Love me a good massage! Found this place while visiting with some friends in SB. Decided to call and make sure they could take us in the middle Of the day on a Saturday. Phone was not working, not sure what was going on that day but the phone # listed kept going to "cannot take this call" or something along those lines. Great place - they ask the depth of strength you want applied to your muscles on a scale of 1-10. They have pictures of the masseuses so you can ask for people you know. After walking up and down State St., this massage place was much needed. My girlfriend and I finished the evening with an hour long, full body massage and it was great. The place was well organized and clean. My massage therapist stood on my back to roll out the knots built up from exploring Santa Barbara. I was covered by a blanket/towel at all times and there was always a towel in between the massage therapist and my body, which is good considering that most people, including myself, just finished walking around town. It gave me the sense that cleanliness is important to the business. At $35 for a full hour, it can't be beat. A foot massage includes a massage of the actual foot plus the calf. Begin by soaking in warm water. Don't miss this very reasonably priced option -- massage prices are determined by the length of time you choose. 40 minutes for a foot massage was plenty and only cost $26 (plus tip). Pretty clean, all employees there wear a uniform too. Parking is on the street so we had to walk a few blocks. Nobody there speaks a lick of English. It took a good 10 minutes for them to finally understand that we were requesting 2 female masseuses. I expected a little bit of a communication barrier coming to these "foot reflexology" establishments, but not like here. They literally don't speak any English. We got the $35 full body massage for 1 hour because we like to lie on the tables. I assumed the combo (30 min body + 30 min foot), which was also $35 for an hour, but we'd have to get up half way through our massage to move from the chair to the table. The full body was good, but you lie face down the entire time. I kept thinking they were going to tell me to turn on my back, but they didn't and all of a sudden it was done. I would've liked to have been on my back so they can massage more of my scalp, face, neck and shoulders more. Also, they will ask you if you want to be massaged by having them step on your back hence the bars above the massage tables. I bought my parents a combination massage which was an hour long and when I picked them up after they wouldn't stop raving about how great it was. My mother suffers from arthritis and has trouble walking she felt so much relief after the massage that she actually went out for a 30 minute walk. My dad said he felt like his masseuse really knew which areas he needed to focus on. I haven't been here myself but my parents have been going to different places for years and never heard them this happy about a place in particular, I can't wait to try it out myself. Excellent and cheap massage! I had never been to an asian massage place and only went to spas where there is a private room which you get a massage in. I always thought places like Relaxation Station looked scary; but it is amazing! They give excellent massages (better than any I have paid 2 and 3 times more for) and there is no worry that you will get a chatty masseuse like I have had to deal with before. I had an opportunity to visit the Relaxing Station while recently visiting Santa Barbara. I was impressed with the ease of getting a strong full body massage with an extremely capable employee, Tom. After an hour of perfect pressure, I felt like a new person. Tom was careful not to overdue that pressure since I requested a 6 on their scale. Tom was attentive and reassuring the entire session. Really enjoyed my combination back and foot massage. I like the fact you can choose what level pressure you want from them. I choose 2 for intensity but you can go as high as 7. The place is clean and there are lots of attendees available to help you. They also have a chart that helps you communicate to the masseurs about your needs that are in the white baskets you put your keys/ glasses in. Sure, you may hear some outside noise but you are on State Street which is busy with people. Don't let that bother you as you get your massage. Hmmm ... I not quite sure how to describe Relaxing Station. I realize we showed up late & the staff was accommodating & this is a plus, but the massage was not any Chinese technique I've experienced. There was no foot soak, the hallmark beginning to any Chinese massage, as a matter of fact there was no attention paid to the feet at all. A real bummer! The masseur mainly paid attention to the back, some light leg & a little neck work. He did excel on the shoulder/scapula area & the scalp area, though short was very relaxing. I have the sneaking suspicion that the more one visits this business, the better or more individualized the massage becomes. Unfortunately, there was no reflexology of any kind, another bummer, something I appreciate & am most willing to pay for. If you're just visiting Santa Barbara I might suggest perhaps trying a smaller more off-the-beaten-path specialized Chinese massage. When I go to places in my hometown, they often start talking to each other and it ruins my zen. This was tranquil and I was able to fully relax.
