This is by far one of the most unprofessional experiences I've had with a service provider. These guys make Comcast look fantastic. Our trashcan was taken by Republic Services driver, which I get, it happens. However, it's been almost 3 months and we still have no words when our new trash can is here. We're getting charged, yet, cannot use their service for the past 3 months and god knows how many more months. Edit: Originally a 1 star due to us having to wait 3 months for a trash bin that is no one's fault. The customer service rep was understanding and helpful. We now expect the trash bin to arrive sometime next week. read more

I reported that our waste bin was not picked up assuming the driver missed our home. Got a text and automated phone call that it will be picked up by end of day. However, I found the bin still full the next day with no new updates from Republic Services. I reported it again and this time got a phone call from an irate employee informing in a very condescending tone that I had created the problem by putting in an object that is stuck and does not empty out trash on the hopper. I was a bit confused as the bin was half empty and the obstructing object was smaller than the bin(note that our bin is a full size bin). At this point, I again got an earful, was deemed argumentative and was threatened that the next pick up will also an issue if I do not resolve the problem. Note that the employee never acknowledge that they missed telling me about the situation yesterday and are sharing it now as I reported the issue again. I also don't think I was arguing, I was a bit skeptical that the said object would block emptying out a full size bin and certainly did not want to imply that I don't believe the driver. I do appreciate it that someone came out to attempt to pick up but I did not appreciate the lack of communications which required me to follow up and definitely don't appreciate the tone and attitude of the employee who called me with an update. I would rank this as my worst interaction ever with a representative of a business. FWIW...since I had remediate the problem, I flipped the cart and everything toppled out including the obstructing object. I dumped things back in but with the obstructing object at the bottom of bin. Garbage did not get picked up. Also haven't received a refund or credit for services missed during the strike last July 2025. I called twice and was told City of Newark and Republic Services haven't come to an agreement yet regarding a credit or refund. It has been 8 months and still getting the runaround. read more

I called customer service and in a world where everyone is always rushing to get to the next call, my service representative was not only knowledgeable but oh so patient. I had a few questions concerns and she took the time to make sure all my needs were met. I regret not catching her name but one thing for sure is Republic Services is VERY lucky to have her. This company truly needs to improve its service quality. Last Monday, during regular trash collection, they mistakenly took away my black trash bin. Since then, I have called their customer service multiple times. Each time, I was told the bin would be returned on Monday when they came to collect the other bins--but now it's already Thursday, and nothing has happened. Every time I call, they just say it's "on the way," but clearly, that's not true. It feels like I'm being repeatedly misled. We pay monthly for trash collection--shouldn't we at least receive reliable, basic service in return? I understand and appreciate the hard work of the sanitation workers, but I can't be expected to store piles of garbage at home. In this hot weather, the trash attracts rats, cockroaches, and other pests. This situation is unacceptable and poses a health risk. I ordered a dumpster from Republic Services for a job site and clearly told the representative when we would be finished and when the dumpster needed to be picked up. It was never picked up. I called the following week to complain about the original representative and the missed pickup. I was told a note would be made and that the dumpster would be picked up the next day. Two weeks later, my customer sent me a photo showing the dumpster was still sitting in her driveway. At that point, I called again--extremely upset--because my customer was literally trapped in her house. Her vehicle was in the garage, and the dumpster was blocking the driveway. Completely unacceptable. The next day, a supervisor called to "give me a heads up" that the dumpster had been emptied. I nearly lost my mind. I never needed it emptied. I needed it REMOVED from the property. They once again failed to do what was requested and had to send someone back out yet again to finally pick it up. I have repeatedly requested a refund due to the inconvenience, delays, and complete lack of competence, but this entire experience has been a disaster from start to finish. Republic Services failed to communicate, failed to follow through, and caused unnecessary stress for both me and my customer. This company is a nightmare to deal with, and I will never use them again. read more

The credit you owe from the strike. I called last billing cycle when I would see the credit from when you were on strike for two weeks and didn't collect any trash or recycle. I called back today asking where my credit was because it's not on the current bill and they said I was misinformed and that I will not be seeing the credit. Republic Services once again you suck. This company has provided the worst service to my complex community. The have not picked up our recycling for the past two weeks and another week before that. This is not the first time. It is an ongoing problem. Sometimes they place the opening of the dumpster against a wall so people do not have access to it. What gives with this company. My wife called me today and said someone from Republic Services picked up all our cans. Waste, recycling, and landfill. I called and asked if they could bring them back today and they said they couldn't do anything about it. I have to wait till the next pickup day to get my cans. Bullshit. My trash can has been broken for over 3 months. They say they are out of new trash cans but it has been 3 months. There are rats and raccoons eating my trash. They still sent me a bill and after hours on hold- they said I was still responsible for the old place, even though THEY assured me it was cancelled and it wasn't. They have been good except for the last two weeks. They did not pick up the black waste can on Aug 22 and it took four days before they picked it up . Today they did not pick it up so I called as I did on Aug. 22 and they said it would be picked up within 24 hours. I said my neighboring streets were not picked up and he said well not one had reported an issue and while I may be trying to be a good neighbor their protocol was others needed to call too. Other neighbors had called on Aug. 22-23 and were told that no calls were received on that issue. Also, their website customer service chat does not work and I do not see another way to address a C/S issue. read more

Have had them for 3.5 years. Nothing but problems. Won't pick up green waste or recycling. The recycling guy has a tantrum every time he picks up and leaves the bin anywhere he can throw it. This week I was on vacation and came home to it on its side and a ton of cardboard just thrown on the ground. The guy leaves it in the walking pathway, in the street, in front of the other bins etc. after years of complaints nothing has changed. After coming home from a stressful vacation the last thing I needed to do was republic services job for them. If you can avoid this company do so. They don't care about the service that their employees provide to paying accounts. They just got off strike, but it's obvious by the service we receive they were in no way earning whatever pay raise they got. Shady unions representing dishonest and lazy employees. I recently moved to Fremont and how to set up trash service. The customer service line is very responsive friendly, professional, and there's where it all ends. They don't actually fulfill their services but charge you anyway. The only start services on Monday in my area because that's pick up day but it's already been four days and despite calling them in advance, my bins have not been delivered. I have since called every single day to remind them and I get a different answer each time. Finally someone said, I will just put an order in and you will get the bins tomorrow and again no sign of them. No one can even tell me what went wrong in the first place and where all these requests are disappearing. Terrible experience, and my service is not even started. How is this acceptable? read more

I have been working with Republic Service Customer Service in exchanging my damage black garbage can since the first week of Nov 2024. My pick up day is on Friday's. Each week it never happen. I would end up calling on Sat or the following week for status and reason. Each time it was reschedule for the following Fri. Here we are in Jan 2025 and issue still not resolved. Our neighborhood streets (Rosegate Terrace, Buckboard Common, Stillwater Common and Stonington Terrace and others) are covered in broken glass left behind when our recyclables have been picked up by Truck#2427. We have been calling customer service for three weeks, beginning on 07/21/23. Case#174558744 was escalated three times and I spoke to several "managers" including a Nicky, who told me they came out and found no glass. These pictures tell a different story. I spoke to a "Patty", very nice person, who said it would be taken care of on Friday, August 4. No cleanup was seen. I called again on Monday, August 7, spoke to a "senior manager", who said she would take care of it. As of 4 PM, 8/7/23, the streets are still littered with glass. Not what I would expect when I put my items in the blue recycling trash bin. They have a monopoly on our trash pickup, so this review is all I can do in hopes the streets will be cleaned. read more

Meh. These guys are trash. Pun intended. While I am grateful for the work they do every week, every couple months or so they show their lack of proper care. There's zero pride in the work they do. My greatest gripe with Republic services in Fremont? They often skip taking my stack of properly folded, cut and taped cardboard. 99% it's to their required spec. and they still ignore it because the driver is lazy to jump out of his truck for it. Recently, I watched the driver stare at my cardboard stack for a good 3 seconds before deciding to drive off leaving it AND my full recycling bin there. The hell is that?? A temper tantrum? To make matters worse, reporting it with Republic services led to a promise they'd come back around for it in 48 hours. Nope. I left it out there for 5 days. Now it has to go out with the new week's recycling and my recycling is backed up a week. There's still the chance that they skip this week's recycling as well...ugh. Pretty lame, Republic services. Take some pride in your work will ya? If this was a one or two time occurrence, I'd let it slide, but this happens way too often and it's always the recycling truck driver to blame. Makes me want to stop recycling all together when you guys make it so damn difficult to do. But that would hurt the environment more than your company. I have always found the drivers to be polite and hard working. The customer service on the other hand is laughable. 3 years ago I signed up for auto bill pay and was okayed. They never took any money out for over a year and as I didn't specifically look for the charge i ended up with a bill for the year of over $1000. Now my card was hacked and I had to apply for a new one and my payment was declined due to that. After trying to access the website for 2 days I finally paid on line with the new card. The whole system is poor and it got me a lot of time getting things done. I don't understand how can they not even finish such a simple thing. I scheduled a dumpster to be delivered and the driver doesn't show up and I have to call them to see what's wrong with the delivery. They put the wrong code and they have to do it again and create a new one for me and the delivery is two days later. Just before the delivery, I got the call told me the order was wrong again. I don't know what say. Such bad experience. I scheduled the pick up for the dumpster on Friday. Then, unsurprisingly, the driver doesn't show up. I actually called early Friday just want to make sure the driver will show up and the representative told me that call me back if the driver doesn't show up. So I called them back and they told me they can only schedule it the next Tuesday. I don't understand why I have to put such big effort to get things done. Trash is never picked up on time. It's been 2 weeks since the trash is out and no one has picked it up (and this happens EVERY week for almost 2 months). The company charges hefty amounts for their service, but there is no service given in return. Customer service assures your trash will be picked up, but you end up spending 30 minutes every day of your daily work schedule, just talking with them but it's a futile effort. Trash will be outside your home the next day as well. I am now at a point where I am worried about pests. read more

There is a clear and obvious disregard for the cleanliness of the streets in our neighborhood and the satisfaction of customers. This is not a one time occurrence but it happens weekly and multiple houses on multiple streets. Garbage cans overturned with garbage laying in street. Truck drives so fast and driver does not look back to see the damage he has left behind. If there was an alternative I would gladly pay extra for a company whose employees take pride in their Work Republic Services obviously does not. UPDATE- Here we are today. I watched this happen at a few other house then went to take picture of truck to report it. The amount of speed used going down the street is ridiculous. The fact that older people might have to upright their cans and pick up the garbage left behind is unacceptable. Maybe management needs to either do a ride along to monitor drivers or just make surprise visits along the route. Either way something needs to be done to address the lack of care consistently shown. Reported to Fremont customer service that the recycle truck# 2427 appears to have faulty equipment, Broken glass were left in its trail in our neighborhood for the last few weeks. It was 7-21-23. Agent said will refer to Operations. Nothing happened for 2 weeks, and same problem persisted now for a whole month. Called again 8-3-23, same response, will refer to Operations. I asked for a follow up call to my cell. Someone in a Republic pickup truck showed up in the neighborhood later that day and I proceeded to show him where all the glass pieces are strewed on the street. He did not introduce himself nor did I. I asked that Republic clean up now that he saw the broken glass trail. I called customer service again the next day asking for crew cleanup or a sweeper be sent. Agent said she will relay message to Operations. To this date 8-7-23, no contact from Republic at the home service location or my cell. read more

We Have no choice.. there is no other garbage company I can hire.. my problem is this, We live in this same house 30+years, My Veteran Spouse is eligible to have backyard pick up for many years now.. but we only started using this service 3months ago and since then.. its a hit and miss service, I complain of ex. recycle bin still in front of my house since monday ,I call daily and its now friday and.. YUP, still here. This has happened before and they promise by saying "we will escalate" every single time and nothing.. nothing at all.. we didnt mind doing our own garbage and its just recently we had to use a service we've been eligible for.. I only post this out of sheer frustration and disregard. I think for the medically eligible people.. we should have outstanding service and nothing less.. less is already in our daily lives. I think they are my top worst customer service Ive ever had to deal with. I say obligated because how else do I get rid of my garbage? The route drivers could care less about the quality of their work specifically in my case the recycle driver. The phone operators are monotonous scripted people that seem unhappy and over worked. They have no reaction good or bad when you call after long wait periods. I call and can do my dishes and laundry by the time they answer the hold. I have had major problems with our route with the blue bin recycle container. This is 4 time I call about this. Many times I have to leave for work and just have to hang up. I called today and found out their staff is not even local-it is a call center in Arizona. They are super picky and demanding when it comes to how your garbage and/or recycle bin must be yet they miss pick ups and don't empty the cans correctly. Yet my bill always arrives on time and always paid in full each time. The powers at be need to seriously look into this and their faulty service as well as phone customer service. My bulky waste that is twice a year is not even available till next year yet they will count it as a 2021 pick up-even though I have only used 1 for the 2020 year. They don't inform customers of anything even though they have our mailing address and emails. All around terrible and disappointed in Republic services. We never had these problems when we lived in Hayward. read more
