I did some research, actually a lot of research on HVAC systems as to how they work and then to make it more complicated do I switch from gas furnace to Heat Pump. Then what brand etc. It was a lot! Then once I narrowed down the brand I found a few companies who are trained by Carrier. We just had our HVAC system looked at by Reliable AC & Heat. Our system is only a few years old but suddenly stopped working. When my partner called for a quote, we were told it would be $145 for the initial diagnostic, with any repairs or parts charged separately. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They were quick to schedule service and had availability the next day.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The technician arrived on time, was friendly and informative, and began diagnostics. He quickly discovered that the issue was simply a loose wire that had come unplugged. He plugged it back in (literally a two-second fix) gave us some helpful tips, and wrapped up the visit in about 20 minutes. We were a little embarrassed that it turned out to be such a simple issue, but we were happy to pay the $145 we were quoted and had budgeted for. However, when the invoice arrived, the total was $225. My partner called Karen at the office to ask why the price was $80 higher. [[HIGHLIGHT]]She immediately got defensive and argumentative -- as other Yelp reviews have mentioned. She defended the price, saying "could you have done it yourself?" Yes, of course we could have plugged it in. She rudely replied, "then why didn't you?" -- a remarkably unprofessional and inappropriate thing to say to a customer.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] She asked, "could you have done it safely?" Yes, it was literally just plugging in a wire, and we knew how to use the disconnect. She then tried to guilt trip my partner, saying that she was visiting someone in the hospital and didn't want to argue, which felt very unprofessional. She then claimed there was a $225/hour minimum for any 'repair.' The technician was only here for 20 minutes and this policy was never communicated to us beforehand. No "repair" was actually done -- the technician simply plugged in a wire. What frustrated us most is that we were never asked if we wanted to conduct a "repair" or given a quote for how much the "repair" would be. Had we been told, we would have absolutely declined and done it ourselves. A customer should be told when they before they're about to incur additional charges and a "repair" is about to be done. We were disappointed, as we had planned to continue using this company for future service, but this experience felt dishonest and unethical. Quoting one price and charging more for a "repair" that wasn't a repair at all isn't the way to build trust with customers. read more

Inevitably, when Southern California has a cold spell is when the HVAC system goes down. Early February 2025, the entire system went down. System is 8 years old. We called the "Good Turn" AC and Heating folks who promptly came out. They diagnosed the problem but would not perform the work under warranty. They provided me with an estimate that was 1/2 the cost of the original system!! WOW!!. I then contacted the Manufacture of the system (a major USA HVAC Manufacturer) who gave me a list of factory approved repair shops. This is where I reached out to Reliable Heating and Air-conditioning. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They promptly made a house call and I asked them to diagnosis the issue(s).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They identified the same issues plus one additional contributor. I was responsible for the labor under warranty but the parts alone (covered under warranty), where thousands of dollars. They procured the parts and repaired a system that had suffered many failures (possibly related to the numerous power outages during the fires in So. Cal). The same representative, Connor, was specifically assigned to the job and even though it took a few trips, his work and the interactions between myself and the Company couldn't have been better. The system was up and running again within a week or so from when they first visited the site. Given how much was damaged, a week is impressive. We had a great experience with Reliable AC & Heat. Our heat pump was making loud clanging noises and would periodically shut off, leaving us to suffer through the cold LA nights. The technicians were unable to replicate the clanging and shut off, but they were able to identify the apparent cause of the issue, which was exposed wires that under certain circumstances would vibrate enough to touch, setting off the limit switch, and shutting down the system. They were able to repair the wires and all appears to be working normally again! The technicians were professional, respectful, and explained everything thoroughly. KEEP AWAY. We hired Reliable to fix the smell and dusty air from one of our units. They confidently recommended better duct sealing and cleaning. The problem was never fixed. When we complained they dragged the issue for months before telling us they to pay additional $19000 to change our ducts! When we got two other opinions we were told no need to do so. We needed a larger air intake and additional of a filter to fix the issues as well as a better duct dealing Reliable never did properly as evident in the pictures. I called the morning my a/c stopped working and a technician came within 30 minutes! He diagnosed the problem quickly. A new blower motor was needed, but because it was a special item it could only be obtained from the manufacturer which would have taken 2 weeks. Karen worked her magic and had an after market motor in their possession a day later. Renzo installed it the following day. He worked quickly and left the place spotless. He also serviced my system. Reliance was here maybe 25 minutes for which he charged me 275.00 replaced a 11.50 40/5 Start Cap, left old cap in the machine and just tossed the new cap on the shelf in the cardboard box next to the contactor low voltage. I removed the old cap and installed the new cap in the bracket and secured the wires with ties. I would not use them again. Change the 2 caps out yourself if you know about 210 volt electricty, you can buy them both for 25 bucks or less. read more

I was referred to Reliable AC & Heat directly by Carrier as they were able to cover any warranty work. Karen was very thorough in getting information from me to confirm the issue and pre-purchased the motor that was thought to be faulty. Upon arrival, the technician Gilbert took time to thoroughly diagnose the issue and discovered that the motor was fine but the issue was due to how the HVAC had been wired up. Gilbert took the time to fix the issue and ended up not having to change out the motor! Reliable AC & Heat is the 5th HVAC company I have had look at my system and was the only one that was able to correctly diagnose and fix my problem! They also returned the parts that were pre-purchased but not needed with no charges to me. Overall Reliable AC & Heat has been great to work with and went above and beyond to ensure that they would be able to address my issue on the first visit. These people are shady, rude, and unprofessional. Avoid unless if you like paying through the nose and being treated like an idiot. I should have known when I first called early one day to request an appointment for the next week. They said they'd check the schedule and let me know. By the next afternoon, I still hadn't heard back so I called back to follow up (big mistake--should have just found someone else at that point). When I made the appointment, my A/C wasn't working. The thermostat was, but it was just blowing hot air. When the technician arrived and I went to show him the problem, to my surprise, the thermostat did not turn on and did not show any signs of power. He said that he would have to first troubleshoot the thermostat and then see if there was any problems with the A/C (as if he believed that the thermostat was the only problem). I asked how much that would cost. He had to ask the office and they said $175. I pushed back asking, "well what if it's just a loose wire?" to which he said "well they said $175." Shady!So I told him I would rather deal with the thermostat myself and then have him come back to fix the air conditioning. He left for his truck. Then the office called me and convinced me that the $175 was for him to install a c wire. I agreed because my original objection was for paying that much for a diagnostic that could end up being a 2 second fix. Hindsight: I shouldn't have bought that BS when the tech himself said he didn't know what the problem was and needed to investigate. So he came back, did his thing and he told me the fuses were blown and he'd need to replace them. Fine. Finally he says that things are working by using jumpers but obviously that's temporary and I'd need a new thermostat. That I could probably call the thermostat company and get a new one since mine was defective/dead. But in the meantime, he could install a basic one while I wait for a replacement thermostat. I asked him how much that would cost. So again in their weird little communication scheme, he waited outside and the office texted me and told me that the work he did for the diagnostics and replacing the fuses was $296 and that to install a new thermostat would be $185. NO THANK YOU! I told him I did not want him to install a thermostat because it was too expensive, but I just wanted him to fix the A/C. He was confused at first, but I confirmed with him that he would make it work with the jumpers, he would leave with the jumpers and the air would be off but once I put in a thermostat, it would blow cold air. He said yes. He came back and explained that the $185 was to install the basic thermostat temporarily, but that once I got a new thermostat, then they would install it for free, so essentially the $185 was the installation fee for both the temporary basic and the future new one. Makes more sense but still overpriced IMO so I declined. I paid, he left, I went to Home Depot and bought a $25 thermostat and installed it. The air was blowing and initially it felt cool but I later realized that was only because the house was so hot that anything less than hot felt cool. The air conditioning definitely was not working. I called and Karen asked me questions about the thermostat, how I installed it, and what buttons I pressed. She was convinced that I didn't set it right and that I needed to use the "hold" button to set the temperature. She made snarky comments about how I didn't read the manual and how I didn't know what I was doing. Sure, I don't have the knowledge of an HVAC professional (hence the need to hire service from a company like this), but I know enough to be able to install and operate a thermostat myself. (P.S. Karen you're wrong: the manual says that the hold button is used to override the programmed temperature control--it is not actually needed to set the temperature like you said.) All the while, Karen is generally treating me like an idiot, trying to guilt trip me for "not letting them finish their work," and accusing me of raising my voice to her when it was her who started with the snarky comments and not really listening to anything I was saying. So they try to blame me for either installing the thermostat wrong or not knowing how to use it. They finally agree to come back and do things for free under a DWP program. They say the problem is likely the refrigerant and feed me more crap when I point out that this should have been checked in the original diagnosis that I paid for. Although they got it working, the principle is that it should have been done in the first visit and I shouldn't have needed a second visit or the DWP program. If they would have listened to my main point: you make it blow cold air and I will take care of the thermostat, we wouldn't have had to gone through all that. Note: it started blowing cold air with the thermostat I installed once he added more refrigerant. Shame on them for treating women like incompetent idiots. Don't give them a dime. read more

We had a very specialized system and had been rudely turned away by many other companies before a friend had recommended Reliable. They helped work with our Home Owner's insurance on the replacement. This company has been taking care of our a/c for years so I called them when my mothers heater died. They were wonderful. My mother is 94 and wants to remain in her home but doesn't have much money. They helped us find everything needed at a great price and were prompt courteous and so helpful. My mom was so grateful. Honestly they completely understood what she needed.
