I tried a few things from Renaud's while staying nearby. For my first visit I had a mini lemon tart and one of their small easter chocolates, which were on sale after the holiday. The lemon and meringue in the tart were very good: the citrus had a nice bite to it, it wasn't too sweet. I found the pastry a little thick, but that is sometimes an issue when making miniature tarts, as the pastry to filling ratio can get off-balance. The little dark chocolate bunny was ok, but honestly not any better than most retail chocolate bars for a much higher cost. On my second visit I stopped in on a morning for a matcha latte and ham and cheese croissant. The croissant was flaky and had a good balance of ham and cheese. They warm them up and it was the perfect temperature. The matcha latte was very disappointing, though. I didn't end up finishing it and threw most of it out. It was bright green, but had no real matcha flavor to speak of. Instead it tasted overwhelmingingly of vanilla. So much so that as it cooled it reminded me of drinking melted vanilla ice cream. I don't know if they use vanilla syrup by default as their sweetner, because I didn't ask for it, but if so it's an odd choice to make without telling people. Overall, a bit of a mixed bag. read more

The pastries look and tasted so satisfying I was happy to have stop by here for a birthday treat. The service was amazing I gotten enough help with what a girl may like for her birthday taste buds and the he place seem small it got enough pastries to fill once stomach. The desserts are delicious but the girl working behind the counter is RUDE for no reason. I came here to pick up some treats for someone for their birthday. It was my first time and I had questions. She clearly saw me but did not want to turn around to help anyone. And when I got her attention she gave me attitude. I asked her if the chocolate one was good and popular and she just said she didn't like chocolate. Renaurd, you need to better train her. She is unappreciative of her job and hating everyone. I ended up getting the Bomb, the exotic, the apple pie, and their rasberry white chocolate one. Thankfully the birthday person enjoyed them all. Cute small shop inside Gaison's Market. They have beautifully displayed of pastries & cakes that just make your mouth automatically water. Taste wise, delish & yum. Not too sweet but right amount of sweetness for sure. Price wise, on the low of high end but worth it for sure. Service is fantastic, very friendly, helpful and attentive. My office was gifted a box of pastries from Renaud's Patisserie yesterday, August 29th, in the morning, and they were absolutely delicious! The box had a mixture of croissants, pecan pastries, and one with golden raisins. I got to try half of a pecan and the other one with raisins, and they were so goOood! They were fresh, flaky, rich, and full of butter. They paired so well with my hot cup of coffee in the morning. Delish and would totally recommend! Extremely rude service, supposed to close at 8:00pm and the worker decides to take her break right before closing. I walk up and she says "we're closed". I say "but you close at 8:00pm?" Her response "I needed to take my break." After that she said nothing and continued to close out. (Mind you I got there at 7:45.) Took my wife and little one to Renaud's when we were in the area (around breakfast time). They both loved the selection of pastries they offer and the ones I ultimately chose for us. She noted the morning bun tastes and has the texture of what she imagined a "cronought " to have. We've never had a real "cronought" from the bakery in NYC, but had a lot of facsimiles (in California) that we didn't like. My wife couldn't stop talking about how delicious the morning bun was for her. Our little one (26months old) loved it all as well. Lastly, I want to acknowledge the awesomeness of the lower level of Gelson's outdoor area with its many tables and chairs. My wife having never visited the bakery and this Gelson's was impressed. For a little treat and coffee drink, this is our go-to place for sure. Nestled inside Gelson's (ultra fancy, premium-priced market), Renaud's really satisfy my sweet tooth. Plus there is nothing better than a French bakery. Nothing. :) The only thing missing here is the Eiffel Tower. Love an iced or hot latte. Depending on the season. I gravitate towards iced in the summer, hot in the cooler months. I love pairing my latte with: Raspberry Tart - for when you want and to satisfy your sweet tooth and be healthy in the same bite. Almond croissant - Loaded with almonds. Love. Again, almonds is really heart-healthy so you feel less guilty eating it. The shortbread cookies - perfect for dipping in your hot lattes. The mini cookies - you can never go wrong with chocolate chip. But do try all the flavors. The chocolate eclair - This is a treat for when you have been really good. So creamy and delicious as an eclair should be. You may need to run a mile afterwards Good thing I don't live walking-distance from Renaud's. I would eat nothing but desserts all day. Thought the cakes would be fresh, they aren't. Probably made days before, and left in freezer. How do I know, the Madeline's surrounding my raspberry cake were stale and very dry, and the raspberry filling was frozen.... To the business owner. Oh my god, where has this almond croissant been all my life! 5 stars for this. There is a good amount of almonds spread over the top. A good flakey exterior and crunch to the croissant. And a sweet spread in the middle. Didn't look at what it was. Driving. Couldn't even take a picture of it. Their French macarons taste fresh and good. Renaud's is located inside the supermarket. It's at the front of the store. Hands down! We love Renaud's and passed by on our way home back to the Bay Area. This Renaud's has way more options than the previous 2 locations I visited in Santa Barbara! Omg the Bomb is really the bomb! We tried a small personal sized last time and this time we bought the big one home. Croissants are crispy on the outside and soft and chewy inside! Macarons were delicious too! We spent $70 on this trip and didn't regret one bit! The staffs were super helpful. They were patient and took their time to pack our stuffs. We will be back for more goodies!! read more

I ordered from the cashier and got an order of pistachio and hazelnut macarons and a lemon tart. pistachio macaron - loved it. perfect amount of creaminess in the filling and the shell wasn't too chewy or hard. A very decent macaron. hazelnut macaron - it was good, but didn't really have much of a hazelnut taste. it was just chocolate. lemon tart - crust was a little thick but the lemon custard was good! perfect ratio between tangy and sweet. service was ok, but i saw many issues including food handling safety... the worker who packed my macarons - I didn't see her wash her hands after ringing me up at the register, but she put on gloves. As she was helping me, she answered the phone and stopped packing my order. I asked another girl who was at the register and she helped me, but she also didn't wash her hands after touching the register and cash and didn't even put on gloves before grabbing my pastries. I was very impressed and am already wondering when I can justify coming back here again. I needed so get some treats for my lovely neighbors and also some desserts for a family dinner, so I decided to come here. Parking was relatively easy even on NYE. The counter was a bit busy but not too bad. I chose macarons for my neighbors (they have several flavors ranging from lemon to pistachio to cassis to chocolate), and I purchased some little entremet-type desserts for us. They were SO delicious! I think my favorite was the hazelnut cake, which tasted similar to a Ferrero-Rocher chocolate and even had a layer of slight crunch. The strawberry cheesecake was also outstanding. All of their mousses had perfectly light texture and delicious flavor. I probably shouldn't start off the new year with another cake... Happened upon Renauds in Santa Barbara while walking my puppy. Loved the ambience in the Cafe immediately and have to say the pastries exceeded my expectations. The service was friendly and prompt as well. I ordered an almond croissant and a morning bun. At this point both are now the best I've ever had. The pastries are beautiful and taste divine. The morning bun was heavy in the cinnamon, which I loved and the almond croissant was loaded with almonds and had the most delicious almond paste on the inside. I've been on a major macaron craving and got some from Brodard and Cafe Maji, but that elusive combination of both crisp and chewy textures were just not there. My friend picked up a box of macarons for me from Renaud's and now I'm a huge fan. Their macaron texture is perfect - so beautifully chewy and moist, which one always looks for in a macaron. They are also quite large sized, so you can enjoy more than a few couple bites. I love their flavors and the buttercream fillings were very flavorful. Red velvet, hazelnut and pistachio were my favorites, but the quality and consistency of all of their macarons is very impressive. Can't wait to go back! read more

Renauds is a bakery exhibit located between the cash registers and the front of Gelsons Market in LBC's Marina Pacifica. If you want to eat on site, there's some seating off to the side, but it felt more like a takeaway location. Renauds' baking displays are outrageously tempting. I could see my reflection in the chocolate-topped cakes. The pastries all screamed "Screw your diet! C'est La Vie !" A discount bin contained a trio of gourmet marshmallows. And, the macarons in a variety of not-found-in-nature colors. Got the Almond Croissant which was amazing, and a bunch of macarons which were also delicious!!- skip out on the coffee... wasn't worth the price.  Recommend? Oh yeah. read more

Was admittedly a little hesitant to write this review since I feel like Renaud's is such a hidden gem that I want to save their pastries all for myself. Seriously -- there's never a line here whenever I visit, and I have no idea why. Their chocolate croissant is one of a kind, with a beautiful thin crepe-like layers and hunks of chocolate pieces inside. The distribution of chocolate is sometimes on one side more than the other, but the flakey buttery dough makes the whole croissant delicious no matter what piece you get if you're cutting it in half. Order their pumpkin pie on your next holiday gathering, and it'll be the star of the meal. The pumpkin filling is perfectly spiced and creamy in texture. Its dough is reminiscent of a crunchy galette. Don't forget to grab a stamp card to save on your next purchase after 10 stamps! read more
