isn't a product review. When we approached the shoes, the sales associates seemed very busy. However, one of them saw us walk up and caught my eye to tell me he'd be with us in just a moment. He successfully balanced several customers at once, going in and out of the stock room to get the items to try on. Once things died down a bit, he educated us on their membership program and sent us up to the register to check out. I wish they wouldn't call their annual 10% back on items you purchase an "annual dividend," since that program is in no way even similar to a dividend, but it is a nice little perk. Anyway, back onto the high prices. The sales associate who helped us with our shoes also gave us a tip. Apparently, on their website you can find items which can be 50% off just because they are last year's model, even if they are still new. This conversation was what really sold us - I'm a seeker of top quality, while my girlfriend tries to keep our expenses reasonable, so this middle ground was perfect for us. Wow! Terrible service in the shoe department today. They had two shoes that I wanted to try on, so I stood there for about 5 minutes. Nobody so much as looked at me. I decided to hold the two shoes that I was interested in and take a seat. I heard one sales person telling two people that he had been waiting on that he was going on his lunch break and that he hoped it worked out for them. He handed them a little card and left. My husband and I sat patiently for 10 more minutes while, still nobody even looked at us sitting there. We left; very disappointed. Really REI? A sales person should wait for his lunch break until he completely serves the customers that he was helping. Also, if there is potential business standing around, I think they should postpone their break, rather than leave customers standing around waiting. read more

We do a lot of outdoor equipment shopping and have visited stores across the country in search of stuff that will make our lives easier. REI in general is great; we've been loyal members for decades. Their return policy is excellent, and their prices are generally reasonable, although you can sometimes find better deals at other stores or sites. That was what happened to us recently when my wife and I were shopping for replacement backpacks for a big trek, when we located the packs we wanted for much less than they were at REI because of a close-out sale at another site. I had previously been fitted by Sarah, one of the salespeople at this REI, so we took a chance that she could help us a little in sizing our new packs. We admitted right away that we'd got them from a competitor, but she didn't bat an eye and spent well over a half hour working with us to get a perfect fit. She was experienced and informed and helpful -- just about the perfect salesperson. In the future, it will take a lot to get us to buy our equipment anywhere else. She made us even more loyal than ever. read more
