I stopped in on a Saturday evening before heading to a Rockets game and had a great time! The bar is located right across the street from the Four Seasons Hotel in downtown so around 5pm we saw that night's competing team, the Toronto Raptors, exiting and getting on their bus to head to the Toyota Center. They took pictures and signed autographs for fans. The Reserve is casual, and it's a great pre-party spot on game days because it is walking distance from the stadium. Also, they have happy hour until 6 pm EVEN ON SATURDAYS! I ordered a French 76 (made with vodka, instead of gin), which is normally $10 but on happy hour it's only $5! Service was great, fun crowd, will definitely be back! read more

Went here around 4-5:30ish and wasn't packed or anything. There was one lady bartending and she was awesome. She was great at her job. She made you feel welcomed and was very happy go lucky. She saw how my friend and I were dying from the Houston heat and gave us the rundown of the place as in where we could find literally the coolest spot and other things like seating upstairs and the restroom. I could tell she had regulars come in and I could see why they would be regulars. Drink specials and great service. My only regret was asking her to make me some fruity refreshing drink that ended up tasting like only whisky :c All is forgiven though. If I'm ever in the area, I'd come back again. read more

I'd been here before and really liked it but had an insanely horrible experience my last visit. The very first bartender I had an encounter with was the Ginger Bartender. Asked him for a whiskey recommendation then proceeded to order. After waiting a while for him to come back around we finally waved at the other bartender as he was walking by and ordered another round from him. when it was time to go Ginger bartender got our check, I handed him my card then gave me my receipt to sign. I noticed it was a different amount. When I asked the ginger if I could have the original receipt(the one they give you with your drinks and total) he said No. Puzzled, I proceeded to ask Ginger why, and he seemed to be playing dumb, the other bartender noticed and told me he added both tabs together. Accepting and understanding that, I still asked to have the original receipt handed to me. Ginger bartender then flips me off and says "FUCK YOU". Even the people sitting around me were very confused why he did that, I certainly wasn't being rude, obnoxious, loud or uncooperative. I wasn't even belligerent drunk. I simply just wanted my original receipt. read more

I adore this spot!!! We headed there following a concert at HOB on Friday and had a fantastic time. Jase and Frank were great! They are friendly and pour awesome drinks. The 2 stars I give is for our 2 whiskeys. It was great. We're fans of trying different whiskeys and have been looking forward to coming here for a while. We went there when the bar was pretty empty. After we've sat down for 10 minutes, 2 bartenders passed by several times(they weren't even busy or doing anything)without any greeting or acknowledging us, just like we were not there. They greeted some other customers who came after us with big smile. Finally, I had to call on one of the bartender to order and he came with the attitude, after we order a 65$ glass of whiskey, finally he ask whether we need some water and gave 2 water to 3 of us. I have been to many bars in Houston, this is the worst experience and service. Maybe we look too young? Maybe because we are Asian? We came here ready to spend money to experience different whiskey selections. But we were ignored and felt like beggars begging for drinks. Never gonna go back. read more

This is a great Downtown spot to grab a few drinks before dinner or a concert, even after work. I can walk here from my office. I am not a whiskey drinker, but my husband is. He seems to enjoy the selection and I enjoy the beers they have on tap. There is always ample seating and even a loft area upstairs and a private room for small parties. read more

I love this bar. The staff are knowledgeable and accommodating and the atmosphere is very laid back. They have a great martini menu and also play great music! I had my birthday party here and had an absolutely fabulous time and later in the evening Reverend Horton Heat came in after his show at the House of Blues which was even a better treat. read more

Great whisky (and whiskey) bar! Good luck finding something they don't have. This place is perfect. There is a little seating area upstairs if it gets a little crowded downstairs. Everyone in the bar is awesome, except the little owner, Mike. He treats the people poorly and was a jerk to me and my friends on New Years Eve. I think he has a chip on his shoulder or something. I feel for those who have to work with him, but it made me tip them better...so maybe it is ok :) I take all my friends here and they have all enjoyed. read more

I will make this update quick and painless. I still LOVE this place. I still get so many hot vodka shots (zingers) that I am not sure I have had any whiskey (which is my drink of preference.) They just started (maybe in the last year or so) doing flatbreads which are freakin amazing. I havent had one yet that wasnt amazing and its probably my favorite flatbreads in town. I am still super obsessed with this place, if you havent been yet, make any excuse to do so! Its a great spot to eat before a show at the House of Blues! read more

According to my husband Reserve makes the best old fashioned in Houston! That's saying a lot because he's had old fashions from all over the country with 100's of different whiskeys. This is our go to place for drinks anytime were downtown. We love the atmosphere, the service is always impeccable and of course the drinks are always top notch! My wife and I met up with a group of friends Friday night to do some whiskey drinking. It was recommended that we try Reserve 101, since they have a good selection to sample. We arrived at 7:00 and were escorted to the back room, where there was plenty of room with big comfy chairs. We had the room to ourselves, which was great. Frank was our host and did a terrific job bringing us flights. First we sample Bourbons. Then switched over to Scotch. We trusted Frank to make the selections and he delivered for sure as well as giving us "the tour" of each brand. All in all a great evening. My fiance and I showed up at 1:45pm on Saturday (we did not know they did not open until 2pm). We entered and asked if they were open - there were at least a couple of employees inside apparently doing nothing. We were turned away and told they do not open until 2pm. I know I was not speaking to an owner because an owner would have gladly accepted and welcomed our business. Instead, we went across the street and spent our $100 at Mia Bella: Good food and drink, and they appreciated our business. I went with my boyfriend for a happy hour with his work friends. The first thing I noticed was the horrendous smell. I don't know what's going on with it. Truly atrocious. The bartender kept grabbing a can of Lysol air freshener and spraying away, but it didn't really help. This is apparently a persistent problem from what I have been told. That said, I ordered the Raspberry Martini. Really yummy. We checked out the upstairs area (not much too it), and it had some very comfy leather chairs and flat screens. Nice little place to have a chat and away from the horrid smell! If they can fix the sewer issue or whatever, this place would be much better. Great selection of liquors. read more

I actually like this place because of the atmosphere and location and have had a lot of fun here after some HOB events, but my last trip here I realized that it is a major rip off! (perhaps it was because it was the boyfriend's birthday so I refused to let him pay for anything that evening). This is not New York or LA, we are in Houston....I was not thrilled about paying $12 for a glass of their house sauvignon blanc and $14 for a teeny tiny glass of whiskey (I mean shot glass size). I can buy a decent bottle of wine for $10 so give me a break. And the price of the whiskey would have been fine if it was served in a normal size glass.... read more

Very small place with limited seating. It got super hot and caused our group to leave early due to how hot it got. I'm not a big whiskey person and prolly won't take full advantage of the establishment. But they had beer so there's always a chance. I had the Karbach Jasmine Saison and it was served in a petite glass. I don't know what the average pour on this beer was but it seemed like everyone's beer was petite. They only had 6 beers on tap. It served its purpose for our group. I don't know if we will return. read more

Cool spot, nice vibes, not very many patrons which I like on a Sunday. It was kind of low lightening which gave it ambiance, but there's tv's to watch. Went with my boyfriend to do a whiskey tasting and the bar tender recommended us a few as well as answered some of our questions. There's no food. It's bar only. Go if you are looking to try bourbon/whiskey, very good selections and a menu to explain which region it is from. Also another bartender went over with us the process of the whiskey barrels in transportation and how you get the smells and taste of the different of them. Pretty cool place! read more

Nice selection of whisk(e)y, obviously, but the crowd and bartender really prevent this place from being worth your time. The crowd (on a weeknight mind you) were drinking bud lights and clear liquor cocktails, a man sitting next to me ordered a f**king sea breeze! None of this would be more than a disappointment in people who don't understand they're at a whiskey bar, except the bartender repeatedly ignored us. We were drinking whisky, neat. Super easy, super fast, and totally appropriate. A professional bartender knows to keep our glasses full, especially considering we had been there prior to the frat pack. At one point the bartender got annoyed with a bro for not keeping his check open, none of them were, and scolded him saying it would make things go faster if he'd just leave it open. In the mean time, I'm sitting there thirsty, being ignored, needing to close out so I can go elsewhere. The neck-tattoo bartender needs to get a clue, and the crowd is certainly not suitable for actual adults. I would recommend this bar ONLY for early evening drinks before the crowd shows up. read more

I was educated by one of the bartenders and found this place quite charming and intriguing!
