I've never been to this area of Houston before but the restaurant is a stand alone. Right when you walk in you can order your pizza or grab a menu and sit down to decide on what you want before you go to the counter. The interior feels a little tight where the tables are but have a lot of seating. The pizza was good but nothing to rave about. I will say that I really like the pizza dough and the fact that they give you fresh parmesan with your pizza.
Oh my goodness! This place is amazing to say the least. It may be the best pizza I have ever eaten. The service was great, and the place was spotless and cute. The bathrooms were good too. As for the pizza, the pepperoni was delicious. We had a sausage pizza, which I usually don't enjoy, was so good. The cheese and crust on these pizzas were top notch. I can't wait to go back.
The Gypsy Poet is probably my favorite pizza spot in Houston. This is my first time dining at this location. After a long day of appointments and physical therapy we decided to stop and grab some pies. Their Heights location offers a cozy dining experience with a menu featuring unique creations like the Pepperoni Madness and Fancy Backpacker pizzas. Fresh ingredients, creative toppings, and the welcoming ambiance. The line was out the door but the staff were great at keeping it moving. We had the Pepperoni Madness with hot honey on the side. 10/10
Let me just say that the pizza is really good. We tried two different ones, a Margarita and a Hot Honey. The Margarita was by far superior to the other. Crust is good, albeit burnt in some places (I bet that's an appeal to some). No ranch dressing though!!! If I have to eat the burnt crust, I need something good to dip it in! they had a nice selection of booze (I had an Amber St Arnold), as well as some good soda options. You order at the counter, so very chill vibe. There was quite a long line for lunch, but the view of the hot police officers helped!
Well damn. That was delicious yall. Parking. Ugh. Parked across the street in a parallel spot BUT it was the day we had the crazy storm and so no spot was close enough for this place. Pizza came out crazy fast and piping hot. Love the fresh Parmesan, basil, and red pepper on the tray with the pizza. Lots of games for the kids to play and some plenty of places to sit. I can't believe we've never been here before. Had a pizza order mix up and the staff fixed it very quickly and apologized. Customer service was excellent especially since we went on Valentine's Day.
This was my first visit to the heights location and I can say that I prefer this location over the one closer to downtown. The interior is larger, bigger pizza oven to lessen wait times, and options to sit outside or sit at the bar. You order at the counter before sitting down, so we waited about 15 or so minutes in line to order at around 7pm on a Sunday. I would also recommend that you pick up and pay for your drinks when placing your pizza order as well to avoid waiting in the line again, though I did see one individual skip the line and pay for his drink at the bar. After we placed our order, the pizzas took maybe 10 minutes to come out. Considering that they were decently busy and that all of the pizzas are freshly made, I would say that the food comes out pretty fast. Gypsy Poet also offers additional toppings / condiments (outside of the shaved parmesan, fresh basil, and red pepper flakes brought out with the pizzas) in the form of olive oil, balsamic vinegar glaze, and hot honey at the counter. The pizza here is actually really good and perhaps the best in Houston, as it is commonly referred to. We ordered the Margherita and the Sicilian Journe to share and found it to be very filling for the three of us. Both of the pizzas were very well balanced and had a great crust. The only critique I could add is that the middle of the pizzas lacked a bit of char, but we still very much enjoyed the pies we ordered. Like others have mentioned, parking is a bit of a challenge. The lot is small, but there is plenty of street parking one street over, so the walk is not bad.
During a layover in Houston, my friend took me to The Gypsy Poet, an Artisan Pizza place for Lunch. All pizzas are made fresh to order so it would take about 10 minutes. This place was clean and cozy, they had fun games and things to do while waiting for your order; we played a game of UNO. It was not that long when our pizza's came. We ordered the Pepperoni Madness and the Sicilian Journey. It did not take long before they were served and they were the BOMB! The hot honey sure complemented the Pepperoni Pizza; it was delicious! I love the arugula on the Sicilian Journey, the sauce was creamy indeed. What I also loved about this place is that they provide shaved Parmesan Cheese and not the ones in a shaker bottle; what a difference! We topped our lunch with a Nutella Confezzion aka Nutella Pizza! If you are a Nutella fanatic like me, this is a MUST! It absolutely hits the spot. One thing I also found cool about this place is their bathroom was designed like a speakeasy, you don't even know it's there. Highly recommend if ever visiting Houston!
Fast casual spot in the heart of the heights! Order up front, grab a drink from the cooler, and find a seat. Ordered 3 pizzas - Margherita 1- standard and 1- add jalapeños and pepperoni. Also ordered a Pepperoni Madness - add jalapeños. Pizza was good! Crispy undercarriage and quality toppings. All pizzas come with red pepper flakes, parm shavings, and basil. Pro Tip - ask for hot honey and give your pie a good drizzle.
Was the pizza good? Yes. Would I recommend this place or come back? Probably not. I got the big hat and I thought it was good. I love how they serve basil, cheese, and red pepper on your tray. My boyfriend ordered the fancy backpacker and he liked his pizza as well. However we think it's kind of pricey for ( $17-19) a 13 in pizza. It just wasn't as amazing as it thought it would be. I've seen this place mentioned on the best places to get pizza at but I thought the taste was average. They have live music which was nice. Limited seating inside. Parking could be a nightmare depending on the time & day you go.
Yummy pizza, nightmare parking lot. On busy nights, at least. Gypsy Poet's reputation precedes itself, so it was very busy on the Friday night that I went. Some people around here may need a refresher on parking etiquette- I had my car angled and my turn signal on, ready for several minutes in advance to pull into a spot that was about to become available, only for someone else to swoop in out of literally nowhere and unsafely take it. Twice. This has nothing to do with the food but it did set the mood for the rest of the meal. Line was fairly long when I finally managed to make it inside, but moved along smoothly. Was a little worried we'd have to wait a while for a seat but my friend and I were able to snag a nice table in the corner pretty much immediately after taking our order. We didn't get a table number or buzzer after ordering, the staff will come find you and bring you the food when your order is ready. I ordered the Sicilian Journey (white sauce, ricotta, mozz, fior di latte cheese, sausage, shallots, arugula) and my friend had the Big Hat (tomato sauce, fior di latte cheese, mushroom, shallots, sausage) and then added pepperoni to it. Mine was very pleasant and mild, hers was zesty and savory- I think I ended up liking her order a bit more. I like that they serve the pizzas with a side of parmesan shavings and basil so you can dress your slice up a bit more. The price feels a little steep for what you get but we did enjoy our meal. I'm glad I've been at least once, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come back again. Maybe on a weekday evening, when things are a bit slower. - Ambiance: 4/5 - Food: 4/5 - Service: 5/5

They only have one register, which really slows things down when it's busy. After ordering, the food takes about 25 minutes to come out, depending on the crowd. They do let you know that in advance, which is helpful. I had heard a lot of hype about their pizza, so I was excited to finally try it. The crust was great and the flavors were solid, but honestly, it didn't quite live up to the expectations for me. After waiting in line and then waiting again for the food, it just didn't feel worth it. I've had better pizza elsewhere in Houston without all the wait. I'd come back if friends were craving it or if I happened to be in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. The pizza was fine, not amazing & I think I just expected more because of all the buzz.

You can always count on Gypsy Poet for consistently solid thin-crust pizzas. The crust is crispy with just the right amount of chew, the undercarriage is thin without being floppy. The menu is pretty small, only 8 pies to choose from and focus on more classic flavor combinations. Our go to are the Dream Catcher, Margherita, Fancy Backpacker and Pepperoni Madness. In addition to the pizza, they offer a good selection of drinks from the fridge and a few cocktails. For dessert, the tiramisu is a bit underwhelming and a little too sweet for me, but the Nutella pizza is a fun and shareable option for the table. read more
Okay, Gypsy Poet was really a cute vibe! I've had friends recommending it for years and somehow it took me this long to finally go! I couldn't quite tell from review photos, but the setup is more casual than I expected. It's an 'order at the counter' style but they make it easy with drink fridges to grab a drink, beer, lemonade, or bottle of wine while you wait. We grabbed a couple of St Arnold Ambers and did not mind the small wait at all. It was busy for a Friday night, but we had no troubles snagging a table. We ordered the Pepperoni Madness and Fancy Backpacker (both house favorites), and as somewhat picky pizza eaters, we were really impressed! Honestly, some of the best pizza I've had in Houston so far. We'd order these exact two again and loved the unique way they served the pizzas. This would be a great spot to go with a small group of friends or visiting family. Can't wait to add to our rotation! read more

Good casual spot but with "artisan" pizza" and the flavors and everting about the pizza is sooo good! Service is basically self serve, we put our trays up and trash after eating. But seriously, the pizzas are so good!! Parking is limited but free. read more

Wow! Was very impressed with this pizza place. Not only is it cool inside, the pizza is fantastic, staff is friendly and we got our pizza pretty fast. We ordered online and was 20 min early , when we arrived and told them that we are early, they started working on our order right away and we had our pizza within 20 mins.. Note, there are 2 gypsy poet locations. The one in the heights have normal hours. The other one is hard to go to due to their weird hours. The one in the heights was even open on Easter when we went. read more

Was searching for a pizza place open on Easter and this Gypsy Poet location did not disappoint. I had always heard how elite this spot was and now I know why! They have a super easy website to order from with tons of ways to customize your pie. It was ready within 20-30 minutes as promised. This was legit one of the best cheese and best pepperoni pizzas I've ever had. It's a bit pricey but well worth it. Top notch ingredients and cooked to perfection. You can dine inside, on the patio, or take it to go. Tons of wine and drink options to go with your food. read more

Often called the best pizza in Houston, Gypsy Poet is a popular spot that lives up to the hype (in my opinion). I've been here several times and can't believe I've never left a review! This is a counter service restaurant, where you order at the counter, grab a drink from their large cooler stocked with sodas, wine, and beer and they bring the food to your table. The staff is always friendly, helpful, and happy to offer recommendations. On my most recent visit, I brought a coworker for lunch around 12:30 pm. Since they open at 12, we had the place to ourselves before the lunch crowd rolled in. She ordered the Pepperoni Madness and I went with the Capellone "Big Hat". These are both Sicilian style pizza so the crust is thin and crispy. My pizza was topped with mushroom caps, shallots, and Italian sausage, and everything was so flavorful especially the mushrooms! My coworker was blown away by her pizza and said it was some of the best she's ever had. The pizzas are a great size for sharing, and both of us ended up taking leftovers home. I completely agree with the consensus: Gypsy Poet is a must-try in Houston! read more

Ordered online and was ready for pick up when we got there! No need to wait in lines. Got the pepperoni madness with jalapeño and basil. Absolutely delicious pizza. We got the pizza as take out since we live close by and they packaged it wonderfully put the greens on the side so it wouldn't wilt and put the prosciutto towards the crust so it wouldn't cook in transit. We got the pepperoni madness (add jalapeños) and the cinque formaggi (make it white and add prosciutto and arugula, I also added balsamic glaze when I got home ). I am so late to the game but this is where I discovered hot honey on pizza! The pizzas are great.. love the wood burning taste... Love the crust... Love the sliced pieces of parmesan and fresh basil on the side. Even the salads are refreshing. Try to avoid peak hours because you may have to wait a bit and it will be difficult to find parking. Came for an early Sunday dinner and we just got the last parking and seating. Came again on a Saturday evening around 8 and there were plenty of seats. The only thing I hope this place will do is rotate their flavors and update their menu once In a while. read more
This is heights location, parking is limited, I called in and ordered and the process was convenient after ordering they send a link via text where you can pay online. Cool spot, cool employees..but man the pizza is helllla mid I'm sorry. They have a full bar which is cool and most likely will bring me back...for the vibes...and snack on some "ok" pizza. This was my first time going to the heights location of gypsy poet. The midtown location I remember had delicious really fresh pizza! So I was excited to try this location. When we arrived the parking lot was full so I drove around the streets for a bit and the residential street behind gypsy poet seemed to have free parking and no tow signs so that's where I parked. When we arrived the line was almost outside, the ordering area was in the entrance area essentially you wait in line and then order in the front. As a vegetarian I was looking for multiple options, I came w a group of three friends so we all decided to order different pizzas. Those being- margarita, four cheese, and can't remember the name of the last one but it had arugula and cherry tomatoes! After ordering we found a spot and it took a while for our food to come out honestly. We were so confused bc the front order area didn't ask for our names and didn't give us any numbers to deliver the pizza. But the pizzas came to us perfectly. The margarita pizza was good- all the pizzas come w basil and Parmesan on the side which is unique. The four cheese was too cheesy for my liking however the one with arugula and cherry tomatoes was my favorite but the toppings kept on falling off which was annoying. Good mixture of different flavors. Overall I like gypsy poet but would love to go when they actually have poetry going on. read more
Remains my favorite pizza in Houston (that I've tried at least). First time at the Heights location, but have been to the Montrose location before. Came around 5:45pm on Saturday - no problem parking and not too busy. By 6:15 it was a packed house! So come early if you are planning on dinner and order, drink a beer, and then by the pizza is made you'll be ready to eat! The pepperoni pizza with hot honey on it is soo good. The fancy backpacker was also solid. Recommend them both. read more
Some of the best pizza in Houston! So glad there are multiple locations. The backpacker is a favorite of mine, but you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. They also have bottles of hot honey and truffle oil if you prefer some additional flavor. You order up the counter and they bring the pizza to you when ready. You order at the counter and they bring the pizza to you. Drinks are along the wall in fridges that you can just grab. They had free water and ice. The pizza was so delicious! We got the fancy backpacker. Smelled and tasted amazing. Would definitely order it again. The place was packed on a Friday night! Took a while to get seating for our group of 6. Parking is in the front but there's another lot down the street as well as street parking. read more
Came in on a Thursday night and was treated not only the same great pizza their midtown location had but also some live music on stage. Easily going to be one of the best places for pizza in the heights. Got the pepperoni madness and the flavor was rich and perfect texture. read more

I've had this place saved for a while and finally had the chance to try it. I tried to pepperoni with the hot honey. Prosciutto with arugula And margherita. At first I was like , pepperoni with hot honey??? But once I tried it, I was like " hot dang this ain't bad" So definitely would eat again. Sauces were nice. Great amount of tang and sweet. Good crust. My issue with this margherita was that it didn't feel like a real margherita. They just gave me a regular cheese pizza, cheese blend and all, and threw a tiny dollop of mozz on top. read more

When I hear "Gypsy," I picture an old lady reading my palm and overcharging me. No old lady here--but somehow, I still got cursed... because now I'm addicted. That pizza? Straight-up black magic. Easily Top 3 in Houston. I ordered two pepperoni pizzas--one with hot honey. That one? Unreal. Like sell-your-soul-for-another-slice level magic. Crispy crust, perfect cheese melt, and that hot honey hit just right. Perfection at its peak. I didn't choose the cursed life... the pizza chose me. read more
Gypsy poet is a well-known and talked about pizza spot, so obviously when I was craving pizza, I knew I had to go here. We went around 8:30 PM on a Saturday, and were pleasantly surprised that there were not any lines. It's a simple, local pizza chain with plenty of seating on the inside. AND they were playing some pretty vibey music. With their simple, yet artsy menu, we opted for the Sicilian Journey and Pepperoni Madness. I love white sauce pizzas- the ricotta from the Sicilian Journey was creamy and delightful. The Pepperoni Madness was great as well- they are definitely using good quality ingredients! The hot honey was not prominent, however. The crust of the pizzas were very light and airy, so if you prefer thick, doughy pizza this might not be for you. Also, I would recommend 1 pizza for 2 people! Overall, it was pretty good, but I would not say it was the best pizza I have ever had. read more

This is a poor little pizza spot with inside seating walk up counter ordering and a nice outdoor cupboard patio with fake grass in case you want to bring the doggies along. The pizza is standard with a very very thin crispy crust not lots of sauce so if you like sauce you should probably ask for extra the toppings are good it was pretty much a standard Pizza to me maybe because I only got the margarita not all of the toppings but it's a nice place to go grab some wine and pizza with a friend and sit outside on the patio.
