Do not take your car to Japanese Auto Services at 19400 SW Shaw in Beaverton! I brought my suburban there in September and was told it is not worth fixing and mechanic, Ross offered me $250 for parts. When i opted to get a 2nd opinion after he was seen driving it, he then claimed it was just the radiator needing replaced which he replaced w/o prior authorization and I owed him $600. He was only going to charge for the part not labor. I had to leave town for a month. I told him I wanted to pick it up and he continously kept putting me off insisting he would bring it to my home. For 4 days in a row he made excuses for why he didn't make it. I then showed up at the shop demanding my car. He then informed me someone had attempted to steal it from his residence and broke the window and punched out the ignition. He had admittedly been driving the car which is why it was at his house. So now I was expected to wait for the window he ordered to come in which he was hoping he could replace "to avoid any drama". He assured me he would deliver it to me later that day. 2 days later he claimed the car was stolen from his lot. Couple weeks later an arrest was made of Nicole Klemstein. He claimed in his grand jury testimony that he "loaned" her the car after filing a false police report that it was stolen. All said and done no charges filed against either one. $900 to get out of impound and over $1000 to fix window and ignition. Sheriff who initially took report, Corporal Phonh Tran has not returned my calls so I have to assume the washington county district attorney's office has chosen not to charge the mechanic. RESCUED ME AND SAVED CHRISTMAS!!! Yesterday (Christmas Day) I got stranded on Highway 26 when my car died and wouldn't start again. I couldn't get ahold of anyone for help and didn't know what to do. That's when a Christmas miracle named Ross pulled up to see if I needed help and literally saved my day. Long story short Ross runs Japanese Auto Services in Aloha. Ross got my car a tow to his repair shop (which was closed for the holiday btw), personally worked on my car (on Christmas) and got me back on the road in less than 90 minutes. But that's not even the best part... HE DIDNT CHARGE ME A DIME!!! FOR ANYTHING!!! When I asked how much I owed him I expected the bill to come to just under a fortune considering the roadside rescue and repairs he did were on a major holida. But he just handed me my keys, said it was on the house, and wished me a very Merry Christmas. I'm still in shock and don't know how to thank Ross enough for his kindness and generosity but I do know that Japanese Auto Services is the only place I will take my car for service and I will send everyone I know there too. This place is a complete scam. I should've read the reviews first... blindly trusted our AAA tow guy. Full of empty promises and then threats to pay or they'll keep the car and 'charge storage fees' after holding onto my car for weeks and no communication. And absolutely TERRIBLE customer service... lied to us SEVERAL times and then said they'd refund us - another empty promise... I've never reported anyone to the BBB until now. I've never had to dispute a charge as fraud until now. Just disgusting behavior from them - be ready to be taken advantage of. read more

I wish I'd read the reviews before hiring this company for a pre-purchase inspection. I live in CA, but was planning to purchase a Toyota truck located in Hillsboro, OR. Before making the purchase I wanted to have a trusted local specialized Asian-auto mechanic look over the truck completely. Ross (Firas) reassured me that they do this all the time and would offer a thorough inspection, followed for a report for $120. They also offered to pull a Carfax for me. At the end of the day, it turns out Ross is all talk, just as other reviews have stated. While I did get a phone call from the mechanic to go over their basic findings, they did not follow up with a report or Carfax. It was excuse after excuse, and after I called several days in a row they finally went dark on me. I finally left a voicemail asking for the reports and that was well over a week ago. Thanks to this mechanic, the deal fell through. I would not suggest this place if you want a responsible mechanic that follows through with their promises. read more

Bad Estimates, Bad Work, Bad Customer Service I'm newer to the are and haven't found a regular mechanic, was really hoping this place would be it because at first blush they seem like a nice and friendly place. I spent several months and several thousands of dollars with them to still not have my car working properly and regardless of the details of the repairs here are the biggest problems compared to all the professional mechanics I have had over the last 30 years of car ownership: - Every estimate on when a repair would be done was short by at least a day if not a week or more. I several times had to rearrange work, childcare, and arrange rides in advance only to have them say the car isn't ready the day I was expecting it. - They never called me in advance to tell me the car wouldn't be ready in time, every time I only found out because I called to check near the end of the estimated window. - Sometimes my car wouldn't be actually ready when I got there despite them saying it was on the phone and I would have to wait sometimes up to an hour for them to finish up, again severely impacting the day I had to reschedule around the pickup. - Because issues kept arising after the I dropped the car off, I often would not get written estimates, which makes it is super convenient for them to say whatever they want at the end when I have no choice but to sign to get my car back. It feels like one of the ways they are trying to avoid taking responsibility. - Things kept magically happening to them that "wasn't their fault" and though they said the apologetic words they are extremely defensive and unwilling to take any sort of blame when things happen like their own mechanics not showing up for work/leaving early or parts regularly being damaged or late in delivery. Or they would offer no real reason for why things were taking longer than they said they should other than "it's just how things go" and "I should just cut them a break". Repeatedly. - They kept offering discounts on new problems that arose without offering any alternatives and then if I accepted the unprompted offer they would often hold the fact they "did me a favor" over my head when I had problems with how the repairs were going later. - New problems kept arising after just a few miles after leaving from a previous repair, always magically not their fault but hey, here's a discount! - Some instances they were clearly rushed and shouldn't have accepted my car but they seemingly won't refuse any work no matter how busy they are (which helps make all the estimates wrong I bet). I really should have trusted my instincts and took my car somewhere else when I had a bad feeling about those instances, because those jobs they made mistakes on (that they wouldn't admit to of course). - I don't think the one guy I ever really spoke to remembered my name until months in when I was getting obviously frustrated, despite spending thousands of dollars there I still had to be very clear about which car and issue it was when I called before their was any recognition. Frankly, I should have read some of the other bad reviews here before I went there as it sounds like a lot of this isn't new. They have also done business as Asian Auto Repair & Foreign Engines and the reviews on the BBB website are also very telling. read more

Contractor assures the homeowner that the back sunroom roof area will not be used as a platform to walk on or to be used as an area for placing roofing materials. This is a follow up to my previous posting about the work done by Japanese Auto Service and Import Engine on my 2002 Suzuki Grand Vitara vehicle, for which I later took them to court. Update: I won my cases, every penny I had paid out to them, parts and labor. I'd like consumers to understand their rights. Before doing business with anyone ask about their warranties. In my case, Japanese Auto Service and Import Engine didn't have anything in writing, so I requested that they write down on their documentation their warranty and sign that information. Therefore, I won my case because of this information. Don't be afraid to ask and if a business doesn't offer a warranty for their labor I wouldn't do business with them, it's not worth it. There are generally warranties of all kinds on parts, mostly with the manufacture, ask for the documentation that generally comes with the part. Be sure to have a discussion prior to their services to receive all the manufactures information on the parts installed, even if it's printed on the outside of the box. Make it clear that this is a requirement for doing business with them. Also get the business information on where they have purchased their parts. They're not going to give their receipts, because they generally are going to mark up the costs of the part, but they should at least tell you where they made the purchase. Never take No for an answer. And, if you do have to take someone to court, always have backup information such as two or more estimates to fix the faulty work. I mention this, because this business earlier doing medication only wanted to return their labor on the Rack-n-pinon part and charge me for the part at which they marked up more than 350%. Before going to court, I printed of internet information on the costs of that part for the judge to see how they were asking for their marked-up costs and not the actual cost of the part. It worked and it demonstrated to the judge how this business was trying to rip me of for a second time. In the long run, CYA. read more

Attempted to make several appointments practically begged him to let me throw money at you and he continuously flaked, saying he has too much going on yet he never seems to be doing anything when you show up and he will look at your car and pretend like he is doing something and then say yeah come back next week and then dodge all calls. read more

About two weeks after I got the truck home, I started to find all kinds of things wrong with it. If I had been a little more observant, I would have either kept my little Mazda truck, or had them knock off at least $2000.00. It is going to cost me at least that much to trust it any distance. Spoke to Al, which I believe is the owner earlier last week or so.. he gave a quote for how much it would cost for the labor to change my headlight assembly. He suggested it would be much cheaper to buy the parts somewhere or even on Amazon. I did as he suggested and the parts got delivered earlier than expected and when I called to schedule an appointment, I spoke to Ross on the 12th (Friday) around noon, he said I could bring it by after 5p. I arrive around 5:30p but he has just stepped out to run some errands, but Aaron took my eyes and I left my name/number. Spoke to Ross the following morning and they were working on my car. It was done a little after 3p. Although this place closes on the weekdays (6pm) and Saturday by 3pm. A lot of the times they seem to stay longer to finish. My car headlights look amazing and I'm extremely impressed and happy about the outcome. It was less than a day and this repair shop is less than a 5 minute drive from my home. Thank you to their team - I will be a returning customer. I had both called and went into Mazda service shop, other repair shops and all in including parts and labor. They were going to charge me more than double.. glad I found this place. read more

This place should be out of business! Totally dishonest. I called and talked to the business owner Ross about what was going on with my car and he assured me he could help. I brought my vehicle in and within 2 minutes of having it up on the lift Ross was trying to tell me I had several other issues other than what I brought it in for. This seemed very fishy to me so I declined having them do the work. I was finally able to get an appointment with my regular mechanic and upon inspection they confirmed my suspicions that Ross was indeed full of it! The owner is a liar! AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS! Trash. Every time I got my car back from this place there was something wrong or something not put back together right. They charged me less than half of what they originally were yes but I guess I got what I payed for. I've brought my car back and fourth to this place THREE times. The latest tim, they fixed a few issues I was having and told me My car runs fine now and is ready to go. I get to TV highway and my car stalls out. They also didn't put my inspection panels on correctly my cruise control box was not on right hanging on by one bolt. They also burnt part of my cruise control box. They also advised me they cannot keep taking my car in for free repairs.... That they caused. Trash place take your business somewhere else. My car still doesn't run right and they basically told me it's my problem now because they don't know how to fix it read more

My first visit was 2-3 years ago and the service was good. I recently went there to have my front steering checked and they stated that I had a cracked bushing. To fix it meant replacing the lower control arm. They charged me over $500 for this repair. They are not capable to do an alignment. I took my car to Les Schwab for the alignment. I explained that the control arm was replaced. The mechanic then asked me why the other lower control arm was not replaced since it also has a cracked bushing. I was quite surprised! And that's when it hit me that I was scammed! Les Schwab replaced the other control arm for about $200. Whatever you do, do not use this company. read more

Please don't trust this shop with your car or money. I had them diagnose and replace a leaking clutch master cylinder 11 months ago and they returned my car to me with a greasy interior and a dead battery as well as a bill for $440. This week the master cylinder went out on me and now I can't drive the car. I gave them a call to let them know what happened and to ask about my options. They said they wouldn't refund anything but they would let me pay for a tow truck and after that pay them again to put in a new master cylinder. I reached out to Al and got it done the same day(Compressor replacement). Customer satisfaction is their highest focus. I was greeted by Al who is the owner, great attitude, and a pleasure to work with. Japanese auto service is by far the best mechanic that I've been to, a little out of my way as I live in Gresham but worth the extra drive . After researching other repair shops in the area and being taken advantage of and ripped off in other shops (only to return with the same problem) , I found this one to be the most reasonably priced with amazing service and got the job done right . I didn't feel like I was pressured to buy any additional services that weren't needed or asked for. Al and his team were quick and professional about returning my car when I needed it. This is my second time taking my '10 Civic to Japanese Auto & Engine Sales & Service. The service, honesty and reliability is outstanding. Both times the service has been quick and vastly cheaper than other area mechanics. He actually told me that I shouldn't get a particular item fixed because I was going to be selling my car. Obviously it's nothing detrimental to the functionality of my car, but still - a mechanic saying to hold off on a repair?! I live in Central Oregon for half the week and am already going to be bringing my husband's volvo to him for a tune up. He services all makes and models.
