It's not called Sweet Jills for nothing. I really wanted to like the cinnamon roll but I felt like it was too doughy and a little undercooked. I should have asked for the icing on the side because it was just wayyy too sweet for my likings. It's cash only, parking in the area can be annoying. The place is nice and clean, no restrooms available. I'm glad I got to try this because my curiosity has been fulfilled. Sweet Jill's is not the same, unfortunately. They've been around forever but the quality and service aren't great. The pastries are overpriced, too sweet, lack of quality and they only take cash now. There's always some drama coming and going through doors. The last couple times, there was a homeless person leaving behind bio, and another time ladies fighting. First off, it's along the fame 2nd Street in Belmont shores where it's shopping and dining blocks after blocks. Right when you walk in, that whiff of sugars just gets to you. The right way of course. The glass counters with rows and rows of cakes and cookies. Even the glass window displays shows the fresh baked goods as you're walking by. Just a warning, it is CASH only which it's noted at the register. There's an atm nearby for your help. I picked up a few slices of cakes which is alway a must. They're normally in squares versus your normal slices. And a slice of their famous Cinnabon. Oh, they charge an additional fee if you want glaze on your bun. I think it's odd as you would normally already include it but what do I know...lol... Just add the fee into the slice to begin with. Service was great and all the staff were friendly. Hands down best cinnamon rolls in LA. Ordered an after dinner cinnamon roll to satisfy my sweets craving. Love that they still bake cinnamon rolls later in the evening, so everything is fresh and warm. Had the right amount of icing on top and generous with the nuts. Oh Sweet Jill's, I think I nearly overdid it with the sugar here. They definitely live up to their name because everything here is sweet as hell! We stopped by for a post-dinner sweet treat. Be warned that it is pretty tiny in here and the line can get long and that is it CASH ONLY. I really had a hard time choosing here as the delightful desserts options are really endless. By the time I got to the end of the counter I had picked out a handful sweets I wanted but my stomach only had room for one (barely) so I settled on the German chocolate cake, a nostalgic favorite of mine that I hadn't had in quite some time. This easily could have made for 3 or even 4 desserts. Just a few bites in and that sweetness was almost a little too much. I ended up taking most of it to go. This is a great little bakery with plenty of baked goods to choose from. Judging by the steady stream of customers, everything must be good. That said, the only reason we come here is for the cinnamon roll (no nuts) with icing. It hits all the spots , warm, sweet, soft, buttery, sticky, and absolutely delicious. I can personally only eat half, so my wife and I always split one. It's a small place with just a few tables inside. Sometimes there's a line, but it moves pretty quickly. Sweet Jill's has been a Long Beach staple for as long as I can remember. I grew up coming here for treats as a kid and it always felt like pure sugary magic. So coming back as an adult, I was low key excited to relive that nostalgia. Nothing was outright bad, but nothing really wowed us either. The pumpkin cheesecake was pretty bland, the cookie dough brownie was overly sweet in a not so great way, and while the Oreo brownie was definitely the best of the bunch it still wasn't something I'd come back specifically for. The coffee cake was solid but again, not memorable. Maybe we played ourselves by not going for their classic cinnamon rolls or maybe the bakery just doesn't hit like it used to. This place had been on my list for a long time but I accidentally stumbled upon it because I was going thrifting nearby. I walked by and immediately was drawn because of how good it smelled! The guy who took our order was super patient because we were so indecisive. I always get scared when a place doesn't have prices listed because they tend to overcharge, but everything here was so cheap and those three things were only $10! Warm, ooey gooey, soft, fluffy, sweet, decadent - truly the perfect cinnamon roll. It is QUITE sweet, but what do you expect from a cinnamon roll? We can only take a few bites a day and it's very sizable, so it lasts a few days. Still just as good a few days later - just pop it in the microwave to warm. You can literally smell Sweet Jill's Bakery before you even see it. Walking down 2nd Street, the sweet sugary maple aroma completely pulled us in. We were actually on our way to sushi, but the smell alone convinced us to come back after -- and we did. I asked for their famous cinnamon rolls and was asked if I wanted them with or without nuts. I went with without nuts and extra icing on top, and we also ordered a slice of carrot cake. The carrot cake was really good -- super moist, very sweet, and full of little shredded carrot pieces that gave it great texture and flavor. That one I definitely enjoyed. The cinnamon roll, however, wasn't for me. It had a very strong maple syrup flavor, which I wasn't expecting at all. I was hoping for more of a classic cinnamon-and-sugar taste, but it leaned heavily into maple and was extremely sweet. I personally don't love maple, so it just wasn't my thing -- though I can see how maple lovers might enjoy it. One thing that felt a little odd: when we went to pay, we were told it was cash only, but there was no sign posted. When we said we didn't have cash, the cashier pulled out a tap-to-pay machine anyway .., so that part felt a bit confusing. Overall, the smell and charm definitely draw you in, and the carrot cake was a win -- but the cinnamon roll wasn't my favorite. April 14th 7:30pm I went in to purchase a cinnamon roll with 2 coffees. One for my wife and one for myself. The employee behind the counter by the name of Gail said there was only enough coffee for one cup. He said the owner doesn't want to waste coffee so he can't brew anymore coffee. This was our 3rd time there and I had a great experience with another employee who gladly made more coffee around the same time in the evening. I will have to find out his name since he does know what great customer service is. Who ever is the owner of this bakery, please do a better job and teach all your employees what great customer service is. We left without buying anything since we were disappointed by the service. Caramel apple, cinnamon bun and their personal mini cakes are my go to items whenever I'm around second street area. The smell of freshly baked cakes and pastries will definitely smack you right before you enter the place. Can't complain about that. The team members are friendly and welcoming.
