Dr. Farnad performed wisdom teeth extraction on me (all four) at my dentist's office and I can say with complete confidence it was the worst dental/medical experience I've ever been through. From minutes before the procedure to now weeks later it has been nothing short of traumatic. However, I have been reassured that my experience is 'completely normal' for this doctor, so I figured it would be in the best interest of anyone who wants to know that I share a little of what you might be in for! Before going into the exam room I was given multiple pages to fill out and sign, with the anesthetic portion left blank, I let the receptionist know that no one has discussed this with me so I didn't know what to write. She let me know that they would give me the full run-down when I got in with the doctor. Reader, this did not happen, sorry to say. I got into the room and within minutes monitors were placed and an IV needle was inserted into my arm. I'm not good with needles so I looked away when Dr. Farnad inserted the IV, and subsequently pushed whatever medicine it was that he gave me. Again, I want to stress, I had no idea whatsoever what was going to happen to me, so imagine my surprise when I WOKE UP in the middle of the operation. I learned later that I was given IV sedation, so I was never 'all the way out' but wherever I had gone during the first half of the extraction, I was definitely back. I remember every part of it: my hysterical sobbing, Dr. Farnad telling me to stop fighting him or it would take four hours, the male assistant brought in to hold my head still, my apologizing for fighting but 'it hurts so bad', then him giving me another shot in my mouth as he continued to have to break apart one of my wisdom teeth. At no point was it acknowledged that I was most definitely back in the room with them until afterward the assistant said, "huh, so THAT'S oral surgery," and when I responded saying that was an insane thing to announce to a patient, he commented to the other assistant "I'm surprised she's so alert," to which she said "Yeah, but she'll be out again as soon as she's in the car." Reader, again I have to inform you that this did not happen. Now we're weeks out from the surgery, and I'm experiencing absolutely mind blowing levels of nerve irritation in my chin. I went back in to speak with my dentist who let me know that it sounded like nerve damage, between the numbness and the painful tingling. (Note: the dentist brought up the nerve damage, not me.) Today I had the displeasure of going to a follow up with Dr. Farnad who showed up for our appointment an HOUR late. When I brought up the potential nerve damage he immediately dismissed me with a condescending "Oh so you let the internet scare you." Then he let me know that this kind of numbness and nerve pain was so common with his patients, he sees it all the time, and that the pain and numbness will be gone within the next two and a half months. He then asked the assistant for x-rays to see how it looked internally. This was when I really began to question his competence, because while looking at my x-ray he said: a) he left a cap in to not disturb the nerve, b) did not leave a cap in, he left a bunch of room for the nerve, c) was unable to tell if he had done a bone graft for me, and asked if I had paid for one to settle the matter. He then gave me his personal phone number and encouraged me to stay off the internet, because it's only going to scare me. Well sorry, I went back on the internet.

I immediately saw my general dentist, who recommended that the tooth be extracted and replaced with an implant. As you can imagine, I was extremely nervous and anxious about the idea of oral surgery. I reached out to Dr. Sam Vahedi's office, and from the very first interaction, they were incredibly accommodating and professional. They understood the urgency of my situation and scheduled me promptly, which immediately helped put me at ease. The moment I walked into the office and met Dr. Vahedi, I felt calm and reassured. He has a very confident yet kind demeanor that instantly builds trust. They performed a CT scan, and Dr. Vahedi took the time to thoroughly explain exactly what was going on and what the plan would be. He explained that the first step would be extracting the broken tooth, which had three roots. During the procedure, he carefully numbed the area. There was only minimal discomfort with the numbing, and after that, I truly did not feel any pain at all. I could feel some pressure and hear some crunching, but there was absolutely no pain. Throughout the entire process, I felt completely confident in Dr. Vahedi's technical expertise and knowledge. It was clear that I was in very capable hands, and sure enough, he did a magnificent job. His assistant, Heidi, was also wonderful--very attentive, reassuring, and kind. I was so relaxed during the procedure that they actually thought I had fallen asleep! That alone speaks volumes about how comfortable and stress-free the experience was. I will be returning in several months for the next steps of my implant process, and I am extremely grateful that Dr. Sam Vahedi is my oral surgeon. If anyone ever asks me who they should see for oral surgery, extractions, or implants, I will unconditionally and enthusiastically recommend Dr. Vahedi. I ended up having dry sockets on my bottom 2 extractions and even though I'm still in pain as I write this, Dr. Vahedi has seen me twice after my surgery to give me dry socket paste and answer my many questions. He's a busy man, but has been able to squeeze me in and each time I've waited no more than 10-15 minutes. I've also called him 2-3x after hours and on the weekend to ask additional questions I couldn't find the answer to online. His family probably hates me for bothering him. Steph at the front desk is a pleasure to chat with over the phone every time and the office is really clean! I've just been really impressed with how much the staff here care about your well being and comfort. Prices are a bit high but it's West LA. My insurance was great so I didn't have to pay too much out of pocket. If you're looking for excellent care, it's no wonder this place has stellar reviews. So no scans were needed. We were very clear in wanting a detailed treatment plan, timelines, and cost. We got nothing!!! Instead, we were referred to Dr. Aaron Schwartzman, a prosthodontist. He explained that he needed to consult with Dr. Schwartzman to come up with a comprehensive plan. We then made an appointment to see Dr. Schwartzman at the Prosthodonic Center which we were initially told would cost $285 for the consult. When we arrived, we spoke about different options, however nothing was definitive. He said he would speak with Dr. Kupferman for the final treatment plan and include costs and timelines. He gave me a loose VERBAL range of what he thought it might be. Then later wanted to charge an additional $700+ for more scans and tests. We already came in with a recent CT and Xrays. This would have cost close to $1000 for just the initial visit. Between the two of the Doctors, it would have been over $1500+. We stopped at $285 with Dr. Schwartzman. This was a complete RIP OFF. To be tossed around from one doctor to another without getting a proper comprehensive treatment plan, timelines and costs is absolutely ridiculous . We paid a total of $835 for NOTHING. NOTHING. NOTHING. This is highly unethical and I regret coming here. I plan to file several complaints to prevent this from happening to others.

Fixed me right on up, relieved my pain, and pulled the tooth because it was badly decayed and could not be restored. When I tell you this dentist is among the best if not thee Best. He is. Prior to…read morecoming here I called ahead & asked if the oral surgeon performs surgery for cysts within the mouth. I was told yes. I have a cyst near my sinus cavity (not visible) & I had been told by my dentist & an endodontist to see an oral surgeon for this issue. It took me well over an hour just to get here & I saw Dr. Cedeno. It seemed to me that he did not feel comfortable performing the work I need. In his words he believes the cyst (if it is a cyst) is benign and not too concerning. He then tried to upsell me into getting my wisdom teeth removed which he later said that they were ok. I came well prepared with a flash drive of a CT Scan I had previously paid for with provided instructions and his medical assistant seemed to have trouble uploading it & she hit me with the "our systems must be different & that is why we can't view it" yet meanwhile the instructions remained in the envelope never even opening it. She seemed to struggle with using the computer, I can only think she is new. As someone who has previously worked in the medical field I know incompetence when I see it & I genuinely felt that on my visit. From previous experience elsewhere I was told that the CT scan was the most accurate way to view the cyst and I did not want to go through another panoramic scan since I've already had 2 elsewhere. This experience has taught me that many places will bring you in bs you & just charge your insurance for an office visit/consultation & not do a damn thing for you. Dr. Cedeno ended the consultation with "Well I have to get going l have other important things to do" No regard to patient care. A simple thank you for coming in, but I must be leaving would suffice. The having more important things to do was very inconsiderate because you are deliberately making someone feel that they are an inconvenience to your schedule. I can attest that this information is truth & accurate for my experiences & BY THE WAY YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR PARKING. I was charged $20 for their parking & my visit was only about half an hour.
