Reliance Appliance responded quickly to our service call, and the two technicians were prompt and courteous. However, the bid they supplied was not itemized between the cost for parts and the cost for labor. When I called the company to get a breakdown, they refused, saying they no longer provided that information because it "confused customers." The total estimate for replacing the rotor and motor in our washing machine was $1050. I researched the cost of the parts at about $60, and further research said the average time to install these parts would be 2-3 hours. No wonder they didn't want to itemize! We ate the $150 service call fee and bought a comparable new machine for 60% of what the total repair bill would have been. read more

I bought the replacement lights for my JennAir fridge and the water filter. The technician came with the intension of getting paid $225 for his time, regardless of the parts I provided. He did have to remove the freezer door and remove all the food out in order to replace the light but it seemed really expensive for doing that. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe it would have been that much no matter who I called. Oh well! read more

Of all the service vendors who replied to me, Reliance Appliance was the only one that was honest with me up front, explaining that he needed to know the model number of my icemaker because not all Samsung icemakers can be repaired. None of the other service vendors mentioned this to me and, had I chosen them, I would've had to pay for a visit only to possibly find out that my icemaker couldn't be repaired. As it turned out, John determined that he could repair my icemaker, but I've decided to put it off due to cost and just bought some ice cube trays. After they didn't work, we discussed an appointment time but as I explained the age of my refrigerator, John suggested that it may not be worth fixing and even offered suggestions on brands and types to look for on our new purchase. Our washing machine made a terrible sound after we had unloaded it off a moving truck, and John came out to discover the movers had packed a pillow into the back to cushion the drum. For his very reasonable base visit fee, he removed the pillow, tested the machine, and did a courtesy check on the other new appliances in the home while giving pointers on how to prolong the life of each appliance. Our Maytag Commercial dryer stopped drying. We got the vent cleaned - still didn't work. Called John Pundt at Reliance Appliance. John arrived quickly, was very professional, tore down the machine, located the issue (burnt out element - which he had ON HAND), tested all the other potential issues, cleaned the machine thoroughly, reassembled it carefully, ran a series of tests including checking the output air flow rate. Reached out to a number of appliance repair professionals through Yelp and John from Reliance Appliance was the only vendor to follow up. His initial reach out offered to let me know the part number and shared it was a simple DIY repair (I.e. no money earned for him), but upon further conversation it seemed like an issue best handled by a professional. We set up an appointment the following week and he was punctual, efficient and invoiced me for the amount he originally estimated - which I felt was very reasonable. This was the worst experience I have had with a repairman, as I found the owner took advantage of my age (67) and gender (female) to convince me to pay over $300 to fix a washer that I had to replace less than 2 months later. In fact, he told my housemate (a young male) that he would not have recommended fixing the washer had he met him instead of me. He was reluctant to move the washer for me, or to return because of further leaking. More appalling than losing $300 was to experience ageist and sexist behavior from a young man I trustingly invited into my home, and whose opinion I innocently believed. read more
