I had a root canal - one of those molars all the way in the back behind another tooth and at an angle - on Wednesday morning at 10:30am and made it through a 1/2 shift at work that afternoon. Imagine my surprise when I got home to see my mom just ending a call with Dr. Shinn, who has called to check on me! I was so surprised and pleased that he cared enough to call when he had deserved his time off after my procedure. While root canals aren't fun, the alternatives are worse, so Dr. Shinn and his staff made the situation as good as it could possibly be. He explained everything that was going to happen along each step of the way and wasn't disturbed when I asked questions or for procedures to be clarified. He also explained my x-rays to me. There are some documents to review, billing and medical consent that you have all the time to read and ask questions about. There were of course... Shots... He does them very well and the topical anesthetic they rub on the inside of your mouth over the shot area is nice and strong. I would say nothing felt worse than a bee sting. What I 100% appreciated is that after the first round of shots he came in and asked me if I was numb - guess what? I was but not enough. He gave me another round of shots that made everything afterwards more than bearable, almost dare I say it? Comfortable. Because of the tooth location things took a little while. Sr. Shinn also took X-rays during the procedure, given how far back my tooth was this just reinforced the fact that he pays an insane attention to detail and made sure the procedure was done accurately. All in all I am extremely satisfied with his professionalism, compassion, patience, and also the help of his staff. It's Friday and I have already referred him to two people. If I am ever unfortunate enough to need another root canal - remember he's an endodontist, a dental specialist - I would go back for his services in a minute. read more

Recently a friend with a swollen jaw asked if I knew anyone that's had a root canal. He's scared of dental pain. I once had a weekend dental emergency, my jaw was swollen and tender. I didn't know the cause I had never had what was later diagnosed as needing a root canal. I suffered until Monday. 8:30 am I waited in my care until my primary dentist arrived. One look she knew what it was. She referred me. I had to get there in less than 15 minutes if I wanted to be seen. Rush hour traffic, crazy, I made it. The staff was waiting and put me in a chair right away while I filled out paper work. A couple minutes later, I met Dr. Shinn. All smiles, cheerful greeting. That helped a lot. Also the office is beautiful, the music was soothing along with a tourist view of LA. X - Rays, I have a severe gag reflex. Dr. Shinn said you won't experience that here. He went all the way to the back of my mouth where I normally gag and I did not gag. He would not reveal his secrets. he just laughed and said that's 47 years of experience to develop unique techniques. The same for numbing. The needle did its thing. I'm totally not lying, all I felt was a tingle/pinch. I told my friend he must share his root canal experience from Dr. Shinn. Dr. Shinn, this is a public apology to you. All the while I thought I wrote a review after my experience. I'm glad in this case, it's never too late. It's not my thing to write reviews or take surveys. Especially surveys, because companies are so cheap, they want your experiences to help raise their profits but offer no incentives to customers. I was referred to Dr. George B. Shinn by my primary dental office and decided to contact his office first. My experience was quite disappointing. I called around noon on Wednesday, 01/16, during normal business hours, but only reached the office's voicemail. When I called again two hours later, I spoke with Michelle F., the Office Manager, who was working from home and came across as very unprofessional. Despite being in pain and needing urgent dental care, I scheduled an appointment. Michelle mentioned she would email me some intake forms and then requested my Social Security number to verify my insurance before confirming the appointment. I felt extremely uncomfortable providing such sensitive information over the phone to a stranger, especially since I had never visited this office before. Michelle's attitude was more like a pushy salesperson than a professional healthcare worker. She claimed that Dr. Shinn was voted the best endodontist in the "United States of America," a fact I couldn't verify online or from any other reputable resource and he could do most things that other doctors can no do because he has been practicing for 50 years which also makes me a little nervous. She also insisted that if I did not provide her with my Social Security number over the phone, I couldn't be seen by Dr. Shinn. What if I was paying cash? What an ignorant person. Overall, my experience with Dr. Shinn's office was frustrating and unprofessional. I would not recommend this office based on my initial interaction. If I were Dr. Shinn, I would find more professional staff to represent my business. More than anything, it's their loss of revenue and potential referrals. If you are referred to this business, please find another endodontist as we have plenty of qualified options in the "United States of America". It's sad because I really wanted to support my own people, but I will be taking my dental needs to another practice that doesn't operate this way, as most do. Very knowledgeable dentist. Very caring and so was his staff. Root canal went well and I experienced no pain.

Where do I start. I was having issues with a tooth that had a prior root canal and I was recommended to see Dr. Shinn. I was able to get in quickly. Upon my arrival the the lady at the front desk was so sweet and pleasant. She had me fill out the standard new patient paperwork and took care of contacting my dentist and getting my insurance information. I recommend getting in 10 minutes early to square this away and park. I didn't have a wait and was taken to my little exam room. My room was beautiful and man did it have a great view. The assistant came and took a digital x-ray. Than I got the pleasure of meeting Dr. Shinn. Let me start with I'm nervous dental patient as most people are. He was warm and very kind. He listened to my concerns regarding my little tooth. He examined the area and took notes. You could see that he genuinely cared and want to make sure he took his time to figure out the game plan. He was able to pin point the issue and went right to work. The man has hands light as a feather. Remember I'm a nervous person, he administered the numbing and I didn't feel a thing. At that moment I knew everything was going to be okay. He talked me through the process and patched me right up. He sent me home with some medication and care instructions. I woke the next morning with ZERO pain!!! I didn't have to take any pain medication after the first day. Than to top up off the day after first thing in the morning his receptionist called to check how I was feeling. It's great to know that there are places out there that still care and have exceptional service. Not to mention honesty not taking advantage of people. Let's just say this I hope to never have to use his services again LOL but if your in the Los Angeles area I highly recommend seeing Dr. Shinn. I live in Las Vegas but made the trip as he was highly recommended to me. It was worth it. His office is located on the 12th floor. There is a parking structure within the building that's ample. I am not one to go online to express personal feelings, but Dr Shinn has "cured" my pain when my very own dentist of 13 years gave up on me. He methodically asked me questions and wrote down his findings and from this he was able to take away my pain that was increasing for 3 months. It started going up towards my jaws and to my ears!
