I didn't choose Reliable as my mover. I contacted Allied Van Lines but they are a broker that referred my move to Reliable. I got my initial date range to receive my things at my destination in NC and moved it to an earlier date, so I'd have my furniture before Christmas. The day of my move, the movers were three hours late. I finally got to my destination and figured that I'd get settled in and my things would get here soon after. A lot of people were asking when my things would get here, and I noticed that no one contacted me. I reached out via email to find out that the truck carrying my things broke down. The driver was waiting to find out what la wrong, and everything I own is sitting somewhere stationary. There will not be a different truck going to get my things. I don't know how long it would have taken them to even let me know this was going on had I not called. So is another truck bringing my things to meet the agreed timeline? No. Will I have my furniture by Christmas? No, and I will probably ring in the new year with no furniture. Did they give me an updated estimate on when my things will arrive? No. What did they tell me? There's nothing they can do, and gave me the pleasure of knowing that'll I'll still be paying full price for the move and have to submit claims to see if I can get any money refunded. Allied really needs to choose better moving companies. Reliable is an ironic name. Please do yourself the favor of declining and choosing someone else. read more

DO NOT USE Takes Advantage of Customers, Seniors and Persons With Disabilities - as a disabled person I paid thousands of dollars to have Reliable Van and Storage Allied Van Lines move me from my home in NJ into their storage in NJ for 10 months, then into my new home in SC. While unloading the final Pieces of furniture, othey were all damaged, antique table legs beyond repair, craftique Mahogany Bedroom set damaged and then workers stopped to take a marijuana break leaving me to finish myself. The driver claimed pieces were damaged at the warehouse. When filing a claim employees keep directing you to Allied claims who rarely respond to calls. In all I received a check for $156.00 for thousands of dollars in damages and $250 for having to deal with a pot head work crew. Company arrived and started throwing things in boxes without any consultation. Used extra sized boxes and threw things in haphazardly, up-charging me along the way. I can't even begin to explain the nightmare they caused by taking advantage of an old woman trying to relocate! They packed more than they were asked to and then threatened to seize the extra goods if I didn't pay for them! Then they charged me 3 times the initial quote and charged me extra yet again when my things arrived, and my kids ended up doing the last part of the move themselves! They offered me a very small amount of money to remove the last complaint, and then blew me off when I responded that I wanted a better refund. They did not completely pack those items that they were supposed to pack (they were left behind in the move out of my former house), and they lost items that were supposed to be delivered to my new house. And, worse, they are not paying the insurance claim for those lost items. I was left on the hook for those items lost (valued at over $2,500) with no recourse. Further, the delivery date was well late of my move-in date to my new house, meaning that I was without furniture, etc. for two weeks. Horrible service! First estimate was $4,500, but when the mover actually came they charged an extra $3,000 because they said it was too much stuff. They clearly under-packed multiple boxes. They would put a view items in each large box and then stuff it with paper. There were multiple boxes with only a few items! Ridiculous! Supervisor/foreman was super shady and got angry when I argued with him. Asked to take a picture of my stuff in the truck and he refused. Asked for a portion of the estimate in cash which I did not have because I wasn't expecting it to be $3,000 more. Got angry and would not give the contract, inventory, or even a receipt of the cash he received and just left. When I asked for his name, he gave a fake name! I would never use reliable again. I had called Allied and they referred us to a broker who gave us a price and then when the contract came in it was significantly more. When my husband called they suddenly agreed to the lower price. They then handed it over to reliable van lines. We only had a few pieces of furniture and one box that we were sending from CT to my daughters new home in CA. I told them it had to be there the first week in September because she was moving on September 5th. Not only did they lie about assuring me it would get there on time, it didn't arrive until September 10th and they only sent one man who refused to move the furniture upstairs where it belonged. He left everything in the garage and now my daughter who is a single Mom has to figure out how to get it upstairs to the rooms. Reliable is anything but reliable. I would never use them again no matter how cheap they are. You would think that they would at least send two men so that things can be put where they belong and also keep to the schedule that was promised. read more

We moved from CT to IL in July. Reliable gave us a quote via a phone call, and came in with the lowest price. Unfortunately, our load was underestimated significantly by the estimator and we did have to pay extra after it was loaded due to that, but the final price was still competitive with the other quotes and the increase was reasonable. But otherwise, the movers themselves were excellent. Brent was friendly and handled our items expertly. The under-estimate and the size of our apartment complex meant it took the two movers over 8 hours to load everything, but they stayed until the job was done. It was also 95 degrees outside - we were very thankful for their help. Unloading was excellent too - they arrived within the window and it went much quicker thankfully. The only thing they did well were the supervisors knew how to apologize for the incompetence, insolence and lies of the men in the field, but even the supervisors were incompetent!!! Insisted that a piece of furniture could not be moved to a second floor when the next day an inexperienced handyman was able to complete the move that I paid twice for! Reliable Van and Storage charged us more than $22,000 for a full service pack, ship and unpack to move from NJ to MA. They failed to pack our goods in the manner agreed, many items were damaged, not taken care of, and destroyed, and they also failed to unpack our goods. Further, the workers that were hired and that were in our home did not follow COVID-19 guidelines such as wearing masks, and were repeatedly rude to our family. We have documented numerous examples of the terrible job performed by Reliable Van and Storage, and they have acknowledged they did not perform the services which were agreed to in our contract. However, despite this acknowledgement they have not provided a refund. I would not recommend using this company as they do not provide the agreed upon or paid for services. Quick follow-up: Please note that Reliable does not post any reviews on their website that are not 5 star. I have written a review on their site that they have refused to post. I would think twice about using this company. I had a storage unit delivered to my home through SmartBox. The vehicle that was being used to move the unit into place broke down in my driveway and reminded there for over 4 hours. I repeatedly called SmartBox and Reliable to get this resolved. Reliable told me someone from their facility would be coming to fix it, but no one ever showed up. The driver told us he was out of gas and went on his lunch break. We went and bought gas for the driver, but that was not an issue. It wasn't until we threatened to call a towing company did Reliable send another company to come fix it. I was assured that day that my delivery fee would be waived due to the mess of the day. However, that did not happen and they later refused the refund. The whole experience was a blame game and was handled very unprofessionally. I was told the driver was fired as if that makes the situation any better. I am jealous of the other posters who had such favorable experiences. read more

Not very good. My Venetian glass, statue of St. Michael, the glass to my Monet and Cezanne pictures were broken. Mind you, I gave each of the movers in Jersey City $50 tips, totally $150, with plenty of Gatorade and water. Use Flat Rate movers, which I have used four times without any incident. Based upon the response from Reliable, it appear Coleman did the shipping but Reliable did the packing at my Jersey City residence, which the originating point I believe the majority of the fault is most likely Reliable, the people who did pack my things: my Venetian glass, which was inexplicably packed under big heavy books and poorly wrapped. read more

Do not use Reliable Movers/Allied Van Lines in Elizabeth NJ - they are anything but reliable - they are dishonest, destructive and don't honor their insurance agreements. Photos attached as evidence. The story - please forward to everyone and anyone. We moved from NYC to Florida in May. The movers were negligent and handles our boxes poorly once they were loaded on the truck. Our possessions arrived two weeks later than promised and many items were broken or missing. Despite the fact that we paid additional money to insure our items and were told that we had nine months to file a claim after delivery... Reliable Movers of Elizabeth NJ TOOK NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE BROKEN AND MISSING ITEMS AND REFUSED TO COMPENSATE US. The full story: Our household items were picked up on Saturday, May 18, 2019. We paid an additional fee for a Saturday Pick up. Stickers were put on every item and identified on multiple log sheets. The copies of the log sheets were not legible due to the ineffective carbon copies. We were told that everything would be delivered by on May 21-24. They were going to confirm the date on Monday, May 20. We called repeatedly and received no response. After 8 days we were finally told that the truck had broken down. The items were not delivered until JUNE 3. The truck had gotten so hot when broken down that our rubbermaid tubs melted and many were broken. (See the attached photos.) Upon delivery we asked to see the original list of box numbers so that we could check off the boxes as they were brought into our apt. There were many boxes where the stickers had fallen off in the EXTREME HEAT. We were concerned about the number of boxes that seemed to be missing and were told that we needed to sign that the boxes had been delivered because there was nothing that Paul Mugo (the mover) could do at that time and that we had nine months to place a claim for any missing or broken items. Needless to say things were missing and items in the crushed boxes had been broken. We filed a claim about six weeks after the items were delivered. Despite our insurance and their guarantees RELIABLE/ALLIED VAN LINES QUICKLY AND CATEGORICALLY DENIED ALL OF OUR CLAIMS. We used Reliable to move a 4000 sq ft home from NoHo to Las Vegas. They had us tag and list high value items. We had about 10 or 12 to they said we needed extra insurance. Fine, we got what they stated we needed from them. Upon arrival one of our high value lamps ($2000 from Italy) wouldn't turn on. Upon seeing that they had unscrewed the poles so they could pack in into a box and reassembled it upon arrival I suspected that the internal wiring got twisted so badly it ripped away from the switches. We made a claim the day of delivery. Over a month later and inspector came out and fiddled with the lamp. He tooks notes and left. Another month later we got a letter that it was not covered because ''sometimes things get damaged during shipment and that's normal". I finally took the lamp apart and sure enough it's exactly what I had assumed - the wiring was so twisted that the surface mounted PC board switches were torn right off the PC board. Absolutely their fault but I have no recourse. So although the team was friendly, showed up on time and delivered on time I cannot recommend them due to this scam insurance system. read more

I moved from Connecticut to Chicago. The price was $6500. My pick-up home had a hole in the wall after they packed the dining room. The man in charge told me that did not do it. These guys were doing a move in our building and were very inconsiderate and breaking rules. They locked out the larger elevator and then also used the 2nd elevator so others couldn't. The 2nd elevator is not for moving and didn't get padded. The mover pretended to not know what "you can't use both elevators" means. Then even left stuff in the elevator unattended so yet again no one could use the elevator which was riding up and down filled with furniture. I would not use or recommend these guys in Jersey City Hoboken area. They seem clueless. I also saw a white sofa shoved in the back of their truck without any protective blankets. read more

These guys showed up on time but were really hard to work with. I had them move me from an apartment that I was not there for however, I had a represenative there. They promised they would be able to do the whole move for me including packing EVERYTHING. They never once said they could not take down curtains off rods, take down shelves, not pack spices or liquids such as essential oils, perfumes, wine, liquor. Their excuse was they didn't have a ladder to get the curtains down and already packed my chairs so couldn't stand on them. I moved quite a bit over the years and my expectations were never high since I've had some awful moves. I decided to pay a bit more this time around an the quality followed. From start to finish this move was smooth and painless.. the crew arrived and immediately put my fears to rest. Absolutely the single worst moving company that I have EVER dealt with. We moved cross country twice with Allied previously and had incredible easy, painless moves; but, when we were forced to work with Reliable in our move out of New York we got a completely different experience. 1. They refused to come out to estimate our apartment visually and instead relied on us telling them what we had. We were extremely thorough and triple checked our list only being off in our estimate by 5 boxes. Yet they ended up under guessing the weight of our shipment by a thousand pounds. Than tried to back out of the guaranteed price by charging us an extra thousand dollars after they picked up our goods. After yelling at them on the phone for an hour we got it down to five hundred. 2. The office is completely inept. They sent the driver/moving crew out with an estimate that was 1500 pounds of space needed when our signed agreement was 3000. So the driver said he couldn't move it on the day agreed upon three weeks previous even though we we were scheduled to fly out the next day. They were rude, stressful and took HOURS to get back to us. 3. They complained during the entire pack. We packed everything other than the major furniture, labeled it, and gathered it all in one room for them. Previous moving crews praised us for making it so easy. These guys threatened us to charge more, talked down to us, and were completely rude. 4. The representatives you are forced to work with don't care about you, your money, or your stress. They literally tried to say that I should be more stressed out about wars and famine instead of my moving needs. Pathetic! Its my possessions and my money at stake. Take it seriously. 5. When the driver came to drop off our stuff we had communicated to the office that they will need to down size the truck due to space. The office didn't tell the driver and as a result we had to wait an additional four hours for the driver to take the semi back, unload onto a smaller truck, and move it back out. 6. I understand losing a cardboard box or two; but, they lost major, distinctive things like a unique minimalist side table and custom built bike. How do you lose that? This is by far the most unprofessional company I have ever dealt with in my entire life. We have payed quite an extremely inflated rate for pick up, storage and delivery of our apartment to our new home. Once they showed up to our home by then end of the move 1/2 of our most expensive furniture was missing. Couch,Bed frame, dressers, entertainment center, and the guys delivering were extremely apologetic. Not to mention our bed was covered in completely in dirt. When trying to get someone on the phone they were screening calls and bouncing me from one person to another. I finally got the "owner" Peter Toscano Jr on the phone who was more rude and disrespectful then any of the staff previously spoke too. He would not agree to having the mattress they ruined fixed or to deliver the remainder of the materials that THEY DID NOT BRING THE FIRST TIME till we made full payment. They also will not file a claim for liability for the materials broken during delivery until we made full payment. I was accused of trying to scam them ( by the owner) because I did not want to pay for services that were incomplete. The men who delivered the furniture were let go because they told us that the things that were damaged were a result of improper storage witch they had nothing to do with. BEWARE: Use these movers at your peril! I had the worst moving experience possible with these people. I know if I did my job as badly and cavalierly as these people I would be fired. In a country where the unemployment rate is 9% it's amazing these people are still in business. Very unfortunate experience overall. Specifics: Movers literally dumped boxes of clothes, books and other items on the floor and on my bed, claiming they were "unpacking" them but were not authorized to put books or clothes on shelves. It's one thing to carefully unpack and neatly pile clothing, quite another to literally tip over boxes, dumping the contents Half way through the job, the foreman refused to continue unpacking until I had written and signed the check for payment. I guess other customers have had such lousy experiences they have refused to pay Movers were highly discourteous and spent more time telling me what they couldn't do or weren't allowed to do than being helpful with unloading and unpacking Movers were incredibly slow in unloading the moving truck. I later learned from the doorman and super of the building that they were taking breaks outside on the sidewalk Movers had no tools with them so were unable to properly assemble furniture items like tables Many of the moving boxes were the wrong way up, causing clothes to fall off hangars and be totally creased The foreman tried unsuccessfully to bully me into giving him good scores on the client rating of the experience, which of course I didn't Movers left a mess: the sidewalk outside, on which they littered, the lobby of the building, the landing area outside my apartment. We had to keep nagging for information on when the movers were coming, if we needed to prep anything in advance, what time. We used Allied (Reliable Van Lines) for a move from NJ to CA that included storage at their facility. Our belongings were received damaged . There was significant water damage (unknow source) and breakage including items crated by them. Despite paying additional money for full replacement value insurance, they have been unwilling to repair or replace everything they damaged. They are also been unwilling to provide a clear explanation of the settlement (despite repeated request). I could not recommend Reliable Van to anyone under any circumstances. I have had reason to use movers 12 times in the last 17 years so I know what should happen and how long it should take to happen. All of my moves have been 850-1100sf apartments/homes. Nothing fancy. My experience started with a 75 minute phone call with George to get an estimate. At first, I was impressed by the thoroughness of the call. However, in retrospect, it didn't matter what I said on that call because they were going to overcharge me anyway (I'll get to that.) I was informed of the many items that Reliable refuses to move unless you pay them to put your items in THEIR special (aka expensive) box (lamps, art, tvs, anything glass, etc.) Some of this was reasonable but other items (like my cheap lamps) they wouldn't even move with a signed waiver. I was offered wardrobe boxes during this call as well. I informed George that I did not need any. He said that he'd include them in my estimate but wouldn't charge me if I didn't use them. I DIDN'T USE THEM AND I WAS CHARGED. Anyway, my initial quote was for $1150. Once the movers arrived they were taking their time doing absolutely every bit of the move. It was painfully slow. My husband and I documented (yes, we took pictures) the three movers taking smoke breaks, leaving our truck open and unattended, leaving our stuff out in various hallways unattended. . . and that was if we could even find them. They disappeared on us 3 different times. The movers tried to tell us that they couldn't move some smaller items unless we used their (pricey) boxes (air purifier, fan, etc.) We ended up taking two FULL car loads to our new home and unloading ourselves because they refused to take so much stuff. When we left point A the lead mover informed me that they have the right to an hour for lunch. I had previously been told 30 minutes plus travel time but whatever. Over TWO HOURS after leaving Point A they showed up at Point B. No explanation was provided as to why they took an hour and 45 minutes for lunch (+travel time.) Once the move was completed they began putting our bed back together. It took an additional 90 minutes to put our bed back together. I have no idea why it took 3 men with power tools that long to put a bed back together. All in all the movers were with us for 11 hours minus their 2 hour lunch. There was no reason in the world it should have taken 9 hours for our move. The original estimate (which I was told was "worst case scenario") was for 6 hours/$1150. They wanted me to pay an additional $400 for their inefficiency. Of course, they wanted to charge us for all the extra hours. I called and complained after the fact to my move coordinator (Barb.) She was kind enough on the phone, apologized and told me she would look into it. However, I never heard from her again. I was not charged for the extra hours because I called to complain. But, I WAS charged for wardrobe boxes I never used. Those charges were not reversed. Again, let me say, I have moved many times. I have it down to a science. I know how to pack so nothing breaks. . . I know what is easiest for movers . . . and I like to make the whole process as simple and painless as possible. I have never once complained about movers. . as a matter of fact, I usually am the person who calls after the fact to let management know what a great job the movers did. I would strongly discourage anyone from working with Reliable for personal moves. read more

This was my 3rd move with Reliable and they did not disappoint. The first was North Carolina to NJ and the other two were local moves. Most recently, Jake and his crew were the fastest movers East of the Mississippi! They were on-time, friendly, funny, helpful, and highly experienced. They were a top-notch moving team and it was much appreciated since I had a large move with over 100+ boxes and 2 entertainment units and a dining room table unassembled by their team. Also, they were most appreciative of the tip amount, which I thought was less than they deserved, but we ran out cash and didn't have time to run to the ATM. Also, Gavin was fairly accurate on the time it would take to move. The only negative is they don't offer moves on Sundays (I thought weekends were the busiest days for moving) and they had some paperwork discrepancies that we had to resolve (no biggie and they eventually resolved it fairly quickly). For starters we hired allied moving company to move our property from our home into storage. We heard crashes when they were loading the truck, but alas what we were suppose to but cross our fingers. The summer help they sent were truly unprofessional. They left about six car loads of items we had to take to the dump that we wanted move!!!! When we got out our stuff delivered, we still had hope, however that hope has been destroyed. Broken glasses, broken collectors items, a grandfather clock packed incorrectly and that won't work now, a glass for to a cabinet broken, and so much more. The guys who delivered our property were ginger with it, show respect (something the first crew did not) and brought most of it the right rooms. So we know who's at fault for breaking our items. I was assured 1 truck would surface my move, Vin there sales rep felt confident and I know nothing about trucks and their size and relied on his expertise. He came to my home and made a manifest of my belongings. Then..... the day of the move, they showed up late , I was told all my stuff would fit in their truck.... that didn't happen and I was told I was being cheap trying to avoid paying for 2 trucks, great! I have no clue what size trucks moving companies use, you hope they have some idea? Not reliable, they are anything but, they damaged my grandmothers antique secretary, damaged the walls of my new home and after being told not to put anything without pads on my newly sand floor , ignored me and damaged that too. At 4 pm , I was asked to pay for their service , then was then told their office closed at 2, they werent able to accept my credit card and if I did not give them cash they would take my furniture and charge my for overnight storage and double usage of their truck. I left my disabled daughter in charge ,While I got lost looking for a bank in my new neighborhood. my boxes marked fragile were carelessly stack and made rattling sounds while I unpacked afterwards. Too much awfulness to mention, my neighbors had to help me .....they made 4 furniture trips with their SUV...I made another 3 . I informed the movers to leave the armoire and couch for the new owners if we were short on space. They yanked and broke the armoires-doors and moved the couch anyway, oh wait I tipped them bought them donuts water and gaterade. So glad my move is over, I told my husband the next time I'm moving it's to a nursing home! read more

I've done several moves via Reliable once through my spouse's work moving overseas about 9 years ago and more recently this November independently for a cross country move. We had pretty good experiences before so decided to go with Reliable again. I was a little hesitant doing an independent move as I thought the service wouldn't compare via a corporate sponsored move. However I was pleasantly surprised to see that recent experience was as good as our corporate sponsored move via Reliable. I did research several other movers and another company came in about $1.5K under Reliable but I'm glad we went with Reliable. We moved a 2 bedroom apartment in NYC to Los Angeles in November. From the first conversation with their sales to the completion of delivery of our goods in Los Angeles, the communication was easy and great. We worked with Jon who gave me an accurate estimate over the phone after I filled out an initial inventory form. I reached out approximately 2 months before the actual move date so there was no problem setting a date for the pick up. Then Jessica coordinated with my building to get all the documents ready for the move date. When it came to the actual move the team headed by Dan and a crew of 3 people packed up our whole place which also included disassembling the furniture. The team was great, speedy and careful with packing and even was able to disassemble all our furniture. They were careful to take safety precautions due to Covid. Dan was the truck operator and he gave me his phone number so that we could stay in touch for when the shipment reached Los Angeles. Jessica also contacted me a couple days before the shipment arrived confirming the date and time of arrival. The shipment took around a week which I thought was quite speedy but that would depend on how many deliveries the truck has. The day of the delivery I got a call from Dan and he and his crew delivered the shipment, unpacked everything with our help and reassembled the furniture and took away all the boxes and packing material. The California crew was also great to work with, hard working and efficient. Most of our belongings arrived in great condition with the exception of a few dishes and a missing toolbox. But for a cross country move I was extremely pleased with the service and quality of the move. They made a stressful time very manageable. I have two kids and pets and Reliable allowed my spouse and I to take care of all the other things that go with a cross country move instead of worrying about the actual move itself. read more

I hate packing and moving, but they really made this stress-free They meticulously and efficiently packed all of our stuff (including dishes, electronics, musical instruments, furniture and more). Everything was wrapped in paper &/or plastic, then placed in thick cardboard boxes. Items were handled carefully, they were never rough with my stuff. I have to start by saying this was my first experience with a moving company so I was skeptical to begin with. The cost involved is huge and we cannot be sure we are getting the service we expect. I have also read some of these other reviews and can say I am happy I didn't read them before I moved! We just completed an interstate move from NJ to N.C. which also included storing our belongings for 1 month while we waited for our new home to be completed. I called 3 different movers for quotes and Reliable's estimate was our mid point quote. Due to COVID we did the estimate through FaceTime while I showed what we were moving and explained that we were packing ALL contents of the house ourselves. From the start I had a sense of calm from signing the contract to when the movers arrived. They protected our previous home (stairs, doorways and railings) while they moved our furniture out. They meticulously wrapped every piece of furniture including 2 curio cabinets! And they did it all in under 6 hours for a 1600 sq ft home! Then when we finally closed on our new home, exactly 4 weeks later, a team of guys from NJ drove our belongings to N.C. and arrived at our house 10 minutes after we did on the day of closing! This crew was just as great carrying a large portion of our furniture up a corner staircase to the 2nd floor!! Unloading also took about 6 hrs as well, which included a break for dinner and lots of water as it was 90 degrees!! I can happily say we only had 2 minor scratches on items and nothing was broken or lost, which was a concern of mine considering our items were in storage and handled more than once. I will be honest and state that we did have some minor damage to my staircase walls when moving in due to the size and weight of some of the pieces that were moved upstairs. (A 600 pound gun safe was 1 item as well as numerous large exercise equipment pieces) BUT, I got estimates for the damage and Reliable came through with compensation to have my walls repaired and repainted!
