We had a automatic transmission failure in my wife's 2001 SUV, Reliable Transmission charged us $3000 for the repair. Reliable Transmission removed and repaired the transmission 4 times over a 7 month period to get it working. There was a documented whirling noise problem that was never fixed. Reliable Trans. warranty is a scant 24K miles or 2 years. Our SUV WAS UNDER THE WARRANTY MILEAGE BUT OVER THE TIME PERIOD BY 1.5 months if using the last transmission removal and repair date. The SUV was slightly slow going into gear so I took it again into Reliable Transmission and they recommended changing the fluid and filter. We said OK, within 400 miles the trans. started to have 4 -3 shifting problems. Finally after Reliable Trans. had our SUV for 2 weeks, Reliable Trans. said that it needed removal and likely a torque converter and WE WERE OVER THE WARRANTY TIME PERIOD. We were most likely responsible for the repair (What another $3000 repair bill?). Reliable Trans. previously replaced the torque converter 3 times! Reliable Trans. said once the trans was out for repair they will not return the vehicle unless it was fixed. Since the shift problem occurred after the fluid change, I decided to change the fluid and replace the filter again. Reliable Trans. stripped 7 out of 8 transmission cross member mounting bolts and one of the skid plate bolts. The transmission could have fallen out. The magnet in the pan was full of debris and all indications were they didn't perform the fluid and filter change. To make a long story short, When I contacted the owner, he asked "how did I get his cell phone number". When confronted with the fluid change and stripped bolt problem he offered no solution. The owner would not take any responsibility for the poor transmission repairs. My experience is the owner does not stand behind his work. The owner and the office manager provided terrible customer service. My transmission should have lasted for many years to come and should not have started having shift problems after there "fluid change". read more

I generally don't review businesses, But I received such excellent service from David at Reliable Transmission in Aloha. On a Hot July afternoon, while trying to get Home to Beaverton from N.E. Portland in rush hour traffic. All of a sudden my Trucks transmission started acting weird and then my check engine light came on. I drove straight home and called Reliable Transmission. The Manager answered the phone after hours and helped calm me down with his nice understanding voice. He was so helpful even though it was past his companies hours of operation. He asked if I had AAA so as to save me the cost of a tow to his facility. Which I forgot I even had tow insurance. I arrived the next day and told the Manager (David) that my truck was my only means of transportation and I needed it daily to make a living. He offered me a ride to my home and get this, when we arrived he waited several minutes before he left to make sure I got in safely. He opened the car door for me as well . Well I ended up needing a complete overhaul with updated parts and heavy duty torque conversion. I ended up getting a fair price, good warranty and excellent service throughout the process from diagnosis to final completion of work. I have never felt so much trust with a person in charge and a company overall in quite a few years. David valued my time and money and that's rare these days. These guys are awesome. While on a road trip of 2700 miles from CA I became concerned about my transmission on my older Lexus SUV. I stopped into their branch is Hillsboro and the Manager there did not seem to give a hoot and did not do much to accommodate me. Their Aloha branch managed by Jason was a different story. They took my car in and did a complete diagnostic as well as a road test. I had even told him that I was fine if he needed to replace the transmission fluid even though it recently checked out fine. We went to the bar/restaurant next door and asked him to call if it needed work. I heard nothing back and when we headed back to their shop our car was parked locked up. Jason informed me that everything checked out fine, it did not need anything and it was common for an older SUV to shift a little roughly sometimes. He did all this for us at NO Charge! I might add that being a tourist from another State and unlikely to use his services again because of location he could easily have taken advantage of me. What a great attitude to customer service and how inspiring to still meet people who do a truly honest day's work. Thank you for renewing my faith in humanity. *This review is not based upon service, but people! I did not have my transmission serviced here.* When my SUV wouldn't shift out of first gear, I knew I was in for some trouble. I immediately took it to AAMCO and was met with pushy sales tactics and big numbers and left with little information and a scared look on my face. I immediately drove down the road to Reliable and met with Jim who was great. He took the time to test drive my car, tell me what he thought was wrong, and gave me the hard numbers without beating around the bush. He even made me feel comfortable when I uncomfortably got upset about the numbers! And even though the prices were about the same as what AAMCO told me, the guys at Reliable took the time to explain the trouble to me so I didn't just feel like I was being ripped off. Ultimately, a family member rebuilt my transmission in exchange for a lifelong supply of gratitude and favors as well as some cold hard cash, but I would highly recommend the guys at Reliable based upon my initial consultations with them. I had my daughter's transmission overhauled instead of replacing--it was a toss up between replacing with a re-manufactured at another shop or have these guys rebuild the whole thing for a little less. I made the right decision, got a "reliable rebuild" without the grief. Anyway spent some time with Dave (the owner) going over all the work to be done, did my homework on the internet and checked things out. Dave is a straight shooter and does quality work. That's what really counts. It's been almost 10 months of heavy driving with six kids and no problems. 2 year warranty, stands behind his work. I gave Reliable Transmissions five stars because they gave me accurate information, a solid estimate, stuck with it even when they had to replace things not in the estimate. I came in to have my transmission looked at in my 2001 Honda Accord. I was having trouble backing up. They checked it out and found lots of problems with it. We were hurting while down to only one car. They couldn't promise us how soon it would be done because one part had to be repaired somewhere else before they could rebuild. However, it was a blessing that the place that repaired that part got it done the same day and they had our car done the very next day, which was the day before Thanksgiving. Our Ford Contour had a standard oil change elsewhere, but they made a mistake that damaged the transmission. Dave took a look, did some investigating and figured out what happened. He fixed it quickly and sent us back to the original place with his assessment. They reimbursed us for the repairs, but we won't use them again.
