    Torched sushi
    Vivian L.

A small sushi place tucked conveniently beside Sue's Market, clean, but with very limited seating , so I usually buy take out when coming to the market. So far i have tried their Spring Tray, i liked the salmon and disliked fried rolls. The torched sushi is heavily topped with sauce, not to my liking, i cannot taste which fish is which, but i do like the rice. Takoyaki is ok, doesn't have the topping as shown on the picture, either the avocado salad doesn't match the picture either. This is a problem for take out as people order as per the picture, will be disappointed if it doesn't match the picture. More efforts are needed to take actual pictures of what people will get.

We noticed this place on social media and decided to give it a try. We ordered the "winter tray" and felt given the price, quality and quantity was quite decent. We came back a second night to order the salmon lover set and sashimi lover. Unfortunately we found in the salmon lover 3 pieces of salmon that had black on it. We thought maybe it was just a bit black from something else that may have been torched sushi. I'm not one to waste food so cut into the fish to see if it was only on the surface (which I can live with and will eat) but found it was black through out the pieces. Maybe this is blood? Maybe not? Honestly having eaten sashimi regularly I have never seen this. Maybe we have been lucky so far, but if it doesn't look right I can't eat it. Sorry ren, I wanted to be friends but I can't trust you due to this

What drawn me to visit this place was the their $29.99 "omakase" AYCE 'cause I haven't seen any other places with the same concept and thought it was interesting. I called them for reservations on NYE and they told me that the $29.99 promo was over and the current price is $37.99, which I was okay with. There was only one other table that was occupied when I arrived for 6:30 but they had a lot of take out orders. The hostess (I assume is also the owner) said it's now AYCE and the concept of having to finish the first two portion (omakase style) is no longer available. Again, I was fine with that. We ordered a bunch of sashimi, rolls, and hand rolls. Everything tasted very fresh and yummy and the sashimi was thick. However, at $37.99 I would've expected more items on their menu. I saw on their poster that they had a 45 piece platter for $27.99 which imo is a much better deal so perhaps I'll return once more for take out but I don't think i'll be returning for AYCE. The restaurant itself is very brightly lit and clean and the lady that serving us was very nice and friendly.

Fish to rice ratio was not good. There was too much rice and the sashimi is cut thinly. Rice alone was not seasoned well. It's very budget friendly so don't expect much. Service was quick , my order was ready in 20 mins. Theres a few tables inside to dine in and there's ayce option

I give this place 5 stars for both the super friendly service by the staff and also for the food. Located in a strip mall in a very quiet area, you can almost miss this spot. I came here for their 29.99 all you can eat dinner and it was definitely worth the price. You need to eat this mandatory miso soup, salad and sushi/sashimi/ roll set before you can order what you want. The set is small and easy to finish. We made a mistake and that is that we ordered way too much. THE ROLLS ARE BIG! each roll is big with 8 pieces. Don't make the same mistake and order them all thinking they're easy to finish. Although me and my boyfriend finished the rolls., we were so extremely full after we were in pain. The staff even warned us TWICE that we were ordering a lot but we didn't listen. Next time we will. The sushi is good quality for an ayce place and we were highly satisfied with the selection of sushi/sashimi and rolls. Do keep in mind this place is not like other Japanese restaurants and for the ayce option there is no tempura/udon/etc that you would expect. Ur is strictly fish fish fish. There is also no dessert. But for this price you can not complain at all. Would come back.

My friend proposed to order Ren Shushi party tray since it had a promotion. It's soooo affordable and with a lot of sushi. We enjoyed it with great pleasure. I found many reviews are very picky about their quality. I just wanted to say their quality is good. And given its price, you know it's definitely not an omakase restaurant that competes to have Michelin stars. It's more like a local restaurant for the neighborhood and I love it

The party tray here is quite worth the price, suitable for a group of people to share together. 幾抵食嘅party tray,適合一班人一齊share

Tried their winter party tray. Taste was below average but for the price that was expected. The Service was quick, they were able to make it really quick. The shop was easy to find. They do have some sitting in the shop but it's mostly a take out shop.

We saw the winter tray on social media and thought we would try it as it's such a good deal. It is now 29.99 instead of 27.99 which was fine as it was still a good deal for rolls, nigiri and sashimi. You pay for what you get, the rolls were tasty but the nigiri and sashimi were quite bland. I've had better sushi trays out there for a bit more expensive. Not sure if I'll be back but the staff were very nice.

    Alex L.

The food is great. The service is friendly. I got my full. I definitely recommend coming here especially when you dont feel like getting AYCE. It is a nice dine in allacarte place. They offered to upgrade one of the rolls for free to try it. I recommend to try it

Ordered the Winter Tray for pickup. With 45 pieces for $27.99, it's not just a great value but also a fantastic way to savor a variety of flavors.

Torched sushi combo picture is misleading and the description says torched press sushi.
    Nikki C.

This was such a disappointment. I had high hopes as the pictures from the website looked really good. I ordered the 10 piece torched press sushi and got torched sushi which is completely different, see pic. I requested order pick up at 6:30 and they called us at 5:20 saying our order is ready for pick up. Although we got 30% off due to sale but still very upset customer and will never go back again.

Amazing price for party trays! The torch-pressed ones can be better but given the price this is a super good deal!

Came here with some friends for the omakase special meal…read more Such a lovely overall standard omakase experience and meal. The highlight for me was probably the set of four starter appetizers, they were flavourful, delicately prepared and perfect way to start the meal. I liked the slightly pickled dish with cucumbers the best. We also had sushi prepared with fresh seafood. The rice was probably my favorite compared to other places I've been. It was perfectly seasoned rice, warm and cooked to have just the right texture, not overcooked and not undercooked. The rice held up well when picked up by hand and complemented the flavours of the fish. Finished the meal with a matcha flavored pudding flan type dessert which had deep matcha flavours. If you're a fan of matcha, you'd probably enjoy it too. All in all, the meal was enjoyable, the torched tuna sushi was probably my favorite sushi of the set and my least favorite was the egg/eel, I was expecting a sweet egg at the end so it unexpected.

The restaurant is super quiet and they offer great quality of food with great service, and the price is expensive if you choose to order sukiyaki set (expect $80+ per person). You can choose between sushi sets at different price level or sukiyaki from the menu. This suits the need of our group given some people prefer sushi but some couldn't eat raw food. They also offer a couple of limited appetizer dishes such as tempuras and unagi don. If you booked the sukiyaki table and want to order sushi, you need to call them in advance to notify which sushi sets you want. We tried the sashimi and sushi courses at $55, which included miso soup, 5 pieces of sashimi, 8 pieces of sushi (squid, toros, salmon, scallop etc.), handroll and matcha or black sesame icecream at your choice. The sushi is smaller than average, suitable for small eaters. The course is totally worth the money. I love every piece of sashimi and my favourite sushi include the scallop and the squid. Everything was super fresh. The dessert was also having the perfect sweetness level for me. In addition, we also tried the sukiyaki for two ($110), which includes mushrooms, cabbages, great quality of Angus beef, yummy tofu and udon. Again, all the material was with great quality and super fresh. I especially liked the sweet sukiyaki soup, the tofu and the udon. We also ordered some shareable dishes including chawanmushi, unagi don and cod. Cod was cooked to perfect (soft and flavourful), and unagi don had quite decent portion. It would be better if the unagi could be softer from my personal opinion. Chawanmushi was mediocre. Overall, I strongly recommend this restaurant to fan of Japanese cuisine. It meets different people's needs by offering both cooked and raw food options, and the sushi set definitely has great value for money.

They also had optional upgrades for uni or Japanese melon, which I think was like $35 for uni and $27 for one melon slice. Other than the snow crab from Norway. They did accommodate my allergy and replaced with Cho toro which was great! Pleasantly surprised was the dessert instead of boring ice cream, it was my favorite warabimochi!

S5 is also as good as the other location, maybe even better. The rice is even seasoned, the quality is like omakase, the take out box is wrapped with Japanese style cloth wrap, very elegant, although a kind of waste (I asked not to wrap in cloth to be more environmentally friendly). Paid in cash, got 10% discount, What a big bang for the buck as well. One third of the cost as other sushi place with better quality. It is now our go to place for sushi take out. The service is nice and efficient too. Highly recommended.
