I meant to write this review some time ago, my visit was a few years back. I went in for the extraction of a broken tooth, one of the staff had made a mistake and they were not prepared for my visit, and we're not able to perform the extraction. Dr. Cheung made sure that we got it done that day (although we had to drive to another location). He was extremely upset that the staff member had not prepared properly, and went out of his way to accommodate and compensate us for the trouble. His work was excellent and he followed up for several days, making himself available to me during recovery. The mistake was not his fault and he did everything he could to make it right. This guy is the worst. I need to file a malpractice claim. A dentist I saw told me very firmly, "You need these wisdom teeth removed." The way he said it got to me, and I would stare at my x-rays on my phone thinking, yeah the lower left is closer to the adjacent molar than the lower right wisdom tooth. I called Rennie Cheung's office, telling them I had trouble closing my jaw from the left, I was thinking for some odd reason my wisdom tooth was the cause. They end up taking my wisdom tooth. I didn't know at the time and they should've informed me, since they are in the medical field, that my issue was a tmj or orofacial pain issue. Instead I've been suffering every day since October 2019. He and his office refused to treat me after completing the procedure. They took my referral, then claimed after they need a special referral form filled. I called my dentist and got that done, but Rennie Cheung's office became completely belligerent claiming they never got the form and never got paid. I told them I can get it again, they refused and didn't want to work with me. They kept my $165 deposit, that was supposed to be $115. Even though I have insurance to cover the payment. I've been to so many oral surgeons after, 5 ear nose throat doctors, a TMJ doctor, oral medicine, and now orofacial pain doctor who's referring me to another head and neck doctor after my latest MRI. I've done 3 CT scans, 2 MRIs, a bone scan, and many, many x-rays. I suffer every moment, every day ever since seeing this guy, I cry every day and scream . My jaw and extraction site always bother me. Tooth #17 was extracted, the tooth next to it, #18, is constantly sore. I developed a swollen nodule in my saliva gland under the spot Rennie Cheung worked on, there's a vein running from this nodule to the front of my mouth and this always bothers me too. Even though his office was rude, I begged for help. I pleaded and cried. They refused to see me. Making me run every where else trying to figure something out. He extracted my lower left wisdom tooth. Now my left jaw always hurts, funny cartilage sounds are occurring, gritty sand sounds only on the left literally every time I open my jaw, my jaw cracks only on the left when it never had before. When I speak loudly it would hurt for a couple years, but now at least that has seemed to resolve. All these problems I never had anything like this until he did this to me. This is debilitating, I feel so crippled, and my mind is always feeling something wrong: mostly pain, sometimes discomfort, other times wondering what's wrong and moving the parts, poking or rubbing. The pain is constant and takes mind away, it is upsetting, feeling hurt and broken has twisted my emotions towards darkness. I don't accomplish as much I spend much of my days down and hurt. It can be hard to clean behind the last tooth, having the wisdom tooth gone. There was nothing wrong with my wisdom teeth being at and angle and partially erupted. I didn't have any need to get this extracted, I regret doing it. Especially since I've been crippled by this horribly negligent "doctor". His reasoning to me for extraction was, "You could get a cavity there." Then he sidetracks to tell me he has 5 kids, his wife is Mexican, after I shared I have 7 kids who's mother is black. After that he tells me a book he recommends since I seem anxious. This guy, I hate what he has done to me. I really hope and wish I am able to find an answer and recover. I got my tooth (number 30) pulled out by Dr. Cheung three days ago. I need to get an implant, and this was the first part of the process. Everything went really well. I visited him 2 weeks prior to this appointment for a consultation, and he guided me through the whole process (it will be 8-9 months until I have a tooth back). He is very funny, caring and he takes the time to make sure that his patients understand the risks and benefits of the procedures. The day of the extraction, I had to wait for over an hour -which it's not very pleasant when sitting in a dentist year with one million scary thoughts going through your mind. However, once Dr. Cheung starting working on me, everything went super fast (I was literally done in 30 min). He pulled out the tooth, put bone graft and the he closured the wound with stitches. I didn't have any pain since even thought I asked him to use a different type of local anesthesia (I'm allergic to atropine). The nicest thing about Dr. Cheung is that he truly cares about his patients. Who else will be calling you on a Friday night just to make sure that you are doing well after surgery? Dr. Cheung is a perfectionist - which is what you want in a dentist/oral surgeon. He's friendly, patient and really walks you thru every step of the way. My first surgery lasted 11 1/2 hours -- and he didn't miss a beat. He rang me every day during my recovery. His staff is amazing! Kind, friendly and understanding. Yes, he's pricey but as they say -- you get what you pay for and I got platinum service from Renny and his team. I can't recommend Dr. Cheung highly enough - five stars just isn't enough. Dr. Cheung is awesome. He took out my wisdom teeth, but I can forgive him for that, 'cause they were really hurting me. My mouth, it's so tiny, and those teeth, they were so big. I remember being a little upset that he promised to tell me when I was going to get the drugs to go under, and then the next thing I knew, I was waking up from the surgery. And also that I got all weepy afterwards, which the nurse said is very common. She called it the anesthesia blues, which sounds like the type of music I might like. Anyhow, he was an amazing oral surgeon, especially because he didn't yell at me when I ate mac and cheese with black pepper like three days after surgery and gave myself extremely painful dry hole*. I had all four wisdom teeth removed here following recommendations from my dentist. However, I am telling my dentist not to recommend him to her future patients again. The first warning sign is when I went in for consultation. I told Dr Cheung that I have heart murmur. My cardiologist told me that I need to take antibiotics before dental surgeries. He acknowledged that during the consultation. But he forgot to prescribe the antibiotics. I remembered that myself later and had to drive back to their office for it. Then is the post surgery care. The surgery itself went well, I think. I felt zero pain during the surgery. But when I woke up after the surgery, Dr Cheung had already moved on to other patients. I was about to be sent home right after I woke up without being told how the surgery went and what's the post-op care. I insisted on waiting there to talk to him so that I can get an idea what I should be doing afterward. I asked about scheduling a follow-up check-up. Many articles explaining wisdom teeth removal mentioned that a follow-up check-up a week following the surgery is the general practice. But he said it's not necessary and I can just call him if I have questions. When I was talking to Dr Cheung right after the surgery, I wasn't given any instructions about what to do. He asked me what questions do I have instead of giving me instructions. The problem is that, as a patient, I don't know much about the surgery and possible recovery complications to ask the right question. I would not recommend him to my friends and families. Front desk is helpful as well but I did notice something kinda rude which not only me but two other people thought as well. Male walked in and had a issue feeling out paperwork and when he said he would return the front desk didn't want to validate him since he didn't actually keep his appointment,hmmm. I was referred to Dr Cheung to get 2 wisdom tooth extractions. I was scheduled today at 1:00pm and was a little anxious, no bueno! He was running a little behind which made me more anxious but once I was in, it was the best dental office experience Ive ever had!!! Dr C is so hilariously, he made me feel important and confident that this would be a walk in the park!!! After the procedure I was in a little pain, but all went well. Then I get a call from Dr. Cheung at around 6:30pm to check on me to see how I was doing. Thanks for being human and having a great soul....Also Jenny was great!! I usually use Yelp for restaurants, but choosing a place to get your teeth worked on is a big decision, and I didn't know who else to look to but Yelp! Everyone who works here are super friendly and their work is fantastic. I have had four wisdom teeth pulled by him with local anesthesia; without any pain. No pain at all. I absolutely love Rennie!! He is hilarious, he makes you feel so comfortable..sort of like you aren't getting surgery. I've used him for two oral procedures... damn HMO's don't permit you to get your wisdoms pulled unless you are about to die. I went under for my first procedure... one min i was talking and laughing with him and his nurse and the next i woke up with gauze in my mouth and my mother leading me out of the Chair. The 2nd procedure, i decided to take it like a champ, I was awake. And he worked a miracle, i honestly don't think i was in the chair for any longer than 20mins and he was finished. I'm a big scary cat, so he made sure not to show me the needle or the tools. He's really accommodating and his office workers are very pleasant. read more

My fiance was seen at this dental office January 19th,2016 i must say he was scared when we got there bp was 156/102 (no he dont have hypertension) but the anxiety & being scared caused him to have his bp elevated but after the nurses made him feel comfortable along with the amazing Dr, who figured out what my fiance like and he held a conversation about basketball & Lebron & instantly that conversation relaxed my fiance bp then drop to normal range, when i say this has been the best dentist we been to the staff is very friendly they greet all patients by last name (very professional). My fiance had to get wisdom teeth removed when i say the surgery was a huge success i love that office i will be going there also to have my wisdom teeth removed. FYI the dr personally called to even follow up and make sure my fiance was doing great after the surgery and that alone made me love that office even more.. I was so nervous to have all of my wisdom teeth pulled out at once but I had to get it done before continuing with my other work.. Dr. Cheung &his staff were so nice! He explained all of the things that could possibly go wrong during the surgery but with him I just felt I was in good hands. I had 3 wisdom teeth taken out here. It was a fast procedure. Everything worked out, and the office is a nice environment. Rennie Cheung is a nice person too. No complaints. I had used local anesthesia for the procedure, and getting those shots were the only uncomfortable parts of procedure, but that is the case everywhere. After my mouth was numb, the dentist checked to make sure no pain was felt. After that, the teeth were quickly removed. Right now I am on day 3 after the procedure, and I have no pain where the teeth were removed. I was given instructions on how to care for the extraction sites and I got a phone call from Dr. Cheung the day after. This is the place to go for tooth extractions. read more

I went to this so called Dr about my jaw that was in pain from getting knocked in the face while playing basketball. He said i had tmj. so he puts me on a soft diet for 2 months so the swelling can go down. then when i get my check up(2 months later), he basically said "your stuck with this for ever"? he also mocked me because i said i have pain to unlock my jaw when i talk. he mocked me and said "we dont talk like this" opening his mouth wide open. This guy wasted my time, unprofessional and to top it off he said"go to ucla, they handle these things"? Why didnt he tell me that in the first place?? He was no help at all!! so i was in the building for about 5 min and now im charged $115 for this guy to mock me and tell me theres no fix. like the others, i would agree that rennie is awesome. has great "chairside manner" & makes you feel really comfortable. i had all 4 wisdom teeth yanked 3 days ago and am recovering fabulously. the office is nice and clean & the staff is friendly. my only complaint is that there was a major lack of post-op care. no real instructions were provided to me as to what to eat/what not to eat/what to do. of course, one can guess these things given the nature of your swollen gums/mouth post op, but it never hurts for someone to advise you of when you can ideally go back to eating solid foods again. also, i had to read up on my own about "dry socket" and the possible causes and how to hopefully avoid it. no mention of this condition was made to me by the staff at any point. they did call to check in on me 3 days post surgery, however, when i asked if there was anything i need to be aware of or look out for, they simply replied "nope". i just chuckled. really? what if i had a bag of chips and all my scabs fell off and i got dry socket in all 4 holes?!?! geeez mans. getting your wisdom teeth pulled is not like some scrape you get after falling off a bike. it's a major procedure with the possibility of some major pains. a successful & speedy procedure is just the half of it. post op care is critical and should not be ignored. they should be a bit more cognizant of this. read more

I saw Dr. Cheung in January 2009. i thought he was a really great doctor and a nice guy. i was in so much pain with my wisdom tooth. he removed it under general anesthesia because i am a freak when it comes to things in my mouth. after the surgery, he even called me that night to see how i was doing. well, a few days later i had so much pain from a dry socket. i called the office and they told me to come in right away. he put some medication into the hole and wow, a lot of the pain went away in an hour. hope you all never get a dry socket. well, overall i thought he was great doctor and their staff was very caring even when i was in so much pain. i would recommend him to anyone needing a tooth removed. read more
