Their marketing tactics are misleading - I'm pretty sure they omit information or don't send you their full explicits terms. When that first bill hits, it will show you the hidden charges that they didn't specifically advertise when you signed up for their plan. Their customer service agents are vague and do not explain their policies well. Even if their agents see things from the customers point of view, they "can't" offer you any reasonable options. I pay my bill on time every month and the prices are astronomical. I made a verbal contractual agreement and have stuck it yet they have not and do not want to take the blame and want to put it on oncor. Reliant energy is not customer friendly at all. They can force you to pay $20 disconnection fee on bills just because you paid the next day after the due day, even if it is an issue of a change in a credit card that had been set up for autopay. It is only normal to have few days of grace after due day because there can always be issues beyond our control. Sadly, Reliant energy extorts customers with $20 late payments fee even if late by one day. read more

After just shy of two years of being a faithful customer, they cold- called me and said my $.12 rate is no longer available and they could lock me in out of $.17 rate which was the best they could do. So I switched as a 50% hike is ridiculous and they hit me with a $300 cancellation fee! They were unwilling to budge or even prorate that amount. When I first got them I was busy at work and trying to keep the lights on... I contacted them and they told me $0.12 per kwh... I was happy with that being my parents had told me that was what they'd paid for years. LOW AND BEHOLD my shock when I read the contract later to $0.18 per kwh. I am partly to blame for not inquiring the pass over charge, but The fact they hid that from me, and now that I'm shopping around and even told them I'd found lower and better for much easier price. I have been a customer of Reliant since 2019, and have had the worst experiences. I have had to change my plan multiple times because my bill would be so outrageous one month, I would be livid and a rep would say it's my fault for choosing the wrong plan, but not to worry they would get me a way better deal (which never ended up being better). My house was 1600 square feet with brand new windows throughout and air conditioning, and my bill was almost always over $200. I was a resident of Fort Worth Texas and when we had the rolling blackouts two winters ago, my power was off for almost 2 days, yet my bill was almost $500. They gave me a lousy $25 "courtesy credit" all because I refused to get off the phone until someone could help me. I just moved and my final bill includes a $295 cancelation fee. I don't know if I was made aware of this, but how am I supposed to plan my contract ending right when I move? Especially when I've had to start my contract over so many times due to poor customer service. I have asked how I can avoid bill surges before and was often recommended the lump payment plan where my bill would have been $245/month no matter what. That's higher than my bill should ever be! And this is the option Reliant employees are given to calm down angry, tired, overcharged customers? I just moved and will be sure to NEVER use Reliant again. I have never felt so strongly in my life about black-listing a company. Do yourself a favor and don't let them make you think you're getting a good deal. They will always not tell you something about your plan that effects how much you will end up paying in the long run. Watch out for getting overcharged, offered a payment arrangement that comes complete with a SWITCH HOLD. I wasn't working, and did not get briefed good on what happens when you don't make the payment on time. Basically, they canceled the payment arrangement, but the left the switch hold, meaning I either had to pay them $1229 or have not service from ANYONE. Watch out for the evil company. read more

I was with Reliant Energy for 2 1/2 years. How can this be a 1 star review then? Well, for the first 2 years, it was a 5 star review. They had the lowest costs, and I never knew about their customer service, never had to speak with them. Then...my contract expired and the rates skyrocketed...this isn't a dig, it's reality...they want you on a contract...all electricity providers do. Couldn't find anything I was happy with. Then, in April 2023, I found another company with a very good deal, so I switched. My service with Reliant ended on April 18th. April 19th, I started getting calls telling me my account was past due and I owed them money. My account was previously on Autopay, never missed a payment. I get it, final bills can be "weird" when processed....but the reality was, I was NOT late, they had NOT even sent the final bill (which I received on Saturday, June 3rd.). I paid the bill today. 1 star for the BS way to handle the final billing. I know...way to ruin what should have been a 5 star review! Why didn't I stay? Simple...great rate offered by another company. Happens everyday, but I wonder if they attack their other customers who are leaving with multiple daily calls for bills that are NOT late. This company destroys my life just because I ask for my deposit to be refunded to me after I respect the them of the contract they send me a fraudulent check. After fees days my bank call me and confirm that the check is fake I call them they said a mistake was made on the check number. But before my bank rejected the check I already used the money to pay all my bills now all the bills that was paid with the check comes back as unpaid bills they reported me to all credit bureau for late payments my credit score went down by 65 points. Now I'm in the stage of getting a criminal record for deposing a fraudulent check. This company destroys my life. I called Reliant Energy on Friday March 10, 2023 to pay my energy invoice online that's due on the 14th of each month. While online I see that Reliant has changed my due date from the 14th of each month to the 6 day of the month, and my bill has increased an extra $125.00 for March 2023 invoice. It is flashing in red, past due now immediately. I was never informed by Reliant Energy that they were changing my due date, and I did not request the change. When I called Reliant Energy, I got this male representative with a very heavy speaking accent and identified himself as Sobie from what I could make out from his accent (Reliant has the call since they state that the calls are recorded for quality purposes, they know who he is from the date and time of the call). I informed the representative of my concerns with my bill, the date change of my invoice, and the increase of my bill. And that I was not informed that they were changing my due date. In a very rude voice the representative tells me that Reliant does not have to inform me of anything. I ask to speak with a manager, and being even more rude he tells me that he is the manager! And would I like for him to transfer me to another manager! I told him that he did not have to be so rude, and how I felt about his very poor customer service. For this representative to be so rude and unprofessional to me a customer that is calling about my invoice and his responsibility is to help and to get this kind of customer service is so unacceptable and very disappointing. If he is a manager as he stated for Reliant Energy this does not look good for them as a company with such poor representation and the worst customer service from this representative of the 21st century. Just moved to the great state of TX and the one thing that is not great is Reliant Energy. Haven't even been here for 4 months, never have had my electricity disconnected but somehow Reliant decided to charge me 30$ for disconnection that never happened. When I called and spoke to their representative I was assured that it was a mistake and that it was fixed. I paid my bill without the extra charge since I was assured that it has been taken care of. 4 days letter I get a notice that my electricity will be disconnected since I had a past due charge of 30$. Called to speak with them again and told me that they gave me the credit for 30$ but I still have to pay it... Literally the worst, never ever make the mistake to sign up with Reliant, and if you do never set up that bill on auto pay. They will rob you blind! This company must get shut down. read more

National grid charges .04 an kwh for electric not Reliant almost .14 cents. National grid charges .28 for gas, not reliant, almost .95 cents. Very customer focused and my experience is that they go the extra mile to make things happen. Without hesitation, they got me disconnected from Ironhorse power services and reconnected on their program, immediately without hesitation, and restored my power while Ironhorse couldn't figure out what their own phone number was. I should have gone with Reliant from the beginning as they were highly recommended and I've used them at other properties. I unfortunately was fooled by their gimmicky marketing. Reliant personnel came out to move an electrical meter from a temporary power pole to our house, they left several pieces of electrical wires about 2-3 feet long along with empty water bottles and other trash in the grass for me to find with my shredder.
