I was inquiring about a dog that was posted on FB as being on an imminent euthanasia list. The dog was never in real danger of being euthanized- it was a scare tactic used by this rescue for whatever reason- they had plenty of interested and capable people willing to help who had breed experience. This rescue would also not release this dog to the local specific breed rescue which immediately stepped up to see if they could help this dog. Rescues should help other rescues but this one doesn't. I was trying to help a dog from the kill list and the person (presumably the owner) running the Facebook was EXTREMELY rude and kept trauma dumping on me when all I wanted to do was help save a dog from being euthanized. She was projecting onto me how she's overwhelmed with all the dogs that are surrendered and how no fosters are stepping up. When I said I could only foster temporarily, she blocked me rather than try to work together to save this dog. Wasted many hours of my day yesterday and offered no alternative or assurance that the dog I'm trying to save won't be euthanized. Good luck to her with running her shelter with that attitude!!! Plays down biting and aggression. Shames owners when they end up with a dog they can't handle. Not concerned about adopters.

We adopt super seniors. We called about our boy Columbo but said we would be opened to a 2nd super senior and expressed interest in a few. Michele had heard about us through another rescuer and did some homework and called me. She had a very large shepherd in need of an immediate placement from a bad situation. We said bring her by let's see if Columbo says he wants a sister. She was a mental and physical mess. Michele allowed us to work with her while she observed. She was so happy we were taking 2 sick and super old dogs she tried to refuse the donation because she warned these 2 could be medically costly. They were. They were also 2 of the best dogs we've had and we've had plenty. We wound up being a hospice for them and we're able to keep them around happy and comfy for 13 months and 19 months. Our vet gave them 6 months but said do our thing. Michele although admittedly rough around the edges is conscientious and all about the dogs. We told her what we could work with. She did a great job matching our dogs for us. We had to force her to take a donation because she felt bad about the money we would need to spend. So to all the people who said she's mean. She is direct and doesn't mince words but she has a big heart for animals. I would have given this 5 stars if it were a brick and mortar rescue but she does a good job. She is an animal person not necessarily a people person...sometimes I don't blame her. She is up front with whatever issues she knows the dogs have. She relies on her fosters for feedback. This rescue isn't for everyone. She rescues unwanted discarded dogs...hence the name...Remember Me. read more

Unfortunately, I did not read any reviews until I was subjected to an extremely unprofessional, aggressive, and arrogant correspondence from a so called animal advocate such as Michele. After filling out an application and wanting to expedite the process, Michele was informed that other rescue organizations have approved my application and have performed home visits. This was not in attempt to have her "hand over a pet" or to bypass her protocol and investigation. Anyone who works with animal rescue knows that many of them work together to support in the efforts of advocating and rehoming, neglected and abused animals. This information did not warrant the abusive response that was received. What prompted my review research was when Michele posted on her social media page the image included which was even more demeaning than in initial email It is inconceivable that someone who lacks respect and humanity towards people could possibly be someone who is advocating for animals. Belittling and demeaning potential adopters is not way to advocate for animals and to encourage people to donate to her organization. Shame on her! read more

I had filled out an application for a puppy I saw on their Facebook. The application said that you needed to complete a deposit before you make an appointment to see the puppy. However, I looked on their actual website and it says their account has been hacked, and they do not ask for a deposit. When asked about it, I was told the issue has not been corrected with the IT person and they Did not update the website. I was provided with a different name for the Zelle deposit, instead of the name Michelle, as it outlined on the website. When I questioned her about the legitimacy of this, she said please if you're not comfortable, get your puppy elsewhere. I had genuinely been interested in adopting this dog, and wanted to make sure that I was working with a reputable agency/person and that was not provided here sadly. read more

Sadly I see a review about the recent hacking of their Facebook page. Michele would never ask for a deposit on a dog ever. No legitimate rescue would request a deposit for a dog. If someone is asking for a deposit it is a scam. I have adopted 4 dogs from Michele and fostered several others and I can say she puts her heart and soul into rescue. She has saved so many lives on the brink of euthanasia and gave them a a happy life. I highly recommend this rescue if you want to make a difference in this world and save a life. read more

After my mom emailed and expressed her disappointment diplomatically, the founder, Michele DeSanti replied in a volatile manner. She told my mom to get over herself and that she probably can't take care of a dog anyway and that she is embarrassed for her. She also says and I quote "I don't care about your feelings". Tried to adopt an older dog but was turned down because I don't take my dogs annually to the vet for "complete physical and complete bloodwork, just like a human would have". My dogs are healthy and happy and they go to the vet for shots, and at the first sign of them not being 100%. I don't know many people who bring their dogs for full annual work up and bloodwork. There's always someone home here and that senior dog would've had happy years here. Although I dealt with one of her underlings, I saw Michelle's postings in other apps and she is demeaning and rude --those people were not exaggerating! She sounds like a control freak more concerned with her personal power than rehoming dogs. Small rescues are like that sometimes, impossible to please all in the name of "protecting the defenseless animals" but really it's a control thing and it's often the reason people end up at pet shops!!! read more

I went for a meet and greet on Sept. 7, 2020 for 2 dogs at a park in Riverhead. My application for adopting was submitted about a month previously and a thorough investigation into my background was preformed. All of my references had been checked. I asked questions my vet told me to ask and I asked if either me or my vet could speak to their vet regarding the surgery the older dog had. They never responded. When I went to the meet and greet the older dog DaVinci had no interest in me, it was like a bad blind date, but the other dog Louie and I had a great meet up. Louie did have a brief moment of aggression towards a larger dog that entered our circle. I was able to pull Louie back, calm him down and have him sit at my side. At the end of our visit, I asked if I could meet in their fosters home to see how they behave inside. I also asked about contacting the vet regarding the surgery and the foster said she would ask Michele. I asked her if they liked to play with toys, she said she doesn't know because she has a "no toys rule" because she has a dog in her house that will bite and harm any other dog that has a toy. I told her I was sure about adopting Louie but not so sure about DaVinci since he wasn't responding to me at all and meeting in her home might change that. She said, they had many good applications for Louie in from an adoption event they had done 2 days prior . I said, you have had mine for a month and checked all of my references, you have had Louie for a week in foster and you couldn't possibly have checked these applicants out when it took you so long to process my app. At this point I had said let me know what works for you to see how they are at home because they were very excited being in a park environment, a place they obviously have never been before. Later that evening I received a text saying that they have approved adopters for both. I was also told by Michele that I was "too old" for a puppy. I am 62 and Louie is 2 years old, quite possibly a little older since he is a rescue. I just want to say this was a horrible experience. I made donations to this rescue for DaVinci's surgery and was very patient during the whole process. I was then chastised on Facebook by Michele because I asked questions regarding these dogs. I was told to go to Michelle. I told her the situation and she said she would find someone for him. She told me she found someone and so I asked her a question about the person and she called me names like "little girl" and "obnoxious". She said I had an attitude and that I should "be an adult and suck it up" and take the dog myself. I have worked for a few decades doing different aspects of animal rescue work, so I'm afraid I've become a bit picky about the type of person and type of rescue I would get my own dogs from. When I moved back to my home town area, I volunteered with many great rescues mostly in the NYC area. Sort of by accident I met Michele DeSanti of Remember Me Rescue at one of her mall adoption events. Oh my goodness, what a kind, caring person, so great, responsible, nice and easy to work with. When I saw how much her rescue spent to focus on local animals, including so many medical cases and senior, unwanted dogs who are hard to find families for, I was hooked. Not only have I gotten my own dogs from her, I send all of my friends, family, and co workers to her door. We adore this rescue and couldn't recommend them more highly. I doubt she'll ever see this because she's so busy helping everyone, but if she does, Michele, you are the best thing to happen to NY rescue and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Our dogs all add that they "woof you too!". Thanks for saving so many and doing it with grace and compassion! By the way, every rescue has people who complain, it's sadly the nature of the business. People want to lash out because of their own inadequacies. The goal of any rescue must be to place the dog in the best possible situation for the success of the dog and of the new family. People who really care about dogs realize that not every dog is right for every home situation. Michele thankfully is careful about who gets her dogs, as she must be. People get turned down for valid reasons. Also, I never understood why people feel they are so entitled to a dog. Don't they realize rescuers give up time with their own family and dogs, pay out of their own pockets most of the time, have to work "regular" jobs, and do this work out of the kindness in their hearts? Michele and her fosters are incredibly caring people. Michele devotes her life to saving dogs (often seniors, neglected or dumped in shelters) and finding them the best homes. The rescue's focus is on doing what is best for the dog that is in their care. I'm sure the people who have said negative things about the rescue just don't understand the process. Instead, they think that just because they apply for a dog and even meet that dog that they will be approved to adopt that dog. True rescues believe that what matters above all is the dog and the proper placement of that dog. We need more conscientious and dedicated rescues like Remember Me Rescue NY here in NY. Let me begin by addressing all the negative reviews - you are clearly angry because you were not suited for the dog you wanted and therefore not allowed to adopt. This is an amazing organization that truly cares about the pets they rescue and put a lot of time into vetting their adopters. They go above and beyond to ensure each of their rescues are placed with the right person/people. Every pet has their own personality, likes, dislikes and needs - this is something Michele takes very seriously!! Is she judgmental? Absolutely! And she has the right to be...she's not going to rescue a dog and then place it with the wrong Person...that would defeat her whole purpose which is to rescue dogs and place them in an environment where they will be most likely to succeed. There's a lot of people out there that don't deserve dogs and that's where Michele comes in. I adopted a dog from Michele in November. I completed the application, spoke to the foster and Michele, visited him, had 3 references called in addition to my vet and underwent a home visit to ensure that my husband and I were a good fit - that's what a responsible rescue does! If you are deserving of the unconditional love of a rescue pet you should have no problem or complaints regarding the simple process of being vetted and understand that you may not be the right fit. Michele has a huge heart and truly understands the meaning of unconditional love. If she's not rescuing from a kill shelter or racing an abandoned dog to the vet she's picking up donations or raising awareness and funds for a senior or special needs dog. Of note, they do not post pictures of unavailable pets - they interview interested parties until they find the perfect match. Just because you express interest doesn't mean you are getting the dog. I would adopt from Michele again in a heartbeat and highly recommend them!! read more

If I could post negative stars I would but unfortunately that is not an option. I'm a huge advocate for animal rescue and I began to follow Remember Me Rescue's Facebook page. When I saw a post stating that they don't adopt to "young 20 something" year olds I questioned them on it and asked why. I did not believe it was right to discriminate based on someone's age. I am 22 and a dog mom of 3 perfect little babies. I'm also a shelter volunteer, foster, full time worker, and homeowner! If someone told me that I wasn't able to adopt my 3 dogs due to my age I would have been CRUSHED as they are my whole entire world. I am well aware that not ever 20 something year old is responsible enough to own a dog, but to reject an entire age group is just wrong. It not only hurts those who want to adopt but it hurts the animals in their care who are without a forever home. A few people tagged along on my post agreeing that young adults should be given the chance to adopt and save a life. One girl in particular commented on the post and explained how her grandmother was told she was too old to adopt a dog from them. This blew my mind. Not only do they not allow young adults to adopt but they don't allow those over the age of 65 (senior citizens) to adopt either! Remember Me Rescue responded to her post saying disgusting things! She was told that her grandmother only wanted a puppy so that she could "feel young again" and that if her grandmother wanted companionship then she should visit her more often. I was speechless. Upon further investigation I found previous posts stating that they don't adopt to people with "anxiety and mental illnesses" and that they expect all of their adopters to be "big girls" in reference to those suffering from mental illness. The things that were said by Michele DeSanti who runs Remember Me Rescue were not only beyond unprofessional but absolutely disgusting. The way they treat those who want to be involved in the rescue movement is appalling. Their words and actions detour so many good people from adoption which is what leads them to breeders! As more dogs are bought from breeders, more shelter dogs are euthanized! I am speechless and heart broken not only for my peers, the seniors, and those who suffer from mental illness but mostly for the animals! I feel sad for all the animals in their care who are missing out on incredible homes and I am sad for all strays, shelter dogs, and dogs are death row who cannot be saved because the rescue simply does not have enough fosters and adopters due to their ridiculous policies. I have been volunteering, fostering and adopting through Remember me rescue for almost a year now. I can not say enough good things about Michelle and the rescue she is running. Michelle puts her entire heart and soul into these dogs and making sure the rest of their lives they will never feel pain again. Dogs come in neglected, abused or simply just dumped. Michelle never says no to an animal in need, which is NEVER ending. She covers all medical costs and walks with you every step of the way. She sacrifices so much of her own personal life to be able to give these dogs everything they could possibly need. I am so lucky that not only have i been able to help so many dogs in need through the guidance of Michelle but i am also able to call her a great friend of mine. Michelle's number one priority is the dogs in her care, that's it. She stands by every single one of them and makes sure to carefully select families that best suits the dogs need. Not every family is the right fit for a dog just bc they like them. Each dog has certain needs and finding that right family takes time and patience. I had been considering adopting for awhile, looked through numerous groups, and stumbled upon Remember Me Rescue. After doing a little more research, I have heard NOTHING but negative feedback about this organization, and especially about the founder's rude and unprofessional demeanor with potential adopters. I quickly realized this would NOT be an organization I would want to deal with, as this is supposed to be a positive process without having to worry about feeling belittled. After hearing first-hand negativity, I come to Yelp and am validated by other negative reviews. Funny to see these 4 comments, considering that this rescue is so picky about where they place there dogs. They try and make sure these poor dogs aren't dumped again . There physical and mental taking care of before there placed in homes, sometimes people aren't the right fit for certain dogs, guess people feel they should get what they want.....that doesn't benefit the dog it's no happening, this is a great rescue, you should feel honored to rescue a dog from them. read more

Michelle only cares about placing the pups in the best homes..She is incredibly intuitive and very picky about with whom she places a dog. She is a true rescuer: taking dogs that are seniors or who have medical issues, which most rescue organizations turn away. Every rescue organization could learn a thing or two from Michelle. If she has any negative reviews it's because she is doing the right thing by the dogs. I have to say that she isn't the warmest and fuzziest at times but if you saw what she saw on a daily basis you wouldn't be either. Michelle is an angel. read more

If I was writing this review a year ago maybe it would be different however, everyone needs to stay away. I rescued a dog who had been in and out of fosters and adopters with the promise of lifetime medical care. (I have it in writing.) Michele initially had no issue when he needed to get medical care as I took him to the rescues vet that he had been going to for the 18 months he was at the rescue. Flash forward to now, he was in need of medical care so I called Michele to let her know I was going to bring him in. She literally FLIPPED out on me. Saying very very VERY nasty things and then, after I posted on social media what had occurred she took to her social media, posting texts from me that were completely out of context to make it look like I won't take care of my dog. Someone from the rescue even threatened to call my job. (Which I've had for 18 years now.) It's complete insanity how she will do whatever she can in her power to be the hero no matter how badly she treats and/or talks about other human beings. Do yourself a favor and stay far far away. You don't want to risk being screamed at and then bullied on the internet. I have plenty of pictures I can attach of screen shots of the terrible things she and others from her rescue had to say about me. Quite honestly though it's too heartbreaking for me to post. I've done nothing but given everything imaginable for my dog. And she agreed until she decided that her contract with me was null and void. read more

Remember Me Rescue New York is a fine example of a small well-run organization. Michele, the founder and president, is hands-on in all aspects of the rescue. Remember Me rescue New York pulls dogs from overcrowded municipal shelters where they are in danger of being euthanized and not getting very much training, and finds them loving homes. Remember Me Rescue New York also finds homes for older dogs who are being discarded by their owners after years of loyalty and love, dogs who have medical conditions, and are now too much of a burden for their owners, and also has helped many who can no longer keep their dog due to their living arrangements. Michele is involved in every aspect, the dogs are at loving Foster homes, after being completely medically vetted, and receiving training if need be, and lots of love until they find their forever homes. I highly recommend this small local rescue, only Long Island applicants should apply, as Michelle does not place dogs off of Long Island so that she can remain involved in their futures. read more
