Purchased a used 2020 Ford Explorer ST from Varsity Ford in Ann Arbor on 3/3/26. Unfortunately, the vehicle had a wind/water leak immediately after leaving the dealership. To their credit, the dealership did attempt multiple repairs and eventually provided a rental during one of the visits, but the process became extremely frustrating. Since purchasing the vehicle, I've had to make repeated trips back to the service department for the same unresolved issues. The Explorer sat for hours during one appointment without being looked at, I went several visits without any loaner assistance, and communication between departments often seemed disconnected. On top of the original leak issue, a leaking rear shock, rear main seal leak, oil plug leak, and a metal-on-metal noise were later discovered. Some staff members, including Lance and Shaun, were helpful and professional when addressing concerns, but overall the experience has been disappointing considering how soon these problems started after purchase. As of my latest visit, the metal hitting noise is still present despite multiple attempted fixes. I understand used vehicles can have issues, but I expected better inspection, communication, and follow-through from a large dealership. read more

Extremely POOR service department. They ignore issues that vehicles are specifically sent there for and deliver the vehicle back to their customer not completed. Truck came back with the same service vehicle message it left with. What dealership service sends vehicles back to their customers with the vehicle service lights all still on and issues not addressed? They can explain this to Ford Motor Company when this drivetrain that they ignored completely fails. I will be filing a formal complaint with Ford Motor Company on this dealership. Definitely will never do business with this terrible chop shop again. This issue was blatantly ignored by this so called service department and sent back unresolved. Communication was spot on, serviced and completed as promised and all I encountered were friendly and polite. Perhaps I was lucky but I feel they really surpassed all my expectations. When I called to request an appointment they only offered options 3 weeks out. When I asked for help they bounced me to 5 different people then hung up on me. I had recall on a windshield that caused it to leak. I schedule an appointment a month out to get the new windshield. After having the car for 3 days, they told me they had "Ordered" the windshield and could I leave it for another few days. I was told I was suppose to have coordinating getting the windshield ordered and that their service deparment doesn't work well with their body shop. My advice, find a dealer who cares enough to get coordinate your service ahead of time. read more

Three years pass and my lease is up during the middle of a pandemic. My main guy Rich calls me up and tells me we can do this thing all remotely. I'm in, I say! 6 years with an Escape and I didn't plan on changing anything so I told him my preferred color, interior, and features. In minutes he's got quotes and window stickers coming into my phone. Got nearly everything I wanted for significantly cheaper than I'd been paying for the last 3 years (the only trade off was one feature that would have bumped me up to a higher level, it was worth passing on to keep the savings). We did all the paperwork online via e-sign and they had someone drop the car off, fully gloved up and masked, in my driveway. A quick switch of plates and a wave goodbye to my old Escape and he was off. Practically no contact at all and the whole process took two days. One day to pick out the vehicle and another to complete the paperwork and get the keys. The incentives and rebates right now are wild. If you've been on the fence about a new car but have been putting it off, now's the time. I'm saving about $40 a month on my payment! Can't go wrong with that. My new car is a real beauty and I'm enjoying admiring her in the driveway. I won't be driving her much over the next few months but that just makes the new car smell last all the longer. Car purchase and service We purchased a new 2016 Ford Taurus on 12/30/16. We walked in with a couple vehicles in mind, but weren't sure before test driving. The dealership is open during remodel and the sales room is bright and welcoming, so don't let the remodel keep you away. There are great sales going on at this time of year. We were promptly greeted and made welcome. Initially we were with one saleswoman who was happy to help us, however, too busy to complete the sale. She did get us the cars we asked to test drive though. After the test drives and ready to purchase, we moved to Bill Harb who was fantastic. Experienced, kind, and best part is he searched for all possible rebates on the car. After we decided on the car, started the paperwork, prep the car for delivery, I think it took about 2-3 hours. Final price, including all rebates was about $8k less than sticker. I love my new car. Who doesn't love a new car though. The following week, on a drive into work, low tire pressure light popped up. I scooted in after a quick call to the service department. Turns out my tires just needed to be topped off due to the cold snap we were having. I hope all future interactions are as smooth and enjoyable as they have been so far. My husband purchased his personal F250 last year, his company F150 truck last month, and his mother's F150 in November, all from Varsity. read more

Methinks not is right. Go to Briarwood Ford, it's worth the drive. 1. I have years of experience being treated poorly by "used car salesmen" and the management. 1993 - Bought a used truck that was "guaranteed" for 60 or 90 days. Day 50, they refused any and all repairs because the undercarriage was muddy and I "abused" my truck. It was 9 year old truck with 120,000 miles and they wouldn't fix anything. 2. Someone else in my family recently scheduled a recall repair, 2 months ahead of time because they were "backed up". Took it in today and was told they would give me a rental car for A MONTH because they're still backed up. What? I rescheduled it at Briarwood Ford. It's a bit further, but if they keep their appointments, it's worth it. But what a cluster hassle getting all the cars and kids to school/work this morning, only to find out it was unnecessary. Thanks again Varsity. 3. The number of horror stories I have heard from other local purchases exceed any rational conclusion other than they don't care about customers, they care about profit and their convenience first, you're down the list. Update (a few hours later): In an attempt to get me to remove this review, Varsity Ford has now called me (not leaving a message) and then my wife, after they 'figured out' who we are. Awful just plain awful. I was in contact with Amanda Roach whom promised via phone/email that they were going to accept Ford plan X pricing. I drove 2.5 hours. Arrived at 2pm, 1 hour before closing. She shows me the car and right off the bat she tells me that she has no time and has to go to a birthday party and plans to leave ASAP then asks me if I'm going to buy the car and fill out the credit application. Then she assesses my trade and comes back will the lowest number for the trade on the internet and tells me that they will not honor X plan pricing and they want the sticker price plus extra $1000. Of course I walked out and she didn't even try to stop or try to work out the deal (because she had birthday party to attend to). Update 10/11: Sales manager Keith Friday reached out to me. I went to look at an Escape at Varsity Ford few weeks back, & had a poor experience I feel I should share. Everything was going ok until i asked a second time how many owners the vehicle had, the carfax was different then most due to it being from Canada. It just wasn't clear how many owners it had previously. My salesman seemed bothered by my Curiosity, only answer he gave me was "I don't know, I wasn't the salesman on that deal" seemed like a lazy answer. Then I commented on how most Escapes with 2.0 engine sell very quickly and this vehicle they had with that engine has been there for at least a month, I asked if there was a reason for that. He did not like that question! He proceeded to talk down to me and explain the used car game to me . I test drove the Vehicle and decided to make an offer. I offered a large down payment and $1,500 under asking price. I was immediately turned down and told that could never happen. Once i got in my car the texts started ‍ negotiating over text while I'm on the highway isn't happening bud. Even after I ignored the laziness and disrespect I still made a fair offer. I was contacted through email by a rep asking how my visit went. I explained how i felt talked down to and disrespected, surprise she never responded. We visited Varsity Ford yesterday with the intention to purchase a new car. As soon as we entered the showroom we saw that approximately 25% of the employees were not wearing masks. I was told that Varsity was following the law, and that masks were not necessary indoors as long as people were six feet apart. I did notice that employees walked past each other, well within six feet without masks. After we left, I called the showroom and was connected to the manager, a man identified as "Keith". When I registered my concern, I was told that it was only "my opinion" that masks were necessary inside. He was quite rude. We went immediately to Gene Butman Ford in Ypsilanti. Ouch! Imagine how perplexed we were when the rear window on our 2003 Ford Excursion broke while we were out of town on a ski trip. The piston that held up the rear window was nearly out of gas. Now add super-cold temperatures. The window fell hard when my hubby let go. Glass crumblies were falling like snow. Oh, how were we going to fix this? We were able to tape some plastic over the gaping wound so that we could get in one more day of skiing and then return home. On Monday, we contacted Varsity Ford and they fixed the window before the end of the week. Good as new. Whew! read more

I have been purchasing and leasing cars from Varsity Ford for over twenty years and have always found their sales people to be very professional and courteous in a "low key" manner that is very respectful of the customer's intelligence and purchasing time frame. The service department has also proven to be excellent. Their time and cost estimates are accurate and fair. They "fix it right" the first time, I've never had to go back to a second visit for the same issue. They are very prompt in processing you at check in, I usually get in and out the check in process in under ten minutes. Overall good experience buying a new car at Varsity through Whirl. When I called to ask for quotes, he was pretty quick on responding and was very knowledgeable about the rebates available. The car selection is bar none for the area. The driving of a bunch of different cars is kinda fun, and there's a nice route from this place to get it up to speed (I94). They just remodeled the place too, so it's looking good inside. The day I came to pick up the car, it was pretty quick, but had an issue getting all the paperwork in hand. (OK, They did let me take a mustang out, thats a pretty sweet ride, I should have gotten one of those when I was younger.) VW let me drive their VW R, so now I will go to Subaru and try their STI and say forget you Fords? Update After Response: I kicked you up a star, everyone there has been nice but I stand by my argument- the dealer that let me test drive my death machine- I mean, fast motorcycle got my money... The dealer that let me drive my Turbo Twin w Sport suspension that made all the difference - got my money ...The dealer that let me drive their VW R will prob get my money...when I test drive the Subie STI - I may fall in love and THEY will get my money. I have been taking my car there for service since I moved to Ann Arbor. I took my car in for what sounded like a bad muffler. They told me a part needed to be replaced, but they didn't have the equipment to replace that one part. They told me the only thing they could do is replace the entire exhaust system. They recommended a local muffler shop and said it would cost a couple hundred dollars instead of a couple thousand dollars to replace the whole system. It ends up that the part that needs replacing is actually $1000 online, and the shop I talked to said it was very difficult to install, and would probably cost quite a bit to install. However, they also noted that my brake pads were almost completely gone. I would have expected the Ford dealer to be checking things like that as I brought my car in for oil changes. Because of both of those things, I no longer trust the service department. I have had very good service technicians there in the past, but the most recent one was not very polite, and seem to treat me as though I didn't know what I was talking about. It may not have been the case, but I also felt like the reason I wasn't getting treated nicely was because I was a woman. I am looking for a new company to help take care of my car now. I've always had good care in the past, but even when I talk to the service manager about the muffler situation, I got the same exact story from him. read more
