Needed service on my 2009 Ford Escape "brake system". Im a new resident in Pittsburgh, wasn't sure where to go, so I googled repair shops near me, Reliance Auto Service was first on my feed. Read their reviews and made a decision to take my vehicle to them based on their numerous five stars. I took my car to the shop at 9am, the front desk clerks man and woman were both very helpful, patient, and accommodating; the mechanics as well. I explained to them my car issues, they gave me a quote, by the end of the day my car was fixed (they were very busy). It's been almost a week, my car is running great, back to normal. Went to this place twice with the same problem. The first time they recharged my A/C, after me telling them it had already gotten recharged. They recharged it anyway, no work up or to see is there any leak they charged me $352. 3 months later it was running hot again brought it back and they said a leak. They supposedly fixed it and kept my car for a week and charged me $972 and they broke my windshield which was another $249. And a week later it's running hot again I refusing to pay. Reliance Auto Service, Pablo did a great job fixing my vehicle. I had no AC for 2 years and now i needed it fixed. I didn't know to turn to so i called and asked who he would recommend. He told me we now do AC service, when i brought it in his mechanics diagnosis the problem fixed it. I asked him if he could check my front brakes because another retsilertoldme that i needed front brakes and he informed me you still have meat on those brakes. Pablo is honest, and showed me what mechanics lack is being honest and doing a great job. He didn't take advantage and thats what lacks in todays mechanics. My biggest concern with visiting a mechanic is the looming "am I going to get ripped off?" feeling in the back of my mind. I have been going to reliance for over 10 years because the owner was always transparent about what needed to be fixed, and would only perform a repair after I was informed, and left me feeling good about our transaction. After the previous owner retired, I continued coming to the shop and have been pleased that they continue to provide the same honest service I have been able to trust. They are very friendly, are transparent with any repairs that need to be done, and offer honest transactions at a good value. For example, I just brought one of my cars in for a brake change, and he let me know that he was able to sand down the rotors rather than completely needing to replace them, which saved me over $100. Another time, I brought my Camaro SS in for a brake job. It requires high performance brakes which can be pricey, but I ended up paying less than half of what Chevrolet dealerships quoted me. As a result, I will continue to visit Reliance for all of my automotive needs. read more

ABSOLUTE RIP OFF. I should have done my due diligence and read reviews first because I can certainly agree with everyone saying these people just failed their smog off visual inspections and charged them. If you call this place or ask them how long the wait is.. there probably isn't one because people don't want to go to businesses that operate like this. Went in to get our SUV smogged, failed it over a catch can that does not require EO carb sticker in the first place and didn't notify me until AFTER the fact. Instead of telling me, letting me fix the issue then re-smogging, they failed it and charged me. Such an inconvenience to deal with. Complete scammers. Will be reporting to BAR. Edit: they called back, said they were incorrect and offered to resmog my car. I declined and they refunded me my money. read more

Came in, and im gonna be honest im driving an old piece of shit 2000 corrolla but.. regardless if i come in needing an inspection or work done of some sort, INSPECT, do your job! Drove up and dude didnt even look into ANYTHING before claiming my car didnt have a brake problem but a transmission problem. I told him that its a brake problem but then again im not a mechanic so i wont argue with a self proclaimed one, however there was no effort to assist me. Just trash. If you dont wanna do something just be honest and say that. There was no effort in servicing my needs or concerns. Never again. Update: so i went to Pittsburg auto and turns out i was right. I had some work done on my older truck. I had a catalytic converter installed and needed a Test only smog test. Owner told me to drive it a bit. I drove it over 100 miles and return to do a smog test. This is my 2nd attempt to get smog done for this truck. Apparently the wife took a scanner out to my truck. I did not see where she plugged in the scanner but she told me to drive it for another week before coming back for a test. It is a waste of my time to even bother coming back to this shop. I called another shop and owner told me only 1996 and newer needs to have computer scanned with a OBD2 scanner. I paid for a Test only already but would rather pay another shop to do the job correctly and promptly. This shop has the worse customer service I have ever seen. I am totally unhappy with all the running around and time wasted waiting. I hope other customers who have had a terrible experience spread the word to their friends and family to not go to this shop because they really don't care about taking care of repeat customers at all. My regret was to even let them install my catalytic converter. I had to leave my truck overnight when other shop would just put me next in line to be serviced. Not this shop. On my 1st try, I had customers who happened to come in after me got their smog test done and left way before my truck was even looked at. So based on my own experience, I would never return back to this shop even though it is closer to my home. read more

Not happy with their service. Extremely bad customer service. Took my car for a smog check. The car fail due to the obd2 computer did not turn during this test due to the car was sitting for a while and the battery died. If he was a good professional Machanic he would have explain and offer to re test after driving the car 15 or 20 miles he did not do this . I rate their service 0 do not go to this place. I went in for a smog for my '12 Toyota Camry. Service was friendly, and professional. They got me in, and out in a timely manner.

I have goin to reliance for years to service my old car and i have found them very accomodating and reliable, not to mention discounted and reasonable pricing. I have no problems with them and i am satisfied with the work they have done. I did my breaks, wheel axel bearings replaced here among other things. No idea why they say this place is a joke when they can't properly explained what kind of service they did to make them give a bad review. read more

$97 for a brake and light inspection. Make sure your front AND rear brakes have been replaced within the last year and have 60% tread. It's $48 if you need another inspection. The staff is friendly but they acted like I didn't want to pay just because I was asking about the price. This place has one of the cheapest inspections I've seen. read more

Went to get my car smog today and apparently my car was not ready to get smog, but they still went ahead and "did" the test. Car ended passing everything except my OBD2 was not ready and he still charged me $49! The guy never mentioned to me that if for any reason my car failed, I would not be able to smog it again for free like other smog places. He said I had to pay full price to retest my car again. Fixed Air Conditioning I brought my car in thinking I probably needed a new compressor for the AC. I had already checked the pressure on the low port side but didn't have equipment to check the rest. They did a diagnostic and arrived at the same conclusion. They did the replacement fast and gave me a good deal. AC works great now! read more

I am 70 years old and know cars. I drive 15 miles to use Reliance rather than many more shops that are closer to me. took my car there for cooling system repair, car now has leaks in more places after they replaced all the hoses, radiator, water pump, and belt. when they removed my radiator, they should have topped off the transmission fluid (about 1-1.5 quarts) they didn't and caused damage to my transmission because of low fluid, their rates are great, but their work is sub par.
