Great new location on 196th across from Barnes and Noble and Whole Foods. This location is an upgrade to the previous spot in Alderwood Mall. This new location is double in size and features larger bike shop center, ski shop, and gear/apparel options. There are more community rooms for classes. I came here in search of a ski jacket and gloves for an upcoming trip. There's definitely more selections and I easily found the gear that'll fit my needs. Prices are reasonable and they have seasonal sales to help entice shoppers. The line to check out was rather long as there was only 2 check out counters open. The cashier was friendly. Being a co-op member, I was able to apply this purchase towards my rewards. What I like about being a co-op member is the ability to return products within 365 days from purchase. Though I've never availed of this benefit, it's great to have as a perk. read more

We have long been REI members, and I appreciate the new location outside of the mall-proper. Better parking and access, though not as "pretty" as their two-story mall spot was. I recently ordered some shoes online but they didn't fit quite right. I went to the store to return them (which they make quite easy at the counter), expecting to be credited and then go back online and order the size I needed. Instead, associate Cathy offered to place that order for me right there, and even found a sale code to apply to save me about $20. She was friendly and helpful, and went the extra mile for me. My only complaint about the store is that I found the selection of women's cycling clothing to be sorely lacking. read more

Love the new location of REI. Not conveniently in the mall anymore, but with much more space and a nice in-store traffic flow at its "new" location in the former Babies "R" Us. Found the right one after trying out a handful of them. They have at least 5-6 counters. the line was as usual long - moving fast though. Very happy to see they have decided to expand. REI is a great place to wander and dream of all the adventures you could take if you had all of the cool gear they have to offer. The staff is friendly and helpful, everyone seems very mellow and is extremely knowledgeable. Their selection of boots and shoes is pretty great with a wide array of sizes to choose from--I was able to get my kiddo fitted into some size 14s without issue which is awesome. If you are an REI member you get coupons for discounts throughout the year and those come in handy when you want to make a big purchase. read more

REI heart is in the right place, but not their brain. Store 1: Walked in for some hiking boots. There was a confusing line before you were allowed into the shoes section. Wait, what? Once I got in a rushed assistant gave me one pair to try on (they were the wrong size), and then vanished never to re-appear. After 5 mins I gave up and went to a different (nor REI) store. Store 2: Went in to buy a new winter coat. Stock was poor .. it was all shoved into one corner, with more running gear than on display than costs (in October!!). Mens and women's were poorly marked .. you had to guess which section was which. The coats were all locked to the display stands (really?) .. and while there WAS a shop assistant (presumably to unlock them?), he was cleverly disguised to look like a customer, browsing the merchandise with no distinguishable indication to distinguish him FROM a customer. After 5 mins of trying to catch his attention (he was just browsing stuff, not looking after other customers), I gave up and (again) went to another non-REI store. Look, I *LIKE* REI .. I like their philosophy, and I'm a member, but the stores are badly organized and the staff (if you can find them) are heavily disguised. They need to do better. read more

It was snowing lightly when I arrived at approximately opening time today, Tuesday 29 November 2022, and the foot paths had been salted to help make it less slick. Entering the REI store, I started looking around to see if I could find the area with the beanies. I had checked online to make sure they had beanies in stock in-store and they did, so they would be there somewhere. I noticed the hanging sign by the stairs saying clothing upstairs so I started up the stairs. On the landing I made sure to scan the ground level and I spotted the beanies in a corner on ground level. I checked upstairs first and when I found no beanies up there, returned to ground level and perused the selection. They had a number of brands and knits with different fabric thicknesses. I liked two and pulled them down to check them out. An orange one was a few inches longer than the other, good for people with long hair if they want to put their hair in the beanie. I was buying the beanie as a Christmas gift for my aunt who maintains her hair at maybe a few inches of length. So the obvious winner was the smaller chartreuse green one, less empty space at the end of the beanie when on. Payment was straightforward, I used my co-op points ($21.98) and the final total was $22.16, so the beanie cost me $0.18 out-of-pocket. I paid with a one dollar bill and later realized I had exact change in the car, oh well. The workers were friendly and diligent. read more

I would have known that before driving out if there was any way to talk to a store employee on the phone, but there isn't - so they just wasted an hour and a half of my life. No for bike service .. came in with a aventon first I have been a member for more then 10years. I was remembering why I didn't buy a bike there when I was shopping for one.. I was ask in I kept kept the bike outdoor which I responded yes and also if the bakery side got water I respond no because it was a covered spot which repeated more then four times.. which should gotten a clue not to take my bike there.. but any way I left there. Then received a phone the I needed to bring in my key for the batteryies so the could put it on schedule. Which took the next. I ask iif it was still the same three week turn around. Which the person I gave the key too said yes. Which was around July 16. That I was supposed to get the bike back. I never received an email or anything of the sort between the time I dropped off the bike and the next day when I dropped off the key until I decided to drop by and ask if my bike was ready. Which was around July 18th. At that moment they informed me that I never dropped off the key so they've had a bike there for 3 weeks. At this time I still hadn't received another phone call saying that what happened. I didn't drop off the key. Then I was informed that yes they would put me on the schedule again. And no I wouldn't have to wait 3 weeks but I was supposed to use that bike and I didn't have it in time which required me to rent a bike on my vacation having my own bike which I took a month before to get repaired. And when I go in there now which I'm not really happy when I go pick it up after coming back from my vacation and it seems like I had an attitude. But again the bike was sitting there for almost a month and no one decided to call me and I would have informed them that I did drop the key off so I give their service at the bike section zero Stars. I have shop in the ski section. I have shopped and all other sections and different Reis and their bike service needs help. read more

Poor customer service from workers that have no empathy. We have an elderly relative in her 70's who purchased two pair of ski pants for her grandkids a few days ago when REI was having their big sale. When she went to wrap them because they are gifts she realized that she accidentally purchased her granddaughter a men's and not women's. The ski pants are TNF Freedom pants and they are offered in both genders. She went in to exchange them and the girl at desk would not honor the sale price from a couple of days ago. She told her it would be 90 more dollars to purchase the women's Large. She just decided to return because of the way she was treated. She said the female employee was very rude. She also is going to return the pair for her grandson back to REI. She ordered both pairs directly from The North Face online today and will no longer be shopping with REI. The incompetent female employee should have said let me ask my manager if we can honor that sale price because you made a mistake and purchased the men's and not women's. Instead she lost a customer. read more

They have a wide assortment of shoes that I am interested in however there is very few crew members to help. If you know what size you are and what brand you want then you'd be ok. Not too impressed with their help. I do like the 100% satisfaction guarantee they have on their products they sell. I wish they stopped asking to make a donation every time I cash out. 1) I don't get income tax deduction 2) I could donate twice as much with matching outside of rei 3) I can't write off capital gains tax using donar advised fund and 4) it's annoying AF. Net result is charity gets less money, I get no tax deduction on income or capital gains, and it makes me not want to shop at rei. It's lose, lose, lose. read more

I've been thinking of getting a jetboil for awhile for some possible car camping in the near future and also because it's a good option to have on hand as part of a disaster preparedness kit. I went into the store several times and on my first visit Eric provided great service and patiently answered a lot of my questions despite the store being very busy that day. Thank you, Eric! I spoke with Andrew on my 2nd visit and he showed me the mechanics of the jetboil system and made me feel comfortable so I would feel confident using it on my own in the future. He gave really great advice and also mentioned they teach a class on how to use it. Thank you, Andrew! I love REI. The Lynnwood REI is crowded with a large selection of gear for the size of the store. We did not make a purchase as we live out of the area with our own REI which is much larger with a smaller sales tax. I noticed the Lynnwood REI had a significant numbers of employees ready to help customers even on a late Friday afternoon. The store was busy. read more

This is a very good REI, I can tell that the staff care to explain everything in full detail and make sure that the customer understands. This store has an amazing selection of all outdoor equipment and even better prices! I have shopped and enjoyed this REI for years. All things said, my last experience wasn't so great. An associate by the name of "Sydney" had a horrible attitude towards not only me but other customers. Me and fellow customers started talking about whether it was just us or she was being unprofessional. We noticed she was upset and taking it out on customers. I understand everyone has bad days but if you are having such a bad day why come to work? And furthermore, why take out your feelings on paying customers?There was even a very nice lady next to me shopping saying that she has been coming for more than 10 years and she has never been treated so unprofessionally. I hate to be the one having to report this but it needs to be brought to attention. I hope my review is taken into account and action is taken. Planned a last minute backpacking trip end needed a good quality pair of hiking shoes to withstand the different terrains. Nate, a shoe associate, approached me by listening to what I needed and gave me options. I was really worried about not finding anything in one shot but he was knowledgeable, attentive and efficient. The shoes he helped me pick out were exactly what I needed and worked well on my hike! Aside from him, random associates and the cashier were so willing to help out and offer their assistance, the store was plentiful stocked, tidy and organized. read more

I went in looking for a day pack. Employees all walked by me and didn't acknowledge my standing there. Had one guy I asked a question to but he was prepping for a class so he begged off and found the guy who was supposed to be working that section. Told him I was looking for a day pack. He went up to the tiniest one of the shelf and said that was his personal favorite. I only wish I could fit into an XS/S. He then walked away with no further assistance. Husband showed up not long after and I am one who helped with his fitting to slow him what was best for his size. He asked if I wanted to keep looking... Nope. We will for to Bellingham or Seattle. Lynnwood can't be bothered to assist a customer so why would I spend money at that location. And the tall blonde young kid who showed me the tiny pack I could not fit over a boob... Word of advice.. Don't be knocking Boy Scouts or other services. You never know who is standing there. And you can do all the reading you want but until you take your ass on the trail don't bother offering your opinion.. read more

WORST experience I have ever had in a retail store. I purchased a pair of Sorrel boots for $280, less than a year later they fell apart. When I went to return them, I was told by Susan ( a manager) that since I was not a "member" there was nothing she could do for me. Susan, then proceeded to tell me to "get lost" and "see ya". I asked to speak with another manager and told Susan that she could not talk to me like that. She then called 911 and told the police that i was being "belligerent" even tho i had not raised my voice or shown any aggression or hostility. Really Susan??? that is how you deal with people??? I will NEVER EVER buy anything from REI again. read more

Went in today (the last day of the Gear up, get out sale) to buy my 5 year old a bike. It was super busy because of the sale. The bike tech, Ryan, who was CLEARLY up to his eyeballs in bike and ski repairs and tunes, was soooo kind and stopped everything to help get my 5 year old's bike all prepped for him to ride right of the store. He was kind and patient with our many demands and just offered the best service. i had to head over to yelp to give him a huge shout out. my kiddo is SO HAPPY with his bike so big thanks to Ryan in shop services for taking time out of your busy day to help us- you're the best! read more

This is a great REI! I think all REIs are pretty great but this one is the next closest one to where I live and almost as big as the flagship store down in Seattle. They are usually pretty well stocked and have friendly and helpful employees. They are conveniently located next to the Nordstrom at Alderwood Mall and adjacent to the Panera. It seems like this location is always busy - this summer the ship to store option completely overwhelmed their storefront. I think that's why they now limit what can be shipped to store! read more

I just felt like it was a little excessive, we have a membership for a reason, and a return is nothing to be shamed for, especially as it was 5 days after I purchased it Though I will say, we were here the week before and had this sweet lady help us in picking out dog accessories. Drove 45 minutes to get to the store, and arrived 20 minutes before advertised closing time to process a return. Was told that the store had closed early due to being at capacity. Was not allowed to wait for other customers to leave and be under capacity. Here's a suggestion for better customer service: Cut off the line of people waiting at closing time, not before closing time. Then process everyone waiting so they will not have wasted their time coming to your store. If you advertise you will be open until a certain time, then you should honor what you've advertised. read more

The REI in SLU - Seattle is way closer to me, but this past weekend we were up north a lil and decided to stop into this REI. This REI is located in the Alderwood Mall, so expect mall parking and mall traffic. Parking was bad on Sunday, but with a little patience, we snagged a spot. This past weekend was the start of their Labor Day Weekend sale. So there were a ton of people, but I guess REI is always busy, like how the Apple store is ALWAYS busy.... lol. REI is my go to outdoor store. The return policy is great, the customer service is awesome as well, and I feel like their employees are knowledgeable about the outdoor life. Came here to pick up some backpacking food, hiking socks, and what not. This store is a lot smaller compared to the SLU store, but it's got everything I need! read more

REI has high prices but everything they sell is at high quality with staff that knows what they selling, really friendly people who enjoy their jobs and working with the public, and there's the $20 one-time fee to join their membership where you get cash back every year on whatever you buy - for life! I came in here once to buy myself some Keen sandals which I had heard raves about and yes, they are the best. Really great staff in the shoe department was there to explain the three different kind of ladies Keen sandals - wide, regular, flexible - and what colors they had. Then she raced off to get me a pair in my size after I chose regular. She did her sale on buying a membership, and I did so! I have a chronic illness and it's hard to find footwear that is comfortable, and these sandals have been really great. Came back again with a couple guys to buy them bike parts. Love REI's bike section where the staff know exactly what to get for your bike. Hooked up my friend with the tubes, brakes and tires he needed. The gal that helped was really great. The entrance to this REI is straight in from the parking lot, no need to deal with the crowd in the mall. read more

I travel quite a bit to remote bush villages in Alaska. It is important that I pack everything I will need into my wheeled duffel. I had bought a cheap model from a competitor and it lasted over 10 years, but when I was looking to upgrade REI was the first place I thought to buy since they are known for quality, and I also thought (erroneously) that they had an awesome (think Nordstroms) guarantee/return policy. So I'm about 18 months into using my REI duffel and on my last trip I notice that the wheel is dragging and the nut holding wheel is coming out. I limp home and my first thought is to return it for an exchange... after research I see they only guarantee for one year, it's been about 18 months. I'm a bit pissed at this point because I paid 300.00 for this thing and it's falling apart. I decide to bring it in anyways and demand satisfaction. I arrive and a young lady named Sara Jean (?) helped me. I explained the situation, she checked to see if it was under warranty which it was not. She told me unfortunately the gentleman that usually could help me the most was off today... but within an eye blink, she was taking my bag back to the shop. As I waited, the shop cleaned the bearings, fixed the loose bolt, greased everything up and put a locking nut on the wheel. My point here is that I kind of expected to leave here in a huff because my 300.00 bag lasted only 18 month compared to the 10 years I was expecting but thanks goes to the clerk- Sara Jean (I hope that's her name) for going above and beyond my expectations and rectifying the situation and making me, the customer, happy. Is there a way to give less than 1. The employees there were of a mood as if they had come directly to work after a fight with their spouses. Disrespectful, non inviting and sad staff that was least interested in sales. We were eager to buy camping equipment but these guys have the worst experience. Approached the associate with a smile and he turned his face to go elsewhere. REI staffs there stores with associates who are knowledgable and passionate about the products they sell, this is what sets them apart as a leader. The store has a good selection and fair prices. The prices may not always be cheaper then online stores but here you will get a team of sales associates who can answer your questions because they know the products they sell verses just what the label says. The store also has a great manager Jen who is available to help should needs be if anything comes up. Fantastic store and look forward to continuing to get outdoor needs there. read more

Sydney was very patient and helpful as I spent ages deciding on a good outdoor boot that was waterproof to wear. I was really impressed by the dedication the employees in at least the footwear department had to making sure the customers have a shoe that they feel comfortable with and take good measurements on in order to ensure the right size is selected. On top of that the return policy is very generous, even better with a membership that is both inexpensive, supports a co-op business, and never expires! I will certainly be going back here at some point. read more

I will never buy products from rei again. I bought a  alps mountaineering camp creek 4 tent in the Hope's that it would be the perfect tent for my camping trip. I was wrong, I bought it because it said it was water proof. It was definitely not. I do alot of camping so I do know how to put a tent together correctly. I bought this tent in Hope's to replace my old tent. Not not only did it leak it made everything that was in my tent soaking wet. Needless to say I am a very unhappy customer and will be making sure that my self and my friends and family will not be shopping at any rei stores. read more

So I went in a few weeks ago for the first time since November 2019 and was happy to get help from some old faces like Max, Bill and LeeAnn! But the store manger Matt was very rude to me when I asked him about a couple questions about returns as well some of the old faces who helped a lot but he called those who I have not seen and no longer work there losers. I saw Matt again recently and he was yelling at fmr. employee at another store. The whole thing horrified my grandma who remembered that employee who helped a lot and for being a big man a gentle soul. Since she was with me we went over and asked him if he was okay. And was okay and we told him we missed him at REI. So I hope the CEO of REI deals with Matt cause he will hurt the company if he is allowed to stay. read more
