Compared to the local shops at home, this east coast haunt has more collectibles. What are we defining as a common collectible? As an example they stock the old Mario Hats and movie props to make life easier to scare away people . They have all sorts of Hello Kitty stuff. The twins found themselves all sorts of strange collectibles that we just had to have . The games were great too, but they already have that new tech, we are building past memories. Do NOT take card here to be graded. My young son saved up money to get some Pokemon cards graded, and they were lost somewhere along the way after being grade. We called the local store we dropped them off at, and they pointed us to call GameStop corporate. GameStop corporate told us to just go to the store. Nobody is willing to do anything to help, and my poor 12 year old son gave them money, cards probably worth more than $200, and now he has nothing. read more

Make sure you're a member if not they'll treat you like dog sh*t. After declining if I wanted to be a GameStop member, I ask sales associate #1 if they could price match their own website. All of a sudden I hear (assuming) a manager yell "we don't price match". I then said "I'm good then, I'll buy it online.", the manager then adds "oh if you buy it online you have to pay for shipping and you need to spend a lot more for free shipping". All this happening while have the items in my cart at GameStop.com and staring at the button that says "pick up in stores" (at the location I was at) for free. Lol why not just price adjust it so we all can move on with our day... Decided to buy what I needed at Best Buy to not deal with the hassle. Great experience here after having a frustrated gaming holiday... Went to a Gamestop near my town to get Infamous 2nd Son preowned for the PS4. 1st time: did not work at all after multiple tries. Went and return it for another disc. Work fine until after the prologue... Would not installed despite having tried for a whole week to get it to work. Mind you both time the disc have fingerprint smudges on them. Went to this Gamestop in Coolidge Corner to get the Last of Us for PS4, they did not have it but offer to ship it to my apt (free shipping) asap! I asked casually about my I2S problem and they promptly suggest that I can return that one and they will give me another one! Return the day after and even though it wasn't the same cashier, they still give me another copy! Without my asking, let me see that the disc was in perfect condition without any gross finger smudges yayyy Thank goodness it was just a faulty disc, because with this new copy, my game installed within seconds! So happy to be playing I2S now and can't wait for LOU to get here. Great experience from a confused gamer. I was ready to not play Infamous forever because I had no clue what the problem was. So glad I don't have to use it as a Frisbee now. Very helpful and attentive as I was bumbling through my questions. All staffs were nice and will definitely becoming back for more games to feed my PS4 ^^ read more

This is second time my partner I went into this store to sell gaming items such as Xbox or controller. Each time I felt bad because we were treated very poorly, the question they ask are rude I don't think they ask that kind of question to any other customer especially white customer and at this point its clear that they made me and my partner feel bad about going in there ever again. Even the way they approached us I feel the energy of annoyance and impermanence like as soon as they us this rush of trying to get us out of their shop asap. It's an inhumane behavior! When you have such a preconceived notion and hate towards certain group of people for absolutely no reason then I don't understand why open a shop that's supposed to cater to everyone! read more

Always an interestingly absurd place to visit. Almost every time I walk into this store there is a female clerk there that loves to act really corny with other employees. So much so they start ignoring customers. Last Time I went in they were for at least 10 minutes trying to do their secret nerd handshake, high fiving and I don't even know anymore. I had to interrupt them to pay for my selection of "leftover" games from the rack, in which she looked irritated. The games I picked out were some 360 games, they had some deal at the time on them. All the games I picked out had the manuals and Paper outer insert covers. Upon paying the female employee (no name badge) swapped out the games I took from the used rack with other used games behind the counter trying to give me cover inserts with the Gamestop logo on them printed from cheap printer paper, I said what is this? She said, "oh' well if you want the other ones I'll give you those" with a nice attitude to go along with it. She also gave me a Steel box edition rather than the regular I picked out which would have been nice if not had been for the old food stuck all over the case, There was a lot of it. (didn't notice till I was almost home). So the Staff really needs to get their stuff together. The games people bring in to trade they do not clean at all Look at the games they put in your bag before you purchase as they will swap out the game boxes you picked out of generic gamestop ones. Also always check the Cds as they are usually scratched up. Gamestop is loosing stores, there is a reason. People are shopping online and mom and pop retro stores are popping up everywhere, which are way more knowledgeable, clean their games, check them for you before you leave and you can find much better deals. This store is definitely not helping Gamestop. read more

We waited at this Gamestop for 10 hours for the release of the Nintendo Switch. During our stay, the associates here were incredibly kind, caring, and considerate. The store manager (Max) was focused on maintaining a safe and organized atmosphere, and the release was very smooth. I wholly respect this Gamestop location for being so down-to-earth and nice, and not making us stand outside in the cold, and being transparent with the supply of extra consoles so as not to waste people's time. When I went to the store in in Brookline to pick up a game that was pre-ordered and paid for, I was told that if I did not pick up the game within 48 hours of their phone call, they could put the paid item back in circulation and sell it... I find this a very bad policy since it had been paid. As a result I will no longer shop at Game Stop.... read more

So know when you read this that I am not really really into video games. I play Wii some times and like it that's about it and that might be where the problem lies. In a game of Wii tennis a friend chucked a controller into the floor and broke it. I went to pick up a new one. I walk into the store about 10 minutes before it closes but just had to pick up the controller so I didn't think it would be a problem. Before the door closed behind me the guy behind the counter said, "Can I help you?" I said I was just looking for a new Wii controller and he said, "Well we keep all those behind the counter so you will have to talk to me. " I said ok, but can I just look at the different ones you have on display? He said fine. In about 30 seconds he came over to where I was looking and said, "So which color do you want?"..... This went on for a little. It wasn't that the sales person was rude but clearly didn't get I just needed a minute or two to see them for myself and figure it out. I know that he probably wanted to close on time but still just felt a little pushed to make a decision and buy it. read more

The employee yelled at me and said I called you myself and left a message. I researched my phone logs, I know they didn't. I even researched my call logs with my cell phone company. This is my local Gamestop, and my Gamestop of choice. The staff here are knowledgeable and friendly. They're always willing to talk about new and upcoming releases, or just help you pick out a gift when you're not sure what someone might like. Between my husband and I, we own a Wii, an Xbox 360, and a Playstation 3, so we have a lot of consoles. The selection here is not the best, but the staff is what really sets this location apart. When Wii Sports Resort came out, one of the staff members took the time to teach me how to use the new motion plus controller and how to play the mini games. It has the same selection and prices as other gamestops do. The staff is decent, and a little better than some other stores. It's a nice neighborhood, and pretty decent when you want to go for a midnight release. I've bought plenty of used games here and had them work fine, but when it comes to consoles and controllers I don't buy used (seems too risky to me), so I can't speak to some of the problems others have discussed. Three stars for "okay" selection and prices. But, sadly enough, I don't know of anyplace better to buy video games. read more

As of now, my local Gamestop. The employees are pretty cool. The usual xbox360/ps3/wii/ds selections. What makes this place different from that of even back bay is the used pc/ps2/gamecube selection. You don't see this so much anymore but they still have a decent selection. It was cool of them to host a 12am odst release the other night... The staff here isn't consistent, but I've had some great chats with some of them about anything from Nintendo DS systems to Japanese 2D fighting games. They have a pretty deep selection of Used games even though their regular stock runs pretty thin (new products sell out quick here!). Store setup is almost too open for the amount of stuff (high ceilings? PS2 controllers requiring ladders to reach? it's more quirky than inconvenient though) and the only bad side is that a lot of young spoiled kids come in from Brookline. Verdict: worth a look if you're looking for a classic to play, very knowledgeable staff, and convenient location. read more

I could not disagree more with both reviews here posted by Alex S. and Brian D. It's unfortunate that people like this feel the need to speak poorly of one of the best retail staffs that I have experienced ever. Every single salesperson that I have experienced is exceptional here. They are helpful extremely knowledgeable and professional. Every time that I go here they ALL set the bar well above the average mark for retail employees. Max is always helpful with my indecisive decision making personality and is unbelievable knowledgeable about upcoming games and games that I might like. I'm not sure how I could really have a better experience than the ones I do here, especially seeing as I am not a huge gamer and they help me along. Again, it is unfortunate that people like Alex S. and Brian D. feel the need to whine about obvious characteristics that will always go hand in hand with retail experiences but I guess some people just like to complain. even though it's a chain, i still see gamestop as "the little guy" in comparison to the behemoths that are best buy/wal-mart, etc. but this gamestop doesn't provide the customer service i would expect out of a specialty boutique, which is why - despite the fact that they're right across the street from my apartment - i'll no longer go to them first for my gaming needs. now, i know with all of these super-high demand games and consoles coming out as of late, it is difficult to please everyone. but there's no need to add insult to injury. - why is it necessary to have a prominent and misleading display completely full of wii fit boxes when you don't have any in stock? - why, when i ask you when you expect your next shipment, you have no idea? - why. when we mention that the display is misleading, did you just say, "oh yeah, i guess it kinda is" and then just leave it? - why don't you provide waiting lists, like FYE? they get the niche thing - entice the customer by differentiating yourself! i ended up happily supporting the man by purchashing my wii fit at best buy. when i saw that there were none available on their designated shelf and i asked the kid who works there, he gave me a specific date they'd get a shipment (and it was a week out!), and even gave me a heads up as to the time they opened that day so i could make it in time in case there was a rush. much more helpful! read more

In the never ending quest for games - old and new - for my GF's son's gaming systems, more often than not they come up with what we need. If they don't have it in stock they can usually get it transferred from another store within a day or two, or for a fee, have it sent directly to you. Staff are helpful and knowledgeable. The only knock I could give, and it's a minor one - I'm sure dictated from corporate - that they push their membership program a little too aggressively. It's tiresome and annoying to be pressured every visit. read more

This store has frustrated me multiple times to the point where they have lost a few sales from me. One case was when the staff was nerding out on a tangent about their favorite new games or something and would not shut up when there were people in line. I put my purchase back and the customer apologized rather than the socially awkward employee. It's not his fault!! The worker was the one getting paid but she was too busy rambling to even care. Today I called about a new 3DS game and they said they only had copies for those who reserved it and had no clue when another copy would come in 'perhaps a few weeks'.... Why have a brick and mortar if Amazon or direct downloads are faster or cheaper OR both? Not everyone there is horrible and had made some purchases in but I don't think I'll waste anymore time trying here. read more

This used to be my local shop, and I still stop in from time to time. Until today. I was searching for nothing more than a USED xBox360 remote as I had broken mine the previous night. I was told they had one... for $60. I expressed surprise, and confirmed what I heard, and passed on it. I continued to browse for a few minutes, then asked the woman again, thinking I must have heard wrong both times. This time I was told $40. For an item that BestBuy sells new for $20! I've been to a lot of Gamestops, but this one is the best. They totally don't fit the stereotypes you always hear about this company. While I buy many games digitally now, I always go to this Gamestop for new hardware and pre-owned games. The associates remember me when I drop by and are always very friendly. Terrible customer service. I went in to return a video game that my wife purchased for me (game was fine but I already had a copy). The store clerk said 'no problem' when I told him that I wanted to return it, so I picked another copy and went to the register. Long story short, he tried to charge me full price for the game without giving me the return discount. Literally, I had just handed him the old game and the receipt, and he simply threw away the receipt within seconds. If I had not caught this, then I would have lost the return value. read more

Do not ever go to the Brookline Gamestop. And if this one is at all representative of the rest of the franchise, do not go to any Gamestop. The quality control there is awful and the staff is remarkably careless with their customers' time. I have made three trips there and still don't have a working system. I decided to buy a used x-box 360 just before Christmas when a Brookline Gamestop employee told me over the phone it was $99 with a free 1-year warranty. When I arrived at the checkout counter, it was $120--the deal had expired days ago. Not only that, I had to buy a $50 harddrive to be able to save any games. When I got home the controller wouldn't work. It had a rechargeable battery and they didn't include any charger. I was able to make it work by jamming pennies in to make regular batteries fit, but the left joystick was busted. It also had chocolate smeared on it by the last owner: it hadn't received even a basic cleaning. I made my second trip to Brookline Gamestop to exchange the controller and they gave me a working one with the correct battery pack. I made my third trip today because the system kept freezing and being unable to read discs, making me loose progress in my game. They were now all out of used x-boxes following Christmas and so are other local Gamestops, so, after three frustrating trips, I'm still stuck with a faulty system. In summary, they told me the wrong price, didn't tell me about other expenses, didn't even clean the product they were selling, gave me the wrong battery pack, and two products were faulty. Uh...It's a Gamestop. They're all basically the same. Any complaints I have with them are with decisions made way, way, waaaaaay above the pay grade of any employee at the store (used game scams blah blah blah). Service is what you'd expect from a Gamestop - a mixed bag of either friendly or almost entirely impersonal, though I have found that more often than not, they're friendly. Just make sure that you go in knowing what it is you want, or you'll probably get misled. Also, when pre-ordering, make sure you know what the release date is before you go in, because their release dates are notoriously incorrect. read more

The employees of this store (with the exception of the manager) are often rude and lazy about their jobs. When I was buying my 3DS I got lectured about how expensive it was by a certain female employee, and how she has to pay for college and can't afford video games. Instead of leaving the store in good spirits because I just got a 3DS I left feeling guilty because she couldn't afford one?? The employees never smile but will have a sort of grimmace on their faces. Most employees give me the feeling they don't want to be working and often make customers uncomfortable for asking questions about products. Many times I've been given false information about products. Also, the prices at this store are pretty insane. I generally get a sickness in my stomach if I know I am going to go to this store. That is not worth it considering Best Buy has nicer employees and much nicer prices. Best Buy is just over by Fenway too which is not far from this Gamestop. read more
